BLURB

My brother’s best friend, NHL god Easton Scotch, has always seen me as a kid. Now, I’m his new roommate and I’m determined to show him that Claire Merrick is all grown up.

Boston Hawks left wing and bad boy personified, Easton is untouchable, reckless, and sexier than any one man ought to be. He has a complicated past, makes questionable life choices, and doesn’t want anyone growing too close. Least of all me.

East makes himself clear on his first day out of rehab, when we become reluctant roommates. At best, I’m angling for friendship. But soon, East is lowering his guard and we’re bonding.

When we cross a line there’s no coming back from, he spirals, jeopardizing his recovery and my heart. If Easton is the risk taker, then why does it feel like I’m the one gambling it all?

EXCERPT

“I want you, Claire. I want you in every way imaginable. But I can’t lose everything, including you, when this goes sideways between us.”
“Why would it go sideways?” Her voice catches and I hate the uncertainty I always manage to fill her with.
“Because I’m messed up, babe. And I will ruin this. It’s only a matter of time.”
She shakes her head, her eyes as clear as a summer sky. “I don’t believe that.”
I chuckle harshly and move to lean back in my chair.
“If you take me to your bed, Easton, you can’t just walk away from me.”
“I know that,” I say, a strange mixture of anger and relief clogging my throat.
“So don’t.” She throws out, her eyes flaring with challenge.
“Don’t what?”
“Don’t ruin it. You’ve always been a risk taker, Easton. A gambler.”
I blow out a breath, not refuting her statement. Because it’s the truth. I take big risks, willing to lose it all, for that one moment of having it all. “I won’t risk you, Claire.”

About the Book

Eden’s entire life changed in an instant. After enduring a messy breakup and the death of her grandfather, she’s the new owner of his business, a struggling hockey franchise.

Bad things happen in threes, right?

Not one to back down from a challenge, she jumps in with both stilettos. There’s just one tempting and sinfully handsome problem . . . her new head of security, Holt Rossi.

Eden and Holt share a complicated history, one steamy night in college that she’s never forgotten. The man is about as mild-mannered as a pack of wolves, and now he’s back in her life, crowding her space, edging out all her good sense. And Holt hasn’t changed a bit. The emotionally damaged, sexy-as-hell beast of a man has her tied up in knots yet again.

But temptation proves to be too much for either of them to handle. Holt, for one, is willing to overlook the rules or even slam right through them, if it means he can have Eden again.

Between her ex—a bad-boy hockey player—and her distractingly handsome head of security, Eden is in for a bumpy ride.

Warning: This romance contains one growly, broken hero; a bunch of rowdy hockey players; and a smart, hardworking heroine whose life hasn’t been all sunshine

Review: Hawke (Cold Fury Hockey #5) by Sawyer Bennett

Posted on

hawke

The Carolina Cold Fury hockey team proves that love is a power play. As Sawyer Bennett’s New York Times bestselling series continues, the league’s most notorious party animal gets blindsided by the one that got away.

Off the ice, elite defenseman Hawke Therrien enjoys his fair share of booze and good times. And why shouldn’t he? He’s worked his way up from the minor leagues and made himself a star. The only thing Hawke misses from that life is the pierced, tattooed free spirit who broke his heart without so much as an explanation. She’s almost unrecognizable when she walks back into his life seven years later—except for the look in her eyes that feels like a punch to the gut.

Vale Campbell isn’t the same girl she was at twenty. As crazy as she was about Hawke, her reckless behavior and out-of-control drinking were starting to scare her. She had to clean up her act, and that would never happen with Hawke around. Cutting him loose was the hardest thing Vale ever had to do—until now. Because she’s still crazy about Hawke. And if he could ever learn to forgive her, they just might have a future together.

My Review

“He stares at me, those eyes reminiscent of the way sunlight dances on the blue sea. Such intensity…such need and desire. Such wariness I also see, but also a tiny bit of care. Such emotions that I can’t even begin to guess what he could be thinking.”

Hawke is the fifth book in the Cold Fury Hockey series, but can totally be read a stand-alone. Once again, Sawyer Bennett has provided me with a wonder story about first love and a great second chance romance.

Hawke is told from dual points of view and follows the story of Vale and Hawke. Vale and Hawke had a love that people only wish they could have. They were young, wild and free. They loved hard and partied even harder. Everything was going great for these two young lovers until one day. One day, Vale will make a decision that will change things between the two of them for forever. Vale and Hawke will go 7 years before they will be reunited again. Not a single day has gone by that Hawke hasn’t wondered about Vale. Sure, on the outside he appears to be living the life, but Vale still holds a very big piece of Hawke’s heart. So, seeing Vale again, after all those years, was like a wake up call. At first, Hawke is pissed and wants answers. But, as time goes on and these two are around each other more, Hawke realizes that maybe he’s not quite over Vale…..Vale thought she made the right decision all those years ago, but one look at Hawke, and she is questioning everything. Of course there’s a lot of pain and misunderstanding on both of their parts, but some parts of the past just won’t go away; especially those pesky feelings of love. Will Hawke and Vale be able to move on from the past and forgive & forget??? Only one way to find out…..

Overall, I really enjoyed Hawke and Vale’s story. It was captivating and entertaining. I am a big sucker for second chance romances, so I knew I just had to check this one out. I did find myself a little frustrated with Vale. I didn’t really buy her reasoning for breaking up with Hawke. It just seemed so out of character for her; especially with the way that she loved Hawke. I don’t believe she would let go of him so easily. That being said, I did enjoy Hawke and Vale together. I thought they had excellent chemistry, and the two of them definitely burned up the pages together.

Hawke is a great addition to the Cold Fury Hockey series. It was a quick, but fun read and was filled with lots of drama, frustration and sexy good times.

Review: Ryker (Cold Fury Hockey #4) by Sawyer Bennett

ryker

The rugged men of the Carolina Cold Fury hockey team are winning hearts once again in another scorching novel fromNew York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett.

The stakes have never been higher for Carolina Cold Fury goalie Ryker Evans. With his contract running out, he’s got a year left to prove he’s still at the top of his game. And since his wife left him, Ryker has been balancing life as a pro-hockey star and a single parent to two daughters. Management is waiting for him to screw up. The fans are ready to pounce. Everybody’s taking dirty shots—except for the fiery redhead whose faith in Ryker gives him a fresh start.

As the league’s only female general manager, Gray Brannon has learned not to mix business with pleasure. And yet even this tough, talented career woman can’t help breaking her own rules as she gives Ryker everything she’s got. She hopes their hot streak will last forever, but with Ryker’s conniving ex plotting to reclaim her man, the pressure’s on Gray to step up and save a tender new love before it’s too late.

My Review

“For the first time in my life, I feel interest in something other than my career. I feel need. I feel happy. I feel cherished. I. Feel. Everything. And I don’t want to let it go.”

When we first met up with Ryker in Zack’s story, I have to tell you; he was someone I wanted to know more about. Ryker was a newly single father, just trying to get a handle on things. I couldn’t wait to finally hear his story…..

Ryker has everything going for him. He’s at the top of his game, and he’s an amazing dad to his two young daughters. However, thanks to his cheating ex-wife, he’s made some not so good decisions, which has everyone just waiting for him to mess up again. Things are about to be shaken up even more when his team announces that they’ve hired a female general manager. And let me tell you, this more than ruffles a few feathers. Gray has got her work cut out for her. Gray is not only beautiful, but super smart. But she’s living in a man’s world, trying to do a man’s job and a lot of people aren’t ok with that. In fact, one of her only supporters is Ryker. Ryker should be off limits, but there’s just something about him that just keeps pulling her in. Will Gray give into what she wants with Ryker? Or will they both learn the hard way that you shouldn’t mix business with pleasure?

Overall, I really enjoyed this read. I loved a good work place romance and this one did not disappoint. It had a really great forbidden quality to it. Ryker and Gray entering into a secret relationship because it would ruin both of their careers. I loved the chemistry between Ryker and Gray. It was hot and undeniable. I loved watching the two of them together and seeing how they would navigate this relationship that they were in.

Ryker was a quick and easy read for me. Sawyer Bennett once again delivers a perfectly balanced book that leaves me begging for more. It hit all the marks for me, giving me just the right mix of angst, romance, drama and scorching hot sexy times. The main characters are intriguing and easy to connect with. Their problems are those that real people face down everyday; making them even easier to relate to. The secondary characters are a joy as always. I can never say no to more Alex, Garrett or Zack. It’s impossible not to love those guys.

I honestly can’t say enough about this book or this series. I fell in love with this series when I first met Alex and kept coming back for more. Each book giving me more amazing stories and characters. As this series/this book comes to an end, my only complaint is that it’s over. However, these characters will live on, on my kindle forever. Fans of this series, I definitely recommend checking this one out and hope you fall in love with Ryker and Gray the way I did.

Review: Zack (Cold Fury Hockey #3) by Sawyer Bennett

Posted on

zackNew York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett goes for a hat trick with the latest romance in a sexy series about cool-as-ice hockey players and the women heating up their lives.

Rising star Zack Grantham has been stuck in a downward spiral of grief ever since the car accident that left him a single dad and put his career on hold. Back on the road with the Carolina Cold Fury and still crippled by emotional baggage, he’s in need of some serious help with his son. But while the nerdy new nanny wins his son’s heart, Zack isn’t sure he’s ready for a woman’s touch—even after getting a glimpse of the killer curves she’s hiding under those baggy clothes.

Kate Francis usually keeps men like Zack at a distance. Though his athlete’s body is honed to perfection, he refuses to move on with his life—and besides, he’s her boss. Still, the sparks between them are undeniable, tempting Kate to turn their professional relationship into a personal one. But before she makes a power play for Zack’s wounded heart, Kate will have to open him up again and show him that love is worth the fight.

My Review

Ever since I finished Garrett’s book, I have been on pins and needles waiting for Zack’s story. Zack is still dealing with the aftermath of the car accident that left him as a single father and the injuries he sustained that put his career on hold. Zack has just been trying to hold it together. His grief getting the better of him and making him unable to move forward. He is a shell of a man: sad, cold, angry. Now he finds himself cleared from his injuries and will be returning to work soon. Only problem, he’s got to find someone to help with his son, Ben. But, the new nanny may turn out to be more than he bargained for. There’s just something about Kate. She can’t help but make you smile. She’s not the typical woman that Zack would be drawn to. Kate always keeps herself hidden and doesn’t realize just how special she really is. And who knew, hiding under all the baggy clothes and nerdy glasses, was a total knockout.  Kate might be there to just take care of Zack’s son, but she might just be able to bring Zack back to life as well.

Zack’s story was just heartbreaking. Zack is struggling to move on. He’s consumed with guilt over loosing Gina, Ben’s mom. Zack loved Gina, but he was always holding back, unable to give her the one thing that she really wanted. And that issue helped play a big part in his grief over loosing her. It’s tough and Zack’s struggle is very real. Kate is the first person in months that is able to make him feel something. She makes him feel alive and wanted. But his guilt and anger consumes him. It makes his attraction a difficult pill to swallow.

Kate. I just adored her. She has the best personality. So bright, so cheery. She was amazing with Zack’s son. They shared an instant connection. Not only did she brighten up Ben’s life, but she brought light into Zack’s too. Kate is the total opposite of what Zack is used to and might be just what he needs. The attraction between the two of them was so palpable, so hot. You could almost feel the pages melting with tension. I loved the push and pull between them. The will they, won’t they. Will they open their eyes and hearts to more? Zack frustrated me at times because of how he treated Kate, but realistically, he’s just a broken man, grieving, trying to do the best that he can and is terrified of letting anyone get close again.

I loved Zack’s story. I was completely lost in the pages and devoured each line. I was hooked on the characters and loved spending more time with old friends. This book had everything that I was looking for in a great Sawyer Bennett read. Once again, Sawyer Bennett has set up the next story perfectly. I am dying to know more about Ryker and can’t want to get my hands on his story.

Review: Garrett (Cold Fury Hockey #2) by Sawyer Bennett

Carolina Cold Fury star Garrett Samuelson never wants to miss out on a single minute of fun. Whether he’s playing hockey, hanging out with friends, or walking the red carpet with a new date on his arm, he lives every day to the fullest. When he meets Olivia Case, he sees someone who’s exactly his type—confident, sexy, smart . . . his next fling. But the more he pursues her, the more Garrett shares a side of himself that other women don’t normally get to see.

Olivia has been keeping a secret. While Garrett lives for the next thrill, Olivia’s not sure she’ll live to see the next day. She’s undergoing treatment for some serious medical issues, and she doesn’t have time for a relationship with no guarantees—especially one with a hot-as-sin womanizer who won’t take no for an answer. But as she gets to know the real Garrett, Olivia can’t help falling for him . . . hard. To reveal the truth would mean risking everything—but you can’t score without taking the tough shots.

My Review

Garrett is the second book in the Cold Fury Hockey series and follows the story of Garrett and Olivia. When we are first introduced to Garrett, he appears to just be enjoying the single life. He’s playing hockey, having fun, never spends more than one night with the same woman. He’s just living his life to the fullest. When he meets Olivia, she turns his whole world upside down. She’s smart, sexy and doesn’t fawn all over him. She challenges him. Suddenly, Garrett finds himself wanting more from his life….

Olivia has just been living life. She’s got a secret and doesn’t want to have anyone new in her life. When faced with a life changing medical diagnosis, Olivia starts seeing things differently. She decides to take a chance and get to know who Garrett is and he’s nothing like she expected. The more she gets to know him, the more she starts to fall for him. But, is falling for him, the best thing that she can do right now? When the truth comes out, will Garrett still be in her corner?

I really enjoyed Garrett’s story. I loved watching his relationship develop with Olivia. She was so very stubborn and afraid to let anyone get close to her, but Garrett proved that he was worth taking the risk on. I really enjoyed all the characters. They were very entertaining and easy to relate to. We got introduced to a few new characters and there is one in particular that I can’t wait to hear more about.

I thought this book had a great push and pull to it. I loved the way that the author handled Olivia’s illness and the fears that someone faces when they’re afraid they’re going to die. It was very realistic and I think that, that made the characters even more easier to relate to.

This book made me laugh, cry, swoon and of course, what would a Sawyer Bennett book be without a little angst and frustration?? 🙂 I loved the message that I took away from this book and that is that life is way too short to sweat the small stuff. Don’t let your fears cloud your judgement. Don’t be afraid to let someone in and fall in love….

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I devoured it in one sitting and couldn’t have been happier with the way things worked out. There are some events that take place in this book that set up what we can expect in the next one and I’m really looking forward to reading that characters story. If you are a fan of Sawyer Bennett’s books, you will not be disappointed!
