This week I’m going to start reading The Bronze Horseman (The Bronze Horseman #1) by Paullina Simons. It’s the first book in The Bronze Horseman Trilogy. Charmaine is the history buff out of the two of us, so I’m not sure how this is going to go for me. I’ll be starting with the first book and seeing I feel about it when I’m finished before committing to the second book in the series. I have come back to this book time and time again but the “historical romance” tag kept putting me off. We were having dessert last night (cheesecake – delish) and I told Charm I was going to read it and this was her reaction “Historical fiction? Really?!” – Said with raised eyebrows even. I understand her reaction – I’d be that way if she announced she was going to read a New Adult novel! But it’s not that I didn’t think I would l enjoy it, I just thought I would probably enjoy something else more. So many books, so little time! HOWEVER, I have seen it mentioned recently that it’s not particularly heavy on the historical stuff so that’s why I have decided to give this a go. I’m really looking forward to reading it now that I have committed. Here’s hoping that I love it as much as every other reader in the world (so it seems). Thoughts? I would love to hear from you if you have read it! And if you haven’t read it then here’s the blurb –
The Bronze Horseman (The Bronze Horseman #1) by Paullina Simons
The golden skies, the translucent twilight, the white nights, all hold the promise of youth, of love, of eternal renewal. The war has not yet touched this city of fallen grandeur, or the lives of two sisters, Tatiana and Dasha Metanova, who share a single room in a cramped apartment with their brother and parents. Their world is turned upside down when Hitler’s armies attack Russia and begin their unstoppable blitz to Leningrad.
Yet there is light in the darkness. Tatiana meets Alexander, a brave young officer in the Red Army. Strong and self-confident, yet guarding a mysterious and troubled past, he is drawn to Tatiana–and she to him. Starvation, desperation, and fear soon grip their city during the terrible winter of the merciless German siege. Tatiana and Alexander’s impossible love threatens to tear the Metanova family apart and expose the dangerous secret Alexander so carefully protects–a secret as devastating as the war itself–as the lovers are swept up in the brutal tides that will change the world and their lives forever.
