Review: When a Moth Loved a Bee by Pepper Winters

Review: When a Moth Loved a Bee by Pepper Winters

New York Times Bestseller, Pepper Winters, delivers a brand new High Fantasy Romance.

“It’s taking everything I have not to touch you. Not because I want to make you mine but because every part of me screams that you already are.”

A pack of wolves hunt a girl who takes her last breath by a river’s edge.
She is found and nursed back to health by the kind-hearted Nhil people.
She has no memory.
No past.
And is given a choice that could change her forgotten life forever.

A pack of wolves adopt a man who begs for death in the grasslands.
Blood revives him. Flesh strengthens him. All while the alpha watches him as if he knows who he is.
He has no memory.
No past.
And yet…he’s drawn toward the smoke of a faraway clan.

And in that smoke, he finds a girl with the same mark on her thigh, the same empty mind, and the same forgotten language on her lips.

He’s convinced they know each other.
She’s certain they are strangers.
But the more time they spend together, the more tangled the truth becomes.
Their forgetfulness was deliberate.
To keep them apart.
To keep them lost.
To keep them from claiming their true power.
Because in that power exists a terrible choice.
A choice that could destroy the world…
…or each other.

When a Moth Loved a Bee is the first volume in the Epic Fantasy Romance Destini Chronicles.
A heavily romantic, spice-filled fantasy set in a world where life and death, shadows and stars watch over two forbidden lovers whose powers are best left forgotten.

Recommended for readers over R18 due to explicit scenes, content, and darker elements.

Author Note:
This Fantasy is 100% romance. It isn’t a quest where they spend most of the book apart. If you want a rich world, magic, intrigue, oodles and oodles of page time with the two characters together, all brimming with longing, forbiddenness, and butterfly-winging moments, then this is the book for you.

MY REVIEW

“Through every star and every sea, I’ll watch over you.” “Neither time nor distance, nor war or disaster can stop what is true. You’re mine and that can not be undone.”

“No wonder I’m drawn to you.” “You are light itself, and I am just a moth…a moth desperate to bask in you.”

As a fan of Pepper Winters’ dark romances, I couldn’t wait to see what she would bring to the table with a fantasy novel. And let me tell you, she does not disappoint. Pepper Winters weaves a fantastical tale of fantasy, magic, and forbidden love.

I’ll be honest with you, when I first got my hands on this book, I was completely intimidated. When a Moth Loved a Bee is a beast of a book sitting at 968 pages. Despite the intimidating page count, I was hooked the moment I started reading this book. I found myself completely enraptured with the story of Girl and Stranger and had to know more. Their story was so unique and intriguing. The longing and emotion made it feel as though you were experiencing everything right along with Girl and Stranger.

Pepper Winters did an amazing job with her storytelling and world-building, making it very easy to visualize what was happening. However, if I had to make one complaint, it would have to be about the page count. As much as the story flowed and captivated me, I felt like it took forever for things to happen. Please don’t get me wrong, I know that is expected with fantasy books, but with that high of a page count, I guess I was expecting more. More drama. More action. Just more of everything.

Overall, I found this book to be an enjoyable read, but long read. I liked all of the characters and found them all easy to connect with. The author did a wonderful job weaving a truly unique and spellbinding tale of forbidden love. This story left me with a lot of questions and I’m looking forward to seeing how things play out in the next book.

New Year. New Reading Challenge.

It’s that time of year again! As you know, there is nothing more that I love than challenging myself when it comes to the books I read. Whether it’s a new author, series, a genre that takes me out of my comfort zone or being able to tackle some books that have been on my tbr for far too long; I live for a good reading challenge. In the past few years, I stepped up my game not only with the books that I read but also by attempting to clear out that never-ending to-read list. As always, my challenges have been hard, but a ton of fun at the same time.

For 2023’s Reading Challenge, I really wanted to once again challenge myself and kick my never-ending to-read list’s butt!! And I am more than ready for the challenge……

Review: A Light in the Flame by Jennifer Armentrout

Review: A Light in the Flame by Jennifer Armentrout

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes book two in her Flesh and Fire series…

The only one who can save Sera now is the one she spent her life planning to kill.

The truth about Sera’s plan is out, shattering the fragile trust forged between her and Nyktos. Surrounded by those distrustful of her, all Sera has is her duty. She will do anything to end Kolis, the false King of Gods, and his tyrannical rule of Iliseeum, thus stopping the threat he poses to the mortal realm.

Nyktos has a plan, though, and as they work together, the last thing they need is the undeniable, scorching passion that continues to ignite between them. Sera cannot afford to fall for the tortured Primal, not when a life no longer bound to a destiny she never wanted is more attainable than ever. But memories of their shared pleasure and unrivaled desire are a siren’s call impossible to resist.

And as Sera begins to realize that she wants to be more than a Consort in name only, the danger surrounding them intensifies. The attacks on the Shadowlands are increasing, and when Kolis summons them to Court, a whole new risk becomes apparent. The Primal power of Life is growing inside her, pushing her closer to the end of her Culling. And without Nyktos’s love—an emotion he’s incapable of feeling—she won’t survive her Ascension. That is if she even makes it to her Ascension and Kolis doesn’t get to her first. Because time is running out. For both her and the realms.

MY REVIEW

“For the first time in my life, I felt like I was more than a destiny I’d never agreed to. More than the embers I carried within me. I felt like…more.”

You know you’ve read a good book when it leaves you absolutely speechless and that’s what this book has done to me.

Picking up where A Shadow in the Ember left off, we are faced with the truth about Sera’s plan and the fallout it leaves behind. Even after shattering the trust between herself and Nyktos, Sera remains determined to destroy Kolis at any cost. Nyktos has a plan, but in order for it to work he must find a way to work with Sera. The last thing these two need is to acknowledge the passion that burns between them. Bound by destiny and duty, Nyktos and Sera’s story takes readers on an unforgettable journey…

A Light in the Flame is brilliantly written and will capture your attention from the very first page. Nyktos and Sera’s story absolutely consumed me. The push and pull, the undeniable connection…Ugh! I just couldn’t get enough. You knew these two characters were meant to be, it was only a matter of time before they weren’t able to deny it anymore. I live for those moments.

A Light in the Flame is filled with romance and betrayal, revelations, and crazy twists all leading up to an unforgettable ending that will leave you begging for the next book. I lived for all of the angsty and heart-pounding action. The sense of duty, fate, and destiny had me devouring each and every word. A Light in the Flame is a fantastic addition to the Flesh and Fire series and I can not wait to see how things play out in the next book.

My Review

“Once upon a time, there was a little girl with blazing red hair who was destined to save a kingdom.”

These Twisted Bonds is the heart-pounding and thrilling conclusion to These Hollow Vows. Picking up right where These Hollow Vows left off, These Twisted Bonds will take you on a thrilling and unforgettable journey that will keep you on your toes right until the very end.

These Twisted Bonds captivated me from the very first page. I was completely obsessed and consumed by this story. I had to know what would happen next, how things would play out in the Fae realm, and who would finally win Abriella’s heart.

Now, I will say, I’m not usually the biggest fan of love triangles but found myself hopelessly obsessed with this one. Just when I thought I had chosen a side, something would happen to leave me wondering if the person I picked was the right one, and let me tell you, I couldn’t have been happier with the outcome.

The only issue I had with this book was that I did feel that the ending was a bit rushed. Everything seemed to wrap up really quickly and after everything these characters endured, I would have liked to have the conflict/fight play out a little bit longer. Like really make these characters earn their happily ever after. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved this story and the characters, the ending just left me needing more.

Overall, I thought These Twisted Bonds was a fantastic read. This story completely consumed me and wild horses couldn’t make me put it down. I loved the world this author has created and all of the characters we met along the way. I loved getting swept up in Finn, Abriella, and Sebastian. The twists and turns kept me on my toes and I had the best time trying to figure out what would happen next.

These Twisted Bonds is a story of love, friendships, and the bonds that tie us together. It’s a story of duty and loyalty. A story about making hard decisions and sacrifices. A story that will tie you up in knots and keep you begging for more.

MY REVIEW

Three weddings and three funerals-Alessa’s gift is supposed to save the world but ends up killing every suitor she touches. With only weeks left to save her island home, time is running out for Alessa to not only find a suitor but stop the invasion. Alessa’s task is anything but easy, and when a powerful priest casts doubt among the faithful, Alessa quickly discovers that not everyone is on her side. Desperate to survive, Alessa seeks help from Dante, an outcast who has been marked as a killer. Will Dante be able to help Alessa or will his secrets destroy everything? There’s only one way to find out….

What an exciting ride! This Vicious Grace is a little slow to start, but don’t let that discourage you. This book has fantastic world-building and a plot that will leave you on your toes.

Alessa is strong, yet determined to live up to the expectations the gods have set before her. Her mission: find an acceptable suitor, harness his power, and save their island community. Sounds easy enough, except everyone she touches ends up dead. After an attempt on her life, Alessa doesn’t know who she can trust, and that’s how she finds herself with the mysterious Dante. Dante could care less about Alessa’s agenda, but for reasons he can’t quite understand, he takes Alessa up on her offer. Together, these two make quite the unexpected pairing. Their chemistry leaped off the pages and had me dying to know what would happen next.

This Vicious Grace is a heart-pounding and refreshing fantasy novel that will keep you glued to the pages. This story is filled with magic, mystery, and intrigue. At times, I wondered how this could possibly be a debut novel, as the words just flew off the pages and consumed me. I fell in love with the characters and am absolutely dying to find out what happens next. This story took me by surprise in the best way and I look forward to checking out more from this author in the future.

Excerpt

She sat across from him at his breakfast table in the conservatory, the beams of the sun gilding her hair, her face aimed to the windows, watching the birds at their bath.
He was dressed, but she was wrapped in his dressing gown. It was too big for her. But it was all they had for the now as he refused to button her into a gown she’d worn just the day before. He’d sent word to Corliss to have her maid, her apparel and her toilette directed to his townhome so she could face the day fresh, preparing to do so there.
More importantly, this also meant he got to keep her longer.
“Stop watching me,” she told the window. “It’s ridiculously romantic. I’m melting in a puddle over here.”
He grinned at his coffee cup, his attention remaining on her over the rim as he took a sip.
She turned in the midst of this, watched his actions, and her gaze heated yet again.
“You’re a walking, talking, eating, drinking-coffee, sex-god hero from a romance novel,” she groused.
“I love you think that, though I’m perplexed as to why this seems to put you in a foul mood,” he noted, returning his cup to its saucer.
“I can’t jump you over the table due to your injury, that’s why,” she explained.
He raised a brow. “Did I not prove my creativity this morning?”
“The bit where you were on your knees could have torn your stitches.”
The tone of her response communicated she was now being very serious.
“Again, darling, I’m fine,” he said in the same tone.
“How worried should I be about this bordello woman you’ve angered?” she asked.
And there it was.
“You shouldn’t worry at all.”
“Loren—”

Review: Edgewood by Kristen Ciccarelli

Can love survive the dark?

No matter how far she runs, the forest of Edgewood always comes for Emeline Lark. The scent of damp earth curls into her nose when she sings and moss creeps across the stage. It’s as if the woods of her childhood, shrouded in folklore and tall tales, are trying to reclaim her. But Emeline has no patience for silly superstitions.

When her grandfather disappears, leaving only a mysterious orb in his wake, the stories Emeline has always scoffed at suddenly seem less foolish. She enters the forest she has spent years trying to escape, only to have Hawthorne Fell, a handsome and brooding tithe collector, try to dissuade her from searching.

Refusing to be deterred, Emeline finds herself drawn to the court of the fabled Wood King himself. She makes a deal—her voice for her grandfather’s freedom. Little does she know, she’s stumbled into the middle of a curse much bigger than herself, one that threatens the existence of this eerie world she’s trapped in, along with the devastating boy who feels so familiar.

With the help of Hawthorne—an enemy turned reluctant ally who she grows closer to each day—Emeline sets out to not only save her grandfather’s life, but to right past wrongs, and in the process, discover her true voice.

Haunting and romantic, Kristen Ciccarelli’s Edgewood is an exciting novel from a bold, unforgettable voice in fantasy.

MY REVIEW

Edgewood is a truly unique young adult, fantasy novel.

Edgewood is a well-written and intriguing story that spins quite the web of mystery. I enjoyed the mysterious woods and all of the secrets they held. I loved trying to figure out who you could trust or not. This book does dive into some pretty tough issues such as memory loss and I think the author did a really great job with the way she not only handled them, but the creative spin she put on them.

My only complaint about this book is that I wish the pacing had been a little more on point. There were some parts where the story seemed to drag a bit. And I do wish that the romance between Emeline and Hawthorne had been fleshed out a little more. Yes, their romance was definitely a slow-burning one, but they really left me wanting more.

Even though I did have a couple of issues with this book, I did find it to be an enjoyable read. I really liked all of the fantasy elements and the world this author created. I thought the author was really creative with the way the tough issues were handled.

This is my first book by this author and I would definitely be interested in checking out more from her in the future.
