Title: Love Or Justice (Protect And Serve #1)
Author: Rachel Mannino
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: November 3, 2015
Laurie Shelton is the only person alive who can identify Hawaii’s most notorious mob boss…
After stumbling into a deadly kidnapping, Laurie’s life is in grave danger, and it falls to US Marshal Dante Stark to keep her safe until she testifies against Kaimi Quamboa—assuming he can be captured.
Dante knows he’ll lose his job if he becomes romantically involved with a witness…
But when he has to comfort her through constant nightmares, he finds it nearly impossible to fight his attraction to the beautiful, strong young woman he is sworn to protect. Laurie feels it too, but aware she’s in a high-stress situation and that when the danger is past she’ll never see Dante again, she tries to ignore his easygoing smile and the security he offers.
Laurie and Dante are forced to flee again…
When Kaimi’s men descend on their hideaway, they escape to a second safe house, only to be tracked down there as well. Dante now knows there’s a mole inside the US Marshal Service, and the only thing left to do is disappear.
Kaimi will never stop looking for Laurie, and if he’s caught, showing up to testify could be the last thing she ever does.
With each choice as dangerous as the next, Dante and Laurie must confront the boundaries of what they’re willing to sacrifice, and which is more important…

Love or Justice is the debut novel by Rachel Mannino. When I first saw the cover for this book, I knew I had to check it out. And I have to tell you, I’m really glad that I did. This story pulled me in from the very first page. I had to know what would happen next. I really loved the plot and the idea behind the story. It was action packed, entertaining and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat.
I did have a few issues with the story. My first issue was the pacing. I wish it had been a little more consistent. The story would start off strong, fall flat and then pick right back up again. My other issue was the male point of view. I am a big fan of dual points of view and I feel like this one let me down a little bit. I wish that it would have been a little stronger. It didn’t always feel as though it was the male point of view talking.
Other than those issues that I had, I did really enjoy this story. I was entertained and captivated. I wanted to know more about the characters. I loved the suspense and danger of the story. There was a ton of action and some really exciting twists. The romance was very enjoyable; but definitely fast paced.
Overall, I think this was a really good debut novel. I did have some issues with the story, but those issues did not take away from my enjoyment of the story. I think that this author has a ton of potential and I’m looking forward to checking out more books from her in the future.
*I was provided an ARC copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review*
Dante smiled, watching pleasure bloom over Laurie’s cheeks and lips. Her eyes danced and they darkened from sapphire to twilight. A responding pleasure spread from his chest through his whole body until he was lightheaded with it. He wanted her to always look that way around him. He wanted her to look that way when she looked at him. He shook himself out of that last thought. He was traveling on a dangerous road. He shouldn’t let himself go any further.
Dante’s breath caught in his chest. All he could do was nod in response. The sun illuminated Laurie’s face, bathing it in a rosy gold. Her hair caught the light, glowing around her face like a halo. Gratitude shone in her eyes as she smiled at him. It was the most striking picture of beauty Dante had ever seen, and he would remember that vision of her for the rest of his life.
