Review: Breaching the Contract by Chantal Fernando

New York Times bestselling author Chantal Fernando returns with a brand new series about a brigade of lawyers who, despite being bad boys at heart, always end up just on the right side of the law.

Katerina Dawson knows exactly what she wants from life. And as the new associate at the top law firm in the city, she’s ready to live out her dreams of becoming a criminal lawyer. But going on coffee runs and babysitting kids during the day was definitely not what she had in mind. She knows that anyone else would kill to be in her shoes, but she has to draw the line somewhere. That’s easier said than done, though, when Kat has to confront her handsome boss…

Tristan Channing and Jaxon Bentley run a successful law firm together and the two partners couldn’t be busier right now. When Jaxon suddenly takes a leave of absence, Tristan begrudgingly assumes responsibility of the new associate, the hot new associate, who has curves for days. Needing to keep his distance from her, Tristan sends Kat on needless errands and has her doing work even an intern wouldn’t touch, like picking up his kids. But his plan backfires when he sees his children grow attached to Kat and sees her getting comfortable in his home. It triggers something deep within him, and it feels right to have her there. Will Tristan be able to keep his work and personal lives separate, or will he find that his heart holds the final verdict?

My Review

“I choose the worst kind of men–the ones who need to be fixed. The broken ones. The narcissists, or those who are emotionally unavailable. The tortured souls.”

“What’s life without a little gamble? And I can’t think of anything more worthy to gamble on than love.”

What an exciting departure from author Chantal Fernando! Breaching the Contract is the exciting first book in the Conflict of Interest Series. Breaching the Contract might be a quick read, but it certainly hits all the marks. This book is fun and entertaining. It is a great office place/hate to love romance. I had fun connecting and getting to know the characters. I got swept up in the banter and tension between Tristan and Kat. Those turned burned up the pages and kept me coming back for more.

Overall, I thought this book was a great read to spend my afternoon getting lost in. It was quick, sexy and the perfect start to this new series. I can not wait to see what this author is going to bring to us next!

Excerpt:

It was the prickle on the back of his neck that warned Blade he was being followed.

Slowing his steps, he forced himself into a casual stroll as he checked out the streets of Bonne, Louisiana. He feigned interest in several glass storefronts that lined the town square, nodding toward the occasional pedestrian who studied him with blatant curiosity—and if he wasn’t mistaken—which he rarely was—a thread of fear.

Clearly, the small town thirty miles south of Baton Rouge didn’t get many visitors.

Of course, it was possible that the men stared because he was six foot four with the hard muscles of a trained athlete that flexed and rippled beneath his faded jeans and ivory thermal shirt. And the women…well, their gazes were clearly trained on his short gold hair, midnight eyes, finely chiseled features, and those wide lips that normally smiled with a charming ease, but were now pressed together with grim determination.

Turning onto a side street, he thankfully found it all but deserted. The town had obviously never been a bustling metropolis, but over the years it’d faded to a sleepy village. Which meant he could deal with his stalker without unwanted attention.

Maintaining his leisurely saunter, he passed by an abandoned gas station that was next to an empty lot. The breeze tugged at his short hair, chilling his skin.

Louisiana had two seasons. Hot and humid. Or cool and humid.

Today it was the latter.

Come on, my friend, he mused to the male who was tailing him. Just another couple of blocks and we can…chat.

At the edge of town, it didn’t slowly ease from commercial to residential to suburbs like most places. It just ended. As if the thick woods ahead of him refused to give way to progress.

Turning, his back to the stand of trees now, he folded his arms over his chest and studied the seemingly empty street.

“Show yourself, Hiss,” he commanded in a low voice.

Alexandra Ivy is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. From Alexandra: “I’m not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother’s knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library.

Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I’m not admitting how many) I’m still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

Laura Wright is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. From Laura: “Unlike many of my peers in the writing world, I wasn’t a writer or a reader until I left high school. During my youth I was into theater, song and dance, commercials and boys. I loved romance surely, but I had never read a romance novel until my late teens. With that said, I remember the day I did like it was a moment ago – my aunt gave me the Jude Deveraux novel, Knight in Shining Armor and I couldn’t put it down until the very last word. Then I went straight to the library and got another – then another until I’d read everything she’d ever written. After that, it was McNaught, Howard, Schone, Kleypas, and the Silhouette line, Desire. I instantly loved those emotional, sexy reads, so much so that I began to carve out ideas for my own stories, themes that were unique to me and moved me. In 1997 I enrolled in UCLA extension writing classes, met my mentor and critique partners and since have never stopped writing. I was committed then and I still am now; the need to tell my own romantic stories a full on obsession. My first manuscript was rejected, and though the second one was as well the editor who’d rejected it wanted to see something else from me. I had something (note to authors; always keep working, even after you’ve sent in a proposal) and sent it right away. The day I got the call telling me Desire wanted to buy Cinderella and the Playboy was the best day of my life. That is until I married my husband, and had my two beautiful children. But I must say, writing is much like motherhood – tough, grueling, surprising, delicious and for me, a dream come true.”

Review: Red Velvet by Lauren Luman

Submission.

It’s what Carrie Drazen thought she wanted until a violent attack leads her to a life outside of the BDSM world she knew.

Until Malakai Jackson.

His presence makes her question the life she’s been living and her vow to give up kink. He embodies the perfect Dom. Commanding. Attentive. Masterful.

But someone from Carrie’s past has other plans for her.

Scarred for life, is Malakai the one who will lead her back into the world of submission? Can he keep her safe?

My Review

“He obviously sees right through me, as if the eyes truly are the windows to the soul, and mine are wide the fuck open.”

Wow! Wow! Wow! Did I say WOW?! This book was so unexpected and I just loved it. Red Velvet is the debut novel from Lauren Luman and if this first novel is any indication, she has a bright future ahead of her.

Red Velvet is sexy, thrilling and captivating. Carrie and Malaki’s story pull you in from the very beginning and take you one delicious and thrilling journey. This book might be a novella, but I promise you it packs on heck of a punch. From sexy good times to surprising twists, this debut novel is definitely worth the read.

I think author Lauren Luman is off to a wonderful start and I look forward to checking out more from her in the future.

Review: Tied by Kim Karr

Posted on

It was an instant attraction—never meant to be more than a quick lay.

I was single, rich, and connected, which meant a steady diet of beautiful women wherever I went.
I really did think I had the perfect life.
Until I went and married a supermodel I’d just met, and everything changed.

The word annulment meant giving her up, and I never give up anything—not willingly anyway.
But I was a bachelor at heart, and having a wife, well, I didn’t really know what to do with that.
After only forty-eight hours of marriage, I had already gone and screwed everything up.

Now I have thirty days to prove to my new wife that I’m husband material. There’s only one problem—I don’t even know what husband material means. But I’m certain that won’t stop me from excelling at it.

My wife tells me it isn’t going to be easy. That I have numerous issues to overcome.

First, there’s my jealousy. It needs to be tamed. Did I flip over the fact that her latest picture was causing men around the world to do dirty things all over the covers she graces? Hell, yes. I couldn’t help myself though. When her photo went viral, my caveman instincts kicked in, and I demanded she quit her job and stay home—barefoot and pregnant in my kitchen. I can work on that, right?

Then there’s my mother. I need to convince her that my new wife is not the money hungry floozy she called her. Did my mother actually call her that? Yes. I can’t help it that my mother wants me to get rid of my new wife. The problem is what my mother wants, she always gets one way or another. Still, turning my mother’s opinion around can’t be that hard, can it?

There are many other issues, but according to my new wife, those are minor compared to the biggest one—she says I will never be able to accept being tied down.

Don’t worry, I got this one. I intend to prove to her in no uncertain terms that being tied up, down, or horizontal is just what this Upper East Sider needs.

My Review

“I felt all tied up. In that moment, everything became just the two of us, and I knew she had to be mine.”

“The man was lethal. With every touch, he seduced me, and I doubted he even knew.”

Told from dual points of view, Tied follows the story of James and Lindsay. From the moment these two meet, sparks fly and an unstoppable connection is formed. It might be a case of insta-love, but it worked so well for James and Lindsay. Their story might be told in a novella, but I promise you, it does not disappoint. Tied is fast paced and totally entertaining. The characters are a lot of fun, and as you know, I am a sucker for watching men that never thought they’d settle, fall in love.

Tied pulled me in from the very first page, and the characters had my heart instantly. This story had just the right mix of heat, sexy good times, a little drama, a quickie marriage and just an overall fun love story. I really enjoyed Tied and thought it was a wonderful book to spend a few hours getting lost in.

Review: Cheeky by Natasha Madsion

Posted on

Bradley Fitch has it all. A suave job, a gigantic trust fund, and an accent that makes panties drop faster than the speed of light. His new life in New York City is fast-paced and furious, but it’s nothing a little getaway can’t cure.

What says party and unwind like Las Vegas? Nothing. Plus, whatever happens there has to stay there.

When his best friend bails, he finds himself sitting on the plane next to his best friend’s sister.

She’s off-limits—proverbial caution tape wrapped around her body. Of course, she’s also totally ball busting gorgeous.

Lexi Quinn fell in love with Bradley at eight years old and then vowed to kill him at eight and a half. What was supposed to be a romantic week away is turning into a nightmare. Her ex is actually married, her luggage is lost, and her reservation is cancelled. And she’s sitting next to the man she swore to hate forever

One week. No strings attached. What is the worst that could happen?

It’s all fun and games till this British bad boy gives new meaning to BBC and becomes a little bit too cheeky.

My Review

“I wanted to do a lot more than kiss you. I wold have given my last breath to taste you just once.”

This was such a fun, flirty read. It was such a great take on the best friends little sister troupe. You can’t help but fall in love with Lexi and Bradley the moment that you meet them. Their chemistry is instant and hotter than hell, especially with the forbidden aspect. I loved watching these two navigate their feelings and trying to resist the pull.

Cheeky is just that. It is so much fun. It has great characters and a really entertaining story-line. It’s fast paced, but still exciting and swoon worthy. This book will have you fanning yourself from the heat one moment and falling head over heels the next. If you’re looking for a quick, fun, sexy as hell read, then look no further. Cheeky is a fabulous novella to spend the day getting lost in!

Synopsis
Once a man pledges his honor to his country, that sacrifice is embedded in his soul forever. For years he’s trained to fight, kill, and do whatever necessary to protect his country and its freedom, even if it means giving his own life.
He becomes more of a machine than human—one that’s built to destroy the enemy.
When it’s time to turn in his weapons, he never forgets the skills he learned. Never forgets the smell of death or feel of a rifle in his hands. The same hands that one day cradle his baby girl and caress the skin of his beautiful wife.
If anything or anyone ever tried to steal away the family he has vowed to love and protect, may God have mercy on their soul.

My Review

“Until my dying breath, I will protect what’s mine.”

How does she do it?? How does she pack so much into a short little novella? How is it possible to have so much action, so much drama and all in the feels in such a short read? I don’t know how she does, but man oh man does KC Lynn continue to just blow my mind.

Fighting with Honor might be a novella, but I am here to tell you, this story packs a punch. It hits the ground running and will leave you breathless. Within minutes you can feel love and devotion between Julia and Jax. You will be fanning yourself one moment from all the hotness and holding your breath the very next when the unthinkable happens. You will be on the edge of your seat dying to know what will happen next….

I didn’t just read this book, I devoured and consumed it. I was swept away and lost in Jax and Julia’s story. I couldn’t read through the pages fast enough. And in true KC Lynn style, she not only delivered a story of true and profound love, but delivered a story of devotion, honor, and lifelong friendships. Fighting with Honor gave me all the feels, pulled at my heart and kept me begging for more.

Fighting with Honor is a fantastic addition to The Men of Honor Series and I highly recommend checking it out.

CockLoft
Cockloft: A firefighter term used as a structural space above ceiling and below rafters, often connecting adjacent occupancies and permitting fire to spread laterally, often unseen.
Gabriel Martinez is the most arrogant and infuriating man I’ve ever met. He has a knee-weakening smirk that makes me want to kiss—no—slap it off his rude, sexy face. Judging by his ego, you’d think the hose in his pants is as big as the one on his fire truck. Not that I know anything about that nor do I want to. Nope, not at all. He’s already been forgotten like last season’s Michael Kors.
CeCe Kensington is as pretentious and spoiled as they come. The ridiculous purses she shoulders around are as big as her attitude. And don’t get me started on her mile-long legs or full, glossy lips that are meant to be wrapped around a guy’s… If she only knew the dirty things I think about doing to that sassy mouth of hers, she’d be hightailing it back to her side of town.
✿¸.•´¸✿*´¨) ¸.•*¨✿
When the beautiful boutique owner and sexy firefighter meet in the most unlikely situation, their two worlds collide, creating an explosion of misperceptions and combustible heat, trapping them in a fire they never saw coming.

 EXCERPT:

“I’m already working my ass off for you.”

“No, your list. For what you want in a woman. Have you graduated to date four yet?”

Irritation skittered across his features. She tried to tamp down her delight. “Not yet.” She waited him out, learning he liked to space out his responses. “I’m seeing her again this Friday,” he added grudgingly.

“Ooh, exciting. Okay, so tell me what floats your boat, Casanova.”

He shuddered. “God, please don’t call me that. Or talk like that.”

“Sorry, I forget you’re a bit high class.”

“No, I just speak proper English.”

“Stop stalling.”

He looked away but she caught the edge of a grin. He’d be loath to admit it, but she made him laugh. And from what she’d seen, this man desperately needed someone to balance all that seriousness. It must be exhausting.

“Fine. What do you want to know?”

She practically clapped her hands with glee. “The same question I answered. Tell me the traits in your perfect woman.”

His arms flexed as he worked the hammer, and her gaze snagged on the lean, sinewy muscles under gorgeous brown skin. Wood chips and dust clung to his figure but it only added to his attractiveness, giving a sense of ruggedness to his normal poised elegance. Yes, women would definitely seek him out for his appearance alone, but she wondered how many stayed after they got a dose of his attitude. He must be on his best behavior to trick them.

“I don’t know why you’re interested in this,” he muttered.

“Tit for tat.”

“It’s simple, really. I know exactly what I’m looking for. I’m ready to get married and have a family.”

“Right away?”

“Yes. My future wife will have a few core qualities that I won’t compromise on. Loyalty, honesty, and dual respect are at the top.”

She cocked her head, studying him. He’d managed to surprise her. “Very thoughtful. Excellent choices.”

“So glad you approve. I need a certain amount of intellectual stimulation, as I’m sure she will, so she cannot be just a pretty face.”

Huh. Maybe she’d been wrong about him. So far, she wholeheartedly agreed with his choices.
“Can’t argue with those.”

“I don’t need laugh-out-loud funny, but a sense of humor helps get you through hard times.”

“Agreed.”

“And then she needs to obey, of course.”
