Piper Winchester is fresh out of college. With only three weeks until her father remarries and five weeks until her first business venture launches, she’s got her hands full. She certainly doesn’t need any distractions to get in the way of building the future her father’s always wanted for her. But when a familiar boy with bright green eyes walks back into her life, she’s thrown for a loop.
Four years ago, Chase MacKenzie left for college without looking back. He didn’t mean to disturb the peace then, and he definitely doesn’t want to do that now. Once he lays his eyes on Piper again, there’s no way he can leave without fixing what went wrong in the past. Although she’s more determined than ever to push him away, he still manages to get under her skin. Regardless of what happens between them, there’s one thing that will always be standing in their way…
He’s about to become her stepbrother.
“She stares at me, a content smile on her face. There’s something appealing about this moment. It’s one I would give anything to have every single day for the rest of my life”
Can’t Stay Away was a quick and easy read for me. One of the first things that captured my attention about this book was the synopsis. The story-line was forbidden, but so intriguing, I just knew I had to read it.
Overall, I found this story to be a sweet read. I really liked the idea of the story. I enjoyed the characters and wanted to know more about them. I especially wanted to know why/how Chase and Piper got separated.
Chase and Piper’s journey to HEA wasn’t an easy one. It was actually quite frustrating. Piper frustrated me a lot. I really wanted her to stand up for herself and stand up to her father. I understand why it was hard for her, but at the same time, she was an adult, so I just wanted to shake her and say YOU’RE AN ADULT!!! Chase, I felt really bad for him. I could tell he really had strong feelings for Piper and he made a bad decision; one that would come to haunt him once the two of them were reunited. Despite all of that, I really did enjoy Piper and Chase. I thought the two of them had explosive chemistry and when they were able to get past all of their issues and insecurities, they were a true joy to watch.
Pacing was also a bit of an issue for me. It just felt off at times, maybe even a little rushed, especially towards the end.
Now, I know that this story-line might be taboo for some, due to the nature of the story. But, I have to tell you, it is a really good story. It is forbidden. It is sexy. But, it is a great story of love and finding the courage to stand up for yourself. Yes, I did have a few problems with it, but overall, I did enjoy it. I really do feel that Lilly Avalon has a ton of potential as an author and I enjoy the journey her books take me on. I look forward to reading more from her and the future.
