New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett goes for a hat trick with the latest romance in a sexy series about cool-as-ice hockey players and the women heating up their lives.
Rising star Zack Grantham has been stuck in a downward spiral of grief ever since the car accident that left him a single dad and put his career on hold. Back on the road with the Carolina Cold Fury and still crippled by emotional baggage, he’s in need of some serious help with his son. But while the nerdy new nanny wins his son’s heart, Zack isn’t sure he’s ready for a woman’s touch—even after getting a glimpse of the killer curves she’s hiding under those baggy clothes.
Kate Francis usually keeps men like Zack at a distance. Though his athlete’s body is honed to perfection, he refuses to move on with his life—and besides, he’s her boss. Still, the sparks between them are undeniable, tempting Kate to turn their professional relationship into a personal one. But before she makes a power play for Zack’s wounded heart, Kate will have to open him up again and show him that love is worth the fight.
My Review
Ever since I finished Garrett’s book, I have been on pins and needles waiting for Zack’s story. Zack is still dealing with the aftermath of the car accident that left him as a single father and the injuries he sustained that put his career on hold. Zack has just been trying to hold it together. His grief getting the better of him and making him unable to move forward. He is a shell of a man: sad, cold, angry. Now he finds himself cleared from his injuries and will be returning to work soon. Only problem, he’s got to find someone to help with his son, Ben. But, the new nanny may turn out to be more than he bargained for. There’s just something about Kate. She can’t help but make you smile. She’s not the typical woman that Zack would be drawn to. Kate always keeps herself hidden and doesn’t realize just how special she really is. And who knew, hiding under all the baggy clothes and nerdy glasses, was a total knockout. Kate might be there to just take care of Zack’s son, but she might just be able to bring Zack back to life as well.
Zack’s story was just heartbreaking. Zack is struggling to move on. He’s consumed with guilt over loosing Gina, Ben’s mom. Zack loved Gina, but he was always holding back, unable to give her the one thing that she really wanted. And that issue helped play a big part in his grief over loosing her. It’s tough and Zack’s struggle is very real. Kate is the first person in months that is able to make him feel something. She makes him feel alive and wanted. But his guilt and anger consumes him. It makes his attraction a difficult pill to swallow.
Kate. I just adored her. She has the best personality. So bright, so cheery. She was amazing with Zack’s son. They shared an instant connection. Not only did she brighten up Ben’s life, but she brought light into Zack’s too. Kate is the total opposite of what Zack is used to and might be just what he needs. The attraction between the two of them was so palpable, so hot. You could almost feel the pages melting with tension. I loved the push and pull between them. The will they, won’t they. Will they open their eyes and hearts to more? Zack frustrated me at times because of how he treated Kate, but realistically, he’s just a broken man, grieving, trying to do the best that he can and is terrified of letting anyone get close again.
I loved Zack’s story. I was completely lost in the pages and devoured each line. I was hooked on the characters and loved spending more time with old friends. This book had everything that I was looking for in a great Sawyer Bennett read. Once again, Sawyer Bennett has set up the next story perfectly. I am dying to know more about Ryker and can’t want to get my hands on his story.
