Briar’s life in Chicago was going great until the man she was seeing turned out to be a liar. Left with no other choice, Briar returns home to Willowbrook, searching for a fresh start. But what she didn’t expect was to find herself living with her enemy. Emmett Noughton is not only charming but the definition of a playboy. He’s the last thing she needs, but keeping him at arm’s length is harder than anticipated.
I absolutely loved this book! Titled perfectly, The One I Didn’t See Coming was exactly that; the book I didn’t see coming. From the moment Emmett and Briar were introduced, I knew their story was going to be explosive and I was not wrong. The tension between Emmett and Briar was off the charts. I couldn’t get enough of their banter and interactions. Their chemistry, they had it in spades. It was completely undeniable. Their honesty with one another was a beautiful thing and I couldn’t wait to see how their story would play out. If ever there was a couple you needed to root for, it was them.
Briar and Emmett’s road to happily ever after wasn’t easy. It was complicated and filled with a variety of obstacles. Briar had her fair share of emotional turmoil and baggage. She’s been hurt before and is afraid to trust. And her dislike for Emmett certainly didn’t help things. And Emmett…Well, you can’t help but be drawn to him. On the outside, it seems like Emmett is a player. He appears goofy and never takes anything seriously. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. There is so much more to him than meets the eye. There’s an intense, charming, sweet guy just bursting to come out; for the right woman.
The One I Didn’t See Coming is a fantastic read from beginning to end. I loved the family dynamics and drama. I loved the tension and chemistry between Briar and Emmett. There was no shortage of angst and steam as I fell head over heels for Briar and Emmett. Piper Rayne completely outdid themselves with this story and I can not wait to see what they have in store for us next.
