Release Blitz with Review: The Upside to Being Single by Emma Hart

If anyone asks, I knew better than to flash my boobs for Mardi Gras beads.

I still don’t know why I did it.
Maybe it was the dare from my two best friends.
Maybe it was the guys on the balcony saying they’d throw Fireball shots with the beads.
Or maybe it was the quiet guy in the corner of that same balcony with piercing gray eyes, wavy dark hair, and a smile so tempting I wanted to climb up there and lick it off his face.
Maybe it was because I never thought I’d see them again.
Not that it matters. Not today.
Because the hotel I manage was finally bought—and the guy who walks in and introduces himself as my new boss is Mr. Tall, Dark, and Silent.

There are many upsides to being single.
Your new boss knowing what your boobs look like?
Not one of them.

MY REVIEW

“As a rule, if it comes out of my mouth, I’m serious.”

“He kissed me like I was a treasure chest worth exploring. He kissed me like I was worth millions in hidden gold. He kissed me like he’d never kiss another woman again, and I reveled in his touch.”

“I’m smart and scrapy.” “I could probably survive an apocalypse.”

“If I were a fuse, he was a match, waiting to set me on fire.”

The Upside to Being Single is a quick witted romantic comedy that will make you laugh, swoon and will have you begging for more. From the moment I picked up this book, I was hooked on Mellie. She is strong. She is blunt and has no filter. She is a hot mess and never backs down from a challenge. When she meets Jake, all bets are off. Not only is he sexy, but he is cocky as ever. He gives just as good as he gets and has no problem handling Mellie. Yes, when she meets Jake, she quickly discovers that she has finally met her match.

The Upside to Being Single is a great workplace romance that is filled with classic Emma Hart humor. The story-line is entertaining and the banter will give you a run for your money. Only Emma Hart can make snark filled banter into the hottest sexual tension. The tension just oozed off of Mellie and Jake and I for one could not wait to see just how explosive these two could be together.

The Upside to Being Single is fun, smartly written and just an overall enjoyable read. It was sexy, hilarious and was filled with great anticipation. The Upside to Being Single is a quick read and is one that you won’t want to put down because it is just so delightful. From good to flow to funny characters to OMG, did that just happen moments. This book had it all. I loved getting lost in Mellie and Jake’s story and look forward to getting my hands on Peyton and Chloe’s stories in the future.

*I was provided an ARC copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review*

EXCERPT

“I just—I don’t get it.” I threw myself onto the sofa and almost sent the box of donuts flying onto the floor.
Thankfully, Peyton was quicker than the box. She grabbed it and sat back, hugging it to herself. “First, watch the donuts. I got the last two pink sprinkles, and I’m partial to them.” She stroked the top of the box. “Second, what don’t you get? How he doesn’t care about your boobs? I don’t care about them either.”
“You’re not supposed to care about my boobs. You’re a woman, for a start.”
“I care about your boobs,” Chloe interrupted, tucking her blond hair behind her ear. “I think you have great boobs. Bra or no bra.”
“Usually no bra,” Peyton added.
“I’m not afraid to throw something at you,” I warned her. “This is awkward.”
“Ugh! Get over yourself, Melanie!” Peyton snapped her fingers. “You are a grown woman. He is a grown man. He saw your tits. So what? Steven Lawrence saw your tits five times in junior year.”
I snatched a donut from the box. Don’t tell my hips. “We were dating! It’s entirely different!”
Chloe delicately picked up a white-iced donut before saying, “She’s right. It is different, Peyt. They were dating, and Jacob is her boss. You can’t expect her to just get over that. It is partly your fault.”
“It’s just as much your fault,” Peyton reminded her, then looked at me and nodded toward Chloe. “Drunky smurf over here shook her Tic-Tacs like she was in front of a bachelor party leaving a curry house.”
I choked on my laughter. “That’s not the point. You got us drunk. It’s almost entirely your fault.”
“Look, sunshine,” she said, tearing a bite of donut off the ring so her words were muffled. “I didn’t grab your shirt and whip it up like a two-dollar hooker on overtime. You did that, so grow a pair and take responsibility for your actions.”
“You sound like you don’t want to take responsibility for yours.”
“Hey. You’re big girls. You can refuse cocktails.”
Chloe and I shared a glance. “Refuse cocktails?” she said. “I don’t understand.”
“You have us mixed up with your other friends,” I continued. “But, wait. You don’t have other friends.”
“I have plenty of friends,” Peyt said.
“Friends without penises. Or benefits.”
She paused. “We’re not talking about me. We’re talking about your hot boss who knows what your tits look like.”
“You’re not helping.”
“I’m not trying to help. I’m trying to slap your size-eight ass into reality, you idiot.”
“Slap mine into reality and I’m putting yours on a catapult. Right into the middle of the gulf.” I tore my donut in two and gave her boobs a pointed look. “I always wondered if silicone would float.”

EXCERPT

He closed the shop, then went upstairs. Kyla was at the kitchen table, sketches strewn around her. Male costumes, notes.

“You okay?” he asked.

She looked up, eyes dazed. Then she focused, and he saw a blush creeping up her cheeks. “Oh. Yeah. Great. You?”

He felt his body tighten. “Um… yeah.” He took a deep breath. “We need to talk.”

Her expression turned alarmed. “That’s never good,” she murmured.

“About this morning,” he said. “It was…”

Sexual. Sensual. Fucking awesome.

“Unexpected,” he said instead, but still heard the strain in his voice.

“True,” she agreed.

He looked down at himself. “Listen, let me jump into the shower. Give me five minutes. I don’t want… that is, I just…” He swallowed. “I think we should sort of discuss what happened. You know. Like normal adult people.”

God, could he screw this up any worse?

She looked down at the table, then looked back at him, her eyes gleaming, her smile broad. He wondered absently if she was doing kegels.

Then his dick started to harden, because the thought of her doing kegels… oh, man.

“Five minutes,” he repeated.

“Okay,” she said brightly.

He took the world’s quickest shower. Another cold one. It barely took the edge off.

Why didn’t you just say kissing had been a bad idea? he scolded himself as he toweled off. Why didn’t he just say that they should stay friends, and keep the physical out of it?

Because you know you want her, his body answered. And it was true. He still wanted her. He knew he shouldn’t. He knew she deserved better… someone who would stay, who would put her first.

But damn it, he didn’t want her to think he didn’t want her.

He realized he’d jumped in the shower without grabbing clean clothes. Cursing his stupidity, he wrapped the towel around his waist, grabbed the bundle of dirty clothes, and headed for the bedroom. “I’ll be out in a minute,” he called to Kyla, before realizing —  she wasn’t in the kitchen.

She was in the bedroom. On the bed.

In lingerie.

His mouth went dry, and his eyes widened.

Her white-blonde hair tumbled around her shoulders. Her mouth was a slick, dark pink. Her breasts were barely contained in a silvery-blue bra —  one of those half-cup deals that put her on display like his own personal tasting menu — and her matching panties showed off all her moon-pale, smooth, perfect skin.

He dropped the dirty clothes, clutching at his towel.

“Okay,” she said, with a smile. “Let’s talk.”

“Hardy is my All-time Favorite Male Character in a Romance Comedy” ~ Amy, Once Upon a Book Blog

“Boldly smart and sassy characters.” ~ GR Review
From New York Times Bestselling Author, S.L. Scott, comes this downright delicious peek into the male anatomy… er, mind of Hardy Richard.

There are only two rules:

1. Don’t get too close.

2. Don’t fall in love.

Correction: Don’t ever fall in love. I don’t need the baggage of relationships. Life should be simple, easy, uncomplicated.

The problem I’m faced with is, if I really believe life should be that easy, that uncomplicated, and that simple, then why am I still thinking about a woman I met on a random Monday at the bar? A girl who was never a Gimlet, and always a Paloma. Yep, I called it all wrong last night and I’m starting to wonder if my heart will pay the price.

I might have broken rule number one, but rule number two remains firmly intact. For now. Sort of. Okay, maybe rule two hasn’t been broken, but it’s definitely been bent.

Posted on

“Good Morning Malibu, it’s another beautiful day on the west coast! I’m Noely Clark, your host: and I’m in the market for love…”

When the publicity team of the new local restaurant, Going in Blind, began their search for a hot, local celebrity to promote the wildly popular eatery, they couldn’t have found a better person than me.

Outgoing? Check.
Single? Check.
Open to finding love? Check.

I signed up immediately.

A hopeless romantic with an exceedingly demanding schedule, I’ve found it impossible to find the man of my dreams—so Going in Blind seems too good to be true! That’s until they start setting me up on dates—three very different, very attractive, very distinct blind dates—and only one thing is for certain . . .

I’m in big trouble.

Good Morning Malibu,
I’m Noely Clark, and I have a choice to make.
The question is who will I choose; the suit, the rebel, or the jock

My Review

“All I want is someone amusing who can laugh with me, a man who can also connect with me on an intellectual level. If he happens to be handsome, with big hands, impeccable style, and a deep voice that can rock my socks off in bed, then hey, I’ll take it.”

“I want to know what he tastes like. What the scruff on his jaw feels like under my fingers, caressing the soft skin on my cheek. I want to tangle my fingers into his short hair, to grip tightly onto his neck, and not release him until I’m fully sated by his mouth.”

“How do you explain to someone that deep in your soul, you know you’re meant to be with someone? Like our meeting was kismet? Like the roller coaster of our lives came to a conversation point, at a time we weren’t ready for, but a time when we needed it the most.”

Yes! Yes! Yes!! So much love for this book! Three Blind Dates is refreshing, fun and one entertaining read. When I first came across the synopsis of this book, I just knew I had to get my hands on it and boy am I ever glad I did. This book was absolutely everything and is definitely one that I can see myself reading over and over again.

Three Blind Dates follows the story of Noely. Noely is the girl everyone can relate to. She’s smart. She’s dedicated. She’s hardworking. But, when it comes to love, she can’t help but strike out. Finding the man of her dreams seems impossible until she hears about Going in Blind. Going in Blind is all the rage and the app that swears it will find you love…Going in Blind seems like the perfect setup and once Noely starts going on dates, all bets are off. Noely is in for the adventure of a lifetime with three amazing matches. Will Noley finally find Mr. Right or will she once again strike out in love?? There is only one way to find out…

Three Blind Dates is such an amazing read. I was sucked into the story from the very first page and could not get enough of it. I was totally, completely, 100% captivated by this book. I couldn’t put it down. I fell head over heels for Noely and couldn’t wait to see how her story would play out. Like I previously stated, she is the girl that everyone can relate to and understand. She is a hopeless romantic and I honestly couldn’t wait to see if she found true love. I loved the three men that Noely was set up with. Each one was swoon worthy, but flawed in their own ways. I absolutely adored them, but there was one guy that stood out that definitely had me hoping things would go his way.

I am a sucker for romance and happy endings. And this book just hit all the marks and left me with all the feels. From fun and entertaining characters to swoon worthy “You’ve Got Mail” references. To men that made me want to pull my hair out, to a romance that was made in the stars. This book had it all and I fell head over heels for it. I loved everything about it and can not wait for more. Three Blind Dates kicks off an exciting start to the Dating By Numbers Series and I can’t wait to read more.

*I was provided an ARC copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review*

EXCERPT

I didn’t realize how close I was to the restaurant because I’m ten minutes early. Does that make me seem desperate? No, I chastise myself. It shows that I respect the other person’s time . . . right?

God, dating is the worst. There are so many unspoken rules you have to follow to not look desperate, or to not look like a psycho, or a creep, or horny, or—

“Can I help you, miss?”

Straightening up, I turn toward the hostess stand, which is a beautifully carved piece of wood. Standing behind it is an exotic, tall woman with long black hair, stunning grey eyes, and a massive engagement ring on her hand. Please tell me she got that rock from dating someone in this program.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s not that happiness for my life is dependent on getting married, but to see a success story in the flesh—particularly for me—would be encouraging.

“Hi, yes, I’m Noely Clark. I have a date at seven tonight with”—I lean forward, feeling silly and whisper—“with WindsorKnot.”

Her smile is kind and reassuring, making me feel a little calmer. “Yes, Miss Clark, I have you here for seven. You’re date hasn’t arrived yet, so can I show you to the bar for a drink while you wait?”

“That would be lovely, thank you.”

With my clutch tucked under my arm, I follow tall, dark, and beautiful to the bar where a very handsome Asian man is standing with a towel draped over his shoulder and a bright grin on his face. He’s wearing a button-up shirt with rolled sleeves, a brown vest covering his chest, which totally channels his inner Justin Timberlake.

“Danny, this is Miss Clark. She has a reservation at seven. Would you be so kind to make her whatever drink she would like?”

“Of course.” He winks at the hostess who presses her warm hand on my arm.

“Enjoy, Miss Clark. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. My name is Veronica, this is Danny, and we will be happy to serve you in any way.” With a parting grin, she moves back to her hostess spot.

Well, she’s nice.

“Miss Clark, please take a seat. What would you like?”

My tight, formfitting red dress makes my hop onto the bar stool a difficult task, but with a pleading prayer to the dress gods and a swift jump, I situate myself, only breaking a minor sweat.

I let out a sigh of relief and place my hands on the bar in front of me, scanning the glitzy bottles of “muscle relaxant.” “Hmm . . . how about a Moscow Mule?”

“Coming right up.” He gets to work and I watch as he magically floats around the bar, pulling the ingredients. “We recently bought new copper mugs, and I’ve been dying to use them.”

“Yeah? Am I the first?”

Winking, he says, “You are.”

If I didn’t know any better, I would say Danny is a bit of a flirt. Either that or he’s super friendly. Or simply made to be a bartender.

From beneath the bar, Danny pulls out a shiny, hammered-copper mug, and I’m instantly taken by the design. So sleek, just like its surroundings. The restaurant, with its white exposed brick, natural wood features, electric colors, and stone tabletops, is sexy, yet inviting. The friendly waitstaff is an absolute bonus. Every table is cornered off in its own spot, never getting too close to the other tables around it, and the mood lighting is on point with dim Edison bulb lights hanging from the ceiling and tabletop candles. I’m feeling the mood.

Despite the welcoming atmosphere, I can’t help but feel nervous, even after my brief exchange with WindsorKnot. There’s something to say about a blind date: the anticipation, the unknown, the knowledge that you’re having dinner with someone to possibly form a romantic relationship. It’s intimidating, but exhilarating all at the same time.

Could this be the last time I ever go on a first date? Will he like me? Will he want to get to know me?

Butterflies float around in my stomach and my cheeks heat as Danny places a napkin in front of me, topped by my drink with a lime slice on the side.

“Here you go, Miss Clark. Please enjoy.”

I smile politely. “Thank you.” When I take a sip, I’m instantly assaulted by the ginger-lime combination. Perfect. “This is fantastic.”

“Good.” Danny winks again and like an old-time bartender, starts drying a tumbler with the towel hanging over his shoulder. Eyeing me for a second, he asks, “A little nervous?”

After taking a sip from my drink, I lick my lips and nod. “Just a little.” I scrunch my nose, squinting ever so slightly. “Is it obvious?”

“Nah, you look pretty chill compared to a lot of blind daters I see come through the door.”

“Oh, I’m sure you see a lot of different reactions to these dates.” I lean forward, the cold wood of the bar cooling my sweaty hands, and whisper, “Any good stories you can tell me?”

Danny chuckles quietly and leans forward himself, taking a look from side to side before answering. “Plenty, but looks like your date just arrived.”

My date just arrived?

The temperature in the room seems to go up a thousand degrees as my body seizes and my shoulders tense. “Oh God, can you see him? Is he hot? What does he look like? Should I turn around? No, I shouldn’t, he would know I was checking him out.” Whispering a little louder, I ask again, “Just tell me, is he cute?”

Danny’s eyes scan over my head and his smile stretches across his face. “That’s for you to judge, not me.” Damn you, Danny.

Oh Christ, I’m not ready.

That’s right, I’m not freaking ready for this.

I get it, I know I said I was ready, that I wanted to do this, that I was all-in, that I wanted to find my soul mate, but now that I’m here, seconds from meeting “the one,” I’m pretty sure I’m going to throw up. Yep, I’m going to throw up. I can feel it rising.

Oh God, I’m going to retch all over him, right on his shoes. I know it. It’s bound to happen.

“Relax, you’re going to have fun,” Danny whispers before he turns to the bottles behind him.

As if the light hairs on my arm can sense it, they stand at attention as the sound of faint footsteps come closer.

Click, click, click. The cement floor leaves zero room for sneaking up on anyone.

Don’t throw up, don’t throw up. Think compliments, think pleasantries, think—

“Hello.”

Smooth molasses drips over my shoulders as the most velvet of voices I’ve ever heard echoes behind me, pulling me away from the death grip on my copper mug and turning me in my seat to face one of the most handsome and polished men I’ve ever seen.

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.

Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.

Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Oh and she loves a good boob squeeze!

I try to make a quiet entrance and make my way to my desk without anyone noticing Milo, but apparently my dog has other plans. He barks as soon as his beady little eyes focuses on a stranger and everyone looks over to me.

“Oh my goodness, a puppy!” Shayla squeals as she jumps from her chair and dashes over to me. “It’s so precious!”

“Can I hold it?” Carrie Jo asks, holding her hands out. I place Milo in her arms and watch as he licks her face and barks, his tiny tail wagging. “I wish I could take this cute little thing home with me! What’s its name?”

“His name is Milo,” I say as Carrie Jo passes him to Shayla. Leo and Caesar walk over.

“What’s all the fuss—OH SWEET JESUS, IT’S A PUPPY! I NEED THE PUPPY!” Leo exclaims and nearly snatches Milo from Shayla.

“Hey! I wasn’t done cuddling him!” she complains. Leo holds Milo close to his chest and scratches him behind the ears.

“Isn’t he the cutest little thing!” he says. “If I had a dog this small, I would dress it in the cutest little doggy fashion. He would be the most fashionable dog on the block.”

“I’m sure,” I say and giggle.

A throat clears behind us. “Why is everyone standing in the middle of the floor and not preparing for work?” Free Willy barks. I roll my eyes. It seems like baby Jesus is taking a little longer than I’d like in making her fall in to a sewer drain and disappearing.

Milo barks and growls, squirming in Leo’s arms. I take him back and scratch him behind the ears to calm him as Madicunt walks over to us. I know, Milo. I don’t like her either, the cunt.

“You brought a dog here?” she asks. I fight the urge to roll my eyes again. Well, yes, Captain Obvious. I think the furry animal in my arms would classify as a dog. When I don’t answer, she scoffs. “Last I checked, this isn’t a doggy daycare.”

And last time I checked, this isn’t SeaWorld, yet here she is.

“I have Gary’s permission and that’s the only person’s opinion I care about in regards to my dog,” I answer.

“He’s cute and all, but why is he here?” Caesar asks, scratching under Milo’s neck.

“Yeah, Blake, why is he here?” Madicunt repeats, standing next to Shayla and folding her arms across her chest. I almost want to slap the smirk that’s settled on her lips, but I have something that’ll do the trick.

“Well if you must know, Silas and I have something to work on this evening and there’s no telling when I’ll get back home,” I say, gauging Madame Cunt’s face. “I don’t want to leave my helpless little puppy all alone for hours when I could be gone all night. What kind of puppy mom would I be to do such a thing?”

“A project, eh?” Caesar asks and chuckles. “Is that what you kids are calling dates now?”

Before I could answer, Gary walks into the work space and claps his hand. “Okay, guys, everyone get to work,” he says and points to me. “I told you not to let that puppy be a distraction.”

“He won’t be. I promise!” I say and scurry to my desk.

Madicunt stomps off to her desk and glares at me from across the room. I bet that pea-sized brain of hers is probably churning with all kinds of thoughts as she tries to figure out what Silas and I are going to be doing. Wouldn’t be surprised if she even questions him about it. She’s such a nark.
