Review: Biting Point by Azalea Amy Lezlynn

Posted on

bitingpointLEGEND. KING. LOVER. RACER.

Three-T rules the roads.

But this is no televised championship, with its own rules and regulations.

There are no pretty flags or set race tracks in these street races.

My lover races raw.

He races wild.

He races illegally.

He races like a God.

I began to believe such a man could never love a girl like me, but love me he does… all of me … and there are plenty of my fuller-plus-size figured curves to love.

Together we stand strong at the head of his exotic car racing dynasty, but there is darkness brewing.

As fate would have it, regrets collect like old friends ready to relive his most agonizing moments.
Dark secrets are awakened, whispering their threats of destruction.

Will they be enough to take us down?

The moment arises for him to decide who is more important.
Me or his brotherhood of racing league members?

This is where our legacy with the world’s fastest cars begins.

“We Ride Together … As One … ‘Til The End.”

My Review

“My mom always says deja vu is the universe’s way of marking a point in time, telling you that you are where you are meant to  be. You have reached a beacon of your destiny. And no matter what you have done in life, you can never run from destiny. All roads lead to the same destination. I know in this moment to trust those words and my mind flashes to the quote engraved on my bedroom wall. I’m meant to be here and this Griffin symbol is part of my destiny.”

Biting Point was a quick and easy read for me. It is Azalea Amy Lezlyn’s debut novel. This story is sexy, fun and entertaining. The story-line was fun and unique. The characters pulled me and made me want to know more about them. I loved Kaidence. I loved the confidence that she felt about herself and her size. Yes, she did have some issues with her looks at time, but nothing out of the ordinary or that you would find annoying. Titan was a lot of fun. He was sexy, protective and wasn’t afraid to go after what he wanted from Kaidence. From the moment he saw her, he knew he had to make her his and would stop at nothing until he got her. I loved how caring he was towards Kaidence and how he made her want to take a chance on him and a relationship. And mostly, I loved that he liked Kaidence for who she was and didn’t try to change her.

Overall, I thought this was an ok read. There were a few bumps along the way, but for the most part, I think this is a really great debut novel. I think the author has a lot of potential. I’m looking forward to reading more from her in the future.

Re-Cover Reveal: Twice Upon A Time (The Black Angel Series #1) by Hope Irving

Twice-upon-a-time_Alternate_2

Synopsis

Once upon a time, there was the wandering soul of Morgann, an 8th century Irish calligrapher-monk longing to be reunited with his soul mate. Deirdre was his forbidden love, a witch with whom he wrote a coveted book. Under her spell, the souls of the star-crossed lovers travel from bodies to bodies until they find each other. Eventually. That became his quest: unearth her new body and trigger her memory, for she is clueless about whom she once was. Unfortunately their story didn’t get a chance to become a fairy tale yet it still turned out as a famous urban legend referred as The Black Angel Book. Twice upon a time, not so long ago, there was me, rational and devastated Rose. I needed to get a grip, said my French mum after my year of numbness due to a painful break-up that led me to cut my wrist daily, to feel something, anything. So she sent me off to the free-spirited village of Provincetown, Massachusetts, to spend the summer with my American relatives. And just like that, I wasn’t myself any longer. Because someone pulled me out of the darkness and bewitched me, somehow. I couldn’t wait to jump his bones… but why was he holding back? He couldn’t wait to welcome me into his world… but was I ready to question my convictions and acknowledge that my self-inflicted cuts were now healing in record time? How could I have imagined he was longing for his own unorthodox fairytale to come true? Frantically.

EXCERPT

“Please, say something!” I felt his tension as he begged me then yelled bitterly at the door, “Coming…” I remained silent, unable to articulate a word, let alone a sentence, numb. Turning back to me, he asked, “Rose, are you okay?” I shook my head and shrugged, my eyes itchy, staring blankly at him. Of course I wasn’t okay. I didn’t want to face the others. I wanted to be with him. “Please, answer me…” His voice sweet. Another knock on the door, his rocky voice let out another angry yell combined with a curse. His tone changed back to sweet, addressing me. “Rose, please. I need to know if we’re good before I get that fucking door.” Oh, he was either mad—or worried?—because swearing wasn’t his thing. “We’re good,” I managed to say, getting out of my trance. Was I lying to him now?

My Review

“I am a soul that gained awareness of its existence; a wandering soul inhabiting various bodies throughout their mortal life.A soul longing to be reunited with its soulmate.”

“I am no longer Morgann. She is no longer Deidre. I love her. She’s my life. I am going to find her. She’ll be mine, once again.”

I am a big, big paranormal romance fan, so when I read the synopsis for this book, I just knew I had to check it out. And let me tell you, Twice Upon a Time is a really great debut novel. It pulls you in from the very first page, and has you wanting to know more. I found the story-line to be unique and captivating. The characters were interesting and had me wanting to know more about them. I was anxious to see if Morgann and Deidre’s souls were ever going to be reunited. I loved being in the present with Morgann and Deidre or as they are now called Virgil and Rose. I was on pins and needles, waiting to see if Rose’s soul was ever going to recognize Virgil for who he truly was.

Overall, I thought that Twice Upon a Time was a good read. I think it’s a great debut novel and that this series has a ton of potential. This story has lots of great mystery and romance. I will warn you that it does end on a bit of a cliffhanger and it’s a good one. I for one can not wait to get my hands on the next book and see what lies in store for these characters next.

Can two people who have been hurt and betrayed open their hearts up once more? Can both accept that all may have happened For a Reason?

My Review

For A Reason is an amazing debut novel and will take you on one crazy ride.

For A Reason is intriguing and well written. I absolutely adored Tristan. He’s just trying to make it through life, one day at a time. He blames himself for the loss of his best friend and has a major case of survivor guilt. The last thing he was expecting was Katelyn. Katelyn slowly forced her way into Tristan’s life and made him come alive again. However, everything isn’t as it seems. Katelyn is keeping a huge secret that has the power to destroy everything…

One of the things I loved the most about this book was trying to figure out what was going on. I knew that something wasn’t quiet adding up, but I didn’t really know what was going on. I was on the edge of my seat, trying to solve this riddle. I was no way expecting or prepared for the plot twist that was coming my way. To say it surprised me would be a complete understatement. The twist was utterly brilliant. I had a complete WTF moment.  And just when I’m finally accepting the twist that was thrown at me, I was once again, thrown another curve ball.

For A Reason was a really enjoyable read. I couldn’t read it fast enough and ended up finishing it in one sitting. This book was filled with mystery, suspense, drama and of course romance. The chemistry between Kate and Tristan was absolutely scorching; the two of them literally melting the pages.

T.N. Cole is definitely an author to watch out for and I’m really looking forward to reading more from her in the future!

I reached up and pushed Kate’s hair out of her face. It was pulled to one side, but it had long fallen out of the updo it was in when the sight of her first took my breath away tonight. I lightly traced my fingers over the bandage covering the right side of her forehead and I hovered over the outline of some of the bruises and scratches. I watched my fingers, and I felt her watching me—waiting for me to tell her something. I wanted so badly to trace her lips on my exploration of her face—to feel her breath on my fingertips. But, I forced myself to pull back. “Don’t look at me like that,” I finally whispered.

“Like what?” she frowned.

“Don’t look at me like I saved you. I’m the reason this happened to you. You’re looking at me like you’re so happy that I’m here. Those guys shouldn’t have slipped something in your drink, or whatever they did. If I were paying attention, they wouldn’t have almost made off with you. I did this to you, and don’t you fucking forget it.” I stopped to take a deep, shuddering breath and buried my face in my hands.

“Funny,” Kate said coldly as she leaned forward. “I didn’t peg you as the victim type.”

I reared back. “What?”
“You heard me,” she snapped. “I was the one who had something slipped in my drink. And apparently, I was the one who was almost kidnapped. But I wasn’t. Because you stopped them from taking me. You brought me here. I’m safe. So, quit the pity party on yourself.”

My hands had fallen from my face during her tirade to meet her now angry glare. I didn’t know if I was supposed to be madat what she was saying or not, but I didn’t have the time to figure it out because she wasn’t done yet. “Do you know how Aimee knew to go get you from the waiting room? I begged her to go get you because, somehow, I knew you would be there. I knew you were the one who saved me from whatever caused me to end up in the freaking hospital. So, none of this is your fault. Yes, we shouldn’t have separated, but that’s on both of us. But, it’s not my fault or your fault that some asshole roofied me, capisce?”

She was breathing heavily by the end of her rant. She slowly fell back against the pillows, closing her eyes. I watched her as she got her breathing under control, knowing I had to choose my next words carefully. I didn’t want to upset her more, and I knew that everything she said was true. “Hey. Kate.” I threaded my fingers through hers and waited until she slowly opened her eyes to peek at me. “You’re right. You’re absolutely right. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you more; it’s just… You were so gorgeous tonight. I wanted you to stay by me, but I couldn’t ask you for that. And all of a sudden, I couldn’t find you, and then you were almost kidnapped, and I couldn’t get you to open your eyes. I couldn’t see your beautiful brown eyes,” I was so quiet; I knew she had to be straining to hear me. I didn’t want her to know how helpless I had felt. How I felt like I had failed and lost all over again. And how my feelings for her were getting too intense and they were scaring me.

She tightened her grip on my hand. “I heard you, you know. Through the haze, you said ‘Katelyn, please’. And that’s how I knew something was wrong. So, I fought to wake up. You brought me back.”

I closed my eyes, fighting off the onslaught of emotion threatening to take over me. If only I had been able to save Mel like I was able to save Kate. I didn’t know what else to say. I was exhausted and I knew she had to be in even worse shape than I was. “You should get some rest, Kate. We can talk in the morning. I’ll be here. I’m not going to leave you.”
T.N. Cole spends her time seeking new adventures, determined to make her life a memorable story. A recent graduate with a bachelor in biology, T.N. is headed to graduate school at Texas Tech to pursue her long time dream of becoming a pharmacist. Review: Beach Wedding by Bella Cruise

beachwedding

Three weeks. One quirky small-town. The wedding of the year. What could go wrong?

Big-city wedding planner Ginny Austen has landed the job of a lifetime. Her new celebrity clients want a smash hit TV wedding, and they’ve got their hearts set on a quirky home-town wedding. Her home-town: Pelican Key Cove, Florida.

Ginny hasn’t been home since she high-tailed out of town the night before her high-school graduation with nothing but a vintage pink Camaro and a broken heart. She’s spent years building a life of her own, but now she’s got just three weeks to face her past and put together a dream wedding — in a town that makes ‘eccentric’ its middle name.

Ginny may be determined to stay professional, but the inhabitants of Pelican Cove have other ideas. And between her crazy aunts, a TV producer who puts Macciaveli to shame, and a downright sexy former flame, nothing about this wedding is going to plan. Can she pull off the big day with her sanity – and heart – intact? Or will her reputation go down in flames — on national TV?beachweddingteaser

My Review

“I can’t believe it. I thought this had been my second chance, that we’d mended the broken bridges of our past. I opened myself up again, I dared to dream I could have this love back in my life–build something real with him this time around. But Luke is looking at me like a stranger, as I’m someone he’s found in his bed the morning after a one-night stand who doesn’t understand the rules.”

What an absolutely amazing debut novel. Beach Wedding is a sweet and heartwarming read. It is a fantastic second chance romance that will leave you with a smile on your face and your heart swooning. The characters are real and easy to relate to. From the moment I opened this book, I couldn’t put it down. I just had to know more.

Luke and Ginny really took my heart on a roller-coaster ride. The two of them hurt so badly by past mistakes. And when they finally take that leap, they are once again struck with fears and worry that the past will again repeat itself. The two of them together had such great push and pull. I could really feel and understand their emotions. I found myself wanting to yell at my kindle at times; frustrated with how things were going. And in the next breathe, I would be smiling and just happy with Like and Ginny.

Beach Wedding was such an enjoyable read. I think Bella Cruise really knocked it out of the park with this one. The writing was flawless and entertaining. It reads as though Bella Cruise has been writing for years. I was really blown away.

Bella Cruise’s writing style is very similar to one of my favorite author’s, Melody Grace. The writing is captivating. The story flows well and is perfectly paced. Beach Wedding had just the right amount of angst, romance and drama. It was entertaining and have a few good twists thrown in along the way.

My only complaint, and it’s such a minor one was that I just wanted more at the ending. Please don’t get me wrong, I loved the way the story ended. It was perfect. I just wanted a little bit more. I wanted that little glimpse into the future.

Overall, I really enjoyed Beach Wedding. It’s definitely one of my top debut novel reads for this year. Bella Cruise is definitely an author to watch out for and I can not wait to read more from her in the future.

My Review

“In that instant I saw the life I wanted. I wanted to be their protector, their refuge from the pain and disappointment.”

Healing follows the story of Anna and Noah. After loosing her son’s father, Anna has just been trying to pick up the pieces of her life. She has such a busy and full life, that she doesn’t have time for much else. Her family is desperately wanting Anna to meet someone and take a chance on love again. For Anna, love just isn’t a priority right now….Noah isn’t looking for love. He just got out of a terrible relationship. He’s new in town and is making his career his focus. Until one night, Noah’s friend Craig, convinces Noah to go out for a guys night. This is the night he meets Anna. Meeting Anna changes everything. Noah suddenly can’t get Anna out of his head. The only problem is, he’s got to convince Anna to take a chance. Will Noah be able to convince Anna that he is someone worth taking a risk on? Will both Anna and Noah be able to let go of their pasts?

I thought Healing was a terrific book. I really enjoyed Anna and Noah’s story. I thought that it was really sweet and light on the drama. I fell in love with the characters almost instantly. They just possessed a quality that pulled me in. I even enjoyed the secondary characters. Christine and Craig were great additions to the story. Christine is Anna’s sister. Not only was she supportive of Anna, but she also gave Anna that push that she desperately needed. The other thing that I liked about Christine was that she had an air of mystery about her. She’s hiding something and I really can’t wait to find out what her secret is. And Craig, well from what I gathered, he’s been done wrong in the past. He seems like a really great friend to Noah. And when he’s not fighting with Christine, the two of them share some excellent chemistry. The two of them are definitely hiding something, and I hope that we’ll hear more from them in the future.

I just adored Anna and Noah. Anna is a single mom, just trying to best for her son. She’s so used to doing everything on her own and hates asking anyone for help. I love how she makes her son her #1 priority. I loved seeing Anna and Noah together. The two of them shared an instant connection. This is a case of insta-love that I felt really worked. Their chemistry was palpable and I loved the ease the two of them had together. Noah really took me by surprise. I wasn’t really expecting him to be an alpha male, so when I saw him start with the alpha tendencies, I was hooked even more.

My only complaint and it is such a small one, is that I would have liked to see Noah’s ex get a little of what was coming to her. She made a big stink and tried to ruin things between Noah and Anna. And then just sort of disappeared. I just would have liked to have seen a confrontation between her and Noah, and her seeing that her antics were not going to work.

Overall, I really enjoyed Healing. It is the debut novel of author Rachel Caid. I think this series is off to really good start. It has a nice mix of angst and romance. The story is sweet, with some drama, but not too much. I think this author has a lot of really great potential and I’m looking forward to reading more from her in the future.

My Review

Skyscrapers & Camelot follows the story of Aimee and Keegan. Aimee and Keegan have been friends since they were six years old. Somewhere along the way, Aimee’s feelings for Keegan grew into more. On Keegan’s last night home before college, Aimee takes a chance and kisses Keegan. It was one of the best kisses of her life. Too bad that kiss changed everything. She never saw Keegan again after that night. Now years later, fate has brought the two of them back together….

Skyscrapers & Camelot is the debut novel for Mindy A. Carter. And let me tell you, this series is off to a fantastic start. From the moment I read the synopsis for this book, I just knew I had to get my hands on it. I loved the idea of finding your soul mate at a young age, being separated for many years, and then fate bringing the two of you back together.

I really liked Aimee and Keegan. You could feel their connection and chemistry instantly. As soon as I saw the two of them together, I had to know more. I had to know why Keegan stayed away for so long. Aimee was so hurt by Keegan’s past actions. I was rooting hard for the two of them to be able to move forward. You could tell that Keegan really cared about Aimee. He just was afraid of the way things were changing. He made mistakes and now was his chance to right his wrongs. My only complaint about Aimee and Keegan as a couple, was that sometimes, I felt like their dialogue was a little on the cheesy side, maybe a little too sweet. That being said, there was enough swoon worthy moments between the two of them to balance things out.

Skyscrapers & Camelot has plenty of angst and drama. No good angsty romance would be complete without a little drama and a villain you just love to hate. The villain of this story, Gretchen. I didn’t like her from the moment her character was introduced. She was a pot-stirrer and you could tell she was going to try to get in between Keegan and Aimee. Let’s just say, she definitely kept things interesting.

I just adored Keegan’s brother Kaleb and Aimee’s best friend Reese. Not only were they awesome friends to Aimee. But they were honest and told Aimee how it was. They gave her the strength to stand up for herself. And I loved the relationship that Kaleb and Reese had. They were perfect for each other. I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of them in the next book, but I’m hoping that they maybe get their own novella.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. There were a couple of spots where the story wasn’t as strong. I found myself really frustrated with Aimee and Keegan at times. I wish that Aimee would have confronted Keegan about Gretchen earlier on in the story. I felt like she let her get by with a little too much. I think this series is off to a great start. The story-line held my interest. I really enjoyed all the characters. There was plenty of angst and drama. There was no shortage of romance or swoony moments. I will warn you that it does end on a bit of a cliffhanger and it’s a good one! I for one, will be counting down the days until Book 2 is released. I can not wait to find out what will happen next.

Excerpt

I close my eyes while he opens the door then slowly leads me into the space, the anticipation of what he’s going to show me making me feel like I’m floating on air.

We move around something, and then he lets go of my hand and walks away for a second, moving something around. Both of his hands then touch my hips, and I’m guided down to sit on his lap.

“Keegan,” I yelp, the action having surprised me.
“I’m going to count to five, Aimee, and then you can open those beautiful eyes.” His deep and commanding voice starts counting, “One … two … three … four … five.”

My eyes remain tightly shut as I feel his beating heart against my back, matching mine.

He laughs and puts both arms around me, holding me close with his chin on my shoulder, and I can feel his breath on my neck. I suddenly break out in goose bumps.

“It’s okay. Open them,” he whispers in my ear.

I slowly open my eyes, seeing we are sitting directly in front of his expansive window. The scene in front of me is one of beauty. I am facing the New York sky, the stars twinkling above and lights of different colors below us. I can see everything for miles, the entire city. It’s the most amazing view I have ever seen. The buildings and sky fit together like the perfect puzzle. The view at night is more glorious than I ever imagined, just as Keegan mentioned during his interview.

“This is … just … no words, Keegan.” Although him sharing this with me makes me feel something in my heart, I can’t find the words to describe it.

He holds me a little tighter. “I know. You don’t have to say anything.”

“Thank you for showing this to me,” I whisper.

“You’re welcome,” He replies in another whisper.

“No, really, thank you. I could sit here all night, looking at this.” I tell him, imagining how beautiful this scene would be watching the sun rise. Of course, what would make it special is watching it together.

“I have actually looked out these windows and watched the city all night.”

“By yourself?” I ask.

“I’ve never shared this with anyone until now.”

“Really?”

“Yes. As if I would even want to be here with anyone else.”

I melt into him. How could this man be any more perfect?

I never thought that, at 40, this would be my life. Mourning the loss of the man I vowed to love for life was hard enough. Online dating, starting a business, and falling in love was never the plan.

Victoria Bennett has been blessed with a loving husband, a wonderful son and amazing friends. Always the organized planner, Victoria was thrown life’s curve ball when she found herself a widow and single mom before 40. After mourning the loss of her husband and rejoining her friends and family in her once simple life, Victoria finds herself venturing into the world of online dating with little success.

After hanging up her keyboard and focusing on new experiences and hobbies, Victoria is as surprised as everyone else when her favorite pastime leads to a new career and passion for life. When a friendship turns to romance, her life is once again thrown for a loop. Like everything new in her life she takes on the relationship with gusto, and a series of mishaps.

Victoria soon learns that sometimes the life you’ve planned isn’t the life you lead. It is still your life, just your life rewritten.

“I’m sorry, what?”

I had to have heard him wrong, right? There is no way this guy is serious. And yet, by the look on his face, I’m pretty sure he is.

This is the worst date ever.

“I said I would love to take you back to your house and pleasure your feet,” he says with more than a hint of disdain.

Well, hell. I had heard him correctly. He said pleasure and feet. Together. On purpose. Oh, I’m going to pleasure my feet all right, by sticking my stiletto up his ass. This guy is nuts if he thinks I’m taking him back to my house so he can get his rocks off by messing with my feet. I get it; I am wearing some pretty hot shoes. I thought they were ridiculous at first, but my sister, Charlotte, insisted they were a must have for my new life. I still don’t know why I need a new life, but I listened, and if I’m completely honest, I love them. Peep-toe, leopard-print, five-inch stilettos that make me feel like I can hold my own in this crazy world. They give me the power I need for moments like this.

“You know, Phillip, I don’t think I’m really there.”

I’m not likely to ever actually be there. Sadly for Phillip, I lack a poker face and imagine my eyes have fluttered a minimum of ten times while I purse my lips and inhale through my nose and out through my mouth.

Looking across the table, I am greeted with a furrowed brow and a look I can’t quite put my finger on, but I know it isn’t welcoming. Shit. I’d hoped to at least leave this date with a friend.
