Some games are hotter off the ice…
Sofia Phillips feels cursed. Her father cheated on her mother, her boyfriend cheated on her—she’s done with dating. A summer work-exchange program in Finland is the perfect escape. But instead of gaining experience as an athletic trainer, she’s cleaning toilets. Awesome. The trip is a disaster, and even better, she meets Kyle Bennett. In the sauna. Naked.
Sexy hockey player Kyle was the star right wing for an NHL team. But after an accident killed his wife and left him injured, Kyle has appreciated the “therapeutic” benefits of booze and puck bunnies. Now in Finland for the summer, he’s coaching in an elite hockey-training camp for teens. When Sofia’s grandmother decides to set her up with a nice Finnish man, Sofia recruits Kyle as her make-believe boyfriend. Neither expects their first kiss to sizzle. And neither expects, while stranded on an island during a storm, to have a scorching night of passion.
But as their charade, and then their attraction, develops into something deeper, the past comes back, threatening to destroy them. They must decide if their feelings for each other are strong enough to survive—or it will be game over.
Heat It Up is a quick, easy and enjoyable read. It follows the story of Kyle and Sofia. Sofia has had the worst luck; not only in men, but in life. Looking for a change of scenery, Sofia jumps at the chance for a work-exchange program in Finland. However, instead of getting job experience like she was anticipating, she ends up having to scrub toilets….Kyle is sexy and on top of his game. That is until an accident killed his wife and left him injured. Now, he’s back in Finland for the summer to teach hockey camp to teens. What he didn’t plan on was Sofia…And when he ends up helping her out by being her fake boyfriend, sparks fly and all bets are off. Will Sofia and Kyle give into their building and undeniable attraction or will the past come back and destroy everything they worked so hard for???
Overall, I really enjoyed Heat It Up. I really enjoyed the story-line and loved learning about Finland. I really liked Sofia and Kyle. I thought they had great chemistry and loved their push and pull. Both of them were dealing with some pretty tough issues. I loved watching their friendship bloom and seeing if it would turn into something more.
Heat It Up was a quick read for me. I was able to finish it in one sitting. I think it had just the right amount of drama, romance and steam. I think this series is off to a really good start and I look forward to seeing where it will go next.
