Review: Ride Steady (Chaos #3) by Kristen Ashley

Posted on

ridesteadyThe ride of her life . . .

Once upon a time, Carissa Teodoro believed in happy endings. Money, marriage, motherhood: everything came easy—until she woke up to the ugly truth about her Prince Charming. Now a struggling, single mom and stranded by a flat tire, Carissa’s pondering her mistakes when a vaguely familiar knight rides to her rescue on a ton of horsepower.

Climb on and hold tight . . .

In high school, Carson Steele was a bad boy loner who put Carissa on a pedestal where she stayed far beyond his reach. Today, he’s the hard-bodied biker known only as Joker, and from the way Carissa’s acting, it’s clear she’s falling fast. While catching her is irresistible, knowing what to do with her is a different story. A good girl like Carissa is the least likely fit with the Chaos Motorcycle Club. Too bad holding back is so damned hard. Now, as Joker’s secrets are revealed and an outside threat endangers the club, Joker must decide whether to ride steady with Carissa—or ride away forever . . .

My Review

“Because that was when that was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen and he knew he’d get that again and again and again. Easy. Steady. Beauty. She gave him what she promised he’d have. A beautiful life. The best part? He got to give it back.”

Almost 2 years ago my friend, Diana Murphy introduced me to the world of Kristen Ashley. I didn’t know romance or alpha males, until I started reading her books. I clearly was missing out. Now, almost 2 years later, I’m blogging and got approved for my very first Kristen Ashley book. Lets just say, this was a dream come true for me…

Now, for Ride Steady….Ride Steady is the third book in the Chaos series and it follows the story of Joker and Carissa. During high-school, Carissa had the life that every girl dreamed about. She was beautiful, popular and dating the most popular boy. They were so in love. As she got older, she thought she had everything: money, a wonderful husband and was starting a family. Then one day, she saw the cold reality of what her life was. Her “wonderful” husband was cheating on her while she was pregnant. If that wasn’t bad enough, her husband kicked her out, and got engaged, all before her baby was even born . Carissa’s life just went bad from worse. With no help from her husband, her life became a struggle. She was just barley making ends meet, but did whatever she could to provide for her child. She just needed to catch a break….Carson “Joker” Steele had the opposite life growing up. He was a loner in school, with a bad boy reputation. He always had a thing for Carissa. She wasn’t like the people that she hung out with. However, life dealt Carson some pretty rough cards and he had to escape the life that he lived. Today Carson is known by the name of Joker. A member of the Chaos MC. He is nothing like Carissa remembers. But, now that fate has brought the two of them together, Joker knows that he can’t let Carissa out of his life again. Their road to HEA will be a challenging one, but you know what they say, anything worth having will be worth the ride you have to take.

I loved Ride Steady. I was completely consumed by Joker and Carissa. Life dealt the two of them such tough cards and they didn’t let it get them down. Sure, it would have been easy to just give up, take the easy way out. But, these two, they fought for what they wanted and they fought hard. And I loved every single minute of it. From the first encounter with Joker and Carissa, I knew their story was going to be a great one. Their relationship was just easy. Their connection unstoppable. Carissa was such a strong woman. Her life didn’t turn out how she thought it would, but she didn’t let it get her down. She worked hard to do everything on her own. She was tough, independent and when she loved, she loved with every part of her. And Joker…Carissa brought out so much in him. He was so hard, never let anyone in or really know who he was and then seeing Carissa again, changed everything. He found something worth fighting for and holding on to. Just the way that Joker was with Carissa made my heart melt.Their relationship was truly something beautiful to watch.

Ride Steady was a really captivating read for me. I didn’t want to put it down. This book made me feel so many things. I know when I’m picking up a Kristen Ashley book, that it’s going to be a good one and I wasn’t disappointed. I love the Chaos series and this was a great addition to it. It gave me everything that I was looking for and more, so much more. It had a great story-line and amazing characters. There was angst, romance, a great alpha male and a strong female lead. There is so much more that I could say about this book, but I’m not going to. No, you need to read and experience for yourself. I don’t know what else to say other than I really loved this story.

Review: Fall For Me (Ladder Company #1) by JC Emery

Posted on

LC_FFM_EBOOK_COVER_REDO_FINAL (1)Melanie Kincaid is a trust-fund baby with a knack for sassy comebacks and unnecessarily complicating her privileged life. So, of course, she would have to fall in love with a man she can’t have.

Jameson Hayes is a NYC firefighter for Manhattan’s oldest ladder company. He has big shoes to fill and a city to protect. He’s strong, sexy, and not looking for the complications Melanie brings. But he can’t stay away from her either. The attraction between them is immediate, and the pull is crazy powerful. But she’s only home for the summer and long-distance relationships never work.

Unfortunately, Melanie’s beauty and smart mouth are a lethal combination and Jameson isn’t the only Hayes who’s interested. As if his brother isn’t enough to compete with, now the city’s most famous arsonist wants to claim her as his next prize. Jameson can’t stand to watch Melanie get hurt and she can’t seem to keep herself out of trouble.

Fall for Me is the first Ladder Company novel, a stand-alone companion series about New York’s most elite firefighting family with hot alpha heroes, snarky heroines, and an arsonist hell-bent on destruction.

My Review

“This is what my love looks like. Here, on this hill, waiting for my girl. For as many hours, as many days, as many years as it takes, I’m here. Even if you’ll never be ready for me, I’ll still be here, waiting for you.”

Falling For Me follows the story of Melanie and Jameson. Melanie comes from a privileged life, but could care less about her financial status. She loathes having to go to socialite benefits where the old money looks down at the new money. This particular benefit though seems to look up for Melanie. This is where she meets Jameson. When the two of them meet, their connection is instant. The only problem, Jameson has a girlfriend and wants to “be the good guy”. The two share a dance and nothing more. But, as time goes on, they can’t get each other out of their heads. And it doesn’t help that Melanie’s new bff is non other than Jameson’s sister. Fate just keeps throwing the two of them together…Jameson lives and breathes being a firefighter. It was what he was born to do. The last thing he needed in his life was Melanie. Melanie may only be home for the summer, but he’s having the hardest time staying away from her. Will Jameson ever open his eyes and see what is in front of him?

I have to say that when I read the synopsis of this story, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. I ended up having a complete love/hate relationship with it. Fall for Me started off with a lot of potential. Jameson and Melanie have instant connection. But, Jameson has a girlfriend and Melanie won’t pursue anything further than a friendship with Jameson. Which was a good thing. My issue was Jameson. He didn’t give me the best first impression. If he was in a relationship, he had no business flirting with Melanie. And if said relationship was not working out, then he should have dumped his girlfriend. I had a hard time buying that he was going to break up with his girlfriend, once the lease on their apartment was over. I mean, who does that? Why would you willingly stay with someone that makes you unhappy. Plus, his girlfriend wasn’t all sweet and perfect. Some of the things she did, well, lets just say when he found out about one incident in particular, that should have been it! Relationship over. Also I hated that Jameson was stringing Melanie along. Wanting her to wait for him, but I didn’t feel that he ever gave her a reason to do so. And then, the icing on the cake: Jameson finally sees the light and breaks up with his girlfriend!! Yay! Right? Wrong! Instead of finally taking his chance with Melanie, he starts sleeping around with other women. Sorry, but that just did not sit well with me. And Melanie. I felt kinda bad for her. She was in love with someone that she could never be with. I was happy that she was respectful of the fact that Jameson had a girlfriend and backed off. But, I’m sorry to say, but she frustrated me too. I couldn’t understand why she would waste her life waiting around for Jameson. I really wanted her to move on and forget about Jameson.

I know it sounds like I didn’t like this read very much, but it did have some good moments. Things started looking up for me around the 50-60% mark. Jameson and Melanie finally made more sense. I actually enjoyed their push and pull at this point. Jameson did finally win me over in the end. There were some really great swoon-worthy moments between Melanie and Jameson. Also, I liked that there was a big mystery factor added into the story. There was an arsonist who seemed to be stalking Melanie. I liked trying to figure out who was sending her messages and gifts. I have an idea of who it is, but I’m sad to say that, that is one aspect that does not get resolved in this book. Hopefully, there will be some resolution in the next book. I know that this is supposed to be book 1 in a stand-alone series, so this will be really interesting to me, how this will all play out.

Overall, Fall for Me was a quick read. There were a few things that didn’t quite work for me. And even though this book wasn’t a home-run for me, I’m still glad I checked it out.

“You don’t like it,” he says quietly. I don’t miss the disappointment in his voice. I could throw myself at him, wrap my arms around his neck, and never let go. I could climb him like he’s a goddamn tree and I’m a monkey in need of a banana. I could kiss him like my life depends on it— my heart certainly does— and I could regret never telling him any of this if I don’t say it right now. I could tell him every stupid fucking feeling I’m having, and how much this beautiful gold necklace means to me. I could do all of this, but at the end of it, he still wouldn’t be mine. He would still be my friend— assuming I didn’t scare him off— and if he let me do all of this he wouldn’t be the guy I think he is. He wouldn’t be the man I’ve built up in my head as being strong and courageous and worth every painful moment I spend away from him knowing he’s with her and every trying moment I spend with him knowing he’s not mine.

I let the silence hang between us, as uncomfortable as it is, and focus on breathing steadily so he doesn’t know everything that this stupid beautiful necklace means to me.

“I didn’t—,” he begins. I cut him off because after the long stretch of silence it’s all I can do not to lose my shit over a stupid beautiful necklace from a fucking asshole who I think I’m falling in love with.

“A wishbone?” I ask.

“It’s stupid,” he says and reaches for the box. I pull it away from him, cradling it to my chest. “They’re supposed to be symbolic or something. Like you wish on ‘em and… you wish for something you want.” He’s uncomfortable trying to explain it. I know the symbolism behind a wishbone, but I had to hear his explanation.

He wants me to have what I want.

I have everything I want except for one thing: him.fallforme2

Review: Caught by Clare James

Watching sex tapes at the office is just part of PR professional Vivian Blake’s job, especially when she has to clean up a celebrity’s image. Except that her newest client isn’t quite that easy. Racecar driver Jarod Cage is beyond hot, and his onscreen “performance” is already compromising Viv’s cool professionalism.

While Jarod hasn’t exactly been discreet about his personal life, he never thought his reputation could cost him both his sponsor and his racing career. Now he has to put his future in the hands of a tiny, pixie-like publicist. Which is becoming a problem, because the heat between them is about to redline. But when you go this hard and fast, putting on the brakes is the most dangerous thing you can do…

My Review

Caught follows the story of Jarod and Vivian. Vivian works hard at her job as a PR professional. She’s at the top of her game and takes her job very seriously. Her newest client may prove to be her biggest challenge yet. Jarod loves his life and loves racing. He’s never been one to care about what people think of him, until one incident nearly costs Jarod everything. That’s where Vivian comes into play. He hopes that she will be able to turn his career around. Then he meets Vivian and it’s like all bets are off. Jarod is supposed to fix his career and leave his bad boy reputation behind. But, there’s something about Vivian that just draws him in and will test his control….

Caught was a sexy, quick read for me. From the moment I read the first page, I couldn’t wait to read more. I loved the chemistry between Jarod and Vivian. They had an instant connection. I liked how Jarod made Vivian step out her comfort zone and start really living. Vivian was a great challenge for Jarod. She didn’t make things easy for him. She challenged and fought him. I loved the push and pull between the two of them. I liked watching them try to maneuver their personal and professional relationship. I couldn’t get enough of the two them together.

Overall, I thought this was an enjoyable read. I loved the steam, the angst, the drama, and of course the romance. There were a few good twists thrown in along the way and it was fun trying to figure those out. This book was very entertaining and I’m glad I checked it out.

When she’s forced to operate on the “right” side of the law, her fear of being confined and controlled blazes to the surface. The last thing she expects is a control freak like Connor to soothe her when she needs it most. Worse, something behind the sexy ex-soldier’s eyes ignites a dangerous inferno of desire. One that invites Erin to play with fire. And one that could get them both killed…

My Review

Wow! Just wow! No one does dirty talking alphas quite like Tessa Bailey. This book takes scorching hot to a whole other level!

Up In Smoke follows the story of Erin and Connor. Dishonorably discharged from the Navy SEALS, Connor finds himself working undercover in Chicago, trying to bust criminals. He will soon find that his control will be tested in ways that he’s unprepared for.

Erin is nothing like she appears to be. She always appears to be running and she hates authority. Not to mention, she also has a fear of being confined and always needs to be in control. The last thing she ever dreamed of was being involved with someone who needs control as much as the air he breathes. Will Erin be able to open up and face her fears? Will Erin ever be able to give Connor what he needs? Will the truth of what haunts Erin tear them apart?

You know, I’m just going to keep this review short and sweet. This is one of those books that speaks for it’s self. It’s fast paced. It’s hot. It’s sexy. And it’s got one dirty talking, possessive, dominate, alpha male. The characters are fun and the story line is entertaining. The characters have instant and electric chemistry. I liked that there was lots of sexy times in this book. That being said, I also really enjoyed the suspense and mystery factor to the story.

If you’re looking for a quick, hot, easy read, than look no forward. Tessa Bailey does not disappoint.

Connor broke away, allowing them both to suck in oxygen. “Stay. I’m sorry. Stay.” He bent his knees to bring them eye to eye. His spoke of torture, but he was trying to hide it. “Look at me. I can handle this. I want you here. Don’t leave.”

“I don’t know if I can handle it,” she whispered.

His heavy breaths ceased. “What do you mean?”

She drew out a lighter from her back pocket and ignited the flame. It cleared her head a little, allowing her to search for the right words. Words that wouldn’t sound crazy. “I like touching you. It makes me feel really…good. And there isn’t a whole lot that makes me feel good, you know?” Her throat closed up. “I wish you could touch me, too. I don’t think I can stay here knowing I’m hurting you by making myself feel good…and I don’t think I can stop touching you. It feels like a must.”

A flare of panic flashed across his face. “I shouldn’t have said what I did earlier. You just caught me off guard.” He massaged his forehead with four fingers. “Did I scare you? Is that why you’re really leaving?”

“No.” She shook her head. “No.”

“Okay. Jesus. Okay.” He was silent a moment, but gears were turning behind his eyes. “You need to touch me and I need you to stay. Let’s give each other what we need. All right?”

Why was this so damn confusing? She’d only met this man yesterday and they were already tangled up in her web of fucked-up issues. He should want to be clear of her, shouldn’t he? No one else had ever bothered with her this long before. “Why? Why do you need me to stay? I—”

“I won’t rest,” he growled. “I’ll think about you somewhere, scared like you were last night, and I’ll go fucking crazy.”

Her heart lurched, dislodging her pride. “I’ve been taking care of myself for a long time. If the only reason you want me here is to play nursemaid to the crazy girl, that’s not going to work for me.”

“You know there’s more to it. You know.” He visibly centered himself with a deep breath, appearing to debate with himself. “I’ve got my own skeletons, Erin. They don’t rattle so much when you’re around. Your touching me…it makes me hot. But it soothes elsewhere.”

She knew her expression was pathetically hopeful, but couldn’t find a single shit to give. “Yeah?”

“Yeah,” he repeated. “I’m not going to lie, Erin. Yes, I want to sleep with you like hell. But only if it’s healthy. Would you trust me enough to go slow? A little at a time?”

Her pulse hammered out of control. “You touching me?”

Connor watched her closely. “When you’re ready. Not before. Never before.”

This is where she should climb down the fire escape and vamoose toward the street. A weight pressed down on her rib cage, making it difficult to draw a breath. It felt like the point of no return. But Connor’s eyes grounded her.

Safe. He’s safe

“Okay, baby. Slow.”

His body drained of tension. “Thank you.” He leaned in and brushed their lips together, gently, reverently. “First, we talk.”     UP IN SMOKE TEASER FOR REVEALAbout the Author:

My Review

The Allure of Julian Lefray was such a fun read! It follows the story of Jo and Julian. Jo is a small town fashion blogger who has moved to New York to follow her dreams. I loved that R.S Grey included Jo’s blog into the story. Not only did it showcase Jo’s personality, but it also made her feel very real. I found Jo to be very easy to relate to because I too grew up in a small town and could not wait until I was old enough to move away. I admired Jo’s bravery and independence. She didn’t let her circumstances get her down. She made the best out of any situation she found herself in.

Then we meet Julian. Julian is a wealthy businessman who lives in Boston. He’s currently in New York helping with his sister’s business and is in need of an assistant. At first I wasn’t too sure about Julian. He had this whole playboy persona, but he turned out to be anything but. Once you got to know him, you got to see that he was a fun, flirty guy. He enjoys hanging out with his friends and is loyal to his sister.

I loved the chemistry between Julian and Jo. These two are complete opposites, but they worked so well together.I loved the banter and flirting between the two of them. I couldn’t wait to see what they’d say next. I knew there was no way the two of them would be able to keep things strictly business. It was fun watching them push the envelope and seeing their relationship develop. The push and pull. The not wanting to ruin their friendship or working relationship.

The Allure of Julian Lefray was a quick and easy read. I really enjoyed the story-line and thought the story was paced perfectly. The characters were down to earth and entertaining. It was easy to get lost in their stories. There is one particular scene where Jo invites Julian to her landlords party…and lets just say I didn’t know if I wanted to laugh or be mortified. It was such a funny moment! If you are looking for a read that will make you laugh, smile, swoon and has very little drama, then look no further. This was a really enjoyable read for me. The stage is now set for the next characters story and I can’t wait to see what will happen next!

Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.
