The TBR (To Be Read) Tag – Tagged by our very own Amy!!!

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?

K- Uh…I don’t. I have three TBRs. One on my phone, one on my Kindle (books I have already purchased) and our Goodreads one. I like to think of it as ‘controlled chaos’.

C- Simple answer is I don’t! Actually I have more than one TBR pile so really I have no chance of keeping track of anything. We of course have a OUaBB Goodreads one, which is my main go-to. But I also have a Kindle one and I even have a TBR pile in the notes on my phone! Ahem…

Is your TBR mostly E-book or print?

K- It’s nearly 100% e-book! So easy.

C- E-Book all the way!

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?

K- I’m a mood reader so I can’t really plan ahead. Often i’ll end up going for a completely random book that’s not even on my TBR.

C- Well… It’s kind of like organized chaos. Usually I just pick one on a ‘whim’ or a ‘feeling’ depending on what genre I’m in the mood for. Otherwise I’ll pick one due to peer pressure…. Or I just bypass my TBR completely and buy something completely random!

A book that’s been on your TBR the longest?

K- Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, #1) by Richelle Mead. I have picked this up a couple of times but I just can’t seem to get past the first chapter.

C- Burned (Fever Series #7) by Karen Marie Moning. I loved the first 5 books in this series. The sixth was iffy for me and this seventh book has had it’s publication date pushed back a few times… So it’s been on my TBR for a very long time and I’m not completely sure that I’ll actually read it

A book that you’ve recently added to your TBR?

K- After (The After Series, #1) by Anna Todd. I have heard great things about this book so I’m considering it even though I usually avoid romance series.

C- Truth or Beard (The Winston Brothers series #1) by Penny Reid. I love all things Penny Reid and have just finished reading a short story which is actually the beginning of this book… It’s not out till next year but already I can’t wait!

A book on your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover?

K- I don’t really have any?!  A lot of them have great covers but there’s nothing on there that I picked just because of the cover. The Collectors’ Society by Heather Lyons has a beautiful cover but the story also sounds amazing.

C- Hmmm…. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. This cover captured me from the first time I saw it in a book store!

A book on your TBR that you never plan on really reading?

K- The entire Outlander series. I LOVE the TV show but because of my love for the tv show and the length of the books I will probably (definitely) never read the books. Also, we cheated and read ahead to find out what happens so I don’t have the burning need to ‘know’ what’s coming up.

C- I’m the same here… The Outlander series. I loved the idea of reading this series and a while back we were considering buddy reading the first book, but I think for me, this is going to be a TV only format.

An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for?

K- The Road by Jay McLean. More Than Forever was my favourite book this year so I’m excited for anything Jay McLean writes.

C- Too many!!! But we are big Nicole Peeler fans and her new book Jinn & Juice is out next year. Beyond excited for this one!

A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read except you?

K- The Bronze Horseman. Why have I STILL not read this book?! I’m just not ready for the emotional commitment I think.

C- Ahem.. The Bronze Horseman. Everyone keeps telling me to read this book and I want to read it…

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you?

K- The Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Everyone loves that series.

C- The Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. Kristal keeps telling me I need to read this. It IS going to happen!

A book on your TBR that you’re dying to read?

K- The Collectors’ Society by Heather Lyons (Ooh this book gets two mentions!). Amy read it and loved it so I can’t wait to read this. It’s next up on my list actually! Excited.

C- In the Land of the Long White Cloud by Sarah Lark. I love a good historical read and I’m intrigued by this series which focuses on colonial 19th century New Zealand.

The number of books on your Goodreads TBR shelf?

K- Only 176 🙂 We’re doing really well!

C- We aren’t outrageous at all with only 176!

Top 5 Summer (actually winter) Reads of 2014

We were tagged in this post by an awesome Twitter friend of ours – Foxy Blogs! There have been SO many amazing books out over the past few months but we have managed to narrow our suggestions down for you guys!  Also, it’s winter for us (except Amy) at the moment so these are really our top winter reads!

Kristal’s Top Reads –

1. Becoming Calder & Finding Eden by Mia Sheridan. I’m counting these two as one because they are two parts of the same story. And such a great story!

2. Beauty and The Mustache by Penny Reid. A sweet and sassy romance that’s FULL of hot men…what more could you want?

3. Puddle Jumping by Amber L. Johnson. A moving and unique YA story that I read in one sitting and could NOT put down.

4. More Than Forever by Jay McLean. This book was probably my best of the year. It had everything – humour, intense angst and a gorgeous romance. Book perfection.

5. Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels, #7) by Ilona Andrews. This is the seventh book in the Kate Daniels series and one of my faves. This whole series has been a phenomenal.

Charmaine’s Top Reads –

1. Beauty and The Mustache by Penny Reid. Oh my goodness this book! This is definitely in my top 5 for the year so it has to top my list for my winter reads. Once again Penny Reid makes me feel all kinds of love for her writing. This book had my knees weak and my stomach in flutters. Serious book perfection. ❤

2. The Izzy Chronicles Series by Michelle Graves. OK, OK I know this is a series so technically I’m cheating here but I read these books one after another because I just could. not. stop! So really I feel like I can count them as one. This series is my favourite UF series find since Fever and waiting till the final installment comes out in November is using up all of my patience!

3. Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige. A (very) different take on the land of Oz. This is YA mixed with a good sprinkle of dark and creepy detail. I was very quickly enamored with this book and it’s characters, I promise you’ll never be able to watch The Wizard of Oz in the same way again!

4. Sweet Addiction by J. Daniels. Oooohhhhh this book warmed me up this winter! Dylan owns a bakery AND she falls onto possibly the hottest most perfect guy in the history of romance books, from there, swoon-worthy times and hilarity ensue! So what is there not to like?! Expect smut with a sprinkle of sweet.

5. Black Lies by Alessandra Tores. Whoa! What else can I say. I’m not sure if I would’ve read this if it hadn’t been for the group read we ended up doing, but I ended up loving this! Seriously, when you read the blurb and it says; If you think you’ve heard this story before, trust me – you haven’t. It’s not kidding. You seriously haven’t read anything like this.

Amy’s Top Reads –

1. Ten Below Zero by Whitney Barbetti. This is definitely my top book of the summer, maybe even the year so far. It’s beautifully written and captivating. It was such an emotional read for me and unlike anything I’ve read so far.

2. Beauty and The Mustache by Penny Reid. I was actually introduced to this book by author Daisy Prescott. This was my first Penny Reid book and I’m now hooked on her writing! This book is smart, funny, heartwarming and definitely swoon worthy!

3. Scoring Wilder by RS Grey. This was one of those books that had a ton of hype surrounding it, so I was a little worried about reading it. Well, it was definitely worth the hype! Upon reading the first sentence, I knew I was going to love this book and I totally did! It was fun, sexy and just an overall great read.

4. Beauty in the Ashes by Micalea Smeltzer. Now this book! Wow! It was nothing like I expected at all. It was intense and dealt with some really tough issues. And the ending took me completely by surprise!

5. Beloved by Corrine Michales. This is the debut novel by Corinne Michaels and is one of those books that has you thinking how is this her first novel??? It was very well written, captivating and had the perfect blend of angst and romance. One warning, this book does end on cliffhanger and it’s a good one! I am anxiously waiting for the sequel to come out!

The Seven Deadly Sins – Thanks to Moonrise Book Blog!!!

The Seven Deadly Sins

We were tagged by the amazing Moonrise Book Blog! Thanks Moonrise!

We are going to tag:

Michelle Graves, Sharon Kay, Nicole Peeler, S. K. Munt, Kristin @ Star-Crossed Blog, Foxy Blogs, Feeding My Addiction Book Reviews, Chocolate Pages.

Greed

1. What is your most expensive book?

C – The White Stripes – Under the Great White Northern Lights – Well worth the cost of bringing it into the country!

K – Probably the library book I lost that ended up costing me a freakin fortune. I can’t even remember what it was called.

Wrath

2. What author do you have a love/hate relationship with?

C – Ugh, Charlaine Harris and her series The Southern Vampire Mysteries. Loved it at the start and hated it by the end! WHY!!!

K – Oh, mine is CH too. I have never felt so crushed by a book series. I kept deluding myself about the direction it was taking.

Gluttony

3. What book have you devoured over and over again with no shame?

C – Not just one book! A whole series! The Jane True series by Nicole Peeler. I’ve re-read those books a couple of times and will totally re-read again! (Obsessed)

K – Loved Jane True as well. Also, Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married by Marian Keyes. I love that book so hard.

Sloth

4. Which book have you neglected reading due to laziness?

C – Hmmm… If I’m not reading a book it’s not because of laziness, it’s because I have issues with Amazon’s 1-click and keep buying more that I ‘MUST’ read so others just keep getting shuffled down! It’s an actual life problem.

K – Haha! My TBR folder of purchased books on my Kindle has over fifty books in it. I have an itchy 1-click finger. But I’d say the main one would be The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons.

Pride

5. What book do you most talk about in order to sound like an intellectual reader?

C – Haha! If any of you could eavesdrop into our convos here at OUaBB you would be very entertained. We don’t try to sound like anything that we aren’t and I really believe that all books have their place in the world. I love a bit of chick-lit fluff just as much as I love my heavier reads. It all depends on my mood and I will happily discuss any book with anyone and not care how intellectual I sound or don’t sound!

K – Yea I agree. I can’t say anything really stands out but I did have a boyfriend once who wouldn’t shut up about how amazing The Da Vinci Code was, so I read it in order to impress him. I was bored the whole time. That really should have been a sign of things to come…

Lust

6. What attributes do you find attractive in a male or female character?

C – Good question! Female = Feisty, hilarious, inappropriate, tough, loyal and of course general awesomeness is a bonus! Male = Swoon-worthy. That is all.

K – Female – Sassy, funny, bad-ass…I really like strong female characters. Male – Strong, smokin’ hot, someone who encourages the female lead instead of expecting her to act meek and mild. I don’t mind protectiveness but I like it more when they work as a team. Example – Barrons & Mac from the Fever Series.

Envy

7. What book would you most like to receive as a gift?

C – I wish my Opa (Grandfather) would write his life story and gift it to me. That book to me, would be priceless.

K – Oh no. My answer’s going to sound shallow now. But…uh…I’d really love to have the full set of Harry Potter books in hardcover. That would be stupendous.

Thanks so much again to Moonrise Book Blog!! We loved this!

You guys know how we’re helping the awesome blog The Page Girls celebrate their Blogoversary?!! Well to make this celebration even more awesome (WHAT!?! AMAZING!!!) They’ve given us an E-book to give away to our readers! That’s right! More giveaway goodness!

Amanda Nathan just lost everything – her first real boyfriend to her lifelong best friend, her half of their shared apartment in St. Louis and her first post-grad job as a receptionist. Forced back under her parents’ roof in Merit, Missouri, the gossipy town she’d spent her life trying to escape, Amanda has but one saving grace – being an anonymous moderator on HDU, the Internet’s largest celebrity gossip community. Unemployed and alone, Amanda relishes in the one thing she has control over – Hollywood gossip. Now, her idea of fun is getting lost in the glamorous lives of others and posting nasty rumors about her former bestie’s favorite actor, Liam Brody, a playboy notorious for dumping his model girlfriends on a monthly basis.

So who would’ve thought that Liam Brody would be Amanda’s answer to escaping Merit? When the controversial womanizer needs an image boost to land a new role, he turns to none other than HDU for some good press. As it turns out, Liam is as eager to shed his playboy image as Amanda is desperate to move out of Merit. The solution to both problems? Fake a romance in which Hollywood’s biggest playboy falls for an unknown, sweet and shockingly plain Jane.

With the help of Ian, a fellow HDU moderator and self-developed expert on stardom, Amanda packs her bags for her new life in New York, where the overnight fame and glamour of being a celebrity girlfriend awaits. But Amanda soon discovers that their little ploy is a lot more emotionally complicated than she imagined. And while she finds that life works a thousand times better in her Hollywood circle, so does manipulation.
