Review: The Fiction of Forever by Brinda Berry

Posted on

He’s got a second chance at the one who got away—but it’s on national television, and she’s calling the shots.

Kiley Vanderbilt wasn’t just fuel for Gunner’s teenage dreams about the curvy pageant queen. She was the one who got away.

Until now.

When Gunner returns to Nashville, his high school fantasy in heels challenges him to accept a spot on the dating reality show Forever.

And although the challenger happens to be show hostess Kiley, he’s going to prove once and for all that she wants more. One white-hot kitchen encounter isn’t nearly enough to quench his thirst.

But when Kiley—untouchable, jeans-tightening Kiley—proclaims she’s unwilling to compromise the show’s integrity, he vows to throw a twist of his own into her behind-the-scenes plotting.

That’s going way, way off Kiley’s script.

Giving in to Gunner would torpedo her plans to prove to her manipulating ex-fiancé and her producer daddy that she has more on her shoulders than pancake and hairspray. She must make him play by her rules on camera in spite of his sexy whispers behind the scenes.

Especially when a social media shitstorm brews on the horizon.

Fourteen days of filming. Six camera crews. And a minefield of hidden cameras. This time, no one’s getting away.

My Review

“We’ve both chosen to play a silly game of matchmaking for money or fame or whatever reason, and I don’t want to play anymore. Because my heart can’t understand why he feels so right when others felt so wrong.”

The Fiction of Forever is a really great second chance romance. Told from dual points of view, The Fiction of Forever follows the story of Gunner and Kiley. Gunner has had a thing for Kiley for as long as he can remember. The two of them shared a magical night together, but were torn away by a big misunderstanding. And for Gunner, Kiley will always be the one that got away. It will be many years before these two are reunited….On the outside, Kiley appears to have everything she could want: money, a handsome fiancee’ and an upcoming wedding. But, Kiley wants more for herself. She doesn’t want to settle down and be a good little housewife. She wants to work and make a name for herself. So, when an opportunity to be a matchmaker on her father’s show comes up, she can’t turn it down. She was born to do this. Too bad her fiancee’ doesn’t agree. When things fall apart, the last thing she expected was for Gunner to be back in her life. Gunner knows that Kiley is the one for him and he isn’t about to let her walk out of his life again. However, this second chance isn’t going to come easy. Somehow, Gunner has found himself as the bachelor on Kiley’s show. Will Gunner be able to make Kiley open her eyes and see what’s always been there between the two of them? Or will Kiley end up finding Gunner his true match and lose him forever? You’ll just have to read to find out.

I have to say, I really enjoyed The Fiction of Forever. The Fiction of Forever is the second book in the Stand By Me series, but can totally be read as a stand-alone. I thought that this book was well written and very entertaining. It pulled me in from the very first page and I devoured it in just a few hours. This book made me laugh. I loved the chemistry between Gunner and Kiley. I thought they had really great push and pull. I couldn’t wait for the two of them to find their way together. Overall, this book was just a really enjoyable read. It had some drama, but nothing over the top. And it had just the right mix of love and romance. And you can’t go wrong with the dating game angle. Nothing makes you realize what you want, than almost loosing it!!

This is my first book by this author, and I have to say it won’t be my last. I’m really looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.

My Review

“I know this isn’t easy, but I’m going to keep reminding you what you are to me, and who you have always been. You are my everything; no one could mean to me what you do. As long as we live I’ll remind you that loving you is as effortless for me as breathing.”

Ever since I finished Skyscrapers & Camelot, I have been dying to get my hands on this book. I had to see what would happen next for Aimee and Keegan. And I have to tell you, Mindy A. Carter does not disappoint!

Restoration & Forgiveness picks up right where the last book left off. Aimee returned home after finding out that her father was hospitalized. Even though she knew Keegan would show, she still didn’t want him there. He hurt her so badly, but this time Keegan was determined to not let Aimee get away. He had to own up to his mistakes and make Aimee see that the love that they had was real and worth fighting for.

From the moment, I picked up this book, I was quickly reminded just how much I loved these two characters. Their story immediately sucking me back in. I was totally lost in Aimee and Keegan’s story and finished it in just one short sitting. Aimee and Keegan’s story really tugged at my heart. Their journey to HEA, was not an easy one. It was one that was filled with a lot of hurt and angst. But, you couldn’t help but find yourself rooting for the two of them and hoping that they could move past all the hurt and pain. I loved how determined Keegan was and how he refused to give up on Aimee. You could tell that he really loved her and that he honestly made some dumb mistakes. And Aimee, I gotta tell you, this character had the biggest heart. She was a lot stronger than I gave her credit for and lets just say, she really blew me away by the end of this story.

Restoration & Forgiveness was such an enjoyable read. It is a great follow up to Skyscrapers & Camelot and the perfect second chance romance. There really is so much to love about this story; from the characters to the plot, to the angst and romance, to the heartbreaking moments and the oh so sweet swoon-worthy moments. This book had it all for me. Mindy A. Carter is a new and upcoming author and is definitely one to watch out for. I for one can not wait to see where she will take me next!

When I wake in the morning there is no confusion about where I am or who I am cuddled up with. I knew the moment he whispered in my ears last night that I would wake up in his arms.

Keegan’s grip on me is tight, like he’s afraid that I’ll try to escape. The rise and fall of his chest against me is soothing. As I lie awake, I recall the events of last night. His sweet words were my downfall. You would think that since I am sure of his feelings, we could continue our fairy tale. I wish it were that easy, but it’s not. Do we need more time? Is this time we have here together enough for me to forgive him? This is why I need girlfriends, ones I can run to when I need advice, girls I trust. There’s Reese, but hello, she’s practically part of the James family now. A fact that is still so surreal to me.

Keegan is waking up. His breathing isn’t as deep any longer, and his body is suddenly stiff, as if he’s afraid to move and wake me.

He nuzzles my neck and sighs. His grip on me tightens, and I consider pretending I’m asleep just to see how this whole spooning-and-the-morning–after thing plays out. Unfortunately, someone else is awake as well.

“Morning, Dad.”

“Morning, Rick.” Keegan follows my greeting.

My father is staring down at us, and I’m reminded of the times he caught Keegan in my room when we were younger. He’s trying to be bothered by our sleeping arrangement, but he isn’t really.

“You know, there are perfectly comfortable beds upstairs for both of you to sleep in separately.” He emphasizes the separate part. He walks out of the room, and we both let out the laughter we have been holding in.

“I hope you slept comfortably,” Keegan says.

Surprisingly, I don’t even remember being uncomfortable, or waking. Which proves the kind of effect his touch has on me. It’s like a drug; if they could bottle it up I’d be addicted.

“Actually, I was in someone’s death grip all night.” I smile.

“I didn’t hurt you, did I?” I can hear the concern in his voice.

“Of course not, I’m just kidding.” I almost make the mistake of telling him it felt nice, and beg him to not let go. Thankfully my brain takes over, and I don’t.

I sit up and put both my feet on the floor. I smile at him, noticing that he hasn’t shaved in a couple days. I’ve never seen him with stubble before, and I have to look away, imagining what it would feel like across my skin.

“I’m going to start coffee and make breakfast,” I tell him as I remove myself from our cozy shelter. We both know that last night’s sleeping arrangements aren’t permanent. No matter how good it felt to be in his arms.

Review: Appealed (The Legal Briefs #3) by Emma Chase

The New York Times bestselling author of the Tangled books returns with the third romance in the Legal Briefs series, a collection of sexy novels about first crushes, second chances, and the final verdict of the heart.

When Brent Mason looks at Kennedy Randolph, he doesn’t see the awkward, sweet girl who grew up next door. He sees a self-assured, stunning woman…who wants to crush the most intimate—and prized—parts of his anatomy beneath the heels of her Louboutins.

When Kennedy looks at Brent, all she sees is the selfish, Abercrombie & Fitch catalogue–worthy teenager who humiliated her in high school in order to join the popular crowd. A crowd that made those years a living hell for her.

But she’s not a lovesick social outcast anymore—she’s a Washington, DC, prosecutor with a long winning streak. Brent is the opposing attorney in her next case, and Kennedy thinks it’s time to put him through a little hell of his own.

But things aren’t exactly working out the way she planned. Brent has his sights set on Kennedy, and every fiery exchange only makes him want her more—and makes her wonder if he’s as passionate in the bedroom as he is in the courtroom. In the end, they may just find themselves in love…or in contempt of court.

My Review

“I want to figure her out, to learn every part of her–the soft curves, the sharp edges, the dark, shadowy corners she tries so hard to hide. I want to break down her doors, climb her ivory tower. I want to slay all her ducking dragons. She probably won’t appreciate it at first–but eventually she’ll come around. It’ll be great.”

Appealed is the third book in the Legal Briefs series, and while it can be read as a stand-alone, I do recommend that you check out the other books in this series for full enjoyment.

One the things that I loved the most about this book, was that it was all from Brent’s point of view. I loved getting to be inside Brent’s head, and let me tell you, his head was quiet a mess. Brent was one of those guys who loved living the single life and never really had his sights set on settling down…that is until Kennedy comes back into the picture. Kennedy was the one. The girl he always wanted, but thought broke his heart. Only, Kennedy is nothing like the girl he remembers. Kennedy is all grown up and wants to make Brent’s life a living hell. Sounds easy enough right? Kennedy however, was no way prepared for the connection and chemistry that she and Brent would have. The more time these two spend together, the harder it is to fight what fate is throwing at them. Will Brent and Kennedy be able to move on from the past? What will happen when the two of them can no longer fight the fire that is growing between the two of them? You’ll just have to read to find out!

Appealed was a quick and easy read for me. It is an exciting story about first love and a second chance at romance with a little court drama thrown in between. I was pulled into Brent and Kennedy’s story from the very beginning and devoured this book in one sitting. I couldn’t get enough of Brent and Kennedy together. I loved the chemistry and connection that they shared. Their banter was incredible. They both gave just as good as they got and I couldn’t wait to hear what they would say next. Their story was smart, sexy, hilarious at times and overall, just really entertaining. There is just so much to love about this book and it is definitely my favorite in this series.

Emma Chase has given me one incredible read. I’ve followed the Legal Brief Series from the very beginning and with each book, I have fallen more in love with the characters and this series. If you’ve been thinking about checking out this series, I highly recommend it. You will not be disappointed. What you will get is an entertaining story-line with fun characters, a little drama and a lot of sexy good romance!

My Review

“You’ve distorted my world, made me view things differently. You made me want things I’ve never thought about before. Made me think about a future. But I can’t promise I won’t mess up, and I can’t promise you a happy ending.”

Beautiful Storm was a quick, but captivating read for me. From the moment I picked this book up, I couldn’t put it down. My heart ached for everything that Lizzie was going through. I wanted to know more about her. The deeper I went into her story, the more desperate I became. Lizzie meeting Noah, was the best thing that could have happened to her. She was just supposed to just interview Noah. She never imagined the path their lives would take them on….You see, Noah and Lizzie shared a connection. One that was instant and one that fate would not let them deny. So, the two of them decide that they will spend one night together. That’s all it was ever supposed to be. But, one night would never be enough for Noah and Lizzie. Lizzie craved the escape that Noah gave her. He opened her eyes and unknowingly showed her what could be. So, somewhere along the way, Lizzie and Noah became more. Only, there was one big problem standing in their way. See, Lizzie was involved in a terrible relationship with a guy named Mac.She wanted to get out, but was afraid. When Lizzie finally realizes that she wants more with Noah, she tries to end things with Mac. She had no way of knowing that when she went to end things with Mac, her life would be forever changed. To protect her life and her love, Lizzie will make the biggest decision she’s ever been faced with…..Now, almost three years later, Lizzie has returned. She’s got a lot of explaining to do, but she’s come to fight for the man that captured her heart so many years ago….

Beautiful Storm was an beautiful, yet intense read. It pulled me in from the very first page and would not let me put it down. I was so lost in Lizzie and Noah’s story. Their path to HEA was not an easy one. They both had a lot of hurt and misunderstandings to overcome. But, the love these two shared was so real, so deep, that you could tell they could get past just about anything. It was impossible to not find yourself rooting for these two. I loved every second of their complicated story and couldn’t wait to see how things would turn out and their story did not disappoint. It was filled with lots of angst, romance, drama, sexy times and some really exciting twists. There was never a dull moment. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to checking out more from this author in the future.

I grab my drink and make my way around to the other side of the dance floor. The fight to get there becomes worth it when I find Lizzie still where I spotted her. She’s leant on the railing, which surrounds the dance floor, and her face is turned away from me. Most people would think she’s watching the dancing, but her chin’s tilted slightly upwards. I follow what I think is her line of sight to find nothing but darkness. Shame I can’t observe her from the front, but I’d guess she’s wearing a thousand-yard stare.I move in close to her, resting my forearms on the railing, which brings me down to her level. No movement comes from her. She has no idea anyone is next to her at all. Not wanting to scare her, I nudge her with my thigh. Startled, she stands up straighter and turns at the same time, almost losing her footing. Instinctively, I reach out to save her. She stands still, her chest heaving, and slowly lifts her head. The heat in my body increases with every millisecond it takes her to reach my face.

“I didn’t mean to scare you.”

For a second, the strobe lights graze her face, revealing a pink tinge to her cheeks.“It’s okay…I’m sorry about earlier.” Her gaze won’t meet mine so I let her wrists go, even though my fingers itch at the loss of contact.
I’m sick of the woman spending more time looking at the floor than at me. I want, no, I need her to look at me. Crooking I crook my forefinger under her chin, and I raise it up so she has no choice. “You’ve got nothing to be sorry for. We danced. I wanted to kiss you. You didn’t want it.” I let her chin go and shrug my shoulders like I’m not bothered by it, when, if I’m honest, it fucking meant something to me. “No big deal.”

“No. You’re wrong.” Her voice is timid, and hard to hear above the music.

“What do you mean?”

Her gaze flicks south again, and I’ve had about enough. I’m envious of the fucking floor. The thought registers and then I dismiss it.
She seems to bolster herself like she did in our interview. Her shoulders square back, her chest rises with a deep inhale, and then she raises her eyes and her gaze meets mine.
She looks me square in the eye. “I wanted it.” No hesitation. No looking at the floor this time. I’m fucked.
I edge in closer to her, not wanting her to run away again. But I need my mouth on hers, or I’m going to explode.
Her body grazes against mine and my arms instinctively wrap around her, pulling her against me. I know she can feel me when her hips tilt and press in harder. The constant noise from the club fades away, no longer the focus of my attention. I hear nothing but her and her stuttered breaths.
“Now?” I’m asking again. It may be the worst thing I’ve ever done, but I need confirmation from her this is what she wants.
Her eyelids flutter shut and when she opens them, there’s an electric storm in her eyes. Still, I wait, desperate for an answer but unwilling to push for one. I get what I’ve been waiting for. She nods her head , all the while keeping eye contact with me.

I lower my head and she pushes up onto her tiptoes, her mouth hovering over mine. Our breaths are rapid. One hand releases her waist and instead cradles her nape. Unable to wait any longer, I dip down the last inch. I give a gentle tug on her bottom lip and feel her smile against me. She nips mine back and her tongue runs the seam of my lips, they part for her, and swollen lips cover my own.

Terrified of consuming her, I let her take the lead. Our lips join, her tongue flicks into my mouth, dancing with mine in hesitant lashes. The sweet taste of mint mixed with rum dances across my taste buds and I groan into her mouth. Her hands fist into my shirt, demanding more. My heart pounds fierce in my chest and I’m lost in the sensation, in her. Her fingers grasp onto my hair and I lose control, pulling her back a few feet into a dark spot and up against the wall. Lips bruise, teeth clash, and one hand digs into her hips, rocking her against my cock. The other runs the length of her side, grazing my thumb across the soft swell of her tit.
Her leg hitches around my thigh, the motion lifting her dress, revealing more flesh. It’s like a magnet for my hand, as it lets her hip go and wanders down onto the newly exposed skin. All the while, our lips and tongues are entwined. I can’t get enough. I need more. Much more.
Not yet. Not here.
I pull away, utterly breathless, and rest my forehead against hers. Our breaths pant in unison. “Come home with me?”

About The Author

Megan Isaacs lives happily in the UK with her husband and son.
If you asked her about herself she would say she’s completely crackers. Always the introvert with an extrovert exterior. A complete mash up of improbabilities.
She loves her family, but that goes without saying. She loves reading and tea. Lots and lots of tea. She used to be pretty good shot with a shotgun, but hasn’t shot since she was five months pregnant when she beat her husband for the one and only time. Hanging up her barrels seemed like a good idea after that.

Review: Wicked Reunion (Wicked White #2) by Michelle A. Valentine

College sweethearts London Uphill and Jared Kraft were inseparable. He was a rising baseball star with a promising future, and she seemed destined to become “Mrs. Kraft.” Then a tragic night and a series of devastating mistakes caused Jared to walk away from his life, leaving London without any explanation and tearing the couple apart.

Five years later, Jared has reinvented himself by putting down the bat and picking up a guitar to play for the red-hot band Wicked White. In all that time, London hasn’t gotten over her forever love—or the pain—despite seeking solace in the arms of the one man no one dreamed she’d run to.

When Wicked White’s lead singer goes MIA, Jared finds the time—and courage—to return to his hometown and face the mess he made. He’s shocked at how London’s life has changed, yet he’s determined to prove their love is worth fighting for. Is this breakup too big for any hope of a reunion tour? Or can London open her heart to Jared once again?

My Review

When I heard about Wicked Reunion, I was super excited to read it. I loved Wicked White, so I was really stoked to be back in this rock-n-roll world. Wicked Reunion is told from dual points of view and follows the story of Jared and London. Jared and London had an amazing relationship. They had been together for years; through thick and thin. Nothing could break these two apart, or so they thought. When tragedy strikes, Jared’s life will spin out of control. He will make some big decisions that he will soon regret….London was devastated when Jared broke her heart. For years, she held onto hope that he would come back to  her. However, with each year that passed, she quickly realized that she needed to try to move on. And boy did she try. She tried so hard to move on and find happiness, but Jared was always on her mind. When the lead singer for Wicked White goes MIA, Jared finds himself returning home. However, he’s not prepared for how much life has changed without him. Will Jared be able to salvage the life he once knew or has too much time gone by to repair the damage that he caused??

Wicked Reunion was a quick and easy read for me. I am a huge fan of Second Chance Romances and I was really intrigued by Jared and London’s story. I enjoyed London’s character. I felt awful for the way things went down with her and Jared. I really wanted things to be better for her and I wanted her to find some happiness after all that happened.

I did have a few problems with Wicked Reunion. I felt like a lot of the story was rushed. Yes, it is a novella, so I do expect things to be fast paced, but I would have liked to have seen a little more development of Jared and London’s relationship. I felt like things progressed way too quickly for them. I didn’t like how quickly London forgave Jared. I mean, I don’t know about you guys, but if someone I’m desperately in love with destroys me and I’ve been pinning over him for a few years, I’m going to want this guy to grovel and prove himself worthy of me. I also didn’t like who London chose to move on with. I feel like there would have been a lot of conflict with her choice and that once again, there would be no way that Jared would accept that and if London really loved Jared the way that she claimed, there is no way she could try to move on with the person that she did.

Overall, Wicked Reunion was just an ok read. I think it had a ton of potential, but sadly, it missed the mark for me. I really wanted more from this story and these characters. There was so much that I didn’t agree with and wish that it would have been handled a lot differently. I honestly think that this is going to one of those stories that you’re either going to love or going to hate. And while it wasn’t a big hit for me, I’m still glad I checked this story out.

Review: True Love (Songbird #5) by Melissa Pearl

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000446_00063]

One night can change everything…

Nessa Sloan has been in love with Jimmy Baker since the ninth grade when they started up a rock band together. Five years later they’re about to hit the big time—Chaos wins a recording contract and nation-wide tour with Torrence Records. After their celebration party, the two best friends have a one-night stand that will tear their relationship apart.

On the run from Jimmy’s rejection, Nessa takes off on her motorbike, but an accident brings her escape to a tragic end. Now trapped in a broken body, Nessa has to face a future stripped of the one thing that’s gotten her through every past challenge—playing the drums.

Jimmy never meant to break his best friend’s heart, and he will forever regret taking her to bed then treating her like one of his groupies. But once he’d crossed that line, he couldn’t go back. Now Jimmy is on a mission to do something he’s never done before—win a girl over.

Angry and confused by her new disability, Nessa doesn’t want Jimmy’s help. But she has nobody else to rely on…and his pigheaded ass won’t leave her alone. Can these two stubborn hearts get past their own insecurities to figure out what true love really looks like? Or will they drive each other crazy before they finally see the truth?

It’s infuriating, irresistible, and all-consuming…it’s true love.

My Review

“The lyrics for “I Miss You” soaked into me, leaving me hollow. I wanted her back. Chaos was nothing without her. I was nothing without her”

True Love follows the story of Nessa and Jimmy. Nessa has been in love with Jimmy for five long years, but Jimmy has never treated her like more than a friend. However, on the night that Chaos wins a recording contract, everything changes. Jimmy and Nessa cross a line that will never be able to be uncrossed. The next morning, Jimmy of course freaks out and makes the worst decision possible. He’s letting the fear of becoming like his father, ruin the best thing that’s ever happened to him….Nessa was destroyed by Jimmy’s rejection, so she did what she does best; she ran. However, while Nessa was on the run, she never imagined the course her life was about to take. You see, Nessa was involved in a motorcycle accident and for a musician, this accident was life changing. Now, Nessa will have to figure out how to live her new life and will have to count on the one person she hates. Jimmy is devastated and terrified that he lost Nessa. While this accident sucks, Jimmy hopes that this will be his change to show Nessa that he messed up, that he was wrong and that he is worthy of her. Will Nessa be able to forgive Jimmy for all the pain that he’s caused???

True Love is the 5th book in the Songbird Series, but can totally be read as a stand-alone. This is my first book by this author and I’m sure it will not be my last. Songbird was a quick and easy read for me. I found the story-line to be captivating. I connected with the characters right away. I loved the push and pull between Nessa and Jimmy. Yes, Jimmy did some really stupid things. There were so many times that I wished I could just jump into my kindle and slap him across his face for his stupidity. But, Jimmy was a young guy and while I don’t agree with his behavior, I do understand to an extent, why he did the things that he did. I felt that he did redeem himself later on in the story and he did prove to have some swoon-worthy moments. Nessa, I adored her. She went through so, so much. I can’t even imagine how she must of felt; first with the rejection from Jimmy, but then her accident. I was really pleased with how much her character grew by the end of the story.

Overall, I found this book to be quiet enjoyable. I thought it was a great second chance romance.  True Love had a good mix of angst and romance and drama. I liked that the story was told from dual points of view. I thought the characters were great and easy to connect with. I am curious about the other books in this series and wouldn’t mind going back and getting caught up on the other characters stories.

She can forgive, but can she forget?
Some days, Everly still thinks she sees him. In the food court at the mall, or in a car speeding past as the light changes. It only lasts a second, but when it happens, she slips back to a time when she was ruled-and nearly ruined-by August Kincaid. And it doesn’t matter that she’s moved on, that she’s about to marry another man. In those moments the only thing she can do to regain control is take a deep breath and remind herself that August can’t hurt her-because he’s in a coma. Except that he’s not anymore.

August is awake. With no memories, he sets out to solve the mystery of his lost life. He unearths a photograph of a beautiful redhead named Everly and knows instinctively that she’s the key. But when he finds her, the August she describes is more monster than man.

Tortured by the thought of having hurt her, August wants only to become the man Everly deserves. As the new August emerges, Everly glimpses the person she first fell in love with. But can she trust that this August is real? When the final secret of their shared past is revealed, one of them will make a choice that changes their future forever . . .

When I ran back home, I wasn’t prepared for the reminders of him everywhere I turned. I certainly never expected Keegan to follow. I thought I made myself clear – we were through. I didn’t want anything to do with him. But, he inserted himself back into my life, and there was nothing I could do.

I pushed he pulled.

I ran and he chased me.

I cried and he wiped away the tears.

He just wouldn’t give up, and the battle my head and my heart are waging, is one I don’t want to be a part of. You see my head says be strong, but my heart is saying I belong to him, and always will.

What does one do when her heart can easily forgive, yet her head refuses to.

Can Keegan, and I restore our fairy tale, or will our story be closed for good?

“Let’s dance,” I tell Delaney.  I’m feeling pretty good and the music is loud. It’s a perfect cover to get away from him.
I grab Delaney’s hand and drag her to the dance floor.  I don’t look back, letting the music and alcohol course through my body as I move my hips with the beat.
After a while, I head to the bathroom, needing a break from the sweaty dance floor. Delaney heads back to the bar to get us more drinks, which I’m sure I don’t need since I already feel like I’m having a hard time walking a straight line.  Luckily all goes well in the ladies room, and I’m able to use the facilities without help.  I giggle at what an awesome drunk I am.
I walk out with a smile on my face when suddenly someone catches my arm and turns me around, my back against a wall.  My heart speeds up and for a split second I don’t recognize who has grabbed me until I hear the low timbre of his voice.
“Are you drunk?”
I look into Keegan’s eyes while he holds both of my arms – he’s trapped me.
“Maybe a little.”
He looks angry, and for some reason my drunk self thinks the way he’s looking at me is hilarious.
“You need to be careful, anyone could take advantage of you right now, Aimee.”
“I’m not alone I’m with Delaney.” I remind him.
He tilts his head as his green eyes bore into me. “Who is also wasted.”
“Well if it weren’t for you I wouldn’t need to be here,” I shoot back.
“If it weren’t for me you would have fallen over, the way you were stumbling out of the bathroom, I’m surprised you didn’t wipe out,” he growls.
“What are you, a stalker Keegan? I don’t remember you being this creepy before, must have picked it up from your blonde banshee.”
He looks at me confused, but then I see his eyes turn from anger to regret.
I reach up to touch his cheek. “Your eyes are so blue, like the ocean. Did you know you have the most beautiful eyes on the planet?” Did I say that out loud? Oh shit!
He looks at me and then his lips curve up into that panty-dropping smile, and I know if he decided to take me here I wouldn’t protest.  My head gets all foggy when he is this close.
He must see my walls fall at that moment, because his warm lips descend on me, and I can’t help but pull him close as our lips meet. It’s an explosion of everything I’ve been feeling in the last few days – anger, passion, hurt, and wanting.  We devour each other.   My head is telling me to stop, but I can’t.  His power over me is too strong.  Everything else around us falls away. His warm hand slides under my shirt shooting a tingle down my spine that feels amazing.  I press into him trying to get closer.  When we come up for air, he places his forehead against mine.
“To the stars,” he whispers.
I pull away and I look up to him. “The stars are too far away Keegan, no on will ever reach them. Even if you could touch one they’d burn you to ash.”
He releases his hold on me and I’m free, I’m almost sober now and flee to the front of the bar and out the door. The farther away I get from Keegan, the better.  I’m this close to forgiving him, but having been drinking, I don’t trust myself.  I can’t be held responsible for my actions right now. At least that’s what I tell myself once I step outside and look up at the sky. Up to the twinkling stars, wishing just once I could touch them.
Skyscrapers & Camelot (Renovate #1)
Keegan was my world since I was six years old. When he walked out of my life, I was certain I would never see him again. He broke my heart, but truthfully I only have myself to blame. Now I’m looking into his incredibly beautiful blue eyes. He came back into my life as quickly as he left. Both of us have changed over the years, but I can’t imagine living another day without him.
My name is Aimee, and this is the story of how I lost and found my best friend and love of my life. The journey may be tough but there is no denying that Keegan, and I were destined to be together. He rescued me the day we met and had always been my prince charming. One thing I’m sure of, I’m not letting my happily ever after get away this time.

Blog Tour with Review: Ignite by Kelly Elliott

IGNITE – Release Day  – Nov 17, 2015

There were two things Emmit Lewis loved.

Racing cars and Adaline Morgan.

Time was stolen from the two young lovers and Emmit vowed never again would he allow anything to come between the two of them.

Blurred lines both on and off the track have Emmit being tested beyond his limits. Will he reach the checkered flag and ignite Adaline’s heart, or will he be black-flagged and lose everything he has ever dreamed of?

Time passing. Blue hourglass.

My Review

“It’s funny how you go off looking for what you thought was your dream…only to find out your dream was right in front of you then entire time.”

“You’re the calm before the storm inside of me, Addie. When I’m with you i feel so at peace, like nothing else in this world matters. You’re everything to me.”

“We were meant to travel the road that led us here.”

Ignite was such a fun a read for me. This is my first book by Kelly Elliott and it will not be my last. I’m totally kicking myself for not reading her books sooner!

Ignite is told from dual points of view and follows the story of Emmit and Addie. Emmit and Addie were so in love. They had the whole world ahead of them…that is until one day, Addie changed things. See Addie had dreams of her own that she wanted to pursue and she didn’t want to hold Emmit back or have him resent her. So, in thinking that she was doing best for their relationship, she suggests they take a break. This break is one of Addie’s biggest regrets. Not a day goes by that she doesn’t find herself missing Emmit. When fate brings these two back together, it’s as if no time has passed at all. They both made mistakes when they were younger. And now it’s up to them what they will do with this second chance that life has handed them….

I absolutely loved Ignite! Ignite was well-written and pulled me in from the very first page. From the moment I met Emmit and Addie, I knew they had something special. They both made mistakes and so much time had passed, but the one thing that never went away, was the love that they had for one another. And once I really got to know Emmit and Addie, I was desperate for more information. I couldn’t help but fall for these two. You could feel how much they truly loved each other and I found myself hoping and praying that they would find a way back to one another.

Ignite is a beautiful story of love and is a great second chance romance. I loved the story-line and the writing. I completely devoured this book in just under 6 hours. I could not put it down. It had the perfect balance of angst, drama, romance, frustration and sexy times. This is one of the reads that when you are finished, you can’t help but have a smile on your face! This book gave me everything I needed with a few great twists along the way!

Ignite is an exciting start to this new series by Kelly Elliott and I’m super excited to see where this series will take us next!

Opening the door, I smiled. Adaline was standing there with an umbrella over her head as the rain came down steadily. “Hey. I had to ask which one was your bus. You’ve gotten a different one.”

My smile faded some as I nodded. “Yeah, well a lot of things are different now.”

Adaline’s face fell as she asked, “May I come in?”

“Um, yeah but Robert’s here and—”

Robert pushed past me and waved to Adaline. “Hey, Adaline! Great seeing you again. I’m headed back to the hauler, Emmit. See ya later.”

Slowly shaking my head, I shot daggers at my so-called best friend.

Lola barked and Adaline let out a gasp. “Oh, my gosh. There’s a dog!”

“Always were observant, Adaline.”

Adaline shot me a dirty look as she slowly nodded. “Well anyway, I’m sorry Robert ran off. I’ll let him know he can come back.”

Adaline turned and walked off as I squeezed my eyes shut and cursed under my breath. “Fuck!” I hissed through my teeth. Stepping out into the rain, I called for her. “Adaline, wait. I’m sorry, if you want to come in, you’re more than welcome to.”

Turning around slowly, Adaline raised an eyebrow. “Anyone else in there?”

I didn’t even care I was getting wet. “Like who?” I asked with a confused look.

With a shrug, Adaline walked back over to me and started up the steps as I stepped back in and told Lola to sit. Adaline stepped into my bus and looked around as her eyes widened in surprise as she glanced back toward the bedroom. “Oh, I don’t know, Cookie maybe?”

Holy living hell. Adaline was jealous.
