Review: Chasing Hayleigh (The Fae Guard #3) by Elle Christensen

I know nothing of love.
Then again, I don’t know much about people
I’ve been burned enough to have lost my faith in them
Brannon seems to be an exception
For years, he has proved that I could trust him
But my past would surely drive him away
The question is, can he trust me?

Hayleigh is not my fate
But, she is my destiny
I need to convince her to trust me, to believe in us
For years I’ve stood back, and given her time
Now I need her to light the dark that is slowly consuming me
I want to tell her all of my secrets
The question is, will she survive them?

*Part of a series, while it can be read as a standalone, the story continues to build through the following books are are best read in order.

My Review

“They say when you meet the one you’re fated with, there is a rush of power, a feeling of strength and endurance which disappears the moment you are no longer in their presence. They say you can feel your souls fuse together, a connection that is almost unbreakable.”

What a fabulous read! Chasing Hayleigh is by far my favorite book in this series so far. I’ve been curious about Hayleigh and Brannon for quite some time now, and boy did their story knock my socks off. From the moment I started reading, I was sucked into Hayleigh and Brannon’s story. Their connection was instant, curious and undeniable. On the surface, Hayleigh longs for more. She wants to be happy, in love, have a family. But those things have never been in the cards for her. Hayleigh is holding on to a secret. A secret that has always kept her alone and unwilling to take a chance on more…Brannon….there is so much more to him than meets the eye. He always seems to be the funny guy, but really, he has a darkness that lives inside of him, and he can’t help but be drawn to the light that is Hayleigh. One thing we learn about Brannon pretty quickly is that he is 110% alpha male. He’s got his eyes and heart set and Hayleigh and nothing is going to stop him from getting what he wants.“You’re mine, only ever mine–no one but me. Baby, you have no idea what that does to me.”  Brannon is so sure that he and Hayleigh are meant to be and made it his mission to show her just how right they can be together. He forced her to see that there were no real reasons for them to deny what they both wanted.

Chasing Hayleigh gave me everything that I was looking for and more. It was fast paced and well written. The characters were easy to connect with. Their banter was fun and entertaining. I loved getting to see my old friends from the previous stories and seeing how they all come together. Chasing Hayleigh had no shortage of laugh out loud moments, sexy times and of course we can’t forget about the action. I definitely feel like I have a better understanding of the series as a whole now and the real role that “fate” plays into everything. I loved all the twists along the way and couldn’t have asked for a better ending to Hayleigh and Brannon’s story. Not only did the ending leave me with a smile on my face, but then I get to the epilogue……The epilogue pulled the rug out from under me. It has me asking so many questions!! I couldn’t believe what I was reading! All I can say is that the stage is set for the next characters story and I for one will be waiting very impatiently to get my hand on the next story.

Review: Loving Ean by Elle Christensen

Posted on

All of my life, I dreamt of my own fairy tale romance.
Imagine my surprise when I discovered that my soul mate was a lifelong friend.
Ean is everything I want and everything I need.
But, my romance has become a fractured fairy tale.
Ean has pulled away and let his pain engulf him, leaving no room for me.
I want to heal him and bring him back to me.
But, if he won’t let me, I will move on.
I will find another destiny.

Laila is the best part of me, the light in my soul.
She is my destiny.
I want to give her all that I am, all that I have.
But, the guilt and pain from my mistake has ruined me
I am not worthy of her and I will not drag her down into my Hell.
My love for her is forever.
But, she deserves some one who isn’t broken
So, I’ll watch her walk away, into the arms of another.

My Review

“I can’t stop hoping that he’ll wake up and realize that he is worth it. That we are worth it. We are our best together, our souls are meant to be one.”

Loving Ean is the second book in The Fae Guard series by Elle Christensen and is Ean and Laila’s story. Laila has wanted nothing more in life than to be fated to someone and find real love. No one is more surprised than her, when she finds that she is fated to her best friend, Ean. From the moment Ean realized the two of them were fated, he has done nothing but push Laila away. Laila wants nothing more than to prove to Ean that they belong together, but he fights her at every turn. There is only so much one person can take…. Ean wants nothing more than to be the man that Laila wants and needs. But, a past mistake is holding him back, leaving him feeling unworthy of having such a wonderful person in his life. Ean feels that Laila deserves something more, something better and is too blind to see what’s right in front of him. Will Ean come to his senses before it’s too late?

I really enjoyed Loving Ean. Once I stared reading this book, I couldn’t put it down. It was filled with so much angst and romance. It was just the read that I needed.  I loved the connection between Ean and Laila. Their feelings towards one another were so undeniable. There was so much push and pull. I just couldn’t get enough.

Ean frustrated me so much. He was a stubborn, stubborn man. He was blinded by the things that he thought should be happening and refused to see the reality of the situation. And Ean is a total alpha male. His mind might be telling him that Laila deserved someone better, however his body didn’t get the memo. He wanted to claim her and make it known that she was his, every time they were together. It was quite enjoyable to watch!!

I felt so bad for Laila. All she wanted was this great love and thought that she had finally found it. She thought that if she could be there for Ean and give him what he needed, that he would see how right they were together. When she loved, she loved hard. She wasn’t one to give up on those who mattered to her.

Loving Ean was a quick and enjoyable read for me. I loved spending more time in the world that Elle Christensen has created. Her characters are fun and entertaining. There’s lots of angst, romance and frustrating moments. As well as funny and steamy moments. All in all, a great paranormal read!

Recommendations – Fantasy, Urban Fantasy & Paranormal

Urban Fantasy is one of our absolute top genres. It’s always so exciting and FUN! Below are some of our faves. Feel free to share yours with us too! We love finding more UF to read.

Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning

Both my BBH (Better Blogging Half) and I absolutely loved this series. It’s set in Dublin among the Fae (seelie and unseelie), humans, and other random supernaturals. We follow heroine Mac as she tries to discover who (or what) killed her sister. Mac is a total toughie, you will adore her and our hero – Jerricho Barrons. Dangerous and smoking hot. Sigh. Need I say more?

Jane True Series by Nicole Peeler

Jane will forever have a special place in my heart.  It was Jane that elevated my BBH and I from best buds to ultimate soul mates. Well Jane, food and diet coke. Anyway, the point is WE LOVE JANE! Set in small town America (to start with) Jane discovers she is half selkie and from there things take a turn for the crazy. This series follows Jane and her friends as they try to right the wrongs in their world and save their people. There are some truly creepy characters (Graeme and the harpies – ick), and some truly awesome ones (pretty much everyone on Team Jane).

Kate Daniels Series by Ilona Andrews

Kate Daniels is a badass. Born to an evil God of a father and raised on the run by his head assassin, she has been taught from the day she was born that her job is to eventually take down her father.  In the meantime, she pretty much spends all her time kicking ass and taking names. This series is set in a post-apocalyptic world, where the technology overloaded and magic fought back. Survival is really based on luck of the draw and whether the technology is running things on the day or the magic. A big part of this story is Kate’s budding romance with the Lord of the Beasts, Curran. Their chemistry is out of this world  – definitely worth reading!

The Fae Chronicles by Amelia Hutchins

BBH and I actually disagree on this one. Not hugely but the main problem for us in this series is the sheer amount of smut kind of brings down what would be a really good story. I read it anyway because I love the fae, but it was too much for BBH. Understandably. However a lot of people get into that stuff (reow!) so if that’s you then you will love this series even more. It’s basically a story about a girl, Synthia, whose been brought up to believe she’s one thing only to discover that her entire world is not as it seems, and she is not at all who she thought she was. There are SO many twists and turns in these books. Everyone deceives everyone else, which is kind of amazing since the fae technically can’t lie in this world. But they do manage to twist the truth to suit themselves when ever they like and really, you would expect nothing less from the fae.

Charley Davidson Series by Darynda Jones

Charley is who I wish I could be when I’m having an argument with someone. You know how often you won’t think of the prefect retort until you have walked away? Or have been walked away from, as the case may be. She’s so quick witted it’s ridiculous. I even, on occasion, found myself having to read a line twice to pick up the joke. Charley Davidson is the Grim Reaper. She uses this to her advantage by having her own private detective business. She runs around solving crimes all over the show and often gets herself into dire situations. Chuck in Reyes Farrow, insanely hot and broody Son of Satan, and it’s a good time all around really.

The Forever Evermore Series by Scarlett Dawn

King Hall — where the Mysticals go to learn their craft, get their degrees, and transition into adulthood. And where four new Rulers will rise and meet their destinies. A Shifter Queen, Vampire King, Mage Queen and an Elemental King all come together to make for a crazy and interesting world. I couldn’t put this series down!

The Forged by Magic Series by S. L. Gavyn

Don’t be put off by the cover of the first book in this series, Brimstone. It’s a little odd, even for Urban fantasy but this series is awesome. We follow heroine, Genivieve Belaveau, as she fights her way through an exciting world packed filled with fey, vampires, elves and shifters, to name a few. This series has the perfect combination of both romance and action and Vieve is a heroine everyone will love!

The Malediction Trilogy by Danielle L. Jensen

So far only the first book in this series is out, Stolen Songbird. It was a great start to this fantasy series and the world the books are based in is both engaged and fascinating with the primary creatures being trolls (at this stage). I can’t wait for the next installment in this series!
