Brady…
What the hell do I know about raising a baby? Nothing. Not a goddamn thing.
Yet here I am, the sole guardian of my niece. I’d be lost if it weren’t for Katherine, the beautiful girl who seems to have all the answers. Katherine, who’s slowly finding her way into my cynical heart.
I keep reminding myself that I can’t fall for someone when we don’t have a future. But telling myself this lie and believing it are two different things.
Katherine…
When Brady shows up on a Harley, looking like an avenging angel—six feet, three inches of chiseled muscle, eyes the color of wild sage, and sun-kissed skin emblazoned with tattoos—I’m not sure if I should fall at his feet or run like hell. Because if I tell him what happened the night his family died, he might hate me.
What I don’t count on are the nights we spend together trying to forget the heartache that brought us here. I promise him it won’t mean anything, that I won’t fall in love.
I shouldn’t make promises I can’t keep.
Shameless is an adult contemporary romance/spinoff featuring a character from The Dearest Series, but it can be read as a complete standalone.
My Review
“I want to tell him that I changed my mind about our arrangement. I want to tell him I want more. That I want us to be together. That I want him to stay. But, I don’t because I promised. No expectations. No demands. And I’ll keep that promise. Even if it ends up breaking my heart.”
I don’t know about you guys, but I have been dying, I mean dying for a new book from Lex Martin. I have been a fan of hers ever since I read Dearest Clementine. And with each book of hers that I read, the more I fall in love with her writing. And let me tell you, Shameless does not disappoint.
Shameless starts off with one heck of bang. Your heart is literally broken within just the first few chapters. Brady’s whole entire world gets turned upside down with the death of his brother and sister-in-law. Not only will Brady be faced with many personal regrets, but he will suddenly find himself in charge of his brother’s one year old daughter. And Brady knows absolutely nothing about kids. Even so, when he meets Isabella for the first time, he knows that he will do anything to protect this little girl. Luckily, he has Katherine on his side. You see, Katherine was his sister-in-law’s best friend and if it wasn’t for Katherine, he would be lost. And before Brady even realizes it, Katherine is burrowing her way into his heart. Even though his feelings for Katherine are strong, he fights his feelings. He’s afraid to start something when his future is so uncertain….
Shameless was everything I could have wanted in a Lex Martin read. Told from dual points of view, be ready to be taken on an roller-coaster ride of emotions. This story is well-written. It’s heart-breaking. You are sucked into the story from the very first page. Your emotions will be all over the place as you go through this journey with Katherine and Brady. This book will make you laugh. It will make you cry. It will frustrate you and make you want to scream! It will pull at your heart. It will have you believing in hope and rooting for love. Like I said, your emotions will be all of the place.
I absolutely loved the characters. They were very easy to relate to and connect with. When you see Katherine and Brady together, you know that you are going to be in for a real treat. The chemistry between these two is undeniable. It’s impossible to not root for these two.
Lex Martin has done an amazing job with Shameless. This story has just the right amount of angst, drama, heartache and romance. I was taken on one incredible journey and I loved every second of it. I can’t wait to see where Lex Martin will take my heart next!
