Damon Atwood was Hollywood’s golden boy. Having won an Oscar at the tender age of thirteen, he had the life many could only dream about. But his success came at a price, and after a short but fruitful film career, he chose to live a life of obscurity on a remote Scottish island. Almost a decade later he’s finally ready to make his return, starting with a lead role in a musical on London’s West End.
As a choreographer’s assistant, Rose Taylor has always faded into the background. She watches shows come to life from the side lines, but has never craved the attention of stardom. When rumours begin circulating of Damon’s involvement in her latest gig, she doesn’t predict how she will be thrust into the limelight, nor how the mysterious and strangely introverted man will need her to teach him how to be a star again.
Rose knows that show crushes don’t last. Actors fall for each other during the intensity of a production, often losing themselves in their roles. These kinds of affairs burn bright and then they fade. The question is, should Rose let herself shine with Damon, or guard her heart from being broken after the final curtain call?
“Sometimes I felt like I was made from stone, solid and unmoving, only ever free when I delved into a role and became someone else.”
“Damon didn’t speak openly very often, nor with such passion. This meant that when he did speak, you listened. You savored every syllable because you knew he guarded them closely, only doling them out when they truly meant something.”
Oh, how I have been waiting for this book!!! As a fan of L.H. Cosway’s writing, when I first heard about this book, I immediately added it to my to read list. I just knew that this story was going to be something special, something amazing. And let me tell you, I was not disappointed.
Told from dual points of view, Showmance follows the story of Damon and Rose. Damon’s acting career started at a very young age. Damon should be on top of the world, but he is not. His life has been anything but easy. He’s been taken advantage of by the very people who are supposed to love and protect him. So, it’s really no surprise that he’s spent the last few years hidden away on a remote Scottish Island…..Now, years later. He’s ready to make his comeback. What he wasn’t ready for was Rose…..Rose has always faded into the background. She’s an amazing dancer, but her stage fright keeps her behind the scenes. When Damon comes into the picture, she will be thrown into the spotlight whether she wants it or not. Rose and Damon were only supposed to be friends. But, the chemistry and connection these two have are too real to ignore. Will Rose throw caution to the wind and take a chance on Damon?? There’s only one way to find out….
Shomance was such an amazing read. I devoured this book in just one sitting. It was impossible for me to put down. I fell in love with Rose from the moment I met her. My heart ached for her and for her romantic troubles. I wanted desperately for her to find a man who would love her the way that she deserved. Damon was the absolute best match for her. I loved how the two of them started off as just friends. Yes, they were attracted to each other, but neither one of them was in a position to take things further. I just loved the push and pull that they had. I couldn’t get enough of the will they/won’t they moments. And Damon…he is just impossible to not fall in love with. He is sexy, dirty mouthed and possessive. He is quiet and when he does talk, you need to listen. And when he falls in love, he’s not afraid to go after what he wants. And Rose challenges him in the best possible ways. Gosh, I can’t say enough about these two. I just adored them!
There’s not much else to say about Showmance other than I loved it. I loved every single moment. This book gave me everything that I needed and then some. The characters were utterly amazing. They were so easy to connect with. They begged for their story to be told and demanded that I devour every word. And boy did I devour each word. Rose and Damon’s story just captivated me. It made me laugh. It pulled at my heart. It frustrated me. God did it frustrate me. It made me swoon and it made me fall in love. And boy, did I ever fall in love. Showmance just totally consumed me and I loved it. Fans of L.H. Cosway, you are not going to want to miss this! I definitely recommend checking this book out.
