Scandalous Prince by Rachel Van Dyken is now live!

A mafia romance about secrets and soulmates by Rachel Van Dyken, the number one New York Times bestselling author of the Eagle Elite series.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep and miles to go, before I sleep. –Robert Frost

I was born under fire and swore to protect her until my dying day, I just never knew that one day, I’d be the very monster I was protecting her from.

She didn’t know it was me.

She didn’t know that I had no choice and would do it again and again to save her.

I may as well have given her the mark on her finger.

The one that shows where her loyalty must lie.

Because we don’t sin in silence.

And eventually, you have to pay up what you owe.

My need to protect her turned into a lie to save her.

And when she found out–I turned in to the very monster I was trying to protect her from.

Watching Violet Abandonato walk out of my life was like a knife to the chest, a wound that refused to heal.

The bosses sent me to protect her, to watch over her even though I was the demon she fled.

We both carry scars.

But if all I can have is her hate for as long as I breathe.

I’ll take it.

Because at the end of the day, I should burn in Hell forever thinking Chase Abandonato’s perfect angel would pick me–over her perfect life.

“I broke you,” I confessed.

“The worst part… is that you liked it,” she snapped right back.

Welcome to the second generation of the mafia, may the best man or woman, be left standing.

Review: Rocco (Ruin & Revenge #3) by Sarah Castille

Posted on

Mafia enforcer Rocco De Lucchi is the best in the business.

Cold, hard, and utterly ruthless, Rocco is the most dangerous of men. Feelings are a luxury he cannot afford—until a chance encounter brings him face to face with the only woman who found her way into his heart and touched his soul.

Grace Mantini has spent her whole life running from the mob. The daughter of the boss’s right-hand man, she is both a prize and a target. When Rocco walks back into her life, she wants nothing to do with the man who betrayed her and broke her heart. But only Rocco can protect her from the dangerous forces that seek to destroy her family. Can they escape the hands of fate closing around them? Or will love be the kiss of death for them both?

My Review

“Grace had flayed his soul until there was nothing left for him but to embrace the darkness he had been fighting for years. He had lived for her. Breathed for her. He would have died for her.”

“He had been drifting since he lost Grace. He’d lost faith and accepted his fate. But now that he’s found her again, and she had awakened something in him he had buried long ago. Hope.”

“For the first time, he felt a flicker of hope that maybe there was someone in the world that could handle all that he was, that maybe this time she could accept the ugliness inside him.”

Rocco was a totally unexpected and consuming read. It is the third book in the Ruin & Revenge series and it follows the story of Grace and Rocco.  Rocco is cold, ruthless and 100% dangerous. He prides himself on his ability to not let feelings cloud his mind and decisions. He’s lived a hard life and his life is about to get even more complicated when he has an unexpected reunion with Grace. Grace is the only one he ever let get close and in the end, he only ended up getting burned…. Grace has spent her whole life hating the mob. She wants nothing to do with them or the lifestyle. But, being the daughter of the boss’s right-hand man….it doesn’t leave her with much of a choice. When she is unexpectedly reunited with Rocco, it turns her whole world upside down. He broke her heart and some hurt isn’t easy to forget. Now, fate has other plans and both of their worlds will be forever changed. Can time heal all wounds? There is only one way to find out…

Overall, I thought this book was a terrific read. It pulled me in from the very first page and is a book that you can easily finish in just one sitting. I loved the idea of this story, and can’t help but fall in love with characters that deserve a second chance, despite all the odds. I adored Grace and understood her. Her life wasn’t easy and circumstances broke her. She made the best out of the cards she was dealt and was doing all she could to just survive….Rocco…Ugh! I didn’t know if I wanted to love him or slap him. He had me conflicted most of the time, but I won’t lie, as much as he frustrated me, I couldn’t wait for him to redeem himself.

I thought Rocco was a fantastic addition to the Ruin & Revenge Series. I loved all the drama and suspense. There was intriguing danger and action. There was romance and just the right amount of sexy good times. A great book to spend the day getting lost in.

Review: Luca (Ruin & Revenge #2) by Sarah Castille

Posted on

Luca Rizzoli was nearly destroyed by a brutal betrayal that cost him his family. Now a ruthless crime boss in the city of sin, he lets nothing touch his frozen heart–until a smoldering encounter with a beautiful stranger ignites his passion. One night isn’t enough for a man who takes what he wants, but his mysterious temptress has slipped away.

For two years police detective Gabrielle Fawkes has lived for revenge. But a night of indulgence with a sexy stranger changes everything. Powerful, charming, and deliciously dangerous Luca, has his own private reasons for offering to help her pursue the drug lord who killed her husband. There’s a lot Luca isn’t telling her and the more she finds out the less she wants to know.

When Gabrielle becomes the target of the drug lord she has vowed to hunt down, she must do the unimaginable: place her life in a mobster’s hands. To save her, Luca must break his Mafia ties–or risk losing Gabrielle forever.

My Review

Ugh! This was such a great read! Luca is dark, thrilling, gritty and sexy as hell. It was everything that I could possibly want in a mafia style book.

Told from multiple points of view, Luca follows the story of Luca and Gabrielle. Ever since her husband was murdered, Gabrielle has had a thirst for revenge. It’s all she’s lived and breathed. What she never planned on was Luca. You see Gabrielle doesn’t date, but meeting the charming and sexy Luca has her questioning everything. He turns her inside out in the most delicious way. But Luca harbors some very dangerous secrets. You see, there is more to Luca than meets the eye. He is ruthless and takes what he wants. These two couldn’t be more opposite if they tried. Will Gabrielle get the revenge she’s always wanted? Will she be able to handle Luca’s secrets? How much will Luca be willing to sacrifice in the name of love? You’ll just have to check this book out for yourself to find those answers and more….

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I was pulled in from page one and couldn’t help but be intrigued by Luca and Gabrielle. They made the most unlikely pair and I think that was part of what drew me to them. I mean Gabrielle is a cop and Luca is a Crime Boss. Any type of relationship between the two of them should be forbidden and doomed from the start. But, just being around these two, you could just feel the sparks between them. You knew that what they had needed to be desperately explored. A fire like theirs would not just fizzle out. So, if they wanted to be together, they would have to defy all the odds. Luca fought to be with Gabrielle. His loyalty and family values tested. And Gabrielle, her thirst for justice put her in more danger than she could ever imagine. With danger lurking around all the corners, lines will be blurred and crossed, and the most surprising twists will stop you in your tracks.

Luca was a thrilling and exciting addition to Ruin & Revenge Series. It has just the right mix of action, danger, mystery, suspense, sexy good times, romance and of course some crazy twists and turns. I really enjoyed spending my afternoon getting lost in this mafia romance and look forward to seeing what lies ahead next in the Ruin & Revenge Series.

My Review

You’re more dangerous than any drug I’ve ever heard of.”

“This might not be forever, sunshine, but you’re mine for the duration. And I take care of what’s mine.”

“There’s nowhere you could run that I wouldn’t find you.”….”And that gets you off like nothing else. Knowing that I’d rip myself apart to hunt you down, that I wouldn’t rest, wouldn’t eat, wouldn’t eat, would go mad with wanting you until you were with me again. To know that you’re fucking irreplaceable.”

Oh, man! What a great and exciting read from Katee Robert. Forbidden Promises is the fourth, thrilling addition to the O’Malley’s Series. While this is the fourth book in this series, I do believe that this book can be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone novel. Just be warned, there may be spoilers for the previous stories in this book.

Told from dual points of view, Forbidden Promises sucks you in from the very first page. Sloan has disappeared from the life she once knew, desperate for a fresh start. She wants to forget her past, but knows that there is a chance that she’ll always be looking over her shoulder. What she didn’t plan on was her mysterious neighbor Jude. Jude just oozes trouble. Known to the town as a broody writer, there is more to Jude than meets the eye. The closer Sloan gets to Jude, the more in danger she finds herself. Will Sloan’s past catch up to her before her future even gets started? Will Jude be able to walk away from his dark past? You’ll just have to read this book for yourself to find out…..

I’m just gonna keep this review short and sweet. Forbidden Promises was one entertaining read. I couldn’t turn the pages quickly enough to find out what would happen next. I loved the mystery and danger to the story. I enjoyed watching Sloan try to create a new life for herself all while waiting for the other shoe to drop. I honestly wasn’t too sure what to think of Jude in the beginning. He was hard and harsh. His body language just screamed trouble, but boy oh boy did Jude have one filthy, dirty mouth. Despite the facade that Jude was trying to put out, he had more in common with Sloan than he wanted to admit. These two were the perfect match. His wildness balancing her innocence. Together, they made one explosive couple. Sure, their relationship was a case of insta-love, but I think it lended itself really well to this story. I found their chemistry and their overall relationship to be exciting and I couldn’t wait to see how it would all play out.

Overall, Forbidden Promises was a terrific read. It was sexy and thrilling and kept me on the edge of my seat.

“Coming here was a mistake.” Sloan started to get up, but Jude hooked the band of her yoga pants and pulled her down. She ended up straddling him with a hiss of fury. “I dislike you intensely.”

“No, you don’t.” He palmed her ass, sliding her forward so she rode the ridge of his cock. “You dislike feeling out of control. Guess what, sunshine? You don’t get control when it comes to fucking me.”

Her nipples pebbled, showing through her thin tank top. They teased him even as she put her hands on his chest, her fingers kneading him and making him think of a kitten who had just discovered her claws. “And if I want control?”

“You don’t.” He wrapped one arm around her waist and used his free hand to palm her over the top of her pants. “I’ve barely touched you and you’re so fucking wet, you’re practically panting for me.”

“You are insufferable.” But she rolled her hips, rubbing herself against his hand. “I’m leaving.”

“No, you’re not. You’re going to stay here and let me lick that pretty pussy of yours until you come.” He lightly pinched her clit through the fabric, watching her face. She liked the slightest bit of pain if the way her eyes went heavy lidded was anything to go by. “And then I’m going to bend you over this couch and take what’s mine.” Until you forget why you were frightened in the first place tonight.

He wanted to hear her say yes. For all his pushing her, if she actually wanted to leave, he wasn’t about to stop her. She wanted him to push her, to corner her, to let her pretend she wasn’t making this decision every step of the way. Fuck that. He gripped her hips, lifting her and standing her on her feet. She blinked, obviously confused. “I thought…”

Jude unbuttoned his jeans, drawing the zipper down, his gaze never leaving hers. “You thought I’d take what we both know you want to give me? Newsflash, I might get off on the lady protesting too much, but that only goes so far. You want to leave, leave. I’m not going to chase you down and club you over the head, no matter how much I want you.”

She swayed a little. “That’s not fair.”

“What’s not fair is how goddamn hard I am for you. I watched your little yoga show this afternoon—don’t even pretend you didn’t know because I saw you shooting looks this way. Seeing that pert little ass of yours in the air, like you were offering yourself to me, and not being able to take what I wanted?” He grabbed her hand and pressed it against his cock. “How long do you think you could hold downward dog with my mouth on your pussy?”

Her whole body shivered, her hand clenching around his cock. Sloan’s brows slanted down. “You’re doing it again. That thing where I should slap you across your face for talking to me the way you do.”

“Do it.” Jude took her free hand and set it against his cheek. “But whatever you’re going to do if you’re not leaving, then get those fucking pants off. I’m starving for you.”

Sloan almost gave in. But she hadn’t left her entire life behind to hand over what little freedom she had to another man.

She took one step back, and then another. “You’re wrong. I don’t want to give up control.”

Lay the terms out. You don’t want this to end, but he can’t run the whole show. You can’t let it happen like that.

Sloan lifted her chin, faking a confidence she didn’t feel in the least. “Even if this is temporary, I want it on my terms.”

Jude went still. “I’m listening.”

The only way you can get what you want is to say it. She bit her lip and then charged on. “If you’re sleeping with me, then you’re sleeping with me. I don’t care if you aren’t a fan of cuddling. It’s something I require to continue this thing.”

He raised a single eyebrow. “You want me to whisper sweet nothings in your ear while you’re at it?”

“I think we can both agree that’s not how you operate.” She didn’t want the lie of sweet nothings, but she’d take the lie of his big body in bed next to hers.

Maybe it would make her feel a little less alone.

He buttoned his pants with careless efficiency. “I don’t sleep.”

Her earlier anger flared. “Then lie there and count sheep for all I care.” She couldn’t believe she was pushing this. It would be so much smarter to retreat back to the safety of her home. Lonely, yes? But at least no one could hurt her there. She was opening herself up for rejection and potentially worse when Jude shot her down.

But he didn’t say anything, just continued watching her with a strange look on his face. “This will only end in tears for you, sunshine. You want things I’m not capable of giving.”

Her heart gave a pang, but she ignored it the same way she’d been ignoring it for her entire life. “You seem to think I haven’t shed more than my fair share of tears, Jude. What are a few more?” She took a careful breath. “Those are my terms. Take them or leave them.”

And then he was towering over her, his hand sifting through her hair to tug her head back so she looked him directly in the eye. “I’m taking them, sunshine. More importantly, I’m taking you.”

His thumb traced her jaw, unspeakably tender, but then his eyes went hard, making the bottom of her stomach drop in a way that wasn’t altogether pleasant. I have the tiger by the tail.

Title: Dirty

My marriage seemed perfect from the outside looking in.
People envied me. They wanted my life, wanted to be me.

Mrs Alejandra Gambino.
Wife of Dino Gambino. Daughter of Eduardo Castillo.
Respected. Loved. Mob royalty.

They had no idea of the horrors that lurked behind closed doors.
They didn’t know I was at the lowest point a person could reach.

Enter Julius Carter.
Aloof, handsome, blue-eyed Julius Carter.

He saved me.
I screwed him over.

Now everybody was after me. My life was forfeit.
It was only a matter of time. I was a dead woman walking.

The question was, who would get to me first?

My Review

“His words are like a decree, a pledge, a vow. These are the things he would do for me. These are the things he would do to keep me safe.”

“There will be no other for me, only him, and I will make him happy. He will never regret his decision to keep me. I swear it. I am his. From this moment on, I belong to him.”

“It’s then that I know everything is going to be okay. I didn’t even realize I was looking for the reassurance. Not until I found it.”

Holy Freakin’ Wow!! What a great read!! I just can even right now!!! When I think of Dark Mafia Style books, this is exactly what I have in mind….A story that consumes me. A story that keeps me guessing. A story that has unexpected twists and turns…

In order to keep this review as spoiler free as possible, I am gonna try and keep this review short and sweet. This book….Wow, it was like the perfect storm. It was captivating, all-consuming and impossible to put down. Dirty is dark and will take you on one intense, thrilling ride. Now, I’m gonna warn you, this story is not for the faint of heart. This story is raw. It is intense. It is gritty and deals with some tough subject matter….

Dirty is fast paced and incredibly well written. You will find yourself devouring all the words, impatiently turning the pages to see what will happen next. Yes, there is a lot of darkness and intensity, but like any good book, there is light in all the darkness. There is hope. There is love and scorching hot romance. Review: An Indecent Proposal by Katee Robert

Posted on

Greed. Ambition. Violence. Those are the “values” Olivia Rashidi learned from her Russian mob family-and the values she must leave behind for the sake of her daughter. When she meets Cillian O’Malley, she recognizes the red flag of his family name . . . yet she still can’t stop herself from seeing the smoldering, tortured man. To save her family, Olivia sets out to discover Cillian’s own secrets, but the real revelation is how fast-and how hard-she’s falling for him.

Plagued by a violent past, Cillian is more vulnerable than anyone realizes. Anyone except Olivia, whose beauty, compassion, and pride have him at “hello,” even if she’s more inclined to say good-bye to an O’Malley. While his proposal of sex with no strings seems simple, what he feels for her isn’t, especially after he learns that she belongs to a rival crime family. Cillian knows that there is no escape from the life, but Olivia may be worth trying-and dying-for . . .

My Review

“You don’t want to leave. You want to be kept as much as I want to keep you.” “Which is a good goddamn thing, Olivia, because I am never letting you go.”

“The past is the past. You can’t go back and change it. You can only move forward and ensure that the mistakes you made don’t define you.”

From the moment I picked up this book, I was hooked on Cillian and Olivia. I desperately wanted to know more about Olivia and her past. I really liked just how tough Olivia was. She could take care of herself, but at the same time was just as vulnerable as the next person. She had secrets and a past and I wanted to know what she was hiding. And the more I got to know Olivia, the more I had to keep reading and see how her story would play out…Cillian really intrigued me. He seemed flighty and like he was always looking for trouble. But, the more I got to know him, the more that I saw what was hidden under the facade. There was so much more to him than what meets the eye.

Cillian and Olivia were a terrific match for each other. What was supposed to just be one night, quickly turned into something more. The two of them shared an undeniable connection. I loved that Cillian wasn’t the relationship type, but one night with Olivia just wasn’t enough. Cillian wasn’t afraid to go after what he wanted and I loved how protective he was. These two together were just explosive and I couldn’t get enough of them.

Overall, I thought this book was a pretty great read. It was a little slow at times, but I didn’t let that deter me. I really enjoyed the story-line of this book.I was hooked and left on the edge of my seat, in anticipation for what was going to happen next. I am huge fan of mafia style books and this one checked off all the boxes for me. There was plenty of hot, steamy moments. There was just the right mix of danger and suspense, drama and romance and of course, a few good twists along the way. I would definitely recommend checking this book out.

Blog Tour with Review: The Gun Runner by Scott Hildreth

Posted on
Title: The Gun Runner
Author: Scott Hildreth
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Mafia Romance, Military Romance, and Erotic Romance
Release Date: Aug 8, 2016

The first book in a seductive new series from Scott Hildreth, the #1 Amazon bestselling author of BRAWLER and HARD CORPS.

Once, I took down terrorists on the front lines as a marine.
Now I’m in the business of bad.
I’ve sold guns to people others might not approve of.
I’ve eliminated the criminals, the lowlifes and the thugs who’ve tread on my turf.
And I looked the Sicilian Mafia boss in the eye and told him to f*** off.
No one tells me no, unless it’s their last word.
I didn’t just act the part of bad—I lived it. Then she stumbled into my life.
I tried to stay away from her. Tried focusing on moving my merchandise. But one smile from Terra was like a shot to the heart.
She’s mine now. And no one threatens what’s mine.

I’ve seen a lot of terrible things in my life.
I grew up around lies and deception, and I ran away from all of them.
Until I met him.
I knew he was corrupt. I knew he was dangerous.
I should have stayed away, but my attraction to him, my needfor him, overrode my logic.
Now I love him.
If he finds out who I am, we’re done and I’ll be nothing.
I never wanted to be the Mafia princess they tried to make me, but mia familia had other plans. And what mia familia wants…it gets.
Only Michael Tripp can save me.

Tripp and Terra’s story continues in Book Two of Mafia Made, The Game Changer.

My Review

“When I’m with you, nothing else matters. When nothing else matters, the world around me dissolves, leaving only you. And. Nothing. Else. Matters.”

“Life isn’t perfect baby, and it never will be. But a bad day with you will always be better than my best day at war.”

The Gun Runner is the first book in an exciting new series by Scott Hildreth and is told from dual points of view. The Gun Runner follows the story of Michael and Terra. Michael is a former marine. He used to save the good guys and is now selling guns to the bad ones. He doesn’t take anything from anyone, especially Italian mob bosses….Terra has lived a life that most would be terrified of. She is untouchable, the daughter of a dangerous mobster. When she meets Michael, she can’t help but be drawn to him. He is everything that she’s always wanted. There’s only one problem….He can’t know who she is. Terra wants Michael to get to know who she is and fall in love with the real her and not get caught up in her identity…..

Now, if you know me, then you know that I don’t read a ton of books by male authors. That being said, Scott Hildreth is an author that has a ton of buzz surrounding him. When I heard about The Gun Runner, I just knew I had to read it. The synopsis sounded right up my alley, so I gave it a try. And let me tell you, I am so glad that I did.

Told from dual points of view, The Gun Runner is fast paced, sexy, exciting and filled with danger. This story pulls you in from the very first page and captivates you the entire time. This is a book that you can easily devour in one sitting. It will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see how things will play out.

I loved Michael and Terra from the moment I met them. Michael was tough and didn’t take crap from anyone. I loved the way that he was with Terra and appreciated how he wanted to make sure what they had was worth investing time in before he just jumped into bed with her. Terra was just plain awesome. She was badass and wasn’t afraid of anything. She is the type of woman that will go after what she wants. Put her together with Michael and those two are an explosive combination. One, that I could not get enough of.

The Gun Runner was an exciting and entertaining read. It’s well written and filled with action, suspense, secrets, lies and lots of sexy good times. This book doesn’t really end with a cliffy, but it definitely ends in a way that will leave you begging for more and dying to know what will happen next. This is my first book by this author and I for one can not wait to see what he’s got up his sleeve next for Michael and Terra.

Empire 0 days

empire smash cover art

I have lost everything.

My purpose

My love

My soul

Death knocks on my door, I want to answer, but every time I reach for the handle — the promise I made her brings me back.

So I breathe.

I live.

I hate.
And I allow the anger to oil beneath the surface of a perfectly indifferent facade. I am broken, I don’t want to be fixed.

But the Empire is crumbling and it’s my job to fix it.

My job to mend the pieces that were scattered over thirty years ago.

A trip to New York, only one chance to redeem a lost part of our mafia family.

The only issue is, the only way to fix it, is to do something I swore I’d never do again.

An arranged marriage.

Only this time.

I won’t fall.

Or so help me God, I will kill her myself.

My name is Sergio Abandonoto, you think you know my pain, my suffering, my anger, my hate?

You have no idea.

I am the mafia.

I am the darkness.

Blood in. No out.

The loving couple in the rain

Sergio looked ready to strangle me. “No. I don’t believe I asked for an annoying little sister, but if that’s what you’re offering, please don’t let me stop you. Just know, I won’t hesitate to put you over my knee if you get out of hand.”

The minute the words left his mouth. I froze.

He froze.

The taxi driver stared little laser like holes into the rearview mirror.

And Sergio leaned toward me.

I swallowed as tension swirled around us.
He gripped me by the chin and turned my head to the side, his lips brushing my ear. “It’s like you have a death wish.”

“You wouldn’t do it.”

He pulled back as both of his eyebrows shot up, and then he looked down, like he had spotted something.

I followed the direction of his gaze and let out a little gasp as a gun dug into my stomach.

“It’s been directed at you for the last four minutes,” Sergio said through a practiced smile. “I meant what I said. Listen well. I keep my word. Kiss me, and blood will be spilled.”

“Y-you’re a crazy person!” I hissed, shoving at his chest. “And I wasn’t going to kiss you!”

“Sure you weren’t.” He put the gun away. “Good talk though, right? Oh look, the movie theater.”

To say that I scrambled out of the car like a kid running away from her kidnapper would be a gross understatement, but the minute my feet hit the pavement, I paused.

My body told me to run.

The guy had pulled a gun.

On me.

I didn’t even watch violent movies.

Get the beginning of Sergio’s story in Elude

Twenty-Four hours before were were to be married–I offered to shoot her.

Ten hours before our wedding–I made a mockery of her dying wish.

Five hours before we were going to say our vows–I promised I’d never love her.

One hour before I said I do–I vowed I’d never shed a tear over her death.

But the minute we were pronounced man and wife–I knew.

I’d only use my gun to protect her.

I’d give my life for hers.

I’d cry.
And I would, most definitely, lose my heart, to a dying girl–a girl who by all accounts should have never been mine in the first place.

I always believed the mafia would be my end game–where I’d lose my heart, while it claimed my soul. I could have never imagined. It would be my redemption.

Or the beginning of something beautiful.

The beginning of her.

The end of us.

Blog Tour with Review: Hunter by Blaire Drake

Posted on

Born into blood, I was a mafia princess. Raised in hiding, I was a Californian sweetheart.

The day my father sold my thirteen year old body to pay off a five year old debt was the day my mother stole me in the dead of night. She protected me as she was supposed to.

My father may have been the king, but my mother was the queen.

The mafia blood was hers.

That was ten years ago. Now… the devil was on the loose.

Carlo ‘Hunter’ Rosso was my father’s right hand man and the boy I’d loved since I could tie my own shoelaces. He was always the most ruthless and the most deadly of all the children.

He’d thought I was dead until the day his assignment was given: Kill Adriana and Alexandria Romano. Kill the princess, and definitely kill the queen.

What he didn’t know was that the queen was dead, and the princess had taken her throne.

Blood didn’t lie. It smeared, distorted, stained. But it didn’t lie.

My father was going to learn the hard way that the empire he’d stolen belonged to me.

And so did Carlo ‘Hunter’ Rosso.

My Review

“Death? No. I didn’t fear death. A part of me welcomed it. Welcomed the silence, the peace, the black abyss. I figured that when it came, I’d be Alice jumping down the rabbit hole, except there would be no Wonderland, only numbness.”

“I wanted more of him. All of him. I wanted every single inch of his predatory, black animalistic soul. I wanted it to invade mine, so I could understand him. Breathe him. Feel him. Know him. I wanted the Hunter he was now instead of remembering him as the Hunter he was, and the only way to do that was to taunt him into loosing control.”

“People change, and so does love. I did’t want a gentle brush of his fingertips on my skin. I wanted a bruising grasp on my hips. I didn’t want a delicate kiss. I wanted my bottom lip bitten. I didn’t want my heart stolen. I wanted my breath fucked out me. I didn’t want the boy I fell for. I wanted the man he was.”

I fell in love with Blaire Drake’s writing when I picked up Dear Professor. So, when I heard that she had a new book coming out, I could not wait to get my hands on it. And let me tell you, I was not disappointed.

Told from dual points of view, Hunter follows the story of Addy and Hunter. 10 years ago, Addy was forced to leave her home and her life as she knew it behind. Everyday she hid in fear that someone would find her or realize that she was still alive. Now that 10 years have passed, Addy has had enough. She knows it’s only a matter of time before she’s discovered, but she’s tired of hiding. However, the last thing she expected was for her former best friend to show up and try to kill her…..Will Hunter be able to carry out his orders? Will Addy be able to take back the family and claim what belongs to her? There’s only one way to find out….

I have to say, I am a big fan of mafia style books, so I was really excited to get my hands on this story. And let me tell you, this book has it all. It’s got the perfect balance of sex, drama, action and betrayal. This book will keep you guessing and wondering who is on the right side. And the twists and turns will leave you holding your breath, waiting to see how everything will play out.

I really loved Hunter and Addy together. I loved their push and pull. Their chemistry was off the charts and was not meant to be denied. I really loved Hunter. His emotions and struggles were very palpable. You could feel his need to not only do the right thing, but to also be with woman that consumes his soul. I also appreciated his determination, protectiveness and fierceness when it came to Addy. And Addy…yeah, she was total badass. She had protection, but didn’t really need it. She was tough when she needed to be. Calm when the situation called for it and didn’t put up with anyone’s crap. Overall, a really awesome chick. Definitely who you want leading a crime family.

It is so hard to believe that Hunter is Blaire Drake’s second book. That’s right, you heard me, her second book. It is so well written and so entertaining, that it reads as though she has been writing for years. If you’re a fan of sexy, intriguing and action packed mafia style books, I definitely recommend picking this one up and giving it a try. I hope that you will enjoy the story as much as I did.

“Staying, are you? Figure it’s easier to kill me in my sleep?”

Once again, he rubbed his hand across his face. He said nothing.

“Trying to work out whose life is worth more, right? Mine is probably worth a lifetime of comfort for you. Kill me and everyone’s happy, right? My pathetic excuse for a father gets to keep his empire and you’re taken care of for life.”

He looked at me, and his expression was a little tortured. I was being harsh. I knew that. But I needed to be. It was easier to provoke him and be angry with him than give in to the horrible ache that had settled in my heart.

“Adriana…” Weak. The word was weak.

I wanted to ignore the indecision on his face, but I couldn’t.

He was considering it.

He really was.

I scoffed quietly at him and grabbed the gun from the coffee table. His mask and gloves fell to the floor, but he made no move to pick them up.

The safety was on the gun, and I held it out to him. “Here. Take it. I don’t care, Hunter. I don’t have much of a life here in hiding anyway.”

He didn’t even look at the gun. His silvery gaze never left mine. I wished he would look away, because in that gaze, I saw the Hunter I knew. The boy who once ripped his favorite shirt to stem the bleeding when I fell and cut my leg, then proceeded to carry me home. The boy who offered to pee on my foot when I got stung by a jellyfish in Mexico on vacation when I was seven.

The boy I loved before I knew what love even was.

“You’re weak, Hunter,” I whispered. Slowly, I turned the gun back to me and touched the barrel to my temple the way he did earlier. His jaw clenched when my thumb edged toward the safety, and when my finger moved to hook around the trigger, he moved.

He was like a lightning bolt. He came at me like a flash, snatched the gun from my hand, and dropped it on the sofa. It bounced but stayed on the seat, and then he turned on me with blazing eyes. “Don’t,” he ground out, his arms tensing and looking even bigger. “Don’t ever fucking put that to your head again.”

“Why? I was saving you the job.”

The words had barely left my lips when he pounced on me. It was deadly, the way his hands clasped my face and his mouth descended on mine. I staggered back into the wall, gasping at the ferocity of his movement. Shock paralyzed me as he kissed me harshly. His tongue ran along the seam of my mouth, and as I fisted the sides of his shirt, I bit his lower lip.

A low growl left his throat, but he didn’t relent. He just kissed me harder. He kissed me until I was fucking spinning and could barely string two thoughts together. Until my whole body was alight with his touch and responding to his every movement.

He tasted like whiskey. The strong, rich taste that lingered on his lips was heady and only added to the intoxicating way he touched me.

And then… It hit me. He was touching me. Kissing me.

Twenty minutes ago, he could have killed me.
