Emma Scott has revealed the cover for The Sinner!

Releasing: August 15, 2021

Cover Design: Lori Jackson Designs

Shy, introverted Lucy Dennings lives a quiet little life in New York City, working for a nonprofit and keeping to herself. Every afternoon, she goes home to her empty apartment and Edgar, her houseplant, and every night, she loses herself in the pages of her beloved romance novels. Her lonely heart seeks solace in tales of passionate, enduring, all-consuming love, but more and more, Lucy feels she’s not just reading for pleasure but searching for her a lost piece of herself in the pages. As if she once touched something beautiful but it’s been ripped away.

Until one day Lucy discovers a dead body in the alley behind her apartment. Even if it’s too late, her first instinct is to help.

Her second is to run.

Because the dead body isn’t so very dead, and suddenly, her little world isn’t so little but one in which dreams feel like memories, “inner demons” actually lurk in dark alleys, and a beautiful creature of darkness with amber eyes and wings like night might hold the key to what her heart has been aching for…if she doesn’t fall down the path of eternal damnation first.

From USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author, Emma Scott, comes an emotional paranormal love story of passion, sacrifice, and the soul-deep love of a lifetime…more than one.

Review: Last Guard by Nalini Singh

New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh returns to a world devastated by change in her award-winning Psy-Changeling Trinity series, where two people defined by their aloneness hold the fate of the Psy in their hands…

Termed merciless by some, and a robotic sociopath by others, Payal Rao is the perfect Psy: cardinal telekinetic, CEO of a major conglomerate, beautiful—and emotionless.

For Canto Mercant, family and loyalty are everything. A cardinal telepath deemed “imperfect” by his race due to a spinal injury, Canto cares for the opinions of very few—and ruthlessly protects those he claims as his own. Head of intel of the influential Mercant family, he prefers to remain a shadow in the Net, unknown and unseen. But Canto is also an Anchor, part of a secretive designation whose task it is to stabilize the PsyNet. Now that critical psychic network is dying, threatening to collapse and kill the entire Psy race with it.

To save those he loves, Canto needs the help of a woman bound to him by a dark past neither has been able to forget. A woman who is the most powerful Anchor of them all: Payal Rao. Neither is ready for the violent inferno about to ignite in the PsyNet…or the passionate madness that threatens to destroy them both.

MY REVIEW

Last Guard is the 5th book in the Psy-Changeling Trinity Series and it follows the story of Canto and Payal. Overall, I thought this book was an ok read. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it either. Last Guard hits the ground running and never looks back. This book had a lot going on and didn’t hold back. From an intriguing plot-line to characters you can’t help but root for, this reader couldn’t help but fly through this story.

Canto and Payal are really intriguing characters. I enjoyed getting to know them and their story. I really liked the two of them together and looked forward to seeing how their story would play out. I will say, because this book is heavily plot-driven, the romance isn’t as much as a star as I’d like it to be. Yes, the romance was there and I enjoyed Canto and Payal together, but I was left feeling disappointed because I didn’t connect with them as much as I was hoping for and wasn’t left with the feels and emotions I had anticipated.

My other issue or concern with the Last Guard was the amount of information being thrown at the reader. OMG was there a lot going on in this book! Now, don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with a plot-driven book, but sometimes when there is so much going on, it makes it hard to keep up with/keep track of and it becomes overwhelming.

While a really interesting read, the Last Guard is one of those books that will be a hit for some and a miss for others. I really wanted to love this book, but in the end this book was just an ok read for this reader. Even though this story wasn’t a 100% hit for me, I’m still glad to have given it a try.

English rockstar Elijah Webb is more than meets the eye. Being different might have made his childhood hell, but as an adult it’s opened doors to fame and fortune … and the supernatural underworld. Now that he knows all about the creatures that go bump in the night, Elijah’s pretty sure he’s a warlock. Powerful than most, but a warlock, nonetheless.
What else could he be, right?

Vampire Echo Payne is more than happy to infiltrate Elijah’s life to uncover whether the rockstar is one of the seven fae-borne prophesied to open the gate to Faerie. Having encountered one of his kind before, she knows he’s fae as soon as they meet. Her adoptive father, William, might want her to kill Elijah, but Echo has other plans now that she knows William is the monster who destroyed her family. She plans to end William Payne’s reign of terror and save her sister from the same fate she herself endured. But Echo needs Elijah’s help. Who cares about the blazing attraction that flares between them? Not Echo. She needs his fae gifts, not his addictive kisses.

When Elijah discovers Echo’s deception and the truth about what he is, he wants nothing but to protect his human parents. To do that, he has to trust the sexy vampire he can’t help but wish wanted him as much as she wanted revenge. Together they will travel across continents to help the other protect those they hold dearest and in doing so discover how deeply entwined their destinies really are…

For a peaceful future together might just be in the cards if Echo can let go of the past. But to win it, they will have to join forces with the other fae and their mates. It will take all of them to bring down their enemies. And if they fail, no one can save the human world from the darkness of Faerie.

A Fate of Wrath & Flame by K.A. Tucker is now live!

Gifted thief Romeria has flourished from her days as a street kid pilfering wallets to survive. Now she thrives, stealing jewels from the rich under the involuntary employ of New York City’s most notorious crime boss. But when an enigmatic woman secures her services at swordpoint, Romeria is plunged into a startling realm of opposing thrones, warring elven, and elemental magic she cannot begin to fathom.

Her quest is straightforward: Steal a stone from Islor’s sacred garden without anyone discovering her true identity, which would earn her certain death. Her betrothed, the newly crowned King Zander, detests her with every grain of his handsome being. Fortunately for Romeria, she is more valuable to him alive than dead. Zander gives her a choice: life in a cell, or an acquittal of all charges in exchange for her help in exposing the growing plot against him.

Romeria sees no other option and embraces the tricky role of smitten queen-to-be until she can escape, a ruse that brings her far closer to the king than she anticipated and threatens more than her safety. As she digs deeper into this sacred garden and the ancient feud between Ybaris and Islor, she discovers monstrous truths that could spell ruin for all.

It’s time to meet my destiny.

Kymaris has everything she needs to bring down the veil between Earth and the Underworld. If she’s successful in completing the ritual, Earth will be darkened by evil. Demons will swarm our lands and the human race will be decimated.

It’s up to me to stop her.

My fate is to thwart the prophecy, but I’m not sure what to do. While I may have some gifts, I am still merely a human facing the queen of the Dark Fae who holds unimaginable power.

But I have something she doesn’t. Something she could never comprehend.

I have love.

Deep, abiding love which gives me the strength and courage to face down evil. Family, friends, and unexpected allies, who will stand shoulder to shoulder with me against this enemy. Should I fail, they are prepared to go down with me, but only after we have given our all.

My sacrifice may destroy everything I am. Fate may require my demise. But if that happens, I will leave this realm without regret, knowing that I have loved and been loved in return.

EXCERPT

“Game isn’t over until the final buzzer sounds,” Maddox points out.

“That’s right,” Zaid says confidently. “We have nineteen days until the new moon. Anything can happen.”

“One thing must happen,” I say, setting my sandwich down as I slowly scan around the island so I can meet every eye. “We have to go rescue Zora. Now.”

No one says a word.

They all have varying opinions, and they stay silent because we’ve hashed them all out already.

Carrick, the one who has been the most skeptical of my sister, breaks the silence. “Agreed. That has to be our priority.”

Rainey looks appalled, but everyone else is immediately accepting as evidenced by their nods and determined expressions. She sees it, too, so she says nothing.

“Everyone should be relatively safe here,” Carrick continues. “Without the Blood Stone in residence, there’s no reason for Kymaris to assault us here. She’s made enough references to settling the score with Finley on the ritual battlefield, so to speak, that I think it’s safe here.”

“Plus, she’s in hiding,” Myles points out. “Along with all her minions.”

“I’ll reach out to Kaesar,” Boral says from the end of the counter where he’d parked his stool beside Maddox. “The worst that will happen is he won’t answer my calls.”

Being able to get inside information now is a long shot. Boral was invaluable through his connection to Kaesar, but I suspect everyone in Kymaris’ camp is keeping their heads down and circling the wagons tight.

But that doesn’t mean Boral’s useless.

I lean in his direction, having to look past Rainey and Myles to do so. “You’re our expert on the Underworld. You’ll have to be the one who guides us.”

Boral nods. “As I told you when we were in Micah’s realm, I’ll be glad to help.”

For the first time since I can remember, Zaid doesn’t scoff at something his father says. He’s normally extremely dubious of Boral’s intentions, and he never minds being vocal about it. Instead, he just studies his father with an almost detached curiosity, as if he might believe that some good can come from the Dark Fae.

“Should we go in through Micah’s realm?” Carrick’s lower hand comes to my back, perhaps as a quiet means of support that he doesn’t mind me taking the lead on the planning, or, more likely, because he just wants to touch me. Regardless, I like it.

Boral considers my question. “What you have to know about the Underworld is it is so vast that you could travel through it for a hundred years and not see it all. The Underworld is even more vast than the Earth realm.”

I blink in surprise, thinking of the time I projected into Zora through a dream. It seemed like a massively big city inside an even larger underground cave, but I hadn’t considered there was more.

“The Crimson River leads to The Pit, which is close to Kymaris’ castle. It would be easy to get there, but then how would you even find your sister?”

My heart sinks as I realize our first obstacle is a doozy. “When I projected into her during the dream, the city she was in was near The Pit. I could see the glow of it from there.”

Boral’s smile is grim. “That’s the city of Otaxis. One of the largest. Making it there isn’t the problem. Searching through the thousands of Dark Fae to find your sister will be, though.”

Growling in frustration, I lean away from the counter and cross my arms over my chest. I stare blankly at the rest of my sandwich before turning to Carrick. “I can contact her again. Tell her we’re coming.”

“And put her on notice, so she has monsters waiting for you when you arrive?” Rainey says mildly. She’s clearly still against this plan.

“I’m going to be a human walking in the Underworld,” I say as I glance her way. “It’s going to be dangerous no matter what.”

“You’ll have two demi-gods at your side,” Maddox points out. “Our combined magic alone should give us somewhat of a safe passage.”

It’s something I haven’t been all that worried about.

My safety in the Underworld, that is.

I’ve been so focused on getting Zora out that I had not stopped to consider how I’d do it without getting killed. I am quite literally stepping into Hell, and I will be walking among the most evil of creatures.

Review: The Kindred Spirits Supper Club by Amy E. Reichert

Review: The Kindred Spirits Supper Club by Amy E. Reichert

Jobless and forced home to Wisconsin, journalist Sabrina Monroe can tolerate reunions with frenemies and kisses from old boyfriends, but not the literal ghosts that greet her in this heartwarming tale of the power of love and connection from acclaimed author Amy E. Reichert.

For Sabrina Monroe, moving back home to the Wisconsin Dells–the self-described Waterpark Capital of the World–means returning to the Monroe family curse: the women in her family can see spirits who come to them for help with unfinished business. But Sabrina’s always redirected the needy spirits to her mom, who’s much better suited for the job. The one exception has always been Molly, a bubbly rom-com loving ghost, who stuck by Sabrina’s side all through her lonely childhood.

Her personal life starts looking up when Ray, the new local restaurateur, invites Sabrina to his supper club, where he flirts with her over his famous Brandy Old-Fashioneds. He’s charming and handsome, but Sabrina tells herself she doesn’t have time for romance–she needs to focus on finding a job. Except the longer she’s in the Dells, the harder it is to resist her feelings for Ray. Who can turn down a cute guy with a fondness for rescue dogs and an obsession with perfecting his fried cheese curds recipe?

When the Dells starts to feel like home for the first time and with Ray in her corner, Sabrina begins to realize that she can make a difference and help others wherever she is.

MY REVIEW

I fell in love with this author’s writing a few years ago when I read The Coincidence of Coconut Cake. So when I heard about The Kindred Spirits Supper Club, I just knew I had to get my hands on this book. And let me tell you, this book did not disappoint. It was fun, unique, and undeniably sweet.

The Kindred Spirits Supper Club follows the story of Sabrina and Ray. Sabrina’s life is anything but ordinary. You see, the woman in her family can see and talk to spirits. They’re tasked with helping those who have unfinished business. Sabrina has always seen her ability as a hindrance and wants nothing more than to be normal. The last thing Sabrina planned on was Ray. Sabrina knows she should focus on getting her life together, but staying away from Ray just isn’t an option….

Overall, I thought this book was a really cute read. This story was well written and paced just right. I thought the plot of the story was really unique and I really enjoyed all of the supernatural elements. The characters were genuine and easy to connect with. I thought the author did a really great job handling Sabrina’s past and her anxiety. I absolutely adored Ray. He accepted Sabrina for who she was and made Sabrina see herself in a more comfortable light. Ray had a genuine heart and I couldn’t wait to see how his and Sabrina’s story would play out.

The Kindred Spirits Supper Club is a fabulous read, from beginning to end. If you’re like me, you’re going to devour this book in just a single sitting and you’re going to love every single moment of it. This book was an absolute joy to read and I can’t wait to see what this author will have in store for us readers next!

MY REVIEW

“No risk is too great, no is anything too sacred. Because she is my everything. There is nothing grater than her, and I do mean nothing.”

“The heart doesn’t care how long you may have been with someone.” “It just cares that you have the person for as long as you can.”

At 600+ pages The Crown of Gilded Bones hits the ground running, and is filled with a lot of great story-building, shocking surprises, answers to our burning questions, and is going to take readers on one heck of a wild ride.

The Crown of Gilded Bones was everything that I was hoping for and then some. This book picks up right where A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire left off and doesn’t hold back. I didn’t it was possible to love Casteel and Poppy more than I already do, but Jennifer Armentrout gave me a million more reasons to love them. Casteel and Poppy are #couplegoals! Their chemistry and passion for one another are off the charts and I simply can’t get enough of it. They are the ultimate power couple, a force to be reckoned with….

In The Crown of Gilded Bones, we get a lot of answers and are left with a handful more. I loved seeing all of the pieces come together and all of the omg moments. This story kept me on the edge of my, wondering what would happen next. I’ll be honest with you, I had no idea how things were going to play out and I loved it. I loved all of the surprises, twists, and jaw-dropping moments.

The Crown of Gilded Bones exceed my expectations and was a thrilling ride right to the very end. The ending was fantastic and in my opinion, is just a taste of what’s to come. The stage has been set. Tensions are extremely high. I’m on pins and needles dying to know how this is all going to play out in the end. One thing I know for certain, Jennifer Armentrout is going to hit me with all of the feels and keep me helplessly glued to the pages.

In the end, all I can say is, settle in, cancel your plans, and curl up with this fantastic book. Your world is about to be rocked and I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I did.

Book Blurb:

Another day, another step closer to Hell on Earth being unleashed.

With every piece that falls into place for the queen of the Underworld, Kymaris gains strength and power that will make it more difficult to defeat her when the time comes. It feels as if we’re in a desperate race to get just one step ahead of her, but my demise feels closer than it ever has before with still so much to do.

The first order of business is to unlock the angelic powers with which I was gifted at birth, and Carrick insists on getting help from my archnemesis to do so. Yes, I have to save the world, but my priority has now become rescuing my sister from the Underworld. While there are many questions still to be answered about my long-lost twin, I know I will not win this battle without her by my side.

In the midst of all the doom and gloom, Carrick has become my beacon of shining light. Our connection unimaginable, my heart recognizes his as the other half of its whole. Inexplicable and deeper than one could ever imagine, the love I hold for him is forged by destiny, however ill-fated it may turn out to be.

And those are the feelings I must hold close…to keep me going. Because a painful lesson is on the horizon—betrayal never comes from your enemies.

A Battle of Blood and Stone is book four of the Chronicles of the Stone Veil series and is best enjoyed if read in series order.

EXCERPT

The minute Boral leaves Carrick’s condo, Maddox asks, “Feel like blowing off some steam?”

I had thought he meant a workout in the gym, and I was game for that. So I say, “Sure.”

But rather than heading toward the gym, Maddox pivots in the opposite direction and leads me to the southwest side of the condo. It’s an area I don’t go to a lot as it holds a guest suite identical to mine and another guest bedroom.

Maddox opens a door I had thought was a utility closet, and I gasp when I realize it’s a man-cave.

Dark paneled walls and gleaming hardwood floors, but the decor is distinctly different than the cool blues, light creams, and silvery grays throughout the rest of the condo. Persian rugs in crimson, navy, and beige are scattered under various pieces of furniture. There’s a pool table, a bar to seat eight, a poker table, and even a dartboard. One wall boasts a flat-screen TV so large I can’t even begin to fathom how big it is, and it’s sectioned off with a massive U-shaped couch in cocoa brown, distressed leather with ornate carved clawed feet.

It was the antithesis of the rest of the condo, and not just because it’s designed to serve men and their desires for liquor, football, and cigars. It’s just overly staid in my opinion.

“Holy shit,” I murmur as I follow Maddox in. “I had no clue this was even here.”

He plops down in the middle of the couch, then reaches for a remote control. “I brought over my PS4. I thought you and I could practice our battle skills in a more chilled sort of way.”

I snort as I take in the handheld gaming controls, the only reason that I recognize them is that Myles is a big gamer. He waves one at me provocatively and then nods to the cushion beside him.

“Come on, Finley,” he urges with a gleam in his eye. “Take a load off for a while and come spend just half an hour with me blowing shit up.”

Playing video games just isn’t my thing, but it’s better than sitting around and letting my mind become overwhelmed with planning, contingencies, and what-ifs. It would actually do me good just to take a brain break.

“Okay,” I reply almost giddily, moving to the couch and hopping the back of it to land on the cushion beside Maddox. He hands me a controller and says, “We’ll play Final Fantasy VII. You’ll love it.”

I wait as he boots up the game, studying the controller. I assume he’ll give me a lesson on what the buttons do.

“Does Carrick even come in here?” I ask as I kick my tennis shoes off and cross my legs.

“He used to PF,” Maddox says as the game starts to load.

“PF?”

“Pre-Finley.” He grins at me, then takes the controller I’m holding out of my hand. “But only to have a drink, conduct business, or maybe play some poker with friends.”

“But Carrick doesn’t have friends,” I point out. “And why hasn’t he come in here since I came into his life?”

“You are correct… Carrick doesn’t have friends. Maybe I should have said business acquaintances. And I imagine he doesn’t use this room very much these days as he hasn’t had much downtime since you came into his life wreaking havoc.”

I know he’s teasing, so I bump my shoulder against his good naturedly. “Well, maybe I can convince him to play a few games of pool. I’m really good, and I’m not above hustling him.”

“It’s a good thing I’m not a sucker then,” Carrick’s voice sounds from behind us. Maddox and I both twist to look at the door to find Carrick standing there casually, one arm raised and his hand resting against the jamb slightly above his head. The smile on his face is amused.

“You’re back,” I exclaim, pushing up from the couch. I was looking forward to unwinding a little with Maddox, but if it’s a choice between time with him or Carrick, I’m going to choose Carrick every time.

It seems just so natural, despite the fact I know Maddox is watching, to walk right up to Carrick and kiss him.

Or perhaps it’s him who is kissing me.

Regardless, my lips are happy for that brief connection, and I take stock of the fact I’m infinitely happier at this moment than I was a mere thirty seconds ago hanging out with Maddox, and I was pretty damn happy then.

There’s no getting around it.

Carrick just does it for me in all ways.
