New Year. New Reading Challenge.

It’s that time of year again! As you know, there is nothing more that I love than challenging myself when it comes to the books I read. Whether it’s a new author, series, a genre that takes me out of my comfort zone, or being able to tackle some books that have been on my tbr for far too long; I live for a good reading challenge. The past few years, I stepped up my game not only with the books that I read but also by attempting to clear out that never-ending to-read list. As always, my challenges have been hard, but a ton of fun at the same time.

Year In Review: Top Reads of 2021!

Year In Review: Top Reads of 2021!

2021 has been another crazy and stressful year that has thankfully left us with a lot of good reads and hopeful for 2022. Despite all of the challenges 2021 brought us, it has been one heck of a year for amazing reads. This year, I read over 387 books, discovered lots of “new to me” authors, and trying to narrow that list down was tough. I have just read so many amazing, life-changing, blow me away, knock my socks off books. Amazingly enough, this year, I was able to keep my list below 16. These 16 books have given me all the feels. They’ve made me laugh, cry, swoon, and taken me on some of the best journeys.

I hope you enjoy my top 16 and the quotes I’ve pulled….

Focused by Karla Sorensen

There was a pause before he delivered on his promise of fast and hard, both adjectives equally as exciting to me, and at that moment, his eyes held mine. This matters.”

The Bluff by Willa Nash

I wanted it to be real. With every passing day, I wanted to belong to someone special and have that someone special belong to me.”

“Hux owned every memory of Calamity, even the ones before we’d met. Because they’d all lead me to him.”

Beneath The Stars by A.L. Jackson

“Be with me for now, Rhys. Tell me that right now, I belong to you and you belong to me. I feel your burden, I feel your heart, and I know you’ll never love me, and I know we’re not supposed to pretend, but I need it, Rhys. I need to feel this for a bit. We never know how long we have, and this is the first true, real thing I’ve ever had.”

Close Quarters by Kandi Steiner

“I don’t care about your past. I don’t care about mine. Nothing else matters to me, other than the future you and I can make together. And I know what I said about my lifestyle the other night,” he said, pulling back to look me in the eyes. “But we will find a way. We will make it work. Because if I’ve learned one thing this summer, it’s that now that I know you exist in this world, I cannot live without you existing in mine, too.”

Eastern Lights by Brittainy C. Cherry

“He stood there completely broken. He showed me his hurts and laid them there to bleed in the open. I saw his fear, I saw his panic, but mostly I saw his love. Love didn’t only show its face during happiness. It didn’t skip by only during the sunshine. No. Sometimes—most of the time—love was a storm at war. Love explored the world during the darkness. It crawled through pain, fought through combats, and hit rock bottom with a million battle scars. Love wasn’t only the rainbows. Love sparked in the lightning and screamed during the thunder. In that very moment, love rained down over Connor, and his love was being directed straight toward me. Raw. Unleashed. True.”

To Have and To Hate by RS Grey

“It was an I-hate-you kiss. Haven’t you ever had one of those?” “I have no idea what that is.” “It’s a kiss not born out of love, but out of hate.” “Yeah, thanks. That’s evident in the name. I’m just confused because I don’t go around kissing people I hate.”

For Keeps. For Always. By Haley Jenner

I don’t love anything that can cause me pain. Especially people. But I’ll learn to tolerate you.”

The Songbook of Benny Lament by Amy Harmon

“May we seek to learn each other’s stories so that we might love each other a little better.”

“None of us can help who we are. We are born into the world we are born into. The family. The skin. Nobody gets to choose those things. You can’t be mad at a man for who he is. Only what he is…and the choices he makes.”

The Dead List by JLA

“I want to be that guy – the one that when your phone rings, you hope it’s me. The one who holds your hand in the hallway and at lunch. The guy who gets to hold you. I want to be the one who gets to touch you,” he whispered against my cheek. “I want to be yours”.”

“You’re the first girl I’ve ever fallen in love with, Ella, and you’ll be the last girl I ever love”

Blame it on the Tequila by Fiona Cole

“I’m not letting you slip through my fingers again.”

Sancte Diaboli: Part Two by Amo Jones

“The only thing worse than knowing you love someone irrevocably is feeling your sanity leave your soul anytime he looks at you.”

“You give a villain something worth fighting for and he’ll burn the whole fucking world to ash just to hear her heartbeat one more time.”

“Death is the experience you feel when you lose someone you love; pain in just the aftershock.”

Broken French by Tasha Boyd

“You have given life to a dead heart and soul. You brought me back to life. Hungry and gasping and desperate … for you. My heart beating … for you. No.” He frowned. “It’s as if it didn’t exist before you. I’m alive now in this world that might not have you in it? No. It’s impossible. I don’t want the world to turn another day, the sun to burn another day without you.”

The Mixtape by Brittainy Cherry

“I don’t know if you meant to do that or if it’s just natural for you, but sometimes you speak, and it feels like you’re creating lyrics to my next favorite song.”

“We only get this one life. We might as well make some good memories with it”

“Sometimes family isn’t what we were born into—it’s what we choose”

“It’s not about the songs you’ve played in the past to yourself. It’s about the songs you want to play from this point out. So, what song are you going to play?”

The Baraginer Series by Laura Thalassa

“I’ve loved you from the beginning. And I will love you long after the last star dies. I will love you until the end of darkness itself.”

“I would steal the stars from the sky for you”

“He’s the dark side of the moon. He’s my beautiful, terrible mystery. My friend. My soulmate.”

The Dark Legacy Series by Tate James & Jaymin Eve

“I knew the first time I caught sight of you, Butterfly, that you were going to be trouble.”

“I’m Riley Jameson, not Deboise, and don’t you ever forget it.”

“Sometimes the enemy you know is better than the one you don’t.”

“You’re going to be the death of me, Riles,” Jasper complained as I hurried across the freezing parking lot behind him. “Do you have any idea how badly I’m going to get chewed out for taking your side over Beck’s? He’s going to kill me. Oh my god, I just committed suicide for a chick with nice tits.”

“I’m bossy because I fucking love you, Butterfly. I’m not letting anyone take you away from me. But … if it was important to you, I wouldn’t have stood in your way. I would have just made sure that we were prepared for anything. I would have had backup.” He reached out and cupped my face, his hand rough and soft at the same time. “I won’t stand in your way, baby, but I will stand at your side, where I belong.”

Out of the Blue by P. Dangelico

“Life comes at you fast and love comes out of the blue”

Truth is loving you is the easiest thing I’ve ever done. As easy as breathing.”

Year in Review: Top Reads of 2020!

2020 has been one crazy and stressful year, a year I think we’d all like to put behind us. That being said, 2020 has been one heck of a year for amazing reads. This year, I read over 450 books, discovered lots of “new to me” authors and trying to narrow that list down was tough. I have just read so many amazing, life changing, blow me away, knock my socks off books. Amazingly enough, this year, I was able to keep my list below 20. These 15 books have given me all the feels. They’ve made me laugh, cry, swoon and taken me on some of the best journeys  I hope you enjoy my top 15 and the quotes I’ve pulled….

“I’d often wished we had a cool story about when our relationship transitioned from that of tolerating each other to discovering we were two halves of one soul. But the truth is Thea and I evolved much like the seasons: slow, steady, and unstoppable.”

“Love changes a man – even when he’s not yet a man at all. We were friends, but Thea was still quiet, stoic, borderline rude a lot of the time. However, in that tree, suffering alone and also together, I fell in love with her like the stars falling from the sky. Thea made me feel. It didn’t take long before I was utterly addicted.”

“I could love you one day, Zach,” I whisper against his mouth. “I think it’s too late for me, Delia.”

“It’s not over. It’s the beginning of a new adventure.”

“This kiss was sweet, short, nothing that would blow anyone’s socks off…besides mine. Because even though it only lasts a few seconds, it’s within those seconds that I get my first taste of her. It’s where I get to feel myself tip over the edge into falling for this girl. I’ve had many first kisses. Aggressive, passionate, consuming, but nothing like this. Nothing this sweet, this….understanding. Nothing that has ever made me want to drop all my defenses and expose my true self to a woman. And that’s scary. Terrifying actually. Because if a kiss this simple can turn my world upside down, what’s going to happen when I feel her tongue against mine, when she kisses me longer, when I get to feel her delectable body against mine? Was Roark right? Am I screwed?”

“I was born with a piece of your soul inside me and I want to claim it. Right here, right now.”

“It’s easier to show the world what they want to see, but it doesn’t change who we really are. And there will be people who come and go and never see past the veneer you wear. There will be people who try to see deeper but are easily convinced there is nothing but the shell.”

“I would have started a fucking war for you, Faith. I would have burned down the church, given my soul to the devil just to break in and stop your wedding, but I was put in jail a few months before.” He let out a weighty sigh, and my heart felt the heaviness in his unstable timbre. Tears stung my eyes, battering them for what I owed him. “You were mine, Faith. I was yours and you just walked away. You married someone else.”

“Do you know what the definition of hell is? Because I do. It’s getting the life you wanted only to fuck it up because you didn’t know how to embrace it and be happy.”

“Humans are gloriously flawed, and some types of love are never truly unconditional. A lot of my mistake was expecting our love to stay perfect, because a lot of the time, it was. It’s wanting our love even after we’ve seen the imperfections that makes or breaks us.”

“Touching Maren feels like that, like I’m defiling an angel, kissing my way straight to hell.”

“It’s a long story, but it means that you need to capture every moment when you get it, don’t waste life doing just one twirl when you can do two.” She stared straight ahead but slid her hand toward mine and gripped. “Life’s too short to worry about too many twirls, take as many as you want, and be thankful you have the opportunity to twirl in the first place.”

“My soul mate. My everything. The other half of my dark, twisted heart.”

“Love didn’t come easy to me at first.”

“Harry, since we met, we have been meteorites crashing together, knocking each other off course. I can’t imagine two more unlikely people trying to strike up a friendship.

I want to decompress with her after a long road trip. I want to feel her body pressed up against mine while we watch a movie, or share one of her weird vegan desserts that she claims will change my life but only makes me wonder if she was born without taste buds.

“Scared in a good way or bad way? Because I’m scared too, babe. I’m terrified of the way I feel for you. It’s so strong. It feels like I can actually taste my need for you.”

“Whether you claim me or not, I am yours”

“Every new beat of my heart was a flash of memory, of a past life, searing through me like hot sparks as I gripped him tighter. I saw what once was, what maybe could have been, and more than anything, what never was.”

“I lost my heart the minute we connected on a molecular level. Somewhere between the games we played and the love I gave him, I lost a lot more.”

“Maybe I shouldn’t have given him that trust. Maybe I shouldn’t have given him the chance to lie. Maybe I should have known I would regret it all over again when I saw the guilt flash across his stunning face. But I was finished running.”

“I might have been the one who’d backed her against a wall, but she was the one that had me chained.”

“I think you might be every line I’ve ever written. Interwoven in every song. There before I even knew you existed.”

“She was the forever that had been written on my heart.”

“I’ve always been an asshole. Selfish, careless, impetuous, you name it. But for her, I’ll be anything she needs. I’ll rip the world apart to keep her safe, and I’ll make damn sure I don’t give her anything to be embarrassed about when it comes to me.”

“it’s okay to fight for something you love, to dig it out and build it back up in hopes that this time the foundation will be strong enough to withstand the hurricane.”

“I’ll wait forever if it means I get the chance to kiss you again.”

“I’m going to love you so well that you’ll never doubt that I choose you. Every day. Every situation. I choose you.” I melted. I’d waited a lifetime for those very words. “I’m choosing you today by telling you that your well-being is more important than my ego or my need for reassurance. I’ll choose you every single day that I’m gone, every mission that I fly, every second that I breathe. You don’t have to be with me. I’ll be with you.”

“I am your queen. And you are my king. Your dark kingdom is now ours.”

“I loved him. I loved Arthur more than life itself. His darkness and his lifestyle meant nothing compared to that. I loved him despite the malice in his soul. I loved him because of it. Not everyone was meant for a life of roses and summer days, all pretty petals and fragrant perfumes. Some were meant for a life of winter and thorns. It didn’t mean they couldn’t have love.”

“You made me feel again. After so fucking long. After the blood and the death and all the dark thoughts …” I squeezed my eyes shut. “You made me fucking feel.”

“They’ve opened the gates of hell, and the fucking devil and his demons are now leading the charge.”

There is nothing I love more when reading than challenging myself; whether it’s a new genre, author, or checking books off my never ending tbr. Last year, I challenged myself with reading more Historical Romance & Fiction as well as reading at least one book per month that I already own. It was fun. It was hard. It was definitely a challenge. But, I finished and couldn’t be happier!

For 2018’s Reading Challenge, I really wanted to challenge myself and kick my never ending to-read list’s butt!! And I am more than ready for the challenge.

Top Reads of 2017

2017 has been one heck of a year for amazing reads. This year, I read over 400 books and trying to narrow that list down was tough. I have just read so many amazing, life changing, blow me away, knock my socks off books. So, this year, I decided to do a top 20. These 20 books have given me all the feels. They’ve made me laugh, cry, swoon and taken me on some of the best journeys ❤ I hope you enjoy my top 20 and the quotes I’ve pulled….

Amy’s Top 20 of 2017

I lift my head to his, forehead to forehead, mouth to mouth, and soul to soul, and beg him for what I need. “Just please stay.” Please stay…even if my heart is scarred and my soul is dirty. Please stay…because I’ll never survive it if you leave me again. He’s the creation and the rapture. Every good and bad thing all wrapped up into one. An now, after all these years, he may just be my resurrection.

“Back there, she looked at me like she didn’t hate me. Like I wasn’t total shit. Like I wasn’t nothing. Like I was somebody. Somebody she respected. And fuck, it was her, wasn’t it. Her opinion mattered. Fucking hell, why did it have to be her? Of all the people that could matter to me it was her, even now, eight years later.”

“For the briefest second, he wasn’t some rich tycoon about to strip and devour me but a sweet seducer drowning beneath his own untruths. That was the problem with being guarded. People with lies could never make friends. But people with trust cold never make enemies. Both were weak.”

“Life is short, so short, so precious, every minute, every day. Don’t let the people you love, the people who make you happy, the people who bring you joy — don’t let them go. Hang on to them, even when it hurts. When it seems impossible. Hold on to the things that breathe life into you. Listen to your soul and honor what it tells you. Live. Fight for what you love. Because one day, you’ll be where I am, and in that moment I want you to look back gladly, with no regrets.”

“There is no length to love; it’s infinite. It lives in you always. Hold on to it.”

“There’s never been a choice. And I know it must be hard for you to believe in my love after everything I’ve done that’s hurt you, but it’s true. God, it’s true. And if you’ll give me another chance to prove it to you, I’ll do anything. Anything.”

“I was not a pet, not a doll, not an animal. I was a survivor, and I was strong. I would not be weak, or helpless again. I would not, could not be broken. Tamed.”~ A Court of Mist and Fury

“I wonder if some part of me knew what was waiting for me. That I would never be a gentle grower of things, or someone who burned like fire—but that I would be quiet and enduring and as faceted as the night. That I would have beauty, for those who knew where to look, and if people didn’t bother to look, but to only fear it … Then I didn’t particularly care for them, anyway. I wonder if, even in my despair and hopelessness, I was never truly alone. I wonder if I was looking for this place—looking for you all.”~ A Court of Mist and Fury

“My rage had become a living thing inside my chest, an echoing heartbeat that soothed me to sleep and stirred me to waking.”~A Court of Wings and Ruin

“You and this city helped wake me up—helped bring me back to life.” His eyes flickered as I smiled up at him. “I will fight with everything I have, too, Rhys. Everything.”~A Court of Wings and Ruin

“Whether it was playing the drums or strumming the guitar, he always took me to a sacred place with him. A place he never shared with anyone else but me.”

“The taste of her burns within my blood, reminding me of our past. One we shared. One I lost. And everything I want to take back.”

“Maybe somewhere, underneath the glitter and the desperation, there was still a little of the person I used to be.”

“Lust is a dangerous thing. It can seduce your mind and lead it blindfolded to the cliff that will be its demise. Nathan takes me to that cliff, my body bending and molding beneath his, my heart coming up for air in between soft caresses with his mouth…”

“I’m sorry I fell in love with you but I’m more sorry that you fell in love with me, because there’s no happy ending to this fairy tale. There’s only a means to an end. When that ending comes, you’ll be the only one I’ll ever regret meeting.”

“We’re more than people in love. We’re souls entwined for eternity.”

“It was as if, in that moment, the world didn’t make sense anymore–everything was upside down and inside out.”

“It’s a choice–to wallow in despair or to acknowledge what can still bring happiness to my life. And I’m choosing to live despite the heartache.”

“There aren’t enough stars up there to match the reasons why I love you.”

“He was baring it all for me and I was going to do the same for him, even though I knew it would break me into a million pieces.”

“Fate and destiny had held enough power over Janie for this lifetime, and she was done waiting for the sky to fall.”

“He makes me feel wanted. Valued and important, like I’m someone worth protecting. Knowing this man would give his life to shield me, guard me from pain or danger–it’s a heady thing.”

“The Queen was right. Love isn’t a cure; it doesn’t magically solve every problem. But it makes solving those problems worth it. Love is our inspiration, our motivation….and our reward.”

“I feared having my heart broken again. And somehow, instinctually, I just knew that giving Aidan even a little of me and having him reject it it would hurt more than any other man’s rejection.”

“Sometimes the most beautiful things in life are the messiest.”

“All moments matter. We just rarely know how important they are until the chance to act on them has already passed.”

“In my experience, joy is a choice. Life is rough. Don’t expect it not to be. But if aren’t laughin’, we’re crying. Choose to laugh. Choose what brings you joy. And when you choose you path, it may not always be the easiest one, but it’ll always be the right one.”

“I don’t want to be typical to her. I wanted to be all that she could ever want and more. I wanted to be her everything, like she quickly and without my knowledge became mine.”

“She tried damn hard to feign indifference, to look at me with empty eyes, but she needs to realize I can see right through her. Right into her clear blues. And somewhere in that caged-up, closed-off heart of hers, she knows. There’s more going on here than either of us has admitted.”

“I could not dream a better you.”  Oh my God.  Oh… my… God.  Did he just say that?  I stared into his warm eyes.  He just said that.  And that was so sweet, so unexpected but so welcome, my breath arrested and all I could do was continue staring at him.  He wasn’t done. “A better wife, a better queen. Not even in a dream could I create better than you.”

“You don’t have to have had something to want it or need it but when you have something you liked… very much… and it is taken away, and you want it back, it can become a hunger.”

“Life isn’t supposed to be safe.” “If it was, they wouldn’t call it living. They’d just call it existing. And you’ve existed long enough, baby girl. It’s time to live.”

“I think I knew, even then, that the greatest adventure of my life was about to begin.”

“He kissed me like it was a privilege, like he didn’t want to rush it, like we had forever.”

“You don’t see music, you feel it. Music doesn’t see color. Music transcends all stereotypes.”

“Life happens. Sometimes you just have to go with the waves.”

“You’re the music in a mute world, and my heart beats because you’re here.”

“Trust me child, it doesn’t matter what size, shape or form they come it, you give a good man your love and care, he’ll lay waste to the world to keep you by his side.”

I hope you’ve enjoyed my list. I would love to for you to drop me a line and let me know what some of your favorite reads have been for 2017…

Amy’s 2017 Reading Challenge

With 2017 rapidly approaching, it’s time to start thinking of how I want to challenge myself reading wise. Last year was the first year, I attempted an actual ‘Reading Challenge’.
