Release Day Blast and Review: Twice Upon A Time by Hope Irving

Twice Upon A Time by Hope Irving
Publication Date: October 31st, 2015
Genre: New Adult Paranormal Romance
Once upon a time, there was the wandering soul of Morgann, an 8th century Irish calligrapher-monk longing to be reunited with his soul mate. Deirdre was his forbidden love, a witch with whom he wrote a coveted book.
Under her spell, the souls of the star-crossed lovers travel from bodies to bodies until they find each other. Eventually.
That became his quest: unearth her new body and trigger her memory, for she is clueless about whom she once was. Unfortunately their story didn’t get a chance to become a fairy tale yet it still turned out as a famous urban legend referred as The Black Angel Book.
Twice upon a time, not so long ago, there was me, rational and devastated Rose. I needed to get a grip, said my French mum after my year of numbness due to a painful break-up that led me to cut my wrist daily, to feel something, anything.
So she sent me off to the free-spirited village of Provincetown, Massachusetts, to spend the summer with my American relatives. And just like that, I wasn’t myself any longer. Because someone pulled me out of the darkness and bewitched me, somehow.
I couldn’t wait to jump his bones… but why was he holding back?
He couldn’t wait to welcome me into his world… but was I ready to question my convictions and acknowledge that my self-inflicted cuts were now healing in record time?
How could I have imagined he was longing for his own unorthodox fairytale to come true? Frantically.

My Review

“I am a soul that gained awareness of its existence; a wandering soul inhabiting various bodies throughout their mortal life.A soul longing to be reunited with its soulmate.”

“I am no longer Morgann. She is no longer Deidre. I love her. She’s my life. I am going to find her. She’ll be mine, once again.”

I am a big, big paranormal romance fan, so when I read the synopsis for this book, I just knew I had to check it out. And let me tell you, Twice Upon a Time is a really great debut novel. It pulls you in from the very first page, and has you wanting to know more. I found the story-line to be unique and captivating. The characters were interesting and had me wanting to know more about them. I was anxious to see if Morgann and Deidre’s souls were ever going to be reunited. I loved being in the present with Morgann and Deidre or as they are now called Virgil and Rose. I was on pins and needles, waiting to see if Rose’s soul was ever going to recognize Virgil for who he truly was.

Overall, I thought that Twice Upon a Time was a good read. I think it’s a great debut novel and that this series has a ton of potential. This story has lots of great mystery and romance. I will warn you that it does end on a bit of a cliffhanger and it’s a good one. I for one can not wait to get my hands on the next book and see what lies in store for these characters next.

My Review

“Our love is a breezy summer day. Sure, there were showers in the afternoon and storms on the horizon, but they were always temporary. They’d come and go. But, on our love, the sun always shone.”

I don’t know about you guys, but ever since I met Jeremy and Sierra in Ignite, I have been dying for their story. It’s been a long wait, but let me tell you, it was worth it!!

Fusion really takes you on a journey to the past. We get to see every part of Jeremy and Sierra’s relationship; from the moment they met when Sierra was just 8 years old, to the future where they are happily married and where we first meet them in Ignite. I loved every second of Sierra and Jeremy’s story; from start to finish. I loved every angsty moment of watching their relationship develop from best friends, to confusing feelings, to almost blowing it, to finally realizing what was in front of both of their faces.

Fusion was a quick and easy read for me. I loved getting lost in Sierra and Jeremy’s story. I loved how realistic their relationship and their problems were. I think I had a smile on my face almost the entire time I was reading this story. I was either laughing at all the teen awkwardness or smiling because of just how swoon-worthy Jeremy was. And let me tell you, this kid had some game, even as a teen!

Honestly, I don’t know what else to say. This book was just such a fun read. It reminded me of what it was like to be young and in love. One of my favorite things was the Dawson’s Creek references, because let’s face it, we all watched that show in the 90’s and loved it!! Team Pacey Forever!!! But, seriously, I really enjoyed this story. The story-line and the characters were so much fun. I loved getting to see how the whole story started and how the connection between Jace and Lexi began. It has me super stoked to re-read Ignite. Oh, and I loved the ending; that little tease from Ava’s pov—I can not wait to see where her story-line will go!! Thank you once again, Tessa Teevan, for providing me with another amazing read! I can’t wait to see where you will take me next!!

*I was provided an ARC copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review*

“It’s fine, Jeremy. I promise. I have no problem being the Tod to your Copper. Or the Joey to your Dawson. That’s who I am.” She hesitated for a brief moment. “That’s who I’ll always be. You’re my best friend, Jeremy. It’s okay that you don’t see my boobs. Hell, it’s probably better that way.”

My stomach plummeted and if I was man enough to admit it, my eyes burned with an unexpected rush of tears. I stepped back, out of the streetlight so she couldn’t see me. It was a move she misinterpreted, but before I could find a single ounce of courage, she was waving goodbye and running into her house, leaving me there to watch her go.
Something I never wanted to do again.
It wasn’t until after Sierra left for Ohio and I had a chance to reflect on her words that I realized what she’d said. Dawson and Joey, as of right then, weren’t even speaking. Copper and Tod went their separate ways, and even though their friendship remained, they were still apart for the rest of their lives.
I didn’t want to be Copper anymore. I sure as hell didn’t want to be Dawson.
But it was too late. I’d lost my chance. I’d missed my window. Sierra was gone and there was nothing I could do about it.
Jenna was right.
I was an idiot.

Watch the Wrath unfold! Clubs. Mafia. Drugs. Murder. And the man they all know as Scarface, will leave you guessing in book one of this brand new series…

Eloped at the age of eighteen. Separated at the age of eighteen. Disappeared at the age of eighteen. This is what happened to Calla Greer. Her perfect life was shattered on her wedding day when she caught her husband Cain with another woman just hours after they said I do. With her heart broken, she moves across the border to Windsor, Canada to get away from the nightmare she stumbled upon. Hell bent on going to college and fulfilling her dream of becoming a lawyer.

After six long years of still being married, Calla returns to Detroit to have Cain sign divorce papers.

Only Cain has changed.

He’s bitter, angry and for a good reason.

At least that’s what he’s been telling himself for the past six years. Cain Bexley had fifteen minutes to destroy his marriage to protect the woman he loved.

He did the only thing he could think of to make her leave. He jumped in bed with a woman. Life at home was a lie. Lives were at risk. People are not who they seem.

Not even Cain’s dad or Calla’s parents are who they say they are. When Calla shows up begging for a divorce. He shows her exactly who he is and no way in hell will he sign those papers.

What happens when six years later she returns? The only woman he has loved. A woman who has changed herself! When all the lies surface will she be able to forgive everyone she has trusted in her life or will Calla turn to the man who destroyed her?

My Review

“How can you feel a pull so strongly towards someone when in reality you never knew them at all? How can you love someone so much after being separated for as long as we have, and at the same time want to gouge their eyes out? It’s a riddle I will never be able to solve. A puzzle that will always be missing that last piece no matter how hard I try to find it.”

Wrath of Cain is my first book by Kathy Coopmans, and let me tell you, she has blown me away. This book is intense, it is dark, it is gritty and boy is it is sexy.

Wrath of Cain is told from dual points of view and follows the story of Cain and Calla. Cain and Calla are basically two star-crossed lovers. They fell in love and had to keep their relationship hidden. They hid their love for two years, until they were old enough to get married. The day that they married should have been the happiest day of their lives. However for Calla, her wedding day will change her life forever. Now, six years later, Calla wants to move on. But, in order to that, she must face the man who broke her heart and demand a divorce from him……If only things were that simple. See, everything isn’t what it seems. Cain made some very tough choices, ones that he has regretted every single day for the last six years. And now that Calla has returned, he’s not going to let her go. Only, there is so much that Calla doesn’t know. So much that will hurt her, but she’s got to know the truth. And once she finds out the truth, Cain has to hope like hell that the love that she has for him is strong enough to forgive, to forget, and to take back what they’ve lost…..Only time will tell.

I have to say when I went into this book, I wasn’t really sure what I was going to get and I am so glad that I went into this story blind. It blew me away and captivated me. I didn’t want to put this book down. This book frustrated me and made me want to pull my hair out at times. There were moments where I just wanted to punch Cain, but once I saw the truth…my heart began to understand the why of things. I may not have liked the decisions that were made, but I understood them. And let me tell you, the chemistry between Calla and Cain….Holy Smokes! It was HOT! I mean scorching! I loved the push and pull between the two of them and how they worked to find their way back to each other.

Wrath of Cain took me on one heck of a wild ride. There was no shortage of steam, sexy times, romance, action, and suspense…did I say action? I loved all the secrets and lies and the fight for the truth. And wow! Talk about twists. This book had so many delicious twists and turns. It had me on the edge of my seat, waiting to see how everything would play out in the end. As I previously said this is my first book by this author and I am super excited to check out more of her books.

*I was provided an ARC copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review*

My brain finally catches up with the fact I’m naked in front of Cain for the first time in six years. I sit up in a rush of water and bring my knees to my chest, resting my chin on top of them.

“You… you shouldn’t be in here.”

“You wouldn’t answer me,” he says exasperatedly.

“Well, no shit. My head was underwater. That still doesn’t give you the right to just walk in here.”

“When you don’t answer me when I’m standing right outside of a wide open door, not to mention the fact this is my house… well, then I think I have every fucking right. Don’t you?”

“No, I don’t. You could have just peeked in and seen I was fine and waited. Was this some kind of ploy for you to get me right where you wanted me? Are you so afraid that the minute you turn your back on me I will up and try to leave? Are you going to watch my every move? Or did you have an ulterior motive in suggesting I shower, just so I could strip down naked and you could make damn sure I didn’t go anywhere? So tell me what the hell it is, because this back and forth, hot and cold game you’ve started is really starting to piss me the hell off!”

I glare up at him, not quite able to read his eyes.

What I do know is that the sexual tension between the two of us is so strong, it’s working triple overtime. There’s only one tiny little obstacle in our way… and that would be our past. The fact that I can’t trust him. He broke every bit of it the same day he broke my heart. One of us needs to give in, take charge so we can just fuck and move on.

Sensual woman kissing her handsome husband

My Review

“It was raining. Isn’t that the way all great love stories start?

The Fall Up follows the story of Sam and Levee. On the outside, Levee is living the life. She’s famous and has tons of money. But on the inside, she’s screaming. She’s tired and overworked. Somewhere along the way, she’s lost sight of what’s important and has lost her way. That’s how she finds herself at the bridge every night….Sam Rivers is the gorgeous tattooed stranger. Armed with cigarettes and his own demons, he also finds himself at this bridge. While everything is “fine” in Sam’s life, he’s looking for more; he’s looking for greatness. Stumbling upon Levee was the last thing he expected. Each night the two of them end up at the bridge, both of them searching. Sam never leaving, until he makes sure that Levee is safe. The two of them for an unexpected friendship and bond. Until one night, they decide to go out for dinner and take their friendship to another the level. As the two of them get closer, Sam quickly sees that Levee is not as “fine” as she leads on. Will Sam be able to save Levee or has Levee already lost the battle and hit rock bottom?

The Fall Up was a quick read for me. I devoured it in less than a day. I was so intrigued by Sam and Levee. They both seemed so lost. I  just wanted them to be able to find some light. One of the things that I really liked was that the author wasn’t afraid to tackle some very tough issues. I thought she handled them very well and these issues only intensified my need to know more about these characters. So, even thought there was a lot of heavy issues, there was also some lightness, some laughter and most importantly, there was love. Fans of Aly Martinez, I think you’re really going to enjoy this one!

“You’re overdoing it, Lev. I know this job isn’t exactly nine-to-five, but it’s not twenty-four-seven, either. You have to stop being Levee Williams all the time and just be you.”

“I know,” I responded.

I didn’t though. I felt like a robot parading around in a lost woman’s body.

Toss in the occasional song.

What little time I did manage to carve out for myself was spent at various children’s hospitals across the country.

Watch a child die.

With every day that passed, the smile became less and less genuine, the pose more and more forced, and the turn took me further and further away from who I really was.

My career was soaring while, personally, I was plummeting. Every single day felt like a terrifying free fall in no particular direction. I was stuck in the middle with no way up—or down.

“You remember that girl, right?” Henry asked, tucking a hair behind my ear.

I nodded.

I did remember her. She was fun and carefree. She loved going out and dancing at nightclubs until the very last song played. She slept until noon if she could. Then, fueled by coffee alone, she’d spend the day with a guitar strapped around her neck and a notepad at her side. She had a huge heart, but she knew her limitations.

Oh, I remembered that girl. I just couldn’t figure out how to get back to her.

Welcome to Storm, Texas, where passion runs hot, desire runs deep, and secrets have the power to destroy…

Nestled among rolling hills and painted with vibrant wildflowers, the bucolic town of Storm, Texas, seems like nothing short of perfection.

But there are secrets beneath the facade. Dark secrets. Powerful secrets. The kind that can destroy lives and tear families apart. The kind that can cut through a town like a tempest, leaving jealousy and destruction in its wake, along with shattered hopes and broken dreams. All it takes is one little thing to shatter that polish.

Reading like an on-going drama in the tradition of classic day and night-time soap operas like Dallas, Dynasty, and All My Children, Rising Storm is full of scandal, deceit, romance, passion, and secrets.

Marisol Moreno has spent her youth taking care of her younger siblings. Now, with her sister, Ginny, in crisis, and her brother in the throes of his first real relationship, she doesn’t have time for anything else. Especially not the overtures of the incredibly compelling Patrick Murphy.

My Review

What an exciting addition to this serial series. Each episode keeps getting better and better. Just when I think I’ve seen and heard it all, Rebecca Zanetti is quick to prove me wrong. In true soap opera tradition, Rebecca Zanetti has really upped the tension and angst factor. As with each story/episode, we are digging deeper and becoming more lost in the lies of this town. Watch out everyone! The storm is coming and when it arrives, no one will be safe! I can’t wait to see where our next episode will take us!

Review: Friction (Legal Affairs #8) by Sawyer Bennett

At the powerhouse law firm of Knight & Payne, winning comes first and ethics a distant second. Leary Michaels uses her female charms to daze opponents, and it’s always worked well—until now. On her most personal case yet, she finds herself going up against a defense attorney just as skilled, shameless, and seductive as she is.

Reeve Holloway has never met a woman as sure of her own sexuality, or as ruthless in wielding it, as Leary is. But he won’t be toyed with. What Leary starts, he’ll finish—in the courtroom, the bedroom, or any-damn-place he wants. The sex is uninhibited, electrifying, and absolutely against the rules. Reeve’s job is to ruin Leary’s case…even if it destroys her in the process and costs him the woman he’s come to love.

My Review

I am just going to keep this review short and sweet. This book was everything that I’ve come to know and love from Sawyer Bennett. The story was smart and well written. It was hot. It was sexy. It was entertaining. And overall, it was a fun read. Friction is the first book that I’ve read in the legal affairs series and I honestly can not wait to go back and read the other books.

Friction was a quick and easy read for me. This is one of those books that from the moment you start it, you know you’re not going to be able to put it down. I was hooked from the very first page. I loved the writing. The plot was refreshing and I loved all the legal speak. This book had everything I was looking for and more. I couldn’t wait to see how things would play out between Leary and Reeve and of course, I had to know how the case would turn out! There’s not much else I want to say other than I simply loved it! If you’re a fan of Sawyer Bennett, I definitely recommend you check this one out.
