Blog Tour and Review: Sidelined by Emma Hart

Posted on

Three people. Three motives. Three reasons.

When the game leaves the field in the second book in the USA Todaybestselling By His Game series and mixes with sex, lies, and betrayal, the future isn’t the only thing on the line…

Macey Kelly has sworn off men.

Unless they’re going to zip in and out of her apartment—and her vagina—quicker than they can give her an orgasm, she’s not interested. Finding out her boyfriend of three years got her cousin pregnant was a total confidence knock. Luckily for Macey, confidence is something she has in abundance, so all Mitch’s asshole move did was make her pretty cynical toward men.

The last thing Jack Carr needs at the start of the season is for a dark-haired, sexy as sin, gyspyesque beauty to be consuming his thoughts. Football is his life, which leaves no time for girls. Unless they’re the love ‘em and leave ‘em girls. Becoming one of the best running backs the league has ever seen by racking up the yards is his top priority… not bedding Macey Kelly, despite her affinity for blow jobs and total sexual abandon.

Avoiding each other is the perfect solution, but when your best friends are in a serious living together kind of relationship, that isn’t always an option. Sometimes, sex on tap is the easiest option.

And the sweetest.

Until Mitch shows up with a bombshell that could shatter Macey’s perfectly carved out life. It’s been a year, but he isn’t giving her up, not now he has a chance at winning her back. And he knows her buttons. Every single one of them.

Unfortunately for him, Jack Carr isn’t a loser. The star running back has his eye on the Vince Lombardi—and on Macey. But seeing her hanging between them both isn’t something he’s down with, not when he discovers why she’s so against anything more-ish, as she puts it.

Macey quickly realizes she’s the ball being passed between two desperate yet opposing teams, and that only one of them can score the touchdown. But will the winner be the guy she lived with and loved for three years, or will the winner be the guy who understands her and makes her body come alive?

In this game, someone will be sidelined, and calling the play isn’t always as easy as it seems.

Sidelined is a full-length, standalone novel. It’s not necessary to read Blindsided before this book, but it is advised.

My Review

Just when I think I can’t possibly love a character more, Emma Hart gives me Jack Carr and proves me wrong!

Sidelined follows the story of Jack and Macey.  Thanks to her cheating ex-boyfriend, Macey has sworn off men and relationships. The only way she allows a man in her life is for a one-night stand. The last thing she planned for was Jack Carr…Football is Jack Carr’s passion. After finding his girlfriend (at the time) in bed with someone else, he’s made football his priority. Only having time for women if it’s a one-night stand. Everything changes once Macey enters the picture….She throws him off his game. Suddenly one night with her won’t be enough. But, neither of them are ready for more. They try to avoid each other, deny what they are felling.  But it’s not easy when their best friends are seeing each other.

So, the two of them devise a plan. They will only sleep with each other. Nothing more, nothing less and once one of them starts feeling differently, things will end. Sounds easy enough, right? What could possibly go wrong? Everything seems so right, until Macey’s ex comes back into the picture. He drops a bombshell that has the power to change everything. Now everything isn’t as easy as it seems. Macey is now stuck with two men vying for her attention.  She’s suddenly finding herself having to make a choice that she’s not prepared for. In the end, who will come out on top???

Sidelined was a fantastic read! To say it takes you on one heck of an emotional roller-coaster ride, would be an understatement. There certainly was never a dull moment. There is so much push and pull. Angst and frustration. And I loved every second of it.

Macey and Jack were so fantastic together. Both of them had been hurt by their ex’s so badly, that they were blinded by what was in front of them. Oblivious to how happy they could both be, if they would just open their eyes. I loved the banter between the two of them and the push and pull of their relationship. They both frustrated me so much, but again, I loved every second of it. Jack Carr was one over the top alpha male. I loved Jack’s persistence and his chase of Macey. He didn’t give up on her no matter how many times she tried to fight him. Their chemistry was undeniable and scorching.  I couldn’t wait for them to just give into one another and see how amazing they could be.

Sidelined was a quick and easy read for me. I fell in love with Jack and Macey instantly.  The characters in the is story were all fantastic. They were all so much fun and easy to connect with.  I loved how real all of Macey’s friends were and the advice and tough love that they would give.  Sidelined was just the read that I needed. It made me laugh, it frustrated me, made me swoon and fall in love. Sidelined is a great follow up to Blindsided and a wonderful addition to the His Game series. I can not wait to see what will happen next!!

EXCERPT:

You’re not goin’ anywhere, baby.” He steps closer, his fingers twitching, his breath ghosting across my neck. “At least, you ain’t fuckin’ moving until you’ve told me why you’re avoiding me.”

“Isn’t it obvious? You and I are cut from the same cloth, Jack. We don’t do the post-sex thing.”

“Yet here we are.”

“It’s unfortunate.”

“That what you call it?” he laughs, low and husky.

“Yep.” I drink.

“Put the drink down, M,” he whispers. “It’s fucking with you.”

“Really? I thought that was you fucking with me,” I respond, turning to him and pressing a hand against his chest. “What the hell are you doing here?”

Like, right here. Literally.

“It’s my best friend’s birthday.” He smirks. “Why’ve you been staring at me all night like you wanna suck and bite my cock simultaneously?”

“I assure you it was the latter.”

“Sure it was.” Jack steps closer to me again, and I grab my glass with the hand closest to him so I don’t grab his ass or something, ‘cause, shit. He has a sweet-as-hell ass.

“It was.” I drink. Again. Where the hell are my girls? “I feel like dancing.” I finish the glass and twist my body away from his.

His hand finally falls from me as I stalk toward and then down the stairs. I slip into the moving crowd, but I’ve barely moved my hips when two large, strong hands clasp me and tug me backward. The wall of muscle my back slams into is solid, and I exhale on a whoosh even as I close my fingers against the ones clasping my hips.

“Nice try, baby,” Jack says into my ear. “Run if you want. I’m a running back. I’ll chase you and catch you every fuckin’ time.”

“Sounds like a promise you can’t keep, doll,” I reply, my breath catching when he moves my hips against his.

“Sounds like a promise you’re afraid of.”

BLINDSIDED:

From Emma Hart, the New York Times bestselling author of the Game series, comes a brand new series where the game is realer, the tension is tighter, the sex is hotter, and the stakes are the highest of all…

Two people. Two agendas. Two games.

What happens when the out-there It-Boy of football meets the secret It-Girl of fashion?

As the daughter of Hollywood’s sweetheart, Leah Veronica can’t even buy a coffee without finding her face on a magazine stand, so it’s no wonder she’s launching her first fashion line in secret. With it debuting at New York Fashion Week in just under a month, extra time in the spotlight is the last thing she needs.

The son of the best quarterback the league has ever seen, filling legendary shoes as the L.A. Vipers’ quarterback was inevitable for Corey Jackson. So was meeting Leah Veronica—the first girl to hand him his ass without putting a hair out of place.

Getting the handsome, prickly blonde into his bed becomes his number one goal. But getting the sexy, over-confident footballer the hell away from her becomes Leah’s—at least until she realizes the best way to do that is to give him what he wants.

If only it was that simple.

When Corey discovers who she is, and private photos of Hollywood’s finest find their way online, everything they thought they knew is thrown into disarray.

And when secrets are exposed and hearts are shattered, they have to figure out if they’ve been blindsided by love or reality, and if it’s worth running the extra yard to win the game they never meant to play.

Justified  (Alfha Law #1) Novella

After the first sighting, he’s fascinated.

After the first smile, he’s infatuated.

By the first kiss, he’s obsessed.

Nolan sees Chloe through a window of a bakery in downtown Manhattan. At first sight, something about her calls to a piece of him he thought was lost. Without thinking, he begins watching her, and when the moment presents itself, he strikes, claiming Chloe for himself. For a man who is used to getting what he wants Nolan wont let anyone or anything stand in his way.

Excerpt:

“You look stunning.” I step towards her, running my index finger down her bare side. “I don’t know how I’m going to make it through the evening without killing every man who looks at you.” That’s not a lie, I think, tracing the edge of her breast.

“You didn’t pick this, did you?” she asks. I lift my eyes to meet hers and shake my head.“I can change.”

“No. You look…” I shake my head, trying to think of a way to describe her. “You look absolutely beautiful.”

My Review

I’m going to just keep this review short and sweet. Justified is a super quick and easy read! It is one SCORCHING HOT novella. It is completely told from the male pov. If you are a fan of steam, possessive-over the top alpha males, and super sexy scenes, you will not be disappointed!!

The only complaint that I have is that I did feel like the story was rushed at times. Everything just happened so quickly. It just left me wanting more. However, that being said, I really enjoyed Nolan’s pursuit of Chloe. Nolan was not going to take no for answer. He’s definitely the type who’s not afraid to go after what he wants!

Overall, I did find this novella to be very enjoyable. This book had lots of sexy times, romance, mystery and intrigue. This is an exciting new series from Aurora Rose Reynolds and I’m looking forward to seeing where she’ll take us next!

Book Review – A is for Alpha Male by Laurel Ulen Curtis (A is for Alpha Male #1)

Posted on

A is for Absolutely Freakin Hilarious! What a laugh! The sass, Haley’s smart-ass mouth,  the adorable and slightly scatterbrained mother, the amazing Dan Smith – it all made for a fantastically fun read.

Haley Whitfield is sick to death of boring mommas boys so she and her mother, Allison, make a list of all the things they are looking for in the perfect man and embark on an adventure to find him. Setting off on a cross country road trip, they plot their route and make a plan to track down their men.  At their first stop they encounter the delicious Dan Smith. He doesn’t have all the qualities on the list exactly, but the heart wants what the heart wants, right? For the rest of the book we get to witness Haley and Allison’s shenanigans on their trip and discover just who Dan Smith really is.

First off – I just LOVED this mother/daughter duo. Their relationship was fantastic and they truly were best friends. The banter between them was written in a comical and engaging way, and while I don’t share anywhere near as much info about my life with my mother as Haley did with hers, I think the open and honest communication in their relationship is definitely something I would want to have with my daughter. The ability to discuss absolutely any emotion, without judgement, is a rare quality a lot of relationships strive for. Allison was the perfect antidote to Haley’s crazy dramatics, and Haley had the street smarts that sweet (and slightly naive) Allison, lacked.  They really stole the show for me in this book.

“Haley, you need a shower. Sweet Lord, you look like you’ve been given a makeover by homeless people.”

I had to admit that reasonably early on I could see where the story was going with Dan. Not all of it, but the main twist, I think, is quite obvious. Even though I had figured this out, it didn’t take away from the story. After all, it’s a romantic comedy not a suspense novel. I enjoyed the cute exchanges between Dan and Haley, and loved how he seemed to ‘get her’ in the same way her mother did. I would have liked a little more background story on Dan. I think that just a smidge more info would have made me feel more connected with his character.

“But there was something about Danny. Some kind of comfortable understanding. Some kind of pull.”

Which leads us to Haley. A warning – DO NOT READ THIS BOOK IF YOU ARE OFFENDED BY THE F WORD. Haley has a mouth on her like a sailor. But not just any sailor – a sarcastic, witty, inappropriate sailor. Her dramatics were just so ridiculous and over the top! Those who knew and loved her seemed to take it all in their stride but I think most people would film it for youtube if they were to ever run into someone like Hayley. She was priceless –

“I’ll admit, it was a struggle getting us both down to the ground gently under her weight, but I somehow managed it.
However, I would never, ever tell her that. If she asked I would be all ‘Light as a f-cking feather, Madre. You were so light I balanced you on my pinky finger for a few seconds, just to show off.’ Honesty is my policy. Always. Except when talking about a woman’s weight. When confronted with this timeless issue, lie, lie, lie your ass off.”

There was a lot of Kristen Ashley fangirling in the book so I think if you are familiar with Kristen Ashley books then you will probably get a little more out of the story than those who aren’t. There are a few things that may go over your head if you haven’t read any KA. However, it’s pretty easy to fill in the blanks. I really enjoyed this for my weekend read. Just what I needed!
