Review: Wilder (The Renegades #1)by Rebecca Yarros

He’s Paxton Wilder.

Twenty-two-year-old, tattooed, smoking-hot leader of the Renegades.

Five time X Games medalist.

The world is his playground—especially this year—and for the next nine months I’m stuck as his tutor on the Study at Sea program.

He’s too busy staging worldwide stunts for his documentary to get to class.

But if I can’t get him to take academics seriously, I’ll lose my scholarship…if I don’t lose my heart first.

Six unlikely friends on a nine-month cruise with the Study at Sea program will learn that chemistry is more than a subject and the best lessons aren’t taught in the classroom…but in the heart.

My Review

“Are you ready for an adventure?”

“I wanted to touch her heart, to claim a piece for my own, and that was something I’d never wanted from another woman. I’d never wanted to stake a real claim or to feel something more than affectionate responsibility. But Leah? I wanted to strip away her defenses like she’d obliterated mine. It wasn’t enough to take the piece, to own it by force. No, I wanted it freely given, wanted her to look at me, see me, and then deem me worthy.”

“I hope you’ll look at me and see that the only truth that matters is that what we are is extraordinary and epic, and worth the shit we’re going through.”

Have you ever finished a book and it just left you feeling like you wanted to slow clap the author? Like you just want to scream, “Well done! You’ve blown me away”? That’s me right now. You see, Rebecca Yarros is one of my go-to authors. She is one of those authors that when I pick up her book, I just know I can count on her for some good swoon-worthy, sexy romance. And let me tell you, Wilder does not disappoint.

Now, I will be the first to admit, because I love Rebecca Yarros’ writing, the bar for Wilder was set pretty high. I had the same worries that any reader would have. Will I love this book/this new series? Will she blow me away like she has with her previous books? Well, I am here to tell you, that all of my worries were for nothing. Rebecca Yarros, saw my bar and completely blew it away. She gave me an amazing book with fantastic characters and reminded me of just why I love her writing…

Wilder is told from dual points of view and is just a fantastic read. It is so refreshing and the story pulls you in from the very beginning. It is impossible to not fall in love with Paxton and Leah. Paxton is the boy that your parents warned you away from. He is wild. He is reckless. He is hotter than hell and the boy that will break your heart. But, underneath his wild facade, there is more to Paxton than meets the eye. There is a smart, and caring man. There is a man who didn’t know he was an alpha until he met his match in Leah. Leah was the game changer. She made Paxton open his eyes and see that extreme sports weren’t everything. She showed him that there are different types of bravery, and most important, she showed him how to love. I couldn’t have asked for two better characters to fall in love with. I loved the banter between Paxton and Leah. They had amazing push and pull that kept me rooting for them the entire time! I loved that both Paxton and Leah weren’t perfect. They were both broken in their own ways and were soooo stubborn! They seriously were a perfect match!!

I think The Renegades Series is off to one amazing start. Wilder exceeded my expectations and was thoroughly entertaining. This story is incredibly well written with amazing characters and has a fun and refreshing story-line. This book has the perfect mix of drama, adventure, romance, sexy good times and suspense. I loved the mystery that surrounded the story and the suspense of it all definitely kept me on my toes. I loved everything about this book and am super excited to see where this series is going to go next. So, in the words of Paxton, AKA Wilder, there is only one thing left to ask: “Are you ready for an adventure?”

*I was provided an ARC copy of this book via the publisher and NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review*
