Release Blitz with Review: Juniper Hill by Devney Perry

Juniper Hill by Devney Perry is now live!

Memphis Ward arrives in Quincy, Montana, on the fifth worst day of her life. She needs a shower. She needs a snack. She needs some sanity. Because moving across the country with her newborn baby is by far the craziest thing she’s ever done.

But maybe it takes a little crazy to build a good life. If putting the past behind her requires a thousand miles and a new town, she’ll do it if it means a better future for her son. Even if it requires setting aside the glamour of her former life. Even if it requires working as a housekeeper at The Eloise Inn and living in an apartment above a garage.

It’s there, on the fifth worst day of her life, that she meets the handsomest man she’s ever laid eyes on. Knox Eden is a beautiful, sinful dream, a chef and her temporary landlord. With his sharp, stubbled jaw and tattooed arms, he’s raw and rugged and everything she’s never had—and never will. Because after the first worst day of her life, Memphis learned a good life requires giving up on her dreams too. And a man like Knox Eden will only ever be a dream.

My Review

“That was the problem with that line. Every time he was around, I wanted to cross it.”

“Knox was a good man. He was as reliable as the sunrise. As breathtaking as the Montana sunsets. He was the type of person I wanted Drake to become.”

“Let me make it clear. You are mine. Drake is mine. For all of your todays and each of your tomorrows. Mine.”

The latest addition to the Edens Series is here and I couldn’t be more excited about it. It’s no secret that I absolutely loved Indigo Ridge, so when I heard about Juniper Hill the bar was set high. And let me tell you, Deveny Perry obliterated the bar and gave me one heck of read to start off 2022 with.

From the moment I picked up Juniper Hill I was hooked. Memphis had the weight of the world on her shoulders and was looking for a much-needed fresh start with her baby boy. What she didn’t plan for was Knox. Knox is the ultimate book boyfriend. Sure Knox had his fair share of heartbreak, enjoyed his solitude, and wasn’t looking for love, but the moment he laid eyes on Memphis, it was like someone had flipped a switch, and I couldn’t wait to see how it would all play out.

Juniper Hill delivered on every front. The characters are real and perfectly flawed. The moment you meet them, you can’t help but want to know more. I loved all of the good moments and all of the hard ones too. I loved the ease of the relationship between Memphis and Knox, and the way Knox treated Memphis’s little boy just tugged on my heartstrings. They took their time getting to know each other, building a solid foundation. Both of them trying to move past the pain and disappointment of the past.

And just when I think I couldn’t possibly love the Eden family more, they had to go and prove me wrong. The Eden family took Memphis in and gave her the fresh start she needed. They showed her what a real family should be and what it was like to have someone in your corner with no strings attached. The Eden family is the real deal.

As you can tell, there is just so much to love about Juniper Hill. Devney Perry has once again delivered an unforgettable, swoon-worthy small-town romance. This must-read romance will leave readers utterly captivated and unable to put down. It’s a story of second chances that left with stars in my eyes one minute and tears the next. I laughed. I swooned. I was on the edge of my seat. In the end, I was taken on one heck of a ride and left with all the feels.

I loved everything about Juniper Hill from beginning to end and can not wait to get my hands on the next book in the Edens Series!

Release Blitz with Review: Paradise Fought: Abel by L.B. Dunbar

Title: Paradise Fought: Abel
Series: Paradise #1
 Author: L.B. Dunbar
Genre: Contemporary New Adult Romance/MMA
  Release Date: January 25, 2016

I’m not a fighter.
I was born into a fighting family. As the middle child, I was overlooked in favor of my older brother.
He took the negative attention, too. In comparison, there’s nothing special about me.
I’m not as big as Cobra. I’m not as strong as Cobra. He’s the alpha.
I’m a beta.
The second son.
The lesser one.
The one never encouraged to fight, never encouraged to do anything, but stay out of my father’s way.

I’m not a lover either – but I wished to be – that’s why I needed her.
I met a girl in the pouring rain.
Sounds cliché, but it’s true. It changed everything.
Because of love, I learned to fight.

Betas come second, but in this fight, my story is first.

My Review

“Your heartbeat matches mine.”

“This will be the greatest fight ever fought.” “Brother against brother.” “A fight to the death.” ” All for love.”

What a brilliant, brilliant read!! One of the first things that caught my attention regarding this book was the cover. And if you know me, you know just how much I love a book cover. And this one, just intrigued me. It made me want to read the synopsis and find out more. And once I read that synopsis, I knew I had to read this book.

Now, as a fan of L.B. Dunbar’s work, I know I’m about to experience something rather extraordinary. See, one of the things I love about this author’s work is how she takes a story that we all know and love and not only gives it a modern twist, but she puts her own unique spin on it. And this book does not disappoint. Paradise Found: Abel, follows the story of Abel and Elma. Told from dual points of view, this story pulls you in from the very first page and you will find yourself unable to put it down. From the moment I encountered both Abel and Elma, I wanted to know more about them. They had amazing chemistry and I found myself instantly captivated and intrigued by them. Each of them had their own demons to battle and never realized just how their paths would cross. I loved watching them fall in love; despite everything. I loved seeing them overcome their challenges and life’s expectations and face those demons head on.

What else can I say about this book? This book is totally unique and very entertaining. The story-line is intriguing and the characters are impossible to not fall in love with. There is action and romance. There is angst and drama. There is pretty much something for everyone. It’s swoony and sexy and just leaves you begging for more. And in the end you are left with that “Wow, that was an awesome read” feeling! This series is off to an amazing start and I can’t wait to dive into the next book!

If I thought I was going to make a speedy getaway, I was wrong. My savior caught up to me, half way down the walk, outside the finance building. He was quick and a large hand wrapped around my upper arm.

“Whoa, sister,” he said, slightly out of breath. “You almost got away from me again.”

“What?” I questioned. I had no idea what he meant: again.

“Never mind,” he muttered, his hand still on me. I looked down at it and he immediately released me. My eyes pinched as I realized I didn’t mind his hand on my skin. There was something nonthreatening about him. He seemed rather innocent, studious, actually. His shirt was buttoned almost to the top and tucked into his pants. The sleeves secure at the cuffs. His jeans were snug and hugged him well. He wore dark rimmed glasses that screamed smart. Brown boots looked too new on his large feet. It was like he had the right parts but the wrong combination.

His blue eyes were soft and easy to look into. They practically spoke to me, but I had no idea what he was saying. His dark hair was disheveled, a bit shaggy, but cool looking. He kind of looked like a pop star, which was a little too sugar sweet for me. His form was questionable. It was hard to tell what kind of body he had under those clothes. He looked rather preppy, like half the guys at this university. I didn’t want to think about it. I’d just sold my soul for another semester.

“So when do you want to do this?” I asked. His blank stare told me he had no idea what I meant.

“Us,” I said, pointing between him and me.

“I…” His voice trailed off as he gawked at me. His expression changed from confusion to shock.

“I didn’t buy you to sleep with you,” he said, a touch of disbelief in his voice. His face turned crimson, then fell. “Why, have you done that before?” It was my turn to be surprised and offended.

I turned on my heels and began stomping away from him. He was too quick and he caught me again. His hand on my arm halted me. This time he didn’t release me when I peered down at his fingers wrapped around my bicep.

“Look. I need help,” he blurted. His face pinked a little, and it was sweet. “I don’t need help with sex. I need help with before.” His tone dropped, and he looked side to side to see if anyone would hear him. I took his meaning.

“You don’t know how to do foreplay?” I questioned in a loud whisper, trying to hide my astonishment. How could anyone have sex and not know a touch of foreplay?

His face pinked again.

“Not that,” he said, sounding like a child. “The flirting. The dating. The…other stuff.”

I was stunned. I stared at him, taking in his features again. He was kind of cute, leaning toward the potential for good looking. He couldn’t possibly need help with this request. The confusion on my face made him speak.

“I don’t know how to flirt.” The words swirled between us.

“I don’t understand.” I didn’t. I didn’t know what he wanted from me.

“I need lessons how to be…cool: with girls. Call it a tutoring session. I need to learn how to be…seen.” His voice took on a touch of sadness. He couldn’t possibly be serious. I continued to stare at him. My mouth might have actually dropped open a bit, and I noticed he was watching my lips. It was a little exciting the way he stared at them. I licked them and his pupils dilated, filling in more black over the blue. His expression changed. Knowingly, he blinked when he realized I was teasing him. His lip quirked up and a dimple showed in his cheek.

“I need to date you,” he blurted. “To learn how to do, what you just did to me.”

My Review

“There’s nothing dependable about the way she makes me feel. Bold. Reckless. Wild. It’s an intoxicating rush, just being in the orbit of her whirlwind energy. The vivid pulse ricocheting from every smile, every touch. Like a ray of light and color bursting from the grey, making me question everything I’ve always believed in. Making me wonder why I’ve been running so long.”

Unforgettable is the final book in the Beachwood Bay Series. It is also the second part to Ash and Noelle’s story. Ash and Noelle spend one unforgettable night together. A night that Noelle keeps replaying in her mind. Caught up in the rat race of the corporate world, Noelle doesn’t have much time for herself. She’s constantly working and wondering if this is the life that she wants. The death of her beloved grandmother changes her perspective on things. She makes a shocking decision to quit her job and return to Beachwood Bay and try to keep her grandmother’s memory alive. The one thing she wasn’t counting on was running into Ash again. Ash lives a busy life and love is definitely not on his mind. He lives and breathes for work. The night he spent with Noelle was the first impulsive thing that he’s allowed himself in a very long time. But, he’s determined to put that night behind him. He needs order in his life. Boy was world turned upside down when Noelle showed up in Beachwood Bay…..

I am so sad to see that this is the end of the road for this series. I know that all good things must come to an end, but I just love this series and these characters so much. Unforgettable was a great way to send this series off. It gave me everything that I have grown to love about this series. I loved the angst, romance, drama and the characters. Honestly I loved everything about it. I laughed. I smiled. I swooned. And the epilogue brought tears to my eyes. It was the best possible way to end this series. Fans of Melody Grace and her Beachwood Bay series will not be disappointed. As sad as I am to see this series go, these characters will not be forgotten. They will always hold a special place in my heart.

“One night can change everything …”
“Watch out!”

The packed crowd in Jimmy’s bar suddenly shifts, and I go slamming into someone.

“Sorry!” I put my hands out to keep from falling, and a pair of strong arms grip me tightly, keeping me on my feet. “I didn’t see you—”

I look up, and the words fade on my lips. The room disappears—all the noise and jostling crowd blurring into background static.

It’s him.

Ash. The man from the masquerade party. The one who led me on a wild night of adventure—and never called me the next morning. He should be five hundred miles away, but he’s here, in the middle of the crowded bar in Beachwood Bay, looking at me like I’m a ghost.

I know how he feels. It’s impossible, it has to be. But I can feel his hands, gripping me tightly; feel the warm, solid muscle of his body against mine.

I know those hands. I’ve explored that body. There would be no mistaking them, even if I wasn’t gazing into his piercing dark eyes, the ones branded on my memory.

Oh my God.

The moment stretches, electric. Then someone slams into me again, and Ash yanks me back. Suddenly, the world rushes in again.

“What are you…?” I whisper, still not able to believe it. “I mean…”

I fight to collect myself, but before I can form a coherent sentence, Ash grabs my hand and pulls me across the room. He’s moving so fast, I can barely keep up: I hurry after him, through the crowd and down a back hallway.

“Where are we going?” I gulp, my heart racing. “Slow down. Ash!”

He ignores me, pulling me after him, up a flight of stairs, and through another door. We emerge on the rooftop, a flat expanse decorated with string lights and a view of the whole bay. I barely have time to catch my breath before Ash brings his hands to my face, pushes me back against the wall and kisses me so hard I forget my own name.

Just like before, the chemical reaction is instant: a flare of heat surging through me, so bright it blots the world, like staring straight into the sun. I part my lips, greedy for the taste of him, loving the sensual caress of his tongue as he slides it deep into my mouth.

Ash groans against me, and I arch up, wrapping my arms around his neck to pull him closer. He’s gripping me so tightly, my body is crushed against him; my back hard against the wall. He threads the fingers on one hand roughly through my hair, pinning me in place as his mouth continues its devastating exploration.

There’s no way to explain it, how my body responds to his touch. Touch-paper to a flame; igniting like never before. I run my hands through his dark hair, slide across the muscular contours of his back, gripping at his shirt and kissing him with everything I have. I can’t think, I can’t breathe, I just fall deeper into the kiss, our passion obliterating every last thought from my mind.

It’s a rush of glitter in my veins, of soaring fever and a low, aching need. Desire consumes me, hot and demanding, until suddenly, Ash wrenches free.

I gasp for air, sinking back against the wall. My legs go weak as his eyes rake over me, blazing darkly with lust. “What are you doing here?” he whispers harshly.

“I…” I can’t find the words, I’m still reeling with shock—and desire.

A shadow crosses his face. He shakes his head, looking dazed. “No,” he mutters, cutting me off. “This isn’t happening.” Before I can say another word, he turns and strides away from me, slamming the exit door with a crash. I’m left alone on the rooftop with nothing but the sound of my own beating heart.

My Review

BOOM. That moment when Aurora Rose Reynolds characters have their BOOM moment….Is there anything better??

Let me start off by saying that I am a big, big fan of Aurora Rose Reynolds and her Until series. I was so sad when we got to Until Nico, because this was one series i wasn’t ready to say goodbye to. Then I found out that we were getting a spin off series, Until Her, and I was over the moon. I could not wait to get my hands on this book and let me tell you, I was not disappointed! Not one bit! I love the alpha male characters that Aurora writes and she knocked it out of the park with this one. I mean hello, biker alpha! Yes please!

Honestly, I was a little scared in the beginning. I mean, the bar was set high and I was a little afraid that this book wouldn’t meet my expectations, but let me tell you, I was worried for nothing. This book hit all the marks for me. I was hooked on Wes and July from the moment I met them. Their connection instant. Their chemistry scorching, off the charts, HOT! I couldn’t get enough of the two of them together. Wes was the total alpha male and the perfect match for July.

Until July is a wonderful addition to the Until series. I devoured this book in half a day. As soon as I read that first page, I knew I was a goner. There was no way I was putting this book down. I loved everything about it. The characters were great and easy to connect with. It was hot, sexy, intriguing, and entertaining. It had drama, action and the perfect amount of romance.

I really enjoyed Wes and July’s story. It was absolutely perfect and left me with the biggest smile on my face. The Until Her series is off to a great start and I for one can not wait to get my hands on the next book in the series, Until Jax.  Fans of Aurora Rose Reynolds: You will NOT be disappointed!

I sit up when I see a few bikes in the distance. I don’t recognize their patches, but that doesn’t surprise me. Tennessee has a huge MC community, and there are always new clubs popping up all over the state. I slow down as I close the distance between us.

The closer I get, the more details I can make out. The group of about five bikes in front of me are all Harleys, all ranging in colors from almost purple to black. None of the men are wearing helmets, which is the complete opposite of me, who is covered from head to toe in black leather. Even my helmet is all black, with leather piping.

I take the men in, noticing they are all well-built, their leather cuts displaying a large eagle, with its wings spread wide like it’s midflight. The talons of the bird are carrying a long stem rose, with petals falling off it onto their club name, The Broken Eagles. I begin to speed up and pass them one by one, thankful for the security of my helmet, the black visor making it impossible to see me.

I keep my head straight until the last guy, the one who is at the front of the group, catches my attention. From the back, his hair is the first thing I notice. It’s slightly long on top and buzzed on the sides. My eyes move to the expanse of his back, the wide set of his shoulders, and the tan skin covering his lean muscles. His bike is low to the ground, and the bars are in front of him in a way that he has to stretch his arms straight out, causing every muscle to flex and move, making it look like the tattoos are alive and dancing.

My eyes skim farther down over his chest, which is covered in a white tank top tucked into a pair of light jeans, and around his waist is a black belt with a large silver buckle. I continue to pass him, my eyes shifting from the road to him and back again. This time when I look over, his head is turned towards me, and if I didn’t know any better, I would have swear he is looking directly into my soul.

“Holy shit,” I whisper, taking in his hair, the set of his jaw that is covered in days of stubble, and a pair of light eyes I can’t quite make out through the tint of my helmet. He is seriously hot, but equally scary-looking. I look from him back to the road. It must not have been even a second, but when my eyes go to the asphalt in front of me, I see a bird that is trying to make its way across the road, its wing hanging in an awkward position. I swerve to the right just in time to miss the poor animal.

“What the fuck?” I hear roared, and I look over my shoulder at the man who is now coming up quick on my right side. I yell an apology over the sound of my engine and his pipes. Do a quick wave and take off, lowering my body and pulling back the throttle, wanting to get away from them. Dude looks seriously pissed off, and even though I hate leaving the bird behind without helping it, I would like to live to see my next birthday.

I think I’m in the clear, but then the sound of pipes fills my ears, and I don’t even know how it happens, but they all catch up with me, surrounding my bike. I can’t make out what they’re saying, but my stomach starts to roll at the sound of their voices. I feel my side to make sure I have the Taser my dad insisted I carry.

I see a clearing and pull my bike off to the side of the road. I know this is probably one of the stupidest things I have ever done, but if they keep chasing me like they have been, we could all end up seriously hurt. I pull over and don’t even shut down my bike. I just lower my kickstand as my heart, which was already beating hard, begins to bang violently against my ribcage as they surround me.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” the guy who was at the head of the group asks, stepping in front of my bike.

I shake my head as my words get lodged in my throat.

He pulls me off my bike, and the men who are with him begin yelling obscenities as well.

“Sorry,” I croak out, and I don’t even know if he hears me as his hand goes to the collar of my leather jacket, where he shakes me hard. My hand accidently presses down on the button that ignites the Taser. The loud crack fills the air, and his eyes go wide then he falls to the ground, and I fall on my ass and crabwalk backwards. I look up when I hit something, only to meet the eyes of another man, who looks pissed.

“Get up,” he growls, picking me up. My feet flail under me as I’m lifted off the ground with my hands restrained behind my back.

“Hold him still,” the guy who I had tasered growls in front of me as I try to get away from the anger I feel coming off him. His hands go to my head and he rips my helmet off, causing my hair to float down around me.

Complete silence descends. I swear no one even takes a breath.

AY teaser 2

My Review

Always You follows the story of Samantha and Lucas. Samantha has had a crush on Lucas for as long as she has remembered, but he has never once looked her way. When Lucas gets an opportunity to move to the west coast, Sam finally decides that it’s time to move on. She moves on with Marc. At first things seem wonderful. He’s the perfect guy. They fall in love, get married and have a baby. Now, many years later, Sam and Marc’s marriage is slowly deteriorating. He’s jobless, mean and just plain lazy. He’s out all the time and doesn’t even take his wife into consideration. And worst of all, he acts as though his child is a burden. Why, oh why does Sam stay with Marc, you wonder? The answer is simple. She does it for her daughter.

Lucas has always had feelings for Sam. He’s always treasured her and felt the need to protect her, but the timing was never right. Years later, Lucas finds himself back home. When he meets Samantha again, he finally sees what he’s been missing all along. Only the problem is that she’s married. The more time they spend together, the more they fall into the easy friendship that they’ve always had. They’re both trying to fight what they’re feeling, but are both falling hard. When life throws Lucas and Samantha the opportunity for happiness, will they grab on to it with both hands? Will Samantha finally get the life that she deserves?

AY teaser 3

What an amazing debt novel by Stephanie Rose. The writing in this story is so captivating, so real, so palpable. When I read words like these:

“No!” Lucas yelled as a tear ran down his cheek. “You’re mine, Samantha–and I’m yours. You, me, Bella. We’re a family. My family. This is not what you think it is. I would never hurt you like that. I love you so much. Always you. You’re my life, my everything, my fucking world. I’ll never let you go. I can’t. I won’t.”

I couldn’t help but be hooked. This is one of those stories that sucks you and you can’t help but read every last word. I devoured this book. I savored every last word. I was rooting so hard for Samantha to get the life and love that she always deserved.

“I love you because of the way you look at me–like I’m a superhero who can do anything. I love you because I can’t picture my life without you”

“Superheros need a girl they can save, so she can save them right back.”

Lucas and Samantha’s road to HEA was not an easy one. They had so many obstacles and insecurities to overcome. I was hoping and praying that things would work out for them. They are exactly what a second chance romance should be.

Always You is such an amazing read. I have been looking for a really good, angsty read and this one more than delivered. I loved the characters. They were so real and easy to relate to. Their situations captivating, pulling at my heart and never letting go. Always You is a beautiful story of friendship, love, finding that second chance and never giving up. The perfect amount of angst and romance. As I said before, this is an amazing debut novel and I can not wait to read more from this author in the future!

“Shit, Sam! Baby Girl, are you okay?”

God, please no. Calling me Baby Girl now was like sticking a knife directly into my already broken heart. Lucas lifted me off the ground to help me stand. He wrapped his arms around me and kissed the top of my head. I always loved when he did that, but now it hurt like hell. It was torturous, but I let myself feel him one last time. I wanted to remember the way he smelled, how his arms felt like home—but he wasn’t my home anymore, and it killed me to know that.

I pushed out of his hold and looked at his face. His beautiful face. His blue eyes were still glassy, but they were red now. I didn’t want to believe what I saw. I wanted to look at the unshed tears growing in Lucas’s eyes and think it meant he really loved me, and he would never ever hurt me.

I saw an empty cab coming up the block and raised my arm to hail it. I must’ve fallen hard as blood trickled down my wrist when I held my hand up. The cab slowed to a stop and I headed to the curb where it waited. I willed myself to stop crying at least until I got inside.

Lucas grabbed my arm again, shaking his head. “You can’t leave like this.” His voice was cracking. “I need you, I love you. You know me, Sam.”

I shook my head sadly. “No. No, I don’t.”

Dying . . .
Dead . . .
Deceased . . . It doesn’t matter how many times I say it or how many different names I give it, it still means the same thing. One of these days I’ll be nothing but a passing memory, a familiar face in a forgotten photo. But there’s three things I need before this life of mine ends . . . I need to tell him I love him more than life itself.
I need to feel the strength of his arms wrapped around me just one more night.
Most of all, I need him to forgive me.Eight years ago I broke the heart of the only man I’ve ever loved and today I’m moving home in hopes that he’ll let me put it back together. I’m not sure how many breaths I have left, but I’ll use each and every last one fighting for what I destroyed. My name is Laney Jacobs and this is my journey.

My Review
Heartbreaking. Beautiful. Well Written. Captivating. Those are just a few words to describe this amazing book. Finding the words to give this book the justice that it deserves was a difficult task for me, but I’m going to give it my best shot…..
Pretty Pink Ribbons follows the story of Laney and Levi. Eight years ago, Laney made the biggest mistake of her life. Forced with an ultimatum, she choose following her dreams over love. A decision that she has regretted since the moment she made it. Now, eight years later, Laney is moving back home. She wants to try to make up for her mistakes and hopes that Levi will give her a second chance before it’s too late. When Laney left  Levi, he was devastated. He promised himself that he would never fall in love again. For eight years, he’s tried desperately to erase her memory. Just when he thinks that he’s finally moved on, Laney comes back into his life. Levi finds himself confused. He wants to be mad at her, but is finding that to be nearly impossible, especially once they hash things out. When the truth comes out, will Levi and Laney be able to get past the hurt and have a second chance?
It is so hard to believe that this only K.L. Grayson’s second book! It is so well written, it feels as though she has been writing for ages. From the moment I read this synopsis, I knew I had to get my hands on  this book. I knew it was going to be life changing. I was not prepared for how deeply this book would effect me. Pretty Pink Ribbons is beautifully written and you can tell that this book was written from the author’s heart. I could not put this book down. I devoured every word, every moment of this book. There were so many times where I was brought to tears. This book wrecked me and broke me in the best possible way.
The characters are absolutely amazing. I was hooked on Laney and Levi from the very first page and just had to know more about their story. Their connection and chemistry was so beautiful. I was crossing my fingers and rooting for them to be able to find their way back to each other. The secondary characters were just as amazing. I adored Mia and Benny. They were the absolute best friends Laney could even ask for. Their strength and love was so inspiring. Everyone needs friends like those in their life. And I really hope that we get to see more of them in the future.
Pretty Pink Ribbons is not an easy read. The subject matter is tough and real. Your heart will break and it will feel as though you going through all of this with Laney. That being said, this is a book about strength, determination, fight and the power of love. This is one of those reads that will stay with you for a long time. I loved everything about Laney and Levi’s story. I highly recommend checking this one out!
*I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

“I wish it was someone else,” she croaks, swallowing hard. “There are thousands of bad people in the world, but it happened to you.” I watch her eyes fill with tears and then I look away. It’s pathetic of me really; that I’m unable to look my best friend in the face when it’s obvious that she is struggling with this almost as much as I am. But I’ve cried my fair share of tears and although I’m certain my tear ducts have yet to dry up, I don’t want to cry tonight. Somehow I know that if I watch Mia break, then I’ll shatter right along with her.

“I’m glad it’s me.” She gasps, startled by my words, and I rush to try and explain. “If it wasn’t me, it would be someone else, and I would never wish this upon someone else. You know that saying that God will only give you what you can handle?”

She nods

“Sometimes I tell myself that he just thinks I’m really strong and I can handle it, whereas someone else couldn’t.”

“Does that help?” she asks. “Does that make you feel better about it?”

“No, but it eases my mind. Sometimes when I’m having a good day, it brings me peace, however temporary it may be. But no, it doesn’t make me feel better.”

“Peace,” she whispers, seemingly trying the word on for size. “I want you to have peace.”
