Review: Fatal Identity (Fatal #10) by Marie Force

fatalidentity

Every family has its secrets…

As the first anniversary of her marriage to Vice President Nick Cappuano approaches, Lieutenant Sam Holland is dreaming of Bora Bora—sun, sand and a desperately needed break from the DC grind. But real life has a way of intervening, and Sam soon finds herself taking on one of the most perplexing cases of her career.

Government worker Josh Hamilton begs Sam to investigate his shocking claim that his parents stole him from another family thirty years ago. More complicated still, his “father” is none other than the FBI director. When a member of Josh’s family is brutally murdered, Sam begins to question how deep this cover-up goes. Is it possible the revered director was part of a baby-napping ring and that others involved are also targets?

With a killer intent on deadly revenge and her team still reeling from a devastating loss, Sam’s plate is full—and when Nick and their son, Scotty, take ill, is her dream of a tropical anniversary celebration in peril too?

My Review

“I’ve had a lot of titles in my life – Samantha, Sam, Ms Holland, Lieutenant Holland, Mrs. Cappuano, Second Lady. But only recently did I have the most important of all titles bestowed upon me – Mom.”

I am just going to keep this review short and sweet. Fatal Identity is the exciting conclusion to The Fatal Series. I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. It was so great catching up with Sam and Nick one more time. I love seeing just how far these two have come and how real their lives are.

This book provided me with everything that I was expecting and looking for. This book captivated me the entire time. I was unable to put it down. I was quickly reminded just how much and exactly why I like this series so much. It’s entertaining. It’s suspenseful. I loved having guessing and trying to figure things out. As always, there is never a dull moment. And Nick, with his alpha male ways, is impossible not to love.

Review: Twirled Bond (Holly Woods Files #5) by Emma Hart

Posted on

twirledbond

If I thought Holly Woods was crazy before, I was wrong.

Devin is finally married. Nonna’s on the wedding warpath. Drake might be getting ideas. His mom just dropped a bombshell, and Bek is caught between a hot as hell FBI agent and my super-sweet little brother.

And I still don’t have the shoe closet Drake promised me when he moved in six months ago.

At least there’s one positive: the old, abandoned Holly Woods Theater is about to reopen, and there’s nothing like a theater opening to bring people together… And make crazy grandmothers forget proposal agendas.

Until that theater comes with a dead body. A very, very, very dead body.

Chaos is coming to town.

Everything I’ve ever known about Holly Woods might just be about to change.

My Review

“It’s in my job description. Noelle Bond, private investigator extraordinaire, cupcake lover, shoe whore, and Drake Nash’s pain in the ass.”

“Droelle is like the ultimate relationship goal. If you were on Instagram, you’d even have your own hashtag and everything. Even Twitter would feature you on one of those stupid at-relationship-underscore-goals accounts.”

“I’m a lot unstable, but in all the right ways. It’s part of the reason why you love me.”

Wow. Wow. Wow. Just freakin’ wow! Twirled Bond was an amazing, and I mean fantastic addition to The Holly Woods Files Series.

Emma Hart has once again delivered a jaw-dropping and captivating read. From the moment I picked up this book, I was consumed. I devoured each and every word. Wild horses could not have stopped me from finishing this book. Twirled Bond totally delivers with the mystery and intrigue. I found myself holding my breath one moment and then laughing my ass of the next. I loved trying to once again, solve the mystery and figure out who the suspect was. Emma Hart certainly kept me on my toes with all the delicious twists and turns.

And of course, Drake and Noelle do not disappoint. Just when I think I can not possibly love these two more, Emma Hart, has to go and prove me wrong.  I love the relationship that Noelle and Drake have. Their banter is entertaining and keeps me coming back for more. I am in awe of just how far Noelle and Drake have come and how strong their relationship is. I can never seem to get enough of these two.

Twirled Bond was a fabulous read from start to finish. It was well written and entertaining. There was never a dull moment. Simply put, this book is perfection. I loved every second of it and can not wait for more. This is without a doubt my favorite book in this series to date.

Review: The Sapphire Affair (Jewel #1) by Lauren Blakely

thesapphireaffair

Bounty hunter Jake Harlowe knows how to track a criminal. So when a group of swindled shareholders hires him to trail their former CEO, Jake expects a quick trip to the Cayman Islands to close another case. Until a devastatingly beautiful woman gets in the way.

Steph Anderson is visiting the Caymans for a rock climbing and dive trip—or so she tells Jake. She’s really trying to find out whether or not her stepfather embezzled money from his company. The last thing Steph needs is the distraction of a sexy, charming man whose kisses drive her wild.

Soon, the pair discover they’re after the same target—and millions in jewels. While Jake can’t be certain Steph isn’t working for her stepfather, and Steph can’t be certain Jake isn’t after the diamonds for himself, they can agree the heat between them is intense, and neither can deny the passion for long.

But the morning after, Steph discovers that she just might have slept with the enemy, and now she’ll have to outwit him to get everything she needs…

My Review

The Sapphire Affair is an exciting, thrilling new series by author Lauren Blakely. Told from dual points of view, this story follows Steph and Jake. Bounty hunter Jake knows just how to find a criminal. He is the guy you want to help solve your problems. When his latest job lands him in the Cayman Islands, he thinks it’s just another easy job…….If only that were the case. You see, work is easy, as long as there are no distractions. And boy is Steph one major distraction….On the outside, it appears that Steph is simply on another dive trip. But, the reality is, she’s in the Cayman’s for information. The information she’s seeking has the power to change many things. The last thing she planned on was the handsome Jake as a distraction. The sparks between these two are intense and soon enough, they will find out they are both after the same thing. There’s a lot at stake. Agendas will be called into question. Knowing who you can trust has never been more important.

The Sapphire Affair was a quick and easy read for me. I found the story-line to be intriguing and really refreshing. I was pulled in to the story from the very beginning. From the moment I met Jake and Steph, I could feel the sparks between the two of them. Their banter was so entertaining. I just loved watching the two of them together. They kept me on my toes, waiting to see just how things would play out.

The Sapphire Affair is the first book in the Jewel Series, and I have to tell you, I am really excited for this series. I mean, this book has it all. It’s intriguing. It will keep you on your toes. This book is sexy with lots of good, steamy moments. I loved the mystery and loved trying to figure out who to trust and what angle everyone was playing. Most of all, I just thought this book was a really fun read that will have you begging for more. My only complaint is that the book is over!! I can not wait to get my hands on book 2 and see the conclusion of Jake and Steph’s story!

Review: Into The Nothing by B.T. Urruela

IntoTheNothing

Xander Evans has been on the road for many years. Never settling. Always moving from one place to another, unable to let go of his past. He lived a tragic childhood, spending most of those years in foster care. He’s never felt like he’s had a home. That is until he stops in the small town of Truman Valley, Missouri, where he meets a woman who will change everything he’s ever known.

Paige Watson has it all. A loving family, beautiful home, and a great career. The only thing she’s missing….is love. After escaping an abusive relationship, she opens her heart up to a stranger. He is unlike any man she’s ever met. He came into her life and turned it completely upside down. Everything is perfect. That is, until one fateful night.

A night that would tear the Watson family apart, never to be put back together again.

A night that would send Xander away to prison for life.

**Before I begin my review, I would just like to note that I did in fact beta read this book for this author. My review is of my thoughts and feelings during the entire process**

My Review

“Family is foreign to me. Always has been. When I get a glimpse of it, it’s hard to let go. “

“The first few notes themselves have me in a trance. They’re beautiful and heartbreaking and moving all rolled into one. He transitions from to string to string and strums with the ease and fluidity of a pro, and it’s only a matter of seconds before my hands fall to my sides.”

“I was as lost in the music as he was. The beauty in his voice, the depth of his words, it overwhelms me. He overwhelms me.”

Into the Nothing is the debut solo novel of author B.T. Urruela. My first thoughts upon finishing this book was what did I just read? I was floored. I was shocked. This book took me on one wild and crazy ride with an ending I did not see coming.

Into the Nothing is well written and grabs you from the very beginning. You will have your eyes glued to the pages to find out what will happen next. As you go deeper into the story, you won’t be able to put it down.

One of the things I loved about Into the Nothing is that the story is not as romance focused. Into the Nothing is more character and plot driven. The reader is really given a chance to get to know the characters and experience the story as if they are standing in the book right along with them. I also really liked how B.T. really focused on the family aspect and the overall way he wrote Paige’s family. Her family was written in a way that made them easy to connect with and made them feel like real people and not just characters in a story. And of course, I can’t forget about Brandi. She made me laugh so many times. Everyone and I mean everyone needs a Brandi in their life. She is not only a terrific friend, but I loved how she always told you just how things were and how she wasn’t afraid to speak her mind.

Now, you might be wondering, is there romance? Yes, there is some. But, it’s more of a slow burning romance, instead of an in your face romance. And if you know me, you know that I love my romance. That being said, with this story, the slow burn worked well. You really got to see Paige and Xander get to know one another and be friends, before jumping into something more. And even though Paige and Xander’s romantic relationship was a slow burn, I am happy to tell you that there are some steamy, sexy moments.

Into the Nothing is such an exciting read. I found it refreshing and loved that it is not a traditional love story. It’s a story that will have you laughing your ass off one minute and glued to the pages the next. It is a story that is filled with mystery and intrigue. It will have you on the edge of your seat, trying to put all the pieces of the puzzle together. And just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, another twist will be thrown in and it will completely blow you away.

B.T. Urruela took a lot of risks with Into the Nothing and I could not be more pleased with the way things turned out. I am so pleased that B.T. took a chance and wrote the book that he wanted to write. He gave us a story that isn’t a traditional love story and doesn’t have the perfect cookie cutter ending. But, the ending he gave us, not only gave us hope, but left us begging for more.

“He was over here for like five hours last night drinking and talking with Dad. You think I like him? My dad’s in love. And the way he didn’t hesitate to put Benji in his place, I just think Dad’s got a good feeling about him.”
“Shit, I’ve got a good feeling about him too… and it’s in my panties.” She laughs and motions toward her crotch. “If I had been working and saw him do that to Benji’s fat ass, I would’ve let him fuck me right on top of the bar…and I would’ve let everyone watch.”
“Brandi!”
“I’m serious. Fuck it!”
“You’re ridiculous.”
“Paige, don’t tell me you didn’t notice that anaconda stuffed into his jeans?”
What?! What the fuck are you talking about? Anaconda? I wasn’t looking at his damn jeans.” I laugh, finding it hard to not to love this girl who has become like a sister to me. She’s the craziest bitch I know, but she’s got my back no matter what. She’s had it since day one.
“Why wouldn’t you look at his jeans? That’s where his dick is!”

Excerpt:

Reeve smirked—he loved it when I begged—but he didn’t take me where I wanted to go. Instead, with his fingers pinching my chin, he twisted my face so that my cheek pressed against the glass.

“Look,” he said in reverence.

The mirror ran the whole wall behind me then wrapped around the vanity so, facing this direction, I could see our reflections in the glass, half eclipsed by steam from the shower. He let go of me long enough to wipe the fog then resumed his grip on my jaw. I stared, transfixed by the sight of his cock driving into me over and over.

With my focus where he wanted it, Reeve rearranged my legs, bringing one foot up to brace on the counter and propping the other in the sink. Now I was angled so that my cunt could better be seen in the mirror. It was naughty and erotic and I couldn’t stop staring.

“Look at that,” he said again, his fingers jabbing into my skin. “The way you let me use you is so beautiful.”

Beautiful. It was beautiful. The way he had me spread out awkwardly across the bathroom sink, naked while he was still clothed—it was vile and wicked and oh, so beautiful.

“I can’t control myself when I’m inside you.” His voice was ragged and threadbare. “I want to tear you apart. I want to rip you to shreds.” He moved both of his hands to grasp my thighs, tilting my pelvis so that his thrusts hit even deeper. “I want to destroy you. Want to fuck you to pieces. Want to shatter you. Want to break you.”

His awful, wonderful words set a storm to gather low inside me, and I could tell that this time it wouldn’t back down. I shifted my hands from the counter to his forearms to brace myself for its attack. The movement drew his attention from the mirror to my face.

“Want to break you,” he repeated, his words more of a rumble than actual speech.

“You do,” I said, peering up under heavy lids, my voice a mere rasp. “You do break me. Every time.”

Reeve’s eyes sparked in awe, then the muscles in his neck grew taut and his rhythm stuttered. With a low growl, he froze and spilled into me, his fingers digging so deep into my skin I was sure they’d leave bruises on my thighs.

It was so hot, how he defiled and wrecked me. So hot how he loved to see me devastated. So hot that I joined him in his release. My mouth fell open and my climax took over, coarsely racking through my body. Even with the mirror supporting my back, I was freefalling, spinning with pleasure. Only a thin layer of sweat and steam covered my body, but it felt like I’d been pulled underwater into a whirlpool of bliss.

Reeve put himself away, then watched me as I finished, as if completely enamored with my orgasm. As if completely enamored with me.

It was somewhat disconcerting to feel his eyes so heavy on me. He’d seen me come so many times before, but I’d never noticed him so intent. I lowered my gaze, but he lifted my chin, forcing me to meet his stare head-on.

With a gentle touch, he swept a lock of sweat-drenched hair from my forehead. “Every time?”

He’d been tender with me in the past, but it wasn’t his usual M.O., and it startled me. Moved me as I realized it came from a place of concern.

“Yes,” I answered honestly, because he did break me, every time that he stuck his cock inside me, every time that he made me climax, every time that he touched me. Outside of the moment, when the sex was over and we were people instead of sex-driven beasts, it sounded horrible. Who would want to be broken by her lover? Who would want to be destroyed?

I do. I always did. I longed for it and needed it. I needed him.

I caught his hand and pressed the back of it to my cheek. “It’s the only reason I ever want to be someone who’s put together. So that you can break me all over again.”

intothelight

Sara Adams awakes blind, unable to remember the most basic details of her life, but her darkness seems a blessing when she discovers the terrors of The Light.

When her best friend disappears, Stella digs for answers—despite warnings from her police detective boyfriend—following a twisted trail that leads her through the city’s most dangerous and forsaken precincts. There she uncovers something more sinister than she could have imagined: a shadowy organization known as The Light, led by the enigmatic Father Gabriel.

As Sara struggles to understand her place in the strange world she’s awakened to—an oppressive cult demanding unquestioning obedience—and her feelings for Jacob, the husband she can’t recall and whose harsh and tender attentions confuse and beguile her, Stella risks all to discover the truth. But enlightenment always comes with a price.…

My Review

When I picked up Into the Light, I went into it not knowing anything about it, other than the synopsis. All I knew was that I was going to go for one crazy ride. And true to Aleatha Romig fashion, she did not disappoint. What I got with Into the Light was a story unlike anything I’ve read before.

Into the Light is well written and intriguing with complex characters that are demanding their story be told. This story is told from dual points of view and is the total package. It has everything from mystery to suspense to romance and shocking twists and turns. This story will have you glued to the pages as you try to put all the pieces of the puzzle together. And in the end, you will be left with one crazy, shocking, give me the next book now cliffhanger.

All I can say is, Be ready! This story is going to take you for one heck of a ride!
