Review: Catching Summer (Second Chances #6) by L.P. Dover

Posted on

Falling for someone can be dangerous, especially when someone wants to take them away from you. But what happens when fighting for the one you love could cost them their life?

For over two years, Summer Jacobs has tried to get her life back on track. A former nurse and now a prestigious restaurant owner, she’s living the dream just like her husband wanted. After watching him get killed in the MMA ring and almost losing her life herself, it left a scar on her soul. The thought of moving on scares her, but the local NFL star, Evan Townsend, is determined to catch her heart.

Forced to work with him and the football team, Summer succumbs to his relentless attempts at capturing her heart. He has the power to heal her, but there’s someone out there who wants to keep them apart. Even if it means getting rid of Evan permanently. Summer is being chased by hidden dangers and it’s up to Evan to catch her. The question is . . . will he get to her in time?

My Review

Catching Summer is a wonderful second chance romance and it follows the story of Summer and Evan. For the past two years, Summer has been desperately trying to get her life back after tragically loosing her husband. Her loss has been a tough one, one that invades her dreams and has completely consumed her. But, now 2 years later, Summer has picked herself up and is living her life the way her husband would have wanted. And although the thought of moving on terrifies her, she knows that her husband would not have wanted her to be alone…Summer wasn’t ready or prepared for Evan, but when the two of them are forced together, they can’t deny the sparks that fly between them. Only not everyone is thrilled about Evan and Summer being together. Someone is trying to keep them apart and that someone will stop at nothing to achieve that goal….Will Summer get a second chance at love and life?

Catching Summer was well written and a really sweet second chance romance. One of the first things that drew me to this book was the cover. I love, love, love covers! After that, I had to read the synopsis. I really wanted a good, angsty read. And this book more than delivered on the angst and drama factor.

I loved Evan and Summer together. My heart ached for the way that Summer lost her husband and I just wanted her to find some happiness. She definitely deserved it. One of things I really loved and appreciated was how Evan was with Summer. He didn’t try to rush her. He was patient and understanding. You could tell that his feelings for Summer were genuine. Yes, he did have some alpha male/protective tendencies, but he was very swoon-worthy. And Summer….I can’t even imagine having to go through what she did. And after everything, she came out stronger than ever and determined to live her life. Evan was just what she needed.

Overall, I found Catching Summer to be a really great second chance romance. It was a quick and easy read for me. It was entertaining and definitely held my interest. It had just the right amount of angst, drama, romance and suspense. Yes, there was some suspense and mystery thrown into this love story. I really loved those twists and turns. They were very unexpected and really kept things interesting. This is the sixth book in the Second Chances series, but it can totally be read as a stand-alone.

Review: Jackson’s Trust (Fourth Down #1) by Violet Duke

Posted on

New York Times bestselling author Violet Duke kicks off her sizzling-hot new Fourth Down series with a friends-to-lovers romance between a no-strings-attached sports analyst and the hottest damn tomboy he’s ever met.

It’s no secret that sports analyst Jackson Gray doesn’t do relationships. What is a secret, however, is the reason why. Jackson’s life is . . . complicated. And it doesn’t help that his current hands-off “friendship” is with the cute-as-hell new sideline reporter he’s assigned to train. Turns out, not only is the woman damn sweet, she also knows as much about football as he does. Like it or not though, Jackson has to remind himself that sex is the only thing he has to offer . . . until now.

Leila Hart’s fast-growing friendship with Jackson is something she’d never risk, no matter how unbelievably seductive the reward. Becoming an NFL sportscaster has always been the goal, and thanks to Jackson’s fierce support and mentoring, it all finally seems within reach. Problem is, a girl can only take so much of that sexy-as-sin voice whispering dirty, filthy football stats in her ear before she loses all self-control. A workplace romance with Jackson is a disaster waiting to happen, especially for someone with big dreams . . . and secrets of her own.

My Review

“Every emotion was a shard of broken glass that made her bleed even more, every thought and memory like salt on each new laceration.”

I’m just going to keep this review short and sweet. Jackson’s Trust was a quick and easy read for me. The story-line was fresh and intriguing. The characters were a lot of fun and I really enjoyed getting to know more about them. I fell in love with Jackson and Leila instantly. The two of them were such a wonderful match. I loved their connection and how they both loved sports. It was fun watching Jackson try to fight his feelings for Leila and leave his playboy ways behind. Leila was a ton of fun. Not only was she super smart, but she really knew her sports. I felt bad for her that she tried to keep her smarts hidden, but I totally get why she did it. She was afraid that she wouldn’t be taken seriously and when you’re in a mostly man’s job, I totally get it. I loved the easy friendship that Leila developed with Jackson and I honestly couldn’t wait to see them give into what we all know they wanted.

Overall, I thought this was a great read. This is my first book by this author and I have to tell you, I am super stoked to read more from her. This author’s writing style is fun and entertaining. It made me laugh and swoon.  I honestly enjoyed everything about this book, from start to finish. Jackson’s Trust is a swoon-worthy workplace/friends to lovers romance, that has just the right mix of romance, laughter, angst and drama. I think this new series is off to a terrific start and I’m looking forward to seeing where the series will go from here.

Maverick “the Avenger” Cage wants to rise to the top and become a legend in the ring. Though he keeps his identity well guarded, he’s known on the fighting circuit as the new kid with a chip on his shoulder and a tattoo on his back that marks him as trouble. He’s got a personal score to settle with the Underground’s one and only Remington “Riptide” Tate.

As Mav trains, he meets a young girl—the only other new person in the town–and sparks fly. When things get heated between them, he finds out she’s none other than Reese Dumas, the cousin of Remington Tate’s wife. A girl who’s supposed to root against him and a girl he’s supposed to stay away from.

But Maverick fights for the woman in his heart, and the monsters in his blood. The world’s eyes are on them and the victor will go down in history as the ultimate fighting champion; the ultimate LEGEND.

My Review

“He looks at me as if he’s been waiting for me for a long time. I feel like I too have been waiting for him for long time. It makes no sense. It’s just a look, and just a feeling. You never know what really lies under a look and you can’t apply reason to every feeling. But it’s all there. Tangible, palpable. As though there’s a string between us, one end in him, and the other end in me.”

“I want to be a legend. Legends never die. Even if they die alone.”

What an amazing ride. Legend is the sixth book in the Real series and it reminded me of exactly why I fell in love with this series. The Real Series was my first venture into MMA romances. From the moment I picked up that first book, I was hooked. And with each book, I fell more in love with this series. Legend is no exception. Legend is a truly special read. The writing pulled me in from the very first page and reminded me of exactly why I fell in love with this series in the first place.

Legend follows the story of Maverick and Reese and is told from dual points of view. Maverick has struggled with who is and what he will become, his entire life. He’s always felt broken because he had a father who didn’t want him. Yes, he had an amazing mother, but he wanted to prove to his father and to the world that he was worth something. Only proving himself might be harder than Maverick ever thought possible. The identity of who is father is, is hurting him, more than helping him. No one wants to take a chance on him. And all Maverick wants is that chance. The chance to rise above what everyone thinks of him….Reese Dumas is trying to figure out her life. She’s at a crossroads and desperately wants to find who Reese really is. So, when she gets an opportunity to help out her cousin and her husband Remy, she jumps on it. A change of scenery might just be what she needs. What she didn’t plan on was Maverick. She’s drawn to him in a way that she’s never been drawn to a man before. She knows she should stay away, but she just can’t. The chemistry between the two of them is undeniable. They both have demons that they are trying to fight and deserve a HEA.  When the truth about who Maverick really is comes out, will Reese stay in his corner??

What can I say about Legend? Here’s what I can tell you…This book is well-written and captivating. It pulls you in instantly. The story-line is refreshing and makes you believe in second chances and to not judge someone based on who their family is. I loved Reese and Maverick together. Reese gave Maverick a chance when no one else did. She gave him hope and made him want to fight for the things that he wanted. She showed him that he deserved more and that she could look past who his family was. I adored Maverick. He had so much rejection in his life and instead of letting it get him down, he worked hard to prove everyone wrong and make something of himself. And the chemistry between Reese and Maverick was off the charts. I loved their dynamic and the push & pull they had.

I loved every single second of Legend. It exceeded my expectations. This story is filled with angst, romance, and drama. The characters are real and complicated. They are so easy to connect with and so easy to root for. I really enjoyed spending more time with Remy and Brooke. It warmed my heart to see just how far those two have come. Legend is a fantastic addition to the Real Series. It not only gave me an amazing story, but it gave me the best possible ending to one of my favorite series.

At Tate’s corner, outside the ropes, his coach whistles. “You two get some headgear on. Stat.”

Tate’s lips curl rebelliously, and he looks at me with challenge in his eyes.

I smile back, a feral curl of my lips.

We tap gloves.

No headgear.

I jab. He swings his arm, blocks the hit, leaps back, and I jab again, blocked again.

We space apart and jump in place, shaking our shoulders, loosening up. I pull my gloves back up, narrow my eyes, and he asks, “You think you’re the shit because you’re fast and strong? I got news for you. I’m faster, I’m stronger, and I’m disciplined. Your coach isn’t doing you any favors.”

“He’s in my corner, and that’s enough for me.”

He swings, I duck fast and come up behind him. He straightens and faces me again. “If you settle for that, then you should settle for second place.”

“What the fuck. You want me to win?”

“I want a good fight. I like keeping things real. Reminds me I’m a man. Mortal.”

“I want to be a legend. Legends never die. Even if they die alone.”

He swings again, and I duck, come up, and jab three times.

He blocks repeatedly, then hooks with his right; I deflect. He grins and jabs again. I block, then I duck before he puts me up against the ropes, and I head back to center. He follows.

“To be a legend you need to fall seven times, get up eight,” he says.

I remember a final a few years ago when my father kicked Tate to a pulp. “Or not fall at all.”

He backs up his arm and then smacks the smirk right off me. “Before you stop falling, you need to embrace the fact that you’re going to hit the ground.”

I clean the blood from my mouth, glowering.

We take positions again, and he watches me as if waiting for my next move as we start dancing around, jumping, waiting for the other to strike.

“Do you want the headgear now?”

I lunge and start hitting, and he blocks, deflects, blocks. “Fuck you,” I grit out.

“Getting angry doesn’t help. You control the anger, not let it control you.”

I want to prove him wrong; I loop out my arm and aim for his head.

He ducks and hooks, his knuckles cracking into my jaw. I spurt blood and bounce against the ropes.

I shake my head, wipe the blood away, grit my teeth and straighten, narrowing my eyes. “My turn,” I growl, and I swing. My fist connects: a kidney punch.

He blocks my next hit, frowning in thought. “You’re cocky for someone who just lost yesterday.”

He jabs.

I dive my upper body to the side, evading. “You got to play it to become it.”

“I’m the champion, not you.”

“You won’t live forever, champ.”

He jabs three times, then leaps back, flexes his arm and looks at it.

“Muscle memory. You hit enough times, you fight on instinct; part of your brain works on your assault, the other is focused on the other’s assault. Let your muscle memory work for you and consciously stay focused on your opponent’s eyes.”

I laugh mockingly. “I don’t need your pointers.”

“Go back home to daddy, then.”

“When I’m finished with you.” I punch him, then raise my left hook and connect hard enough to stun him.

He raises his head, shakes it to clear it, and wipes blood from his nose. I catch my breath, satisfied I got some blood. At least I won’t be the only one with an ice pack tonight.

He sees the blood on his arm and looks at me, impressed.

“TIME!” his coach yells out from the corner. “You two won’t have shit for the fight if you keep up this nonsense.”

Tate grins at him, then turns back and glowers at me. “You get enough?”

“Barely warming up here.” I squint the blood out of one eye and raise my gloves. “Come get it, Riptide,” I growl.

Review: I Wish You Were Mine by Lauren Layne

Perfect for fans of Alice Clayton and Emma Chase, Lauren Layne’s Oxford series heats up in this story of forbidden desire as a brooding jock hoping for a comeback falls for a woman who’s strictly off-limits.

A year ago, Jackson Burke was married to the love of his life and playing quarterback for the Texas Redhawks. Now he’s retired, courtesy of the car accident that ruined his career—and single, after a nasty scandal torpedoed his marriage. Just as he’s starting to get used to his new life as a health and fitness columnist for Oxford magazine, his unpredictable ex shows up on his doorstep in Manhattan. Jackson should be thrilled. But he can’t stop thinking about the one person who’s always been there for him, the one girl he could never have: her younger sister.

Mollie Carrington can’t say no to Madison. After all, her older sister practically raised her. So when Madison begs for help in winning her ex-husband back, Mollie’s just glad she got over her own crush on Jackson ages ago—or so she thought. Because as Mollie reconnects with Jackson, she quickly forgets all her reasons to stay loyal to her sister. Tempted by Jackson’s mellow drawl and cowboy good looks, Mollie is sick and tired of coming in second place. But she can’t win if she doesn’t play the game.

My Review

“You want me to talk your language? You’re my worm, Mollie. The creepy, mate-for-life variety. I’m here to stay, Mollie. Because of you. You, who’ve always been there. And no, my romantic feeling for you don’t have the long roots that yours do for me, but that doesn’t make them any less intense. And they are intense, Molly.”

I am completely addicted to Lauren Layne’s writing. The minute I hear that she’s got a new book coming out, I can’t wait to read it! I Wish You Were Mine is the second book in the Oxford series, but could be read as a stand-alone.

I Wish You Were Mine is told from dual points of view and follows the story of Mollie and Jackson. Jackson had it all; the career he wanted and a loving wife. However, Jackson’s life was far from perfect. You see, once Jackson married Madison, he actually saw the woman that he married and he did not like what he saw. His wife was selfish and hardly around, and not to mention she cheated on him, lots. When Jackson is forced to retire from football due to a life changing car crash, the last thing he was expecting was for his wife to divorce him when he needed her the most. Jackson now finds himself in New York, attempting to move on with his life…..Mollie has always admired her sister. Even when her sister does things she can’t stand or doesn’t agree with, she always remains true to her. Mollie will soon find herself in an awkward position. You see, she has the worst roommate ever and needs to move out. However, she can’t afford to get a place on her own. The last thing she expected was for Jackson to let her temporarily move in with him. You had to know that this would be a recipe for disaster. Not only because of Jackson being her sister’s ex, but because Mollie has always had a thing for Jackson. And now that the two of them are living together, it complicates things even more. Jackson is opening his eyes to a Mollie he’s never known before. And poor Mollie, well, lets just say that her crush on Jackson, never went away……..

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was a super quick and easy read for me. I fell in love with Jackson and Mollie right away. I loved how Mollie teased Jackson and tried to remind him of who he used to be. I thought the two of them had great chemistry. I loved how smart Mollie was and could definitely appreciate her struggle with remaining loyal to her sister, but also wanting to take a chance with Jackson. Madison: Ugh, there was no love lost there. I loathed her. All she cared about was her agenda and could care less about the little sister that was loyal to her.

I Wish You Were Mine was a great follow up to Irresistibly Yours. I found myself hooked and unable to put this book down. I found the characters to be enjoyable. I thought this was a good friends to lovers romance. My only complaint was that Mollie and Madison were sisters. It did make the situation a little awkward.

I Wish You Were Mine was just the read that I was looking for. It had the perfect mix of angst, light drama and romance. I’m excited to continue on with the series and see who’s story we will be getting next. I hope. I hope. I hope that we get Lincoln’s story next! Fingers crossed!

My Review

“I stared into the eyes of the man I love without a doubt, and there’s no question that this is who I was made for, the man I was supposed to spend the rest of my life with. Our love–it’s unbreakable. “

Xavier Cold is finally here!!! I can not even begin to tell you how excited I was to get my hands on this book. I have been waiting and I mean waiting a long time for this book to get into my hands. And now that it’s finally here, I couldn’t be happier.

Xavier Cold picks up right where we left off in Phenomenal X and I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve been dying to know what happened next. When we meet up with Xavier and Anna again, they are still reeling from what happened at his fight. Xavier will quickly find that his actions had some big consequences. Xavier feels lost and like his world is coming apart at the seams. He will find himself with no choice, but to return to his childhood home until the dust settles. But, returning home is anything but good. You see, when Xavier returns home, some parts of his past refuse to stay hidden. What will happen when Xavier’s past wants to become a part of his future? Will Anna be able to help Xavier fight his demons and get the life he’s always wanted??

I have to tell you, it was so good to be with Anna and Xavier again. I loved the two of them together. I thought the love they had for one another was real special and they certainly had their share of ups and downs while on their journey to HEA. Things are definitely still challenging for the two of them in this book and their relationship will be tested in more ways than one, this go around.

Xavier Cold was a quick and easy read for me. It is told from dual points of view and can easily be read in one sitting. This book had plenty of drama, angst, frustration, romance and sexy good times. So, why did I rate this book only 3.5 stars? Well, here’s the thing, the story was too fast paced. I know. I know. I usually love my books to be fast paced, but this was too much. Parts of the story just felt too rushed and left me wanting more. I wanted things to slow down. I wanted to enjoy the characters a little more and I wanted to see them work through their issues; maybe a little more fighting for the things that they wanted. My other problem was the drama. Yes, we did need some drama. That being said, I felt like there was just too much. I can’t give you any details because if I do, it will spoil things. Lets just say that I felt like a lot of it was unnecessary and that’s why I couldn’t give this book a 4 star rating.

Other than those issues, I found this to be an enjoyable read. I loved getting to spend more time with Xavier and Anna again. I was excited to see how their story would turn out and I’m happy to finally have those answers.

blindsided newFrom Emma Hart, the New York Times bestselling author of the Game series, comes a brand new series where the game is realer, the tension is tighter, the sex is hotter, and the stakes are the highest of all…

Two people. Two agendas. Two games.
What happens when the out-there It-Boy of football meets the secret It-Girl of fashion?

As the daughter of Hollywood’s sweetheart, Leah Veronica can’t even buy a coffee without finding her face on a magazine stand, so it’s no wonder she’s launching her first fashion line in secret. With it debuting at New York Fashion Week in just under a month, extra time in the spotlight is the last thing she needs.

The son of the best quarterback the league has ever seen, filling legendary shoes as the L.A. Vipers’ quarterback was inevitable for Corey Jackson. So was meeting Leah Veronica—the first girl to hand him his ass without putting a hair out of place.

Getting the handsome, prickly blonde into his bed becomes his number one goal. But getting the sexy, over-confident footballer the hell away from her becomes Leah’s—at least until she realizes the best way to do that is to give him what he wants.

If only it was that simple.

When Corey discovers who she is, and private photos of Hollywood’s finest find their way online, everything they thought they knew is thrown into disarray.

And when secrets are exposed and hearts are shattered, they have to figure out if they’ve been blindsided by love or reality, and if it’s worth running the extra yard to win the game they never meant to play.

sidelined new finalThree people. Three motives. Three reasons.

When the game leaves the field in the second book in the USA Today bestselling BY HIS GAME series and mixes with sex, lies, and betrayal, the future isn’t the only thing on the line…

Macey Kelly has sworn off men. Unless they’re going to zip in and out of her apartment—and her vagina—quicker than they can give her an orgasm, she’s not interested. Finding out her boyfriend of three years got her cousin pregnant was a total confidence knock. Luckily for Macey, confidence is

something she has in abundance, so all Mitch’s asshole move did was make her pretty cynical toward men.
The last thing Jack Carr needs at the start of the season is for a dark-haired, sexy as sin, gyspyesque beauty to be consuming his thoughts. Football is his life, which leaves no time for girls. Unless they’re the love ‘em and leave ‘em girls. Becoming one of the best running backs the league has ever seen by racking up the yards is his top priority… not bedding Macey Kelly, despite her affinity for blow jobs and total sexual abandon.

Avoiding each other is the perfect solution, but when your best friends are in a serious living together kind of relationship, that isn’t always an option. Sometimes, sex on tap is the easiest option. And the sweetest.

Until Mitch shows up with a bombshell that could shatter Macey’s perfectly carved out life. It’s been a year, but he isn’t giving her up, not now he has a chance at winning her back. And he knows her buttons. Every single one of them.

Unfortunately for him, Jack Carr isn’t a loser. The star running back has his eye on the Vince Lombardi—and on Macey. But seeing her hanging between them both isn’t something he’s down with, not when he discovers why she’s so against anything more-ish, as she puts it.Macey quickly realizes she’s the ball being passed between two desperate yet opposing teams, and that only one of them can score the touchdown. But will the winner be the guy she lived with and loved for three years, or will the winner be the guy who understands her and makes her body come alive?

In this game, someone will be sidelined, and calling the play isn’t always as easy as it seems.

(SIDELINED is a full-length, standalone novel. It’s not necessary to read BLINDSIDED before this book, but it is advised.)

intercepted newFour people. Four goals. Four endings.

In the third and final book of the USA Today bestselling By His Game series, the rules of the game no one knew they’d have to play are blurring, and when the past becomes the opposing team, hearts aren’t the only thing at stake of being lost…
Finding naked pictures of her best friend on her boyfriend’s phone wasn’t in Everleigh White’s five year plan. Neither was moving back to Los Angeles, the city of dreams that never managed to make hers come true. There’s only so many years you can be in love with your best friend before you realize he’s never going to love you back, after all. If only her ex would stop showing up at the gym where she works, she’d be much happier.

Being a father at nineteen wasn’t how Reid North, the Vipers’ wide receiver, imagined his life going, but when his ex-girlfriend tricked him into parenthood, he accepted it. Eventually. Now, with his ex on the verge of being released from prison, he’s holding onto full custody of his seven year old son, Leo. Football and Leo have left Reid no time for dating… Until Everleigh comes back.

His best friend his whole life, Everleigh never knew Reid loved her. She left before he could tell her. Now she’s back in front of him, and he’s not letting go. Even if all he gets is her friendship again. But in a city like L.A., dreams come true when you’re least expecting it.

So do nightmares.

With their exes beating down their doors with demands and explanations, their hesitant and building relationship is threatened at every corner. They’re at serious risk of being intercepted by the past, and that’s a ball Reid is determined to catch.

Except desperation can lead to stupidity—and Reid soon realizes he can’t catch every ball, no matter how perfectly it’s thrown to him. This time a fumble could cost more than a few points.

It could cost him everything.

(INTERCEPTED is the third and final book in the By His Game series and can be read as a standalone, although it is advised to read BLINDSIDED and SIDELINED before, in this order.)

The first time I met Brody Easton was in the men’s locker room.

It was my first interview as a professional sportscaster.

The famed quarterback decided to bare all.

And by all, I don’t mean he told me any of his secrets.

No.  The arrogant ass decided to drop his towel, just as I asked the first question.  On camera.

The Super Bowl MVP quickly adopted a new hobby—screwing with me.

When I pushed back, he shifted from wanting to screw with me, to wanting to screw me.

But I don’t date players.

And it’s not because I’m one of the few women working in the world of professional football.

I’d date an athlete.

It’s the other kind of player I don’t date.

You know the type.  Good looking, strong, cocky, always looking to get laid.

Brody Easton was the ultimate player.

Every woman wanted to be the one to change him.

But the truth was, all he needed was a girl worth changing for.

Turned out, I was that girl.

Simple right?

Let’s face it.  It never is.

There’s a story between once upon a time and happily ever after…

And this one is ours.

Love to Hate You_Finalhigh Love to Hate You is LIVE!

Some connections are so powerful they will not be denied. Despite doing everything in their power to fight their feelings, Chase and Arianna decide to give their love a second chance. They hope that the long, painful journey back to each other will have taught them not to make the same mistakes again. This time they’ll get it right. All they need is a little time for the wounds to heal.
Unfortunately, life doesn’t stop just because love is in the air. Just as they begin to reconcile, their relationship is bombarded by crisis after crisis throwing their lives into a tailspin. Had they learned from their past, Chase and Arianna would find a way to lean on each other during trying times. But some people never learn.
Instead of revealing their strength, each challenge exposes their vulnerabilities. The cracks in their relationship turn into chasms as they let each other down time and time again. Hurt and betrayal overshadow the love, and they slip back into old habits. Hiding behind hatred for each other is much easier than facing the truth.
Will they find their way back to each other or will they stay trapped in the space between love and hate?

My Review

“You’ll never be alone. I’m never leaving your side again. I will be there for every emergency, every time you need a shoulder to cry on. Every time you need someone to vent to, I will be there. It’s you and me, forever. I know you feel lost, but I’m here and I’m not going anywhere.”

Wow! What can I say about this book? Well, Love to Hate You takes you on one crazy ride. I mean this book has everything! Think of the most entertaining soap opera that you have watched and it’s got nothing on this book. Love to Hate You gives you angst, drama, romance, crazy people, unexpected twists, lies and surprises around every corner. I can honestly say that there was never a dull moment and I had the hardest time putting this book down.

After the way Hate to Love You ended, I was dying and I mean dying to get my hands on this book. I had to know how things played out. Chase and Ari’s journey to HEA was definitely a difficult one. My heart really went out to the two of them. I felt like they could never catch a break. Just when things seemed like they would be ok and they got back on track, something would happen to mess things up. So, yeah, their journey was a difficult one, but I feel like everything that had to go through made them come out stronger and my opinion the rough road was totally worth it.

Love to Hate You was such an entertaining read. It was well written and captivating. I was hooked from the very first page and literally devoured this book. I just loved everything about it and couldn’t have been more happy with the outcome! Isabelle Richards has made a big fan out of me and I can’t wait to see where she will take us next!

Review: Breaking A Legend by Sarah Robinson

Perfect for fans of Katy Evans and Monica Murphy, Sarah Robinson’s blistering-hot series debut introduces the Kavanagh brothers—mixed martial arts fighters who work hard, play hard, and love with all their hearts.

As one of the big names at his family’s gym, Legends, MMA star Rory Kavanagh is used to being in the spotlight—until a gruesome leg injury knocks him out of the cage. Rory is left feeling sidelined in more ways than one, battling the inner demons that come with losing the one shot at his dreams. Then Clare walks into his life and gives him a new dream: winning her heart. There aren’t many new faces in Woodlawn these days, but this tough, beautiful stranger makes Rory want to get his life back into fighting shape.

Clare Ivers doesn’t think she’ll be able to tell anyone what really brought her to the close-knit Bronx neighborhood where she just started bartending. But her life’s on pause and her past is catching up fast, try as she might to move on—with new friends, steady work, and a chiseled alpha male trying to get her attention. Even though Rory’s more than a little intense, she can’t deny that her heart beats faster when he looks at her with those soulful silver eyes. Clare thought she was done with love, but Rory might just be man enough to show her she thought wrong.

My Review

Breaking A Legend is the debut novel for author Sarah Robinson. Breaking A Legend is told from dual points of view and follows the story of Claire and Rory. Claire wants nothing more than to forget about her past and start over. Everything is going to plan: new job, new friends, and some interest from ex-MMA fighter, Rory Kavanagh. While at first Claire tries to deny any feelings for Rory, it quickly becomes harder and harder to pretend….Rory had it all: fame, fortune and an exciting career. That is until one day, Rory gets a major injury and looses everything within a matter of minutes. Then Claire comes into his life and is like a breath of fresh air. She makes him want to fight for the life he once had. Will these two get the HEA they both want and deserve?

I really like Claire. I felt like she was a strong character, who had been through a lot and was just looking for a chance to start over. Her struggles and fears were real and easy to connect with. I adored Rory. I just wanted to give him a big hug. His life sorta went downhill after he got injured. He turned to alcohol and drugs to dull his pain. And then Claire came into his life. Claire woke up something in him that he thought was gone. She made him want to be a better man and to get back the life that he thought he lost.

Claire and Rory had some really great chemistry. Claire really brought out the alpha/possessive side in Rory. They complimented one another well and really came into each other’s lives at just the right time.

I also really loved Rory’s family. They are exactly what I think of when I think about an Irish family. They are close, in each other’s business, they give each other crap, but you can tell that they really love and care about each other.

One of the issues that I had was that I felt like the end of the story was a little bit rushed. I would have liked to have seen the book maybe be just a tad longer, so that the pacing would make more sense. Also, and this is something that I rarley have issue with; I felt like everything was wrapped up a little too neatly in the end, making it seem unrealistic. I felt every issue this couple had was wrapped up in a matter of just a few pages. Please don’t get me wrong, I like when things get wrapped up, but this just didn’t work for me.

Overall, I thought that this was an ok read. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it either. This story had a lot of good things working for it and I think this series has a ton of potential.

Release Blitz and Review: Love Burns (Caged Love #2) by Mandi Beck

It’s my name. It’s what I fight for. It’s Frankie.

I’m a fighter. Trained to always keep my cover. To anticipate, see the next hit coming. I never expected her past to come at us swinging like it has.

I’m about to take on two of the most important fights of my life. My girl and the belt. I know that I can handle it. That I’ll never stop fighting. But, what do you do when your life, your love is threatened and you can’t take the hits – she has to? You shut your eyes and fucking pray like hell that she’s strong enough, fierce enough to come out on top.

I went to war for her. Now it’s her turn.

My Review

Love Burns is the satisfying follow up to Mandi Beck’s debut novel, Love Hurts. Now, I don’t know about you, but I have been waiting on pins and needles waiting for this book to come out. Love Hurts ended on one heck of a brutal cliffhanger, that left us all gasping and wondering what would happen next. And let me tell you, Love Burns does not disappoint.

Love Burns picks up right where the last book left off. Frankie and Deacon are both seeing just how hard love can really be. Love is not easy. It’s hard and frustrating at times. At times, it takes a lot of work. But, if you love someone and I mean really love someone, you are going to have to fight. You’re going to have to put in the work and the time. Anything worth having is worth the time and effort. Yes, you will make mistakes. Yes, you will screw up. But, if it’s meant to be, then the end result is worth it. Frankie and Deacon are about to see for themselves just how true and real those statements are. They are in for the fight of their lives and will have many obstacles to overcome in their journey for HEA….

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It pulled me in from the very first page and kept me begging for more. Deacon really stepped things up in this book. Yes, he is still 100% alpha male, but he finally has seen the light and is ready to fight for what he wants. Frankie has also come a long way since we first met her in Love Hurts. Her character has grown and now that she knows what it’s like to love Deacon, she’s not going to give up on him no matter what. I felt even more connected with Deacon and Frankie this time around. They have such great push and pull. They frustrate me, but when they love, they both love so fiercely. They both made mistakes, but also learned just how important communication is.

Love Burns was one of my most anticipated duet sequels of the year and it did not disappoint. I loved everything about Deacon and Frankie’s story. The passion and love the two of them feel is intense, but so real. Their emotions so easy to get caught up in, as if they are your own. Love Burns has plenty of angst, romance, sexy times, action and suspense. The suspense will keep you on the edge of your seat just wondering how everything will work out in the end.

Love Burns where I want to be

Author Bio

Mandi Beck has been an avid reader all of her life. A deep love for books always had her jotting down little stories on napkins, notebooks, and her hand. As an adult she was further submerged into the book world through book clubs and the epicness of social media. It was then that she graduated to writing her stories on her phone and then finally on a proper computer.
A nursing student, mother to two rambunctious and somewhat rotten boys, and stepmom to two great girls away at college, she shares her time with her husband in Chicago where she was born and raised. Mandi is a diehard hockey fan and blames the Blackhawks when her deadlines are not met.
Love Hurts is her debut novel and she is currently working on the next in the series along with whatever other voices are clamoring for attention in her mind.
