Book Blurb:

Life as I knew it ended the day I accepted my fate.

In its place is an existence even the wildest imagination could never fathom. Strange creatures walk among us, plotting our demise, and I’ve come to find that the fate of our world rests squarely on my shoulders. We’re all in danger and I’m trying to figure out how to make it through each day.

The key to my survival is a man I can’t figure out. As dangerous as the darkest fae, I have no choice but to work with him to stop the prophecy that’s foretold to be the ruination of mankind.

Carrick Byrne continues to be my only source of information, but he doles it out as he sees fit. He intrigues and scares me in equal measure, yet I can’t help but be attracted to him. And the more I discover about him, the more it becomes clear he feels the same.

As we travel to Faere in search of answers, we find that every piece of information leads to more questions, that every question leads to a new piece of the puzzle, and that, most importantly, no one can be trusted.

The more secrets we uncover, one thing is certain— if we have any chance of saving the world, we have to do it together.

A Discovery of Secrets and Fate is book two of the Chronicles of the Stone Veil series and is best enjoyed if read in series order.

“You’ve never cast in all the time I’ve watched you. I thought you were just more discreet than most.”

“I seriously don’t know what you’re talking about. We need to get you help.” Haley started to go for her bag, when he stopped her, his big hand sliding smoothly into hers. It was rough and cold, but something about the weight of it felt good to her.

“Can you repeat something for me?”

“Repeat something?”

“Yeah, just say what I say. And keep repeating it until I tell you to stop.”

What the hell? If it wasn’t for the plea in his eye, she would have thought he was completely gone.

“We don’t have time to waste, Haley. Can you please do this for me?” He didn’t sound irritated with her, and for some reason that made her want to do what he said.

“Okay.”

He took her hand and brought it over his side, where the blood started. She jumped, not wanting to touch it. “Just hold it above me like this.” He positioned her hand so her palm was facing him. “Soul to soul,” he said, his eyes on her. “Say that.”

“Soul to soul,” she repeated awkwardly, her lips curling inward.

“And cell to cell.”

“And cell to cell.”

He exhaled, his energy waning. “Take this being and make it well.”

A poem? He wanted her to repeat a poem to him? She was about to pull out of his hold and go get some actual help when he gave her a desperate look that shut down every impulse she had to leave.

“Take this being and make it well.”

“Again,” he prompted, his eyes floating closed as his head sank back against the wall. His fingers were feather light against her wrist as she kept her hand hovering inches from him.

She repeated the rhyme again and he nodded. She spoke once more and saw his lips moving in time with hers, his voice so low she couldn’t hear it.

He let go of her, his hand falling heavily into his lap, but the warmth from his fingers lingered. He was fading out on her, and panic was starting to settle in. He was the only one who knew what had just happened to Penny. She needed him to help her get her sister back. She needed his help, even if she didn’t know him. She started to go faster. Repeating the phrase over and over.

Where he’d held her hand, the skin began to grow hot, a tingling in her palm like she’d let it fall asleep and it was starting to wake back up. The sensation grew, traveling up her arm. It was strange and uncomfortable, but not painful, so she kept going. It seemed impossible, but the color in his face was returning, his shaky breathing easing back to normal.

But then his lips stopped moving. This wasn’t working. She was about to give up when his hand reached up to hers, the second their fingers touched a burst of heat arched out of her and sent her flying backward. His eyes flew open and he darted, catching her before her head hit the concrete. He held her there, suspended in his arms for a long minute, his eyes searching hers. Finally, a breath rushed out of him. “Thank you.”

“Thank me? What the hell was that?” He leaned back onto his heels, letting her take her own weight.

In a flash of daring, she grabbed for his shirt and pulled it up, the blood-soaked fabric was cold and sticky on her fingers, but the skin underneath was intact. A long scar curved from his side down to his hip, and blood was dried all around it, but the wound was completely closed. She reached to touch it, her fingers shaking, but stopped and jerked her hand back.

“What the hell?” Dropping his shirt, she leaned away from him. “Who are you?”

He stood, extending a hand down to her and waiting until she took it. Pulling her up, he looked her square in the eye as he took a deep breath. “My name is Lucas.”

I always knew I was different.

From a young age, my mind has been plagued with things only I could see. Some hauntingly beautiful, others completely terrifying. Never knowing if these visions were real or just hallucinations, I learned how to lock them down and ignore them. I learned to take solace in the relative anonymity of city life and find peace in the rainy days my city of Seattle is known for.

But just when I think my life is getting on track and my dreams are achievable, a moment of weakness causes me to learn a hard and fast lesson.

My entire existence has been a lie.

Now I’m faced with a new reality that’s as implausible as it is fantastical. Filled with realms and veils, light and dark, fae and daemons, gods and angels—things I don’t understand but am forced to acknowledge. It doesn’t help that the man teaching me about my unique gifts is the gorgeously handsome Carrick Byrne, one of Seattle’s richest and most powerful men. He intimidates, annoys, and intrigues me all at the same time. I don’t trust him and yet there’s no one else to help me.

EXCERPT

The venue room is gorgeous, one entire side showcasing a curved floor-to-ceiling glass aquarium filled with colorful fish and amazing corals. There are a lot of people here already and after nabbing a flute of champagne from a passing waiter, I start to search for Carrick. Because of his height, it’s not difficult to rule people out, but after making one trip around the room, I still haven’t found him.

Rather than do it again, I decide to move off to a semi-quiet space so I can observe people as they mingle, drink, and move along the catered tables of posh food. While I wait for Carrick to make an appearance, I use the opportunity to check my abilities in such a large crowd, as there has to be easily four hundred people milling about.

As I had been practicing my abilities the last few weeks—learning to hone in on vibes first—I had also learned the reverse. In other words, I could lock my senses down if I wanted some peace and didn’t want to be assaulted by vibes just out of the blue. I mostly use it at work, choosing to be ignorant of what hides under my patrons’ faces so my workday isn’t ruined.

Inhaling through my nose, I imagine my chest opening as I exhale and give a silent invitation for the slightest omen to come in. The minute I do, I get a tingly feeling in my belly and then immediately look to the source… a pretty brunette woman five feet to my right. Based on feeling alone, I’m confident she’s a Light Fae or daemon because of the pleasant vibe. Still, as Carrick has said, we’ve not yet proven if my intuitions can truly distinguish Light from Dark. I mean, personally… I think my gut and sight match up, but I’m willing to continue experimenting so we can be sure.

Opening my senses fully, I peel her glamour away, realizing immediately she’s fae because she has no aura. I try not to stare as she’s quite beautiful and not all that inhuman looking. Her skin is much paler and appears as if it’s been dusted with crushed diamonds. Her eyes remain the same shape, tilting upward at the outer corner just a tad too much, but they’re filled with what looks like liquid silver where the whites of human eyes would be. She has definitive irises of verdant green. Her hair is as black as midnight, and it falls almost to the middle of her back. She’s thin and delicate, and I almost laugh in delight when she tucks a lock of hair behind her ear to find that it’s pointed at the top.

Is she an elf? Is that even a thing?

Mesmerized, I watch as she talks to a human male companion, wondering if fae and humans have love affairs. I haven’t thought about that until now, but I suppose it’s a possibility. Her companion says something to make her laugh, and my romantic side is fully invested in this couple until she laughs, and razor-sharp teeth are revealed. Not just where her canines are, but every single tooth is conical and pointy, graying slightly at the gum line.

“Better close your mouth before something flies in it.” It’s a deep, sophisticated voice I’ve come to recognize and with dismay, I realize it sometimes causes my skin to tingle.

Twisting, I see Carrick standing there looking unbelievably dashing in a black tuxedo with a white tie. His eyes flick to the fae I’d been looking at and then back to me. “She’s not the type to bite people, but she does eat raw meat and thus the reason for the sharp teeth.”

I can’t help whipping my head her way. It’s such a sudden move that it catches her attention. She gives me a tentative smile, and I force myself not to stare at her teeth. Instead, I motion to her gown. “I was just telling my date how much I love your dress.”

The woman tilts her head, her smile now warm. “Oh, thank you. It’s Givenchy.”

“Just stunning,” I assure her with a nod before turning back to Carrick. Leaning slightly into him, I whisper, “Will I ever stop being stunned at what I see?”

To my surprise, he chuckles, and I soak in the sound of natural laughter from him. It’s the first time I’ve heard him laugh in a way that wasn’t forced or didn’t have some condescension in it. It’s one of the most human things he’s done, and it’s disconcerting to say the least.

He shakes his head. “Sorry… but you’ve not seen a lot of Dark Fae. There are some pretty hideous creatures out there. You need to work on your poker face.”

Ellie Pond has revealed the cover for Wicked Water!

Releasing March 12, 2021

There’s a lot of fish in the sea . . .

I’m lucky. I know I’ve had it good. I have a loving mother and three loving fathers. And I’m the crown princess of Skyrothasia, the Caribbean gem hidden from humans and shifters. Someday I’ll replace my mother and become Queen Melody. I’ve learned languages, political strategy, and how to fight as if I was a merman, not a mermaid.

And although I haven’t started my own royal pod, I will, eventually. The mermen are swarming for my attention, and it gives me apprehension at picking the right ones–the males who want me for me and not only to be one of our four kings.

When danger arises, I’m sent away with Harrison, my BFF’s cousin and the merman everyone, including me, thinks will be my first pod mate.

She’s the siren I want . . .
I’ve wanted to be part of Melody’s pod since I was old enough to think about her as more than my cousin’s best friend.

Now we’re racing towards Boston, assassins on our tails. We’re being followed by a pushy dragon body guard, hired by her parental pod. In the last six years of university I’ve made a lot friends, I’ll miss them when my dissertation is done. Until then, I’m hoping my best friends, a wolf shifter and another merman, can help us out.

Wicked Water is a reverse harem, why choose book, in which the heroine gets to have all of her guys. It has explicit content and language, a cliffhanger, and no cheating. This four-book series takes place in the Dark Wing world with a HEA.

In ninety-two days, the feathered appendages that link me to the people I loathe finally come off. Dear, winglets, you will not be missed.

Celeste has spent the last four years building a life outside of angelic guilds—parties, check—pursuing human ambitions instead of celestial ones—college, check—and shedding feathers across Parisian cobblestones and more recently New York sidewalks—speaking her mind, always check.

She swore off angels, but the death of the woman who took her in the night Leigh died brings them soaring back into her life . . . and not just any angel but the most detestable one, the one complicit in Leigh’s death—Seraph Asher.

Although Celeste tells the archangel to feather off, the unreasonably pretty and obstinate man doesn’t leave her alone. He returns and insists she complete her wings. When she asks him for one good reason to do so, he gives her an unbeatable one: what he did with Leigh’s soul.

Asher never meant to share his damning secret, but he knows it’s the only way to save Celeste—the rebellious Fletching he can’t get out of his head . . . or heart.

“I didn’t know the golden boy of Elysium had it in him to mislead poor, unsuspecting fletchings.”
Asher rolled his eyes. Actually rolled them, like one minute his pupils were directed on me, and then they were on the inky sky. “I’d hardly call you poor or unsuspecting, Celeste.”
I smiled.
Once his eyeballs leveled back on my face, the archangel’s expression transformed into a softer one that made him seem amicable. But that look was all smoke and mirrors.
Asher wasn’t kind. He was the powerful brute who’d stolen my best friend.
He must’ve sensed the direction of my thoughts because his smile vanished, and he sighed. “What did I do now?”
“It’s not what you did now; it’s what you did then. I can’t forget and I can’t forgive.”
When I walked away this time, he didn’t follow.

Posted on

It’s that time of year again! As you know, there is nothing more that I love then challenging myself when it comes to the books I read. Whether it’s a new author, series, a genre that takes me out of my comfort zone or being able to tackle some books that have been on my tbr for far too long; I live for a good reading challenge. Review: The Prophecy Trilogy by Victoria Jayne

Having a choice and having a good choice are two very different things…

The players of the prophecy are all in place. The vampire, the werewolf, and the witch. The fate of all paranormal beings hangs in the balance.

Too bad Divina, the witch in question, wants nothing to do with any of it.

She’s not about to let some ancient prophecy dictate who she’s going to love. She’ll be the master of her own destiny, thank you very much.

But the intense connection she feels to each of her sexy prophecy counterparts is making it difficult to avoid potential magical disaster.

And as everything continues to get more and more complicated, she’s starting to wonder—is she really the witch of the prophecy? Or is she something else entirely?

MY REVIEW

The Witch of the Prophecy is a fast-paced paranormal romance and is the first book in the Prophecy Trilogy. The Witch of the Prophecy really sets the scene and gives a great introduction to the characters. I think this series has a lot of potential and I’m looking forward to seeing how it will all come together in the end.

Rating: 3 Stars

Mistakes were made. Now it’s time to pay the price.

Werewolf Aric is losing his mind—literally. The incomplete mate bond with Divina is slowly killing him, and soon, it’ll become unbearable for her, too. He’s determined to do whatever it takes to make things right with his one true love.

Now all he has to do is find her.

But when his witch slips up and risks exposing the paranormal world to humans, Aric will need to do the unthinkable to save her and every other magical being on the planet.

He’ll have to work with the vampire of the prophecy, who just happens to be his mate’s ex.

Mistakes were made. He made them. And if the price of atonement is more than Aric’s able to pay?

Well, he’ll destroy that bridge when (and if) he gets to it…

MY REVIEW

This book picks up right where the last one left off and dives even deeper into the prophecy. I’m usually not a huge fan of love triangles, but this one worked rather well for me. I loved the push and pull, the angst of making the right decision. The characters had great chemistry and made it super hard for this reader to decide whom to root for. I’m looking forward to seeing what will happen with this prophecy and how everything will come together in the end.

A choice was made. Now it’s time to reap the rewards…or suffer the consequences…

It was all happening according to plan. Rori chose power over love, and as a result, put himself in the running to be the next emperor of all vampires. Then someone threatened to expose his witch (along with all other paranormal creatures) to humans…unless he gave up his claim to the throne, that is.

That’s when everything fell apart.

The Council has no idea what Rori did to keep Divina safe, and if they find out, the consequences will be deadly. It’ll take all his power, connections, and the help of his loyal guard to protect everyone and everything he holds dear.

But with time running out and enemies circling, can Rori survive long enough to complete the prophecy and maybe—just maybe—get a second chance at true love while he’s at it?

MY REVIEW

A fantastic ending to a really intriguing series. This book had lots of twists, turns, and moments I didn’t see coming. I really enjoyed the romance and paranormal elements. My only complaint is that I would have loved a little bit more from the ending. While it does wrap things up, it still felt a bit open-ended.

Overall I enjoyed this series and am glad to have checked it out!

4 Stars!
