About HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS

I’ve spent eight years wishing I’d fall out of love with Derek Knightley. Blowing out birthday candles, chasing after shooting stars, making it rain spare change into mall fountains—every time it’s the same wish: forget about Derek.

But the day he walks back into my life, I realize there are two things time has yet to soften: my feelings for him and his chiseled jawline.

It’s infuriating that my heart still races when he walks into a room. I refuse to fall prey to old unrequited love, so I decide the less I’m around him, the better. Avoidance is key.

Unfortunately, Derek isn’t going to make it easy. As a teenager, I would have crawled on my hands and knees to attract his attention. Now I can’t seem to escape it.

I’m not sure why he’s bothering. He’s not just out of my league—he’s out of my tax bracket. As the sole heir to the Knightley Company, he’s as close to American royalty as you can get. As for me, I’m just a part-time princess at Knightley’s flagship magical theme park.

I spend my days playing make-believe, but Derek has no use for fairytales. His unwavering confidence makes it clear he thinks I’ll surrender in the end.

He’s just biding his time.

Making me sweat.

His Royal Highness always gets what he wants.

And he wants me.

MY REVIEW

“I don’t know how a soul finds its mate, why it seemed like mine had latched onto someone who was the least logical choice. All I know is it’s been eight years and I’m still not over my silly crush on Derek Knightly.”

“It’s his eyes. They’re the truest dark brown, a shade that doesn’t parade around with pomp and circumstance. There’s a quiet tug in their depths. Tell me your secrets and I’ll never tell a soul, they promise. And I listen. I down a truth serum each time our gazes meet.”

“You’re scared of real pain.” “The burning kind. The lie awake and worry kind. The can’t eat, can’t think, no life without you in it…kind.”

I don’t know about you guys, but I was so excited to hear that R.S. Grey had another book coming out. Her romantic comedies are some of the best. They are smartly written with quirky characters and storylines you can’t help but fall in love with. Her latest book, His Royal Highness hit each and every one of my marks, and was so worth waiting for…..

His Royal Highness follows the story of Derek and Whitney. Whitney has lived her life always feeling like second best, so it comes to no surprise that she should fall for the magic of the kingdom that Knightley Corporation created. It got her through some of the toughest times in her life, and when she became old enough, she was determined to work for the Knightley Corporation. What she didn’t plan on was having Derek Knightley as a mentor. He was everything, yet completely intimidating at the same time. Whitney would have done anything to get Derek to notice her. She developed quite the crush on Derek, but when she finally got the courage to do something about it, he disappeared. It will be eight years before Derek and Whitney are reunited. Whitney is not the same meek, timid girl that Derek once knew. She’s quite grown up and isn’t about to put her heart on the line again. Only, Derek didn’t get that memo. He’s captivated by Whitney and refuses to fight the pull he feels towards her. Fate has brought Derek and Whitney together again and only time will tell if these two characters will find their happily ever after….

His Royal Highness was a wonderful treat. This story intrigued me from the very first page. I loved how real and raw Whitney was written. In the beginning, Whitney was this young and shy girl. She was a bit immature at times, but it was perfect for the age of her character. I loved how relateable the author made this character. As someone in their 30’s, I can quite relate to being lost and a bit over my head as a young adult. I thought she was sweet and real and I just couldn’t wait to get to know her more. And then we have Derek. Derek is this sophisticated older man who’s got his stuff together. He’s confident and charming and completely intimidating. I loved watching his eyes open when it came to Whitney. He was so sweet and gentle with her; the perfect book boyfriend. Derek & Whitney had some amazing chemistry. Their back and forth led to some delicious will they/won’t they moments. The tension just oozes off of the pages, leaving readers dying for more. I absolutely loved watching these two try to navigate their way everything and couldn’t wait to see how their story would end.

His Royal Highness was the cherry on top, the most perfect read to spend my day getting lost in. I loved the magic of the Knightly Kingdom. The characters were real and easy to connect with. I laughed. I swooned. Most of all, I feel head over heels in love. His Royal Highness was totally magical and I loved getting swept up in Whitney & Derek’s story….

*I was provided an ARC copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review*
