But that is exactly what Maverick Gunn, leader of the notorious Harbinger’s of Chaos Motorcycle Club seeks to do from the moment his lethal gaze locks on her. He burns her with every look. Every touch. Every word.

Ember’s only hope is to convince him she’s nothing like the woman who blackened his soul before he drags her down into the darkness with him.

My Review

“Without permission, he’s seared himself onto my heart. Lit a fire so deep inside me, I don’t know if it’ll ever burn out. And I know no matter where I from here, every moment we have shared will stay with me.”

Burning Ember is a fantastic start to the Harbingers of Chaos series. As a fan of the biker genre, I am always on the look for a book that is going to knock my socks off. That book that’s going to have great romance, sexual chemistry, action and grittyness….this book was just what I was looking for.

Burning Ember follows the story of Ember and Maverick. When we first meet up with Ember, she is on the run from the man who supposedly loves her. This man has taken everything away from her; her family, her love, her freedom. She swore when she escaped him, that she would never let a man treat her that way again. The last thing she ever expected was to be taken in by an MC Club. But, living in the MC world is anything but sunshine and roses. She’s going to have to fight to earn her place; show that she belongs. Only Maverick doesn’t plan on making things easy for. See, Ember reminds Maverick of someone. This someone ruined and destroyed Maverick once and he vowed to never let it happen again. Ember thought escaping her past would be her biggest challenge. However, proving Maverick wrong will be her hardest challenge yet.

Burning Ember pulled me into the story almost immediately. It was gritty and consuming. I was captivated by the life that Ember had to live and what she had to endure. Ember is tough. She’s a fighter. She tries to make the best out of every situation that she’s put in.

I’m going to be totally honest with you, I didn’t love Maverick in the beginning. He was such a jerk. Definitely the anti-hero type. I couldn’t stand the way that he treated Ember or women in general. But, as time went on, I began to understand his struggles and why he was the way that he is. I’m not in any way defending his actions, but I at least understand him. What I did love was the way he went about redeeming himself. Once he opened his eyes and saw Ember for who she was and that she wasn’t like his past, it was a life altering thing for Maverick. He had to work hard, earn Ember’s trust and really prove to Ember that there was more to him; that he wasn’t the guy she first met.

The chemistry! Wow! The chemistry between Maverick and Ember was scorching. It was a love/hate thing at first. But with time, their connection and chemistry grew into something that wouldn’t be denied. You find that the two of them really aren’t so different at all and if they can just give in and trust one another, they could be on the path to something really amazing.  Ember and Maverick’s road to HEA isn’t an easy one, but anything worth having, is worth the fight and journey that it takes to get there.

Burning Ember is a fantastic start to this series. It was well written and told from dual points of view. It was very easy to get lost in the world that Darby Briar created. I was hooked from the very first page. This story was filled with angst, romance, action, and lots of good sexy times. This book does have it’s fair share of dark, gritty and intense moments, with a few good twists thrown in along the way.

Burning Ember is my first book by Darby Briar and all I can say is that I am impressed. She has made a fan out of me and I can not wait to see where she will take us next!
