Review: Moonlight Sins (de Vincent #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout delivers the unforgettable story of a woman whose new life has just begun—but may end in murder . . .

Julia Hughes has always played it safe until she learned a very painful lesson. Now Julia’s starting over with a job in the Louisiana bayou—and a scorching encounter with a stranger, only to discover he’s Lucian de Vincent . . . her new employer. The de Vincent brothers share a massive fortune and a dark reputation. Julia cares for their troubled sister, but a menacing presence in the mansion—and the ever-present
temptation of Lucian—prove dangerously distracting.

Lucian’s grandmother claimed de Vincent men fall in love once—and hard. Apparently, it’s Lucian’s turn. Julia’s compassionate care of his twin makes Lucian want to lay himself bare. But some secrets are better for Julia not to know.

The recent “suicide” of Lucian’s father is the latest in a string of deaths on the estate. Someone is eliminating the de Vincents. And the best way to get to Lucian may be through Julia. . . .

My Review

“How can you be here and be the most beautiful creature I’ve ever seen?”

“She just needed to live a little. Plunge into whatever dark promises those sea-blue eyes of his offered.”

“I’m as broken as they come, but I don’t need to be fixed. I don’t want to be fixed.” “I like all my fucked-up shards and pieces. They make me who I am. They make me real.” The question is, can you handle real?”

“It’s in the way someone carries themselves. It’s etched into every minute line of the face and in the shadows of their eyes. It still leaves its mark.”

Moonlight Sins is the first book in an intoxicating and thrilling new series from Jennifer L. Armentrout. This story is sexy. It is dark. It is mysterious. You will be swept up in this story and completely unable to put it down. You will have so many questions and very few answers. All leading up to one very thrilling ride.

Told from dual points of view, Moonlight Sins follows the story of Julia and Lucian. Their story starts off with a bang and immediately draws you in. I was utterly captivated and was dying to know more. I was so intrigued and couldn’t wait to see where their story would go. I loved the chemistry and slow burn between Julia and Lucian. Their push and pull was so enticing and just had me begging for more.

And then there was the mystery and intrigue. Oh, my goodness! I just loved it. I had so many questions and not nearly enough answers. I wasn’t sure who to trust or what anyone’s true agenda was. I had a hunger for the truth and couldn’t wait for it all to be revealed. I have to say, I had my suspicions and was thrilled to see that my thoughts were going in the right direction. I really enjoyed seeing how this story was laid out and how it was unraveling. I absolutely loved the mystery and the air of danger that surrounded the story-line.

Moonlight Sins kicks off the De Vincent Series with one heck of a bang. I enjoyed every moment of this story from beginning to end and am super excited to see where this series is going to go next.

My Review

Blush for Me is the third installment in the Fusion Series and follows the story of Mac and Kat. For wine bar manager, Kat, there isn’t much that scares her. Between her strong and impressive IQ and devotion to her friends and job, she is a total no-nonsense type of gal. But when Kat finds herself on a flight for a wine tour, she quickly discovers that there is one thing that could bring her to her knees….Flying. As luck would have it though, she was graced with the best possible flight mate, Mac. He calms her down and gives her the strength she needs to make it through the flight. Before they know it, the flight is over, leaving them parting ways…Of course, fate had other plans for these two. When they find themselves on the same wine tour, they spend an unforgettable, no strings attached week together. Their connection is intense and undeniable. Neither one of them can get the other out of their heads and when fate decides to intervene one more time, Mac and Kat can’t stay away from one another leaving them with no other option but to see where their amazing chemistry will take them….

Overall, I think Blush for Me is a wonderful addition to the Fusion Series. This story is incredibly well written and entertaining. The characters are a lot of fun and they just feel like you’ve known them forever. You can’t help but fall for them the moment you meet them and just see where the story is going to go. I loved spending time with Kat and her friends. They are the type of girlfriends that any woman would be lucky to have in their life. And of course, I loved Kat and Mac. Their chemistry was solid and strong. They were the perfect balance and I just couldn’t get enough of the pull between the two of them.

Blush for Me was a fabulous read, from beginning to end. The story was captivating and filled with the sexy and sweet romance that I have come to love from this author. It was perfectly balanced with a little bit of suspense and mystery along the way. Blush for Me gave me everything that I was looking for and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in this series!

“You look like you’re feeling better.”

Mac. That’s Mac’s voice in my ear. A shiver runs through me as I turn around and look up, way up, into his green eyes.

“I am,” I reply and take a sip of my wine. Was he that good looking on the plane? “I didn’t realize you were attending this conference.”

“You had other things on your mind earlier,” he says smoothly and motions for the bartender. “I’ll have what she’s having, and another for her as well.”

“What if you don’t like pinot?” I ask and tilt my head to the side.

“I like it all,” he says with a wink.

                Oh my.

“Do you know many people here?” he asks, nodding toward Sally who has moved on to chat with another group of people.

“A few. I’ve not met most of them in person, unless they were up in Washington or Oregon. How about you?”

“Same,” he says with a grin. “This is my first conference down in Napa Valley. And it’s off to a great start.”

“Right.” I laugh and shake my head. “Dealing with a crazy chick on the plane is exactly the best way to start your trip.”

“It is,” he says and looks me dead in the eye. “She wasn’t that crazy. She was scared. There’s a difference.”

                “Well, she’s fine now.”

“I’m glad.” His lips tip up into a smile and my stomach clenches. He has a dimple in his left cheek.

                I want to lick it.

I take a sip of my fresh glass of wine and smirk to myself. Perhaps Mac fits the sexcation bill.

“What just went through that gorgeous head of yours?”

“I’m not drunk enough to tell you yet,” I reply honestly. Mac’s eyes widen briefly, and then he simply smiles at me.

“There’s a lot of wine in this place.”

                “Thank God for that.”

A few hours later, after chatting with many people, new and those I already know, including Mac, he escorts me up to my room.

But when we reach my door, he leans in and kisses my cheek. Just the cheek. I frown up at him.

“This is supposed to be a sexcation, not a fucking dating game.” It’s a grumble, but I’m shocked to hear it actually leave my lips, rather than stay in my head where it’s supposed to be.

                “A what?” Mac asks.

“Nothing.” I shake my head and pull my key card out of my handbag. “Good night.”

“Yeah.” I look back at him and sigh a little at the sexy dimple in his cheek and the way his shirt pulls against his shoulders as he leans on the doorframe.

“I’ll see you in the morning.”

“It’s already morning,” I remind him.

“It won’t be too long, then.”

Review: Accidentally on Purpose (Heartbreaker Bay #3) by Jill Shalvis

There’s no such thing as a little in love…

Elle Wheaten’s priorities: friends, career, and kick-ass shoes. Then there’s the muscular wall of stubbornness that’s security expert Archer Hunt—who comes before everything else. No point in telling Mr. “Feels-Free Zone” that, though. Elle will just see other men until she gets over Archer . . . which should only take a lifetime . . .

There’s no such thing as a little in lust…

Archer’s wanted the best for Elle ever since he sacrificed his law-enforcement career to save her. But now that she’s earned happiness and success, Archer just wants Elle 24/7. Their chemistry could start the next San Francisco Earthquake, and Archer doesn’t want to be responsible for the damage. The alternative? Watch her go out with guys who aren’t him . . .

There is such a thing as…

As far as Archer’s concerned, nobody is good enough for Elle. But when he sets out to prove it by sabotaging her dates, she gets mad—and things get hot as hell. Now Archer has a new mission: prove to Elle that her perfect man has been here all along…

My Review

“Once in a while, he said something so profound she forgot she wanted to kill him the rest of the time.”

Accidentally on Purpose was a fun and entertaining read. I fell for Archer and Elle instantly. The chemistry between the two of them was undeniable, even though they both tried. A connection like theirs was unstoppable and it was only a matter of time before the two of them would explode into something with potential for greatness.

As someone who is still pretty new to this authors writing, I still can’t believe how much I have been missing out on. The characters in these stories are absolutely refreshing. Their banter is so enjoyable to watch. It’s kinda like watching your favorite tv show. You can’t look away and you’re dying to see what happens next. I love the romance between our two main characters. The feelings and emotions these two had was deep and intense. I loved their push and pull. And even though their will they, won’t they moments frustrated me at times, I couldn’t get enough.

Accidentally on Purpose is the perfect read to get lost in. It’s captivating and entertaining. It will have you laughing one minute and frustrated the very next. This story is sexy and filled with lots of delicious tension. There is even a little drama and mystery along the way. I’ve fallen hard and fast for this series and can not wait to see where it will go next!

Review: I See You by Molly McAdams

Futures are uncertain, unpredictable—like ink spilled across the purest surface. Nearly imperceptible ripples move and flow until a unique stain is formed. The ink is permanently imbedded in the surface…

During one wild night in college, Jentry Michaels is a tidal wave of ink that brands Aurora Wilde’s soul. An unparalleled stain she can’t forget despite the many months that have passed—and despite the distraction she’d hoped she would find in her new relationship with Declan, the charmer who captured her heart soon after. Jentry has irrevocably touched her soul, and he is intertwined in her present and future in ways she never fathomed. Now Aurora is faced with keeping that night hidden though it feels as if the ink has indelibly etched their story across her skin.

When Declan is confronted with his own personal demons, Aurora must decide if she will continue to hold tight to their relationship and a safe, reliable future with him, or if she will turn to Jentry—the guy she can’t forget no matter how hard she tries.…

My Review

“Jentry was a weakness. An addiction. One my body and soul would never be able to get enough of, but one I would have to fight against in the coming weeks and months…who knew how long. Because no matter how much we needed each other, needed this, there were other things far more important than us that needed to be addressed and cared for first.”

“I tried to forget that night…I tried to forget you, but somehow you embedded yourself so deeply into my soul that in just one night, that forgetting you–forgetting that night–was impossible. I don’t need a lifetime with you to know that no one and nothing will ever compare to what’s between us.”

“She was light and I was dark. She was bliss and I was man dying. Need was too weak of a word to describe what was coursing through me.”

I See You is a beautifully written and captivating story. As someone who is honestly not a fan of love triangles, I will be the first to admit that I try to steer clear of them when it’s possible. But, there is just something about Molly McAdams writing that makes me want to read her stories. I know her stories are going to be tough. I know they are going to pull at my heart and send my emotions flying all over the place. Knowing all that, I still can’t help myself from picking up and devouring her books.

I See You is told from multiple points of view and is a stand-alone read. Jentry and Aurora meet by chance and spend an amazing night together. A night that many would forget, but seared itself into their souls. Aurora couldn’t forget about Jentry, but didn’t know his name. And when she decides to go searching for her mystery man, she finds Declan instead. Declan was everything that Aurora could ever want and need. He was perfection and stole her heart….That is until fate had other plans and Jentry blew into town with a twist that no one ever saw coming…..

I See You is one of those stories that just pulls at your heart and makes it impossible to choose sides. It is a story about love; the different types of love. It is a story about fate and circumstance. It is a story of soulmates and a love that will never die. Aurora, Jentry and Declan’s story is in no way an easy one. It is filled with lots of emotion, frustration, family drama, love and heartache. Their story will have twists and turns that you won’t see coming. You will be on the edge of your seat, wondering how it will all play out in the end….Molly McAdams, you have written another beautiful story and I can not wait to see what journey you take my poor heart on next.

My Review

The Trouble With Mistletoe was such a fun read for me. This is my first book by this author and I can promise you, it will not be my last.

As soon as I picked up this book and started reading, I realized that I have been missing out. I mean truly missing out. This story was incredibly well written. I could not put it down. I fell in love with Keane and Willa right away. You see, Willa is the kind of girl you can’t help but want to be friends with. She’s had a tough life, and really thinks about those she lets get close. When she lets you in, you’d be stupid to mess things up. So, not only is Willa an amazing friend, but she’s strong and super independent. Keane is guy that every girl wants. He’s sexy and charming. He can’t help but find himself addicted to Willa and will do anything to make her see that he’s not the same dumb boy from high school….

The Trouble With Mistletoe was a fantastic read. It was funny and entertaining. It was hard to put down and was a book that I easily devoured in one sitting. The characters were fun and easy to connect with. I loved the people that Willa surrounded herself with. You couldn’t help but want to know more about all of them. I adored Willa and Keane together. Their banter was fun and engaging. They played off one another so well and I loved their push and pull. I enjoyed the alpha side of Keane and enjoyed watching him fall for Willa. Keane and Willa had some amazing chemistry. I loved watching their relationship grow and the anticipation of how things would turn out for them.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was a lot of fun and just so easy to read. It had just the right amount of humor and romance. There was some angst and drama, but for the most part, it was pretty light. There was a little bit of heavy subject matter, but it was handled well and like I said, it was pretty light; not over the top in any way. As far as romance goes, the romance between Willa and Keane was fantastic. It was sweet, swoon-worthy and had just the right amount of steam.

I enjoyed every minute of this book and can not wait to read more from this author!

Review: Bedmates (An American Royalty #1) by Nichole Chase

Posted on

From the bestselling author of Suddenly Royal comes the first in a sparkling new series about America’s favorite royal—the First Daughter.

Everyone makes mistakes, especially in college. But when you’re the daughter of the President of the United States, any little slip up is a huge embarrassment. Maddie McGuire’s latest error in judgment lands her in police custody, giving the press a field day. Agreeing to do community service as penance and to restore her tattered reputation, Maddie never dreams incredibly good looking but extremely annoying vice president’s son, Jake Simmon, will be along for the ride.

Recently returning from Afghanistan with a life-altering injury, Jake is wrestling with his own demons. He doesn’t have the time or patience to deal with the likes of Maddie. They’re like oil and water and every time they’re together, it’s combustible. But there’s a thin line between love and hate, and it’s not long before their fiery arguments give way to infinitely sexier encounters.

When Jake receives devastating news about the last remaining member of his unit, the darkness he’s resisted for so long begins to overwhelm him. Scared to let anyone close, he pushes Maddie away. But she isn’t about to give up on Jake that easily. Maddie’s fallen for him, and she’ll do anything to keep him from the edge as they both discover that love is a battlefield and there are some fights you just can’t lose.

My Review

When I picked up this book, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I’ve never read anything by this author before, but I have heard so many great things about this particular book, that I just knew I had to pick it up. And let me tell you, I am so glad I did. Bedmates was so refreshing and took me by surprise. From the moment I picked up this book, I feel in love. Maddie is the girl that is easy to relate to. Although she’s the president’s daughter, she isn’t afraid to stand up for what she believes in. She makes mistakes like everyone else and just because she’s the president’s daughter, that doesn’t make her exempt from consequences….And Jake…Well, there’s more to Jake than meets the eye. His time in the military has left some pretty deep scars. He always strives to do the right thing, even if he doesn’t agree with it. Maddie and Jake may seem like an unlikely pair, but these two are better matched than anyone ever expected.

Overall, I found this book to be a very enjoyable read. I love enemies to lovers romances and I have to tell you, this one does not disappoint. Jake and Maddie’s story is filled with angst, sweet romance and just the right amount of steam. This book was so much more than I was expecting. My Review

“I get lost in you.” “But it’s the kind of lost that’s like being found.”

“I love you.” And there it is. every time she says those words, it’s as if my world is kicked off its axis and I have to catch my breath. I am one lucky son of a bitch.”

Kristen Proby is one of my go-to, automatic one-click authors. No one and I mean no one delivers sexy, swoon worthy romance quite like Kristen Proby. When you pick up one of her books, you know you are going to get an amazing read that is going to give you all the feels.

Close to You is the second book in the Fusion Series, but can totally be read as a stand-alone. Close to You is Cami and Landon’s story and is told from dual points of view. Cami has been in love with Landon for as long as she can remember, but nothing has ever come of it. Now, years later, Kate is not only a successful business woman, but also single again. Her life is exactly what she wants….that is until Landon blows back into town. Landon has always had a thing for Cami but never acted on it because she was younger than him. Now Landon has returned home and once he sees Cami again, all bets are off. They’re both grown up and nothing is going to stand in the way of making Cami his…..

I have to say, I really loved this book. It gave me sooo many feels and exceeded my expectations. Close to You is going to pull you in from the very first page and hold your heart hostage. This is a fantastic friends to lovers romance. The characters are a lot of fun and so easy to love and connect with. This story is one that is going to make you laugh, put some tears in your eyes, swoon and of course fall in love. There is some angst, but for the most part, it is just a light, romantic read.

Close to You was an enjoyable read from start to finish. This book was easily devoured in one sitting and gave me all the feels. I loved that this book was a bit more romantic and swoon worthy than Kristen Proby’s other books, but at the same time still gives you the sexy alpha male and steamy moments.  And in the end, this book not only left me with a smile on my face, but has me super excited to get my hands on the next book in the Fusion Series.

“Are you packed?” my sister, Mia, asks through the phone. Her voice is husky with sleep, which makes sense since it’s the middle of the night back home in Portland, Oregon.

“I leave tomorrow, Mia. Of course I’m not packed.” She snickers. I just finished up my last debriefing meeting, my last day as an officer in the Navy. I grip the zipper of my flight uniform and sigh. “It’s not right.”

“I know,” she says quietly. “But you’re safe and whole, and you could be dead, Landon, so I’ll take it.”

I frown, staring at myself in the mirror as I unzip my uniform for the last time. I’ll never wear it again, never pilot a plane again.

What the fuck am I supposed to do now? The Navy gave me options, but if I can’t fly, there’s no sense in it. Flying isn’t just what I do, it’s who I am.

“You’re overthinking,” Mia says.

“I’m a pilot, Mia. This is what I love. It wasn’t supposed to end like this.”

“You’re alive,” she says.

“Am I?” I murmur, then shake my head and wince at the neck pain that still nags me from time to time. Ejecting from an F- 16 will cause a crick in the neck. And a loss of an inch in height that may never return, along with an entire Naval career.

Son of a bitch.

“This has been the longest four months of our lives, Landon. We’re all anxious to see you.”

“I’ll be home in a few days,” I reply as I pull a T- shirt over my head and throw the last of my belongings in a box that the Navy will have sent to me from Italy.

I loved being in Italy for the past few years, and God knows I didn’t plan to leave it like this.

But I am. Maybe Mia’s right; at least I’m alive and I can walk and live a normal life.

I just can’t fly.

And that’s what hurts more than any injury from the crash.

“What time should I come get you from the airport?”

“No need,” I reply, regretting calling my sister and waking her up. I just didn’t know what else to do when I came in here and was faced with boxes and the end of a career I love. “I’ll get there.”

“Landon— ”

“It’s okay, really. I’ll see you in a few days.”

“Be safe,” she says. “And, Landon?”

“It’s going to be okay.”

I force a grin and a nod, though she can’t see either. “Of course it is.”

We say our good- byes and I sit on the edge of the bed, scrub my hands over my face, and take a deep breath. I hope she’s right.

Review: Listen To Me (Fusion #1) by Kristen Proby

n New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Proby’s brand new series, five best friends open a hot new restaurant, but one of them gets much more than she bargained for when a sexy former rock star walks through the doors—and into her heart.

Seduction is quickly becoming the hottest new restaurant in Portland, and Addison Wade is proud to claim 1/5 of the credit. She’s determined to make it a success and can’t think of a better way to bring in new customers than live music. But when former rock star Jake Keller swaggers through the doors to apply for the weekend gig, she knows she’s in trouble. Addie instantly recognizes him—his posters were plastered all over her bedroom walls in high school—he’s all bad boy…exactly her type and exactly what she doesn’t need.

Jake Keller walked away from the limelight five years ago and yearns to return to what’s always driven him: the music. If he gets to work for a smart-mouthed, funny-as-hell bombshell, all the better. But talking Addie into giving him the job is far easier than persuading her that he wants more than a romp in her bed. Just when she begins to drop her walls, Jake’s past finally catches up with him.

Will Addie be torn apart once again or will Jake be able to convince her to drown out her doubts and listen to her heart?

My Review

“I’m so tired of hurting. I’m so tired of being thrown away as if I’m nothing.”

As a big fan of Kristen Proby’s, I get super giddy when I find out that she’s writing something new. So, when I heard about her new series, Fusion, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. And let me tell you, Kristen Proby has knocked it out of the park with this one.

Told from dual points of view, Listen to Me follows the story of Jake and Addie. Addie has had a lot of disappointments in her life. From her family doing their own thing, to having the worst possible taste in men. All she has wanted was to find love and happiness. And when her most recent relationship ends up in disaster, she decides that she’s going to swear off men. Too bad Jake is about to come and ruin all of her plans…..Jake used to have it all. Rich. Famous. Musician. But, when a tragedy strikes, it puts fear into him and makes him change his life’s direction. He’s still making music, but he’s not performing anymore. He misses it. He loves what he’s doing, but he feels like he’s missing out. So, when his friend tells him that a hot new restaurant in town in looking for a weekend musician, Jake feels like this is the chance he was looking for. What he didn’t plan on was Addie. Addie is the definition of temptation and he wants nothing more than to get under her skin. But, the more time he spends with her, the more he realizes he wants more than sex. For the first time ever, Jake wants more. Only Addie has been hurt a lot and is afraid to put her heart on the line. Will Addie follow her heart and give Jake a chance? There’s only one way to find out. You’re just going to have to read for yourself to see…..

Listen to Me is a fantastic read, from start to finish. The story-line was fun and refreshing. From the moment you meet Addie and her close knit group of girlfriends, you want to know more about them. They’re young, fun and the best friends anyone could ask for. One of the things I loved about Addie was that she was strong and independent. She’s been dealt some pretty crappy cards in her life, but she tries so hard to not let it get her down. And she is the absolute best friend anyone could ask for. She is loyal and when you have her love, she loves fiercely. She is just what Jake needed in his life. Addie reminded Jake what it was like to laugh and have fun and to live. She essentially brought him back to life. And Jake…Boy did I ever love Jake. This guy is not only a hot musician, but is swoon-worthy with just the right amount of alpha. I loved how he was with Addie. He didn’t let her stubbornness push him away and he wasn’t afraid to go after what he wanted. He showed Addie that is was ok to love and let someone into your heart. I absolutely loved Addie and Jake together. They balanced each other perfectly and man, did they have some scorching chemistry.

Listen to Me gave me everything that I was looking for and more in a Kristen Proby read. It hooked me from the very first page and was easily devoured in one sitting. If you’re looking for an entertaining read with great friendships, romance, light drama, excellent chemistry and some well placed angst, than look no further. I definitely recommend checking this book out. This series is off to a terrific start and I can not wait to get my hands on more!

Review: To The Stars (Thatch #2) by Molly McAdams

In the second book in New York Times  and USA Today bestselling author Molly McAdams’ Thatch series, Knox Alexander must convince his long-time love Harlow Evans that they’re meant to be together.

He promised to wait for her.
She told him he was wasting his time.
Not waiting for him ended up being the biggest mistake of her life.

When they were younger, Knox Alexander swore to Harlow Evans that he would wait for her to turn eighteen so they could be together. But that was three and a half years away, and Harlow couldn’t ask him to give up all the fun and thrills of going away to college for her. As the years passed, Knox remained a constant in her life—whether she liked it or not—but when her eighteenth birthday came around, Harlow’s heart belonged to someone else.

Every day for the last four years, Harlow has been haunted by that fateful choice. And though he may appear unaffected by what happened in their past, Knox has always tried to fill the void Harlow left. But when he comes stumbling back into her life and refuses to leave, will Harlow finally let him into her heart…?

My Review

“Why would anyone waste their time only loving someone to the moon when they could love them to the stars?”

It’s been a long, long, long time since I’ve been brave enough to pick up a Molly McAdams book. The last series I was brave enough to read, totally destroyed me. She is the queen of angst and heartache. So, yeah, I was afraid to read this book…That being said, when I read the synopsis of To The Stars, I knew I was going to have to read this book. What I didn’t know was just how intense this book was going to be.

To The Stars is the second book in The Thatch series, but it can totally be read as a stand-alone. I’m not going to tell you very much because this is one of those books that desperately needs to be experienced. To The Stars is well written and captivating. It is told from dual pov and does alternate between the past and the present.

When I first picked up To The Stars, I was immediately pulled in by the prologue. I was desperate to know more and how Harlow found herself in her current situation. And the more I read, the more I realized I was not prepared for Harlow’s story. Harlow’s story is intense and heartbreaking. It will anger and frustrate you. It will make your heart ache. I will warn you that this story does deal very heavily with domestic abuse. Some of the scenes are downright intense and will leave you amazed by the strength that Harlow has. But, that’s not all there is to this story. Yes beneath all the ugliness and heartache, there is a light in the darkness. There is hope. There is love; a love that lasts a lifetime.

To The Stars was not an easy read for me. It was intense and really pulled at my heart. It took me on one heck of a journey and emotional roller-coaster ride. But, you know what, I am really glad that I took the leap and read this book.

Review: Best Worst Mistake (Brightwater #3) by Lia Riley

Sometimes the worst mistakes turn out to be the best…

Smoke jumper Wilder Kane once reveled in the rush from putting out dangerous wildfires. But after a tragic accident, he’s cut himself off from the world, refusing to leave his isolated cabin. When a headstrong beauty bursts in, Wilder finds himself craving the fire she ignites in him, but letting anyone near his darkness would be a mistake.

After her Hollywood life went up in smoke, Quinn Higsby decided to leave Tinseltown behind and return to Brightwater to care for her ailing father. She spends her days in a small bookstore, until her peaceful existence is up-ended by a fascinating but damaged man. Quinn is determined not to be scared off by Wilder, not once she’s experienced the heat of his passions.

But when an arsonist targets the community and Wilder is accused, he must confront the ghosts of his past. Will his desire for Quinn burn him up or will he be able to tame the wildness inside and rekindle a hope for their future?

My Review

“Now is the time to do what we want. Now is the time to live. Now is our time.”

Best Worst Mistake is the third book in the Brightwater series, but can be read as a standalone. One of the first things that drew me into the story was the cover. The snowy background totally got me and had me wanting to know more about this story.

Best Worst Mistake follows the story of Quinn and Wilder. Wilder loved his life as a smoke jumper. Nothing made him happier. That is until one day, tragedy struck and turned his life upside down. After this accident, Wilder resigned himself to living the life of a hermit. His plan of isolation was going to plan until Quinn blew into his life. Quinn wasn’t at all afraid of Wilder’s bad attitude and need for isolation. She actually is very intrigued by Wilder. For the first time, someone actually wants to get to know Wilder, instead of just giving him pity. Wilder finds himself drawn to Quinn and for the first time, he’s wanting more. What will happen when life decides to throw a few more curve-balls at Quinn and Wilder? Will their relationship be strong enough to handle the burn?

Best Worst Mistake was a such a great read. It was well-written and captivating. It had a sort of Beauty and the Beast quality to it. Wilder’s life was forever changed after the smoke jumping accident. It turned him into a different man; a scarred and damaged man. He cut himself off from everyone and wanted to just be alone. I was so intrigued by him and wanted to see this damaged man find some happiness. Quinn was such a great match for him. She wasn’t looking for love or expecting to find Wilder. But, once the two of them met, she found herself wanting to know more about this damaged, brooding man. She began seeing him for the man that he was; the man that he tried to hide from everyone else. She didn’t pity him or look at him with disgust. And even though it may not have been love at first sight, these two definitely fell in love from the moment they challenged each other.

I really enjoyed Best Worst Mistake. I loved the small-town romance and the damage alpha hero. This story was well paced and had the perfect balance of drama and romance. The characters are very like-able and the story-line is entertaining. This is probably one of my favorite books by Lia Riley to date and this story just goes to show you that sometimes, the things that you think are the worst mistake, turn out to be the very best mistake.
