Wake up and feel the wood! In the first of a series of irresistible standalone romances from New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett, a city girl rediscovers love and lust in the Alaskan wilderness.
Valentine French may be the sassiest dating columnist in New York City, but the abundance of metrosexuals in her adopted metropolis is seriously cramping her style. Where are the beefy all-American boys? Hoping to find some inspiration, Val heads to Alaska, where the men outnumber the women fifteen to one and wrestle grizzly bears for sport. Or so she can only imagine. Suddenly the most eligible bachelorette in a town full of horny lumberjacks, Val is writing her best columns ever. But if she doesn’t get her nose out of her laptop, she just might miss out on Mr. Right.
Logan Burke is the sheriff of the little podunk town that Val finds so charmingly backward. He’s not that different from the guys she’s using for her little experiment; it’s just that one date would never be enough for Logan. As he listens to Val complain about love over beers in the local tavern, he realizes that she can’t see the forest for the trees. Because if she would ever give up her Prada bags and fourteen-dollar martinis, Logan would give her the only luxury that matters: his heart.
Sex in the Sticks was such a fun read. I just knew from the moment I read the synopsis of this book that I had to read it.
Told from dual points of view, Sex in the Sticks follows the story of Valentine and Logan. Valentine is a sassy, New York dating columnist She enjoys her work and writing about the men she dates, but lately has been finding her romantic life lacking. So, when her cousin suggests going to a small town in Alaska where there is an overabundance of men, Valentine jumps at the chance. However, she quickly discovers she is way over her head in more than one way. Men are flocking to her like wildfire and providing Valentine with some great writing material. The one thing she thought would never happen….Meeting Mr. Right. Logan has his work cut out for him when it comes to the likes of Valentine. But, as the sheriff of this small Alaskan town, he won’t back down from any challenge. He can’t quite figure Valentine out, but knows he’s got to get to know her better. And what he finds is that there is so much more to Valentine than what meets the eye….
Overall, I found this book to be a fun and enjoyable read. I found the story-line to be fun and entertaining. I loved the idea of the big city girl, meeting a small town guy. I will be the first to admit that I didn’t really love Valentine in the beginning. There was just something about her that was off putting to me. I couldn’t always relate to her, but I will say, by the end of the story she did grow on me. Logan, I adored from the beginning. He was funny and the perfect small town guy with exciting alpha tendencies. He gave Valentine a run for her money and showed her how to relax and just enjoy the beauty that is Alaska.
Sex in the Sticks is a cute and sweet read. I thought this story had a lot of good angst and enjoyed the sweet romance and sexy good times. I think this series is off to a promising start and look forward to seeing where this series will go next.
