Since the beginning of time, tales have been told about Eden. But all the stories are wrong.

Running parallel alongside Earth, but never touching, there exists not just a garden, but an entire world of vivid colours and breathtaking beauty where the Seraph reside.

Jazmine has lived in ten different foster homes, in ten different towns and all her life she has felt like she doesn’t belong – not in the trailer park which happens to be foster home number ten, not anywhere on Earth. After a universe shattering revelation, she discovers why. Far from being the nothing and no one, with no past and no future, that Jazmine had always believed herself to be, she discovers that she is in fact an heir to one of the seven remaining Seraph Dynasties.

She is Jazmine Evenstar, the last heir to the sovereign Evenstar Dynasty.

Thrust into the world of wealth and privilege in which the impossibly beautiful and equally cruel Dynasty heirs reside, Jazmine is forced to manoeuvre the tangled web that holds the Dynasties together. Against the backdrop of breathtaking star filled nights, sweeping coastlines, grand marble halls and decadent palaces, Jazmine tries to find her place in this beautiful new world whilst fighting not to lose herself in the process.

But the fairy tale quickly unravels.

Half human and the illegitimate daughter of the late suicide King of Eden, the other Dynasty heirs make it clear that Jazmine does not belong in their world.

Raphael St. Tristan, heir to the rival sovereign St. Tristan Dynasty and next in line to the throne of Eden, the guy with the face of an angel but who is as wicked as the devil himself, promises to break her.

Jazmine quickly learns that the beauty of Eden is nothing but a deception as she uncovers the secrets festering at the heart of it. But can she disentangle herself from the web of deception and intrigue that the Dynasty heirs have spun? Can she stop herself from falling into Raphael St. Tristan’s trap before he can fulfil his promise to shatter her completely? Or are those stories about Eden true after all and will she be foolish enough to taste the forbidden fruit that is Eden itself?

SECRET HEIR is the first book in the all new DYNASTY trilogy. A loose adaption of Romeo and Juliet but with a fantastical twist, this saga of feuding Dynasties, forbidden love, betrayal, royal scandals and power struggles for the crown promises to ensnare, captivate and shatter then leave readers clawing for more.

Welcome to Eden…

Review: Heat Wave by Karina Halle

heatwave

They say when life closes one door, another one opens.
This door happens to lead to paradise.
And a man I can never, ever have.

Still grieving the loss of her sister who died two years ago, the last thing Veronica “Ronnie” Locke needed was to lose her job at one of Chicago’s finest restaurants and have to move back in with her parents. So when a window of opportunity opens for her – running a kitchen at a small Hawaiian hotel – she’d be crazy not to take it.

The only problem is, the man running the hotel drives her crazy:
Logan Shephard.
It doesn’t matter that he’s got dark brown eyes, a tall, muscular build that’s sculpted from daily surfing sessions, and a deep Australian accent that makes your toes curl.
What does matter is that he’s a grump.
Kind of an asshole, too.
And gets under Ronnie’s skin like no one else.

But the more time Ronnie spends on the island of Kauai, falling in love with the lush land and its carefree lifestyle, the closer she gets to Logan. And the closer she gets to Logan, the more she realizes she may have pegged him all wrong. Maybe it’s the hot, steamy jungles or the invigorating ocean air, but soon their relationship becomes utterly intoxicating.

There’s just one major catch.

The two of them together would incite a scandal neither Ronnie, nor her family, would ever recover from.

Forbidden, Illicit, Off-limits – sometimes the heat is worth surrendering to, even if you get burned.

My Review

“There are moments in your life, people in your life, that when they cross your path and meet your eye, you know. Maybe it’s all in the chemistry, certain pheromones that react when they mix together, maybe it’s a smell that triggers a memory, maybe it’s a glimpse at a future you don’t recognize or a hint at the past, a life you’ve lived and forgotten. Whatever it is, you know that moment, that person, is going to shape you for the rest of your life.”

“He is in complete control and I surrender. I surrender completely. I want him to take me, take me over, devour me, annihilate me. I want every single part of him, deep, deep, deep. I want to see how much of him I can take, how he feels from the inside, what it feels like to be thoroughly fucked by Logan Shephard.”

What a delicious and intriguing little read Heat Wave is. Now, I don’t know about you guys, but I have been waiting in anticipation to read Heat Wave. I was so intrigued by the synopsis, I just knew I had to read this book….

Heat Wave is an intoxicating and intriguing read. From the moment you pick up this book, you will become lost in Ronnie and Logan’s story. You will have questions and will be desperate for answers. You will want to know what happened to Ronnie and Logan. You will want to know why Ronnie’s hatred is so strong for this man, but their attraction is out of this world. Yes, the attraction between this two is intense. The air just seems to crackle around around the two of them, turning their sexual tension into a very palpable thing. It will have you waiting with baited breath to see one moment to the next; to see what will happen with Ronnie and Logan….

Heat Wave is a fantastic read from start to finish. Heat Wave is unlike anything I’ve read from this author before and I love just how truly unique this story was. It is a second chance romance with a bit of a forbidden flare to it. This story will have you asking questions and will leave you surprised with the answers that you find. This story will pull at your heart and will frustrate the hell out of you.  My only complaint and it is kind of a small one is that I do feel like parts of the story were a bit rushed. I feel like there was a slow build to the overall story and romance, setting the stage for the story, but then somewhere around 50-60%, things just happened at too fast of a speed. To me, it just didn’t sit right with the story and I would have liked it to have just slowed down a bit.

Despite my issue with the pacing of this book, I found this book to be very well written and an overall enjoyable read.

Blurb

From the New York Times bestselling author of Stepbrother Dearest, comes a new forbidden STANDALONE romance.

What happens when the one you want is the only one you can’t have?

My name is Sevin.

Homeschooled and sheltered by my ultra-religious family, I was always taught that lust was a sin.

Elle was the girl who’d been carefully chosen for me.

After a long-distance courtship, I’d be moving into her family’s guesthouse so that we could get to know each other in the months before the wedding.

Boundaries were set: no inappropriate touching, no kissing, no sex before marriage.

I’d accepted those rules and my fate.

Until I met the one I wanted to sin with.

That was when restraint became a problem…especially since the one wasn’t Elle.

It was her sister, Evangeline.

You know what they say about best laid plans.

My name is Sevin, and I have sinned.

Told in alternating points of view, Sins of Sevin is a full-length standalone novel. Contains graphic sexual content and harsh language. Only appropriate for adult readers age 18+.

Review: Flirting With Scandal by Chanel Cleeton

Posted on

flirtingwithscandal

The author of I See London sets her sights on Washington, D. C., with a sexy new series about three sisters, the secrets they keep, and a powerful blog with a knack for exposing scandals…

Jackie Gardner knows all about dirty little secrets. The illegitimate daughter of one of the most influential senators in Washington, D.C., she grew up surrounded by the scandals and shadows of politics. Now that she’s landed an internship with a powerful political consulting firm, she’s determined to launch her career and take this city by storm.

William Andrew Clayton was born for politics. He knows the drill: work hard, play discreetly, and at all costs, avoid scandal. At twenty-six, his campaign for the Virginia State Senate is the first step to cementing his future. It’s time for him to settle down, to find the perfect political spouse. He needs a Jackie Kennedy, not a Marilyn…

When Jackie meets Will in the bar of the Hay-Adams Hotel, sparks fly. But the last thing Will needs is to be caught in a compromising position, and an affair with a political candidate could cost Jackie her career. When what began as one steamy night, becomes a passion neither one of them can walk way from, they must decide if what they have is really love, or just another dirty little secret…

My Review

“He called this romance; I called it the scariest fucking thing that ever happened to me. He should have come with a warning label–Caution: Seems harmless, will turn your life upside down until you don’t know which was is up.”

I love, love, loved this book! What a great read! This is my first book by author Chanel Cleeton and it won’t be my last!

Flirting With Scandal had a very intriguing plot. I loved how this story mixed politics and romance. I was hooked on Jackie and Will from the moment their characters were introduced. Their chemistry was instant and scorching. The sexual tension between the two of them was so palpable. Jackie is smart, independent and strong. She doesn’t want to let her past or who her family is, dictate her life. Will….he really took me by surprise. At first, I saw him as the preppy, rich, political type. However, there was so much more behind Will. Jackie brought out this whole other side to him. With Jackie, he became this hot, dirty mouthed, takes what he wants, Alpha male and I couldn’t get enough of it.

Flirting With Scandal is told from dual points of view. It is a smart, fun, sexy read. It was well-written and I couldn’t read the pages fast enough. I was completely captivated. This book was such a breath of fresh air for me. It had all the elements I look for in a good read and more: Sex, Drama, Angst, and Romance. The Politics and “Forbidden Romance” was an excellent bonus. I think the Capital Confessions series is off to a really great start. I can’t wait to see what the next book will bring!

Book Review: Natural Love by S. Celi

My whole life, I wanted one thing: to be the perfect son.

Growing up, I did everything my father required. Straight A’s in school. Perfect manners. I forced myself to live up to his standards–standards that pushed the Chadwick family name to the highest rungs of society.

Over the years, we climbed so high that my father hoped we’d never fall.

If only he’d been right. With each successful year, the Chadwick family skeletons grew bolder and darker. Every lie threatened to undo us.

The secret Avery Jackson and I shared was the worst one of all.

She was the one person I shouldn’t love–the one person I couldn’t love. But I did. I loved Avery Jackson. I wanted her, even though a romance with her threatened everything.

It all felt so natural.

And that was exactly the problem

My Review

Natural Love follows the story of Avery and Spencer. Spencer has just returned home after being away with the Peace Corps for the last two years. He has always tried to live his life to perfection in order to please his father, but no matter what he does, he will always be seen as the screw-up.

“Life as a Chadwick had three permanent rules. First, don’t embarrass the family. Second, don’t embarrass the family. Third don’t embarrass the family.”

Now, that Spencer has come home, he is ready to take his place in the family business. But one person stands in the way of him being the perfect son. That person is Avery Jackson. She is the one person that he loves, but is the one person that he can never have. Starting anything with her, will have the power to ruin everything….

Forgive me in advance if my review is a little vague. I’m going to try very hard to keep this review spolier free. Normally, I’m not the biggest fan of taboo/forbidden romances, but the synopsis pulled me in and I knew I had to find out more. I was so curious as to why Spencer and Avery’s relationship was considered taboo.

Natural Love is an intense and captivating story about two people who fell in love with the wrong person. They had to tell so many secrets to be in a relationship that felt so natural to them. Their decision to be together was not an easy one. Even though they both had feelings for each other for a long time, they tried so hard to deny it. But their attraction to one another would not be stifled and they eventually gave in to their desires.

“We were on a collision course with destiny and if we weren’t careful, the fragile life we led would explode”

I really enjoyed the first half of the story: learning about how Spencer and Avery were connected and watching them deny their attraction to one another. I also really enjoyed that this story was told completley from the male pov. However, as the story progressed, it started to become very predictable for me and felt rushed. I enjoyed discovering the secrets that the family was hiding and the secret that the author kept alluding to regarding Avery. However, I would have liked to have seen more drama once their romance was discovered. Yes, people did get upset about their relationship, but I would have liked to have seen that developed a little more. I mean, this was no small secret

Overall, I thought that Natural Love was an ok story. It was a quick and easy read for me. The premise was very interesting, but as I stated before, the story did feel like it was rushed at times. Natural Love was a little out of my normal realm of books that I read, so maybe that’s why it didn’t quite work out for me.
