Review: From Darkness (Hearts and Arrows #3) by Staci Hart

Bestselling author Staci Hart brings you an addictive romantic mythology series where love is the ultimate game, and Aphrodite always wins.

I never wanted to leave her. But I had no choice.

I’ve spent the last three years raising my daughter and wishing for things I couldn’t have. When I came back to New York, I thought I could find my way back to her. But that path was lost, grown over and hidden from everyone, especially me.

Her obsession over her best friend’s death is dangerous, and the man she’s after could put her life at stake. She’ll never let it go, not until he’s behind bars or dead.

She just doesn’t realize it might not be him who pays in the end.

If only she’d let me help her. If only she’d let me in. When she sets her mind to something, that’s it. But there’s an exception to every rule, and I plan to be the exception to this one.

And I’ll protect her until my very last breath, whether she wants me or not.

My Review

“How do you find happiness after so much hurt?”

“She didn’t know how to want, how to give, how to love or how she could live up to anyone’s expectations. She hadn’t known how to answer him. She couldn’t say the words she he wanted to hear because she didn’t know if they were true.”

“There were no more questions. There was no more wondering. There was only the two of them, their broken hearts mending with every beat, every breath.”

“She’d been a fool to deny him. But she’d never deny him another thing. Not as long as he loved her.”

When it comes to storytelling, Staci Hart always keeps me on my toes. From dark and intense to second chance romances that burrow into you heart. To stories that make you feel EVERTHING. There is absolutely nothing that Staci Hart can write, that I won’t pick up.

From Darkness is the third book in the Hearts & Arrows Series and follows the story of Jon and Josie. From the moment I got my hands on this book, I was beyond intrigued. I mean, mythology with a bit of a modern twist? You can totally count me in! And what I got was a brilliantly written and spellbinding story. The plot is clever and creative. It is unique and will keep you on your toes.

From Darkness is dark, intense and mysterious. At the same time it is captivating and heartbreaking. Our lead characters have been hurt deeply. Decisions have been made and a ton of baggage is left behind. That being said, our characters are strong and determined. Jon will do anything to get Josie to look at him again; to get that love back that they once shared. And Josie…She wants nothing more than to have Jon in her arms, but the pain of the past is real and deep. She has a lot to overcome and a lot to move past. But, believe me when I tell you, the connection and passion between Jon and Josie is strong, it is intense and it is totally undeniable. This couple is one that I could not help but root for…

But, that’s not all there is to From Darkness. Nope, From Darkness also has the mythology presence. And I gotta tell you, what Staci Hart does with mythology is something I’ve never seen before. She somehow incorporates the two into one seamless and flawless story. She writes gods that are completely relateable and who struggle just as the mortals they play with. I love that element to the story and think that it really does make this story fresh and unique.

Overall, From Darkness was a fabulous read. It intrigued me, frustrated me, captivated me and had me rooting for our main characters. The story-line is fresh and entertaining. The writing is flawless and brilliant. Staci Hart takes mythology and second chance romance to a whole other level that leaves me breathless and begging for more. I am beyond excited to what adventure Staci Hart has lined up for us next.

Author Bio:

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

She’s everything I want, and she can never be mine.

I thought my heart was too mangled to love.

I thought my soul was too sullied to touch something so pure.

I thought I knew myself. But the truth is that it’s all a lie, and she’s the only one who can save me from myself.

But I don’t deserve her.

And she can never be mine, no matter how much I need her.

Even the gods cannot betray the will of the stars.

It’s been a hundred years since she’s warmed my bed, a hundred years spent waiting for her. Now we’ll compete again in a game that matters little to me. My prize is far greater than a token to be paid for a favor — I want her.

And for the first time in a very long time, I have the chance to keep her.

Because now the ground has shifted, tilted in my favor, and with her footing unsteady, she will fall.

I will catch her.

This time, I won’t let go.
