Review: Best I’ve Ever Had by Abbi Glines

Posted on

Summer had returned to the coastal town of Sea Breeze, Alabama. The nightlife lit up with scantily clad sun-kissed bodies, live music, the smell of freshly cooked seafood.

Taking it all in he wondered if coming back had been the best thing. He wasn’t the same man who had driven out of town a year ago on the motorcycle he’d spontaneously bought after his best friend’s wedding. From the messy blond curls he’d let grow out to the tattoos now covering his arms, part of his chest and even the side of his neck, it all represented a part of his journey.

Eli Hardy was back, but he didn’t plan on staying for long

“This may be the biggest mistake of my life, but at least I was making it.”

“When I was near her, life was better…no, it was more than better. Seeing her was worth waking up for.”

“You own me. Every motherfucking corner of my soul is consumed with you. To tell you I love you isn’t enough. It’s never been enough. But make no mistake, I do love you.”

When we first meet up with Eli, he’s lost. A total mess. He’s falling hard, but in that moment of despair, he’s given the chance to leave. A chance to go find himself and live his life to the fullest. But, when a family crisis has him returning just a short year later, Eli comes back a changed man. The old Eli has been left behind and in his place is a more rugged, tattooed version with secrets and pain in his eyes. Eli doesn’t plan on staying home longer than he has to…that is until Ophelia Finlay enters the picture. Ophelia is like a breath of fresh air and represents everything Eli never knew that he wanted. He wants nothing more than to stay away, but the pull towards Ophelia will prove very hard to ignore…..

Best I’ve Ever Had is classic Abbi Glines. With her fast paced, yet beautiful writing, she has delivered a story that not only pulls at your heart, but is completely addictive. Eli & Ophelia fall hard and fast and their story will leave you glued to the pages. I don’t know about you guys, but I am a total sucker for the bad boy. You know the kind I’m talking about. The kind that has secrets and has been hurt by love in the past. The kind that thinks there’s no way he’s good enough and doesn’t deserve the love of a good woman. That in a nutshell is Eli. He is the sweetest guy, if only he could let his fears stay away. And Ophelia is the light to his darkness. She accepts Eli for who is and for all of his faults. I loved the push and pull between the two of them and I loved watching the two of them try to figure things out. While these two fell hard and fast, it wouldn’t be an Abbi Glines novel without a little angst and drama.

Overall, I found this book to be an enjoyable read. I loved the fast pace and addictive quality of the story-line. The characters did a good job of pulling me into their story and keeping my interest the entire time. I loved that this was a quick read, one that you could easily finish in a single sitting. And while The Best I’ve Ever Had does wrap up Eli & Ophelia’s story, I’m not gonna lie, I would have loved a little more of their story in the end…just a chapter or two more…but, I’m greedy like that 😉 I do believe the story ended the way it did so that we could start the next book in the series right where this one left off.

I had a fun time getting swept up in Best I’ve Ever Had and look forward to seeing what this author has in store for us readers next!
