Miranda: Even though I’m broke, putting myself through college, and working two jobs, I’m trying to make the best of it. Meanwhile, Jake Birch, hockey’s hottest bad boy, lives in a luxury hotel in downtown Chicago—and still complains about every little thing in his penthouse. But after I tell him off, instead of getting me fired, Jake requests me as his personal housekeeper. Then he starts flirting with me. Only I’m not flirting back . . . at least, I’m trying not to. Did I mention that he’s hockey’s hottest bad boy?
Jake: I’ve met the best woman at the worst possible time. Miranda is the fire to my ice—a sexy, charmingly candid spark who breaks down my walls and reminds me what it’s like to feel again. But I’m being forced to date my team owner’s daughter to keep my job, so I can’t be caught with Miranda. Still, we’re getting closer—until Miranda finds out about my “girlfriend.” And that’s not the only secret I’ve been keeping. But Miranda’s the one I want . . . even if she doesn’t believe me.
“You’re like….this freight train of amazing that just came flying toward me out of nowhere.”
“When I’m with you, everything else just melts away. I don’t obsess over hockey or get irritated by anything. There’s just you, and that gorgeous smile I’m hooked on. I think I could have fun with you anywhere.”
Hooked is told from dual points of view and follows the story of Jake and Miranda. Jake and Miranda couldn’t be more opposite. Miranda has had to struggle to make the most out of her life. She’s fiercely independent and works hard to put herself through college. She doesn’t have time for luxury or dating. So, when Jake blows into her life, he turns her world upside down….Jake is living the life. He’s at the top of his game and women just flock to him. So, when he meets Miranda, he is taken by surprise. She’s not like the other girls and doesn’t fall for his charm…And that just intrigues him more. He knows he’ll never be what Miranda deserves, but he just can’t stay away….
Overall, I thought this was a great read. Jake and Miranda’s story pulled me in from the very beginning. I loved the easy banter between the two of them and I loved their opposites attract story-line. Jake and Miranda had excellent pull and chemistry. I appreciated that Jake took his time with Miranda and really worked towards building a real relationship with her. Their road to HEA was not an easy one. There were definitely some bumps and frustrating moments along the way. But, I have to say, I really enjoyed watching the two of them figure things out.
Hooked was a quick and easy read for me. I loved the push and pull of the story. It had just the right amount of steam and drama. If I had one complaint, it would just be that I thought the ending was a little bit rushed. Other than that, I thought this was a very enjoyable read and I’m excited to read more from this author in the future.
