deept teaser 9Excerpt

“Where have you been?” My sister rushed forward, catching me up in a tight hug. “I’ve been trying to call you all day. We checked everywhere and couldn’t find you.”

“Sorry. I just needed some alone time.” I squeezed her back, unable to stop from smiling. The thought of Anne turning her back on me had scared me more than I liked to admit.

“Well, I get you might want that.” She stepped back. “But you could have told someone.”

“You can’t just disappear like that.” And Ben kept right on frowning. “Shit, Liz, you’re pregnant.”

“Don’t upset her,” snapped Anne.

Ben ignored her. “I don’t know what the hell’s going on in your head. But you need to let me know where you are.”

My eyebrows went up and my mouth opened, ready to rip him a new one.

“She doesn’t answer to you. She’ll let you know if and when she decides to let you know,” said Mal, laying down the law to his bandmate before turning my way. “You will text your sister next time you decide to go wandering for a day, understood?”

My mouth, it still hung open.

“Christ, man.” Over and over, Ben’s hands rolled into tight fists before releasing again. “Can you cut the shit and get off my back for a fucking minute?”

“Don’t swear at him.” My usually sensible and staid sister poked a finger dead center in Ben’s broad chest. “You’re the one that caused this mess, thank you very much. She might still be a little young and naive, but you’re definitely old enough to know better.”

“That’s right.” Standing about as tall as a skyscraper, despite only coming up to Ben’s nose, Mal stared him down. Or up. Whatever. “This is a family matter. You can leave, thanks.”

The Unleashing 331

Kera Watson never expected to face death behind a Los Angeles coffee shop. Not after surviving two tours lugging an M16 around the Middle East. If it wasn’t for her hot Viking customer showing up too late to help, nobody would even see her die.

In uncountable years of service to the Allfather Odin, Ludvig “Vig” Rundstrom has never seen anyone kick ass with quite as much style as Kera. He knows one way to save her life—but she might not like it. Signing up with the Crows will get Kera a new set of battle buddies: cackling, gossiping, squabbling, party-hearty women. With wings. So not the Marines.

But Vig can’t give up on someone as special as Kera. With a storm of oh-crap magic speeding straight for L.A., survival will depend on combining their strengths: Kera’s discipline, Vig’s loyalty… and the Crows’ sheer love of battle. Boy, are they in trouble.

My Review

I was so excited to see that The Unleashing was available on NetGalley. As soon as I saw that, I couldn’t pass up the chance to request it. The Unleashing was a fast paced and easy read for me. I found the story line to be really fascinating and I loved the world that the author created. I thought this book was funny, had a ton of action and I loved the paranormal aspects.

However, I did have some issues with this book. I had a really hard time getting into the story in the beginning. I felt really confused, like I was missing something. I needed more explanation for what was going on. And Kera was also very frustrating to me. I know accepting change is hard, but come on! I also thought the story had some flow issues, but I am happy to say that the flow did improve the further I got into the story.

The characters: I really liked the characters, especially how well they supported each other. However, there were so many of them. Sometimes, it was hard for me to keep everyone straight and then you add in all the pov’s, it was just too much. Don’t get me wrong, I love alternative/multiple pov’s, but there is such a thing as too many. When there’s too many, it makes the story harder to follow (in my opinion).

Also, it’s no secret that I’m a big fan of romance and I really love a good paranormal romance, but I really missed the romance here. Yes, there was some, but I needed more from the characters than what I was given.

Overall, I thought The Unleashing was an ok read. I did have some issues with this story and I’ll be honest, in the beginning, I wasn’t sure if I was going to finish this book, let alone like it. I am really glad that I stuck with it and gave it a chance. The story did improve for me by the second half. I think this series has a lot of potential and I’m curious to see where it will go next.

FWM Teaser 4

Someone—was it Melvin?—catcalled as Reece led me down the hall, and my cheeks flushed. “Okay, heman, I can walk all by my little self.”

He cast a look over his shoulder at me as he opened the office door. “I’m sure you can.”

Then he pulled me inside.

My gaze flipped to the roses—the roses!—but before I could say a word, he closed the door and my back was pressed against it, his hands planted on either side of my head and his face right in mine. Like right there, within kissing distance.

“So, I was at my father’s place in New Jersey most of the day, and you know, he lives out near the Pine Barrens, so service is shit.”

I nodded even though I really wasn’t processing what he was saying as I was too busy staring at his mouth. Those lips, fuller on the bottom, drove me to distraction.

“I pull out of his driveway and I have all these messages from Dennis,” he continued, and I finally caught on to what he was talking about. “I honestly thought he was messing with me at first.”

I cringed. “He . . . um, he wasn’t.”

He shot me a bland look. “That much I figured out.” His hands slid on the door, stopping just shy of touching my shoulders. “What did he do to you?”

“What?” I blinked.

“What did that bastard do to make you throw a book through his windshield?”

Oh. Oh. My heart was now wiggling along with my stomach. “He really didn’t do anything. I just lost my cool. He wanted to talk to me, and I didn’t want to talk to him.”

“You don’t have to talk to him.”

“That’s what Dennis said, but I shouldn’t have damaged his car.”

A muscle flexed along his right jaw. “That’s true.” He shook his head. “Damn, Roxy, can’t say I’m surprised.”

My brows flew up. “You’re not?”

He laughed under his breath. “Babe, you’ve always had a hell of a temper on you.”

Ah, that was kind of true. “Is that a good thing or a bad thing?”

Reece cocked his head to the side. “A sexy thing, but vandalism and destruction of property doesn’t look good on you, sweets.”

“No. It doesn’t match my manicure.” I raised my hands, flashing him the blue nails.

He laughed again and then he sobered up, just like that. Cop Face was on, and yeah . . . the low coiling in my stomach told me I found Cop Face arousing. “You’re lucky. He could’ve pressed charges, and this conversation would be going in a whole different direction.”

My own half smile slipped off my face. “I know. It’s . . . I was just with Charlie, and he’s . . .” Unable to continue, I forced a casual shrug I didn’t feel. “What are you going to do with me?”

His lips parted as his chest rose with a deep breath, then his gaze dropped to my mouth, and his expression tightened. He looked . . . he looked hungry. “I have lots of ideas.”

Fashion portrait of a sensual girl in white bed

My Review
Heartbreaking. Beautiful. Well Written. Captivating. Those are just a few words to describe this amazing book. Finding the words to give this book the justice that it deserves was a difficult task for me, but I’m going to give it my best shot…..
Pretty Pink Ribbons follows the story of Laney and Levi. Eight years ago, Laney made the biggest mistake of her life. Forced with an ultimatum, she choose following her dreams over love. A decision that she has regretted since the moment she made it. Now, eight years later, Laney is moving back home. She wants to try to make up for her mistakes and hopes that Levi will give her a second chance before it’s too late. When Laney left  Levi, he was devastated. He promised himself that he would never fall in love again. For eight years, he’s tried desperately to erase her memory. Just when he thinks that he’s finally moved on, Laney comes back into his life. Levi finds himself confused. He wants to be mad at her, but is finding that to be nearly impossible, especially once they hash things out. When the truth comes out, will Levi and Laney be able to get past the hurt and have a second chance?
It is so hard to believe that this only K.L. Grayson’s second book! It is so well written, it feels as though she has been writing for ages. From the moment I read this synopsis, I knew I had to get my hands on  this book. I knew it was going to be life changing. I was not prepared for how deeply this book would effect me. Pretty Pink Ribbons is beautifully written and you can tell that this book was written from the author’s heart. I could not put this book down. I devoured every word, every moment of this book. There were so many times where I was brought to tears. This book wrecked me and broke me in the best possible way.
The characters are absolutely amazing. I was hooked on Laney and Levi from the very first page and just had to know more about their story. Their connection and chemistry was so beautiful. I was crossing my fingers and rooting for them to be able to find their way back to each other. The secondary characters were just as amazing. I adored Mia and Benny. They were the absolute best friends Laney could even ask for. Their strength and love was so inspiring. Everyone needs friends like those in their life. And I really hope that we get to see more of them in the future.
Pretty Pink Ribbons is not an easy read. The subject matter is tough and real. Your heart will break and it will feel as though you going through all of this with Laney. That being said, this is a book about strength, determination, fight and the power of love. This is one of those reads that will stay with you for a long time. I loved everything about Laney and Levi’s story. I highly recommend checking this one out!
*I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

“I wish it was someone else,” she croaks, swallowing hard. “There are thousands of bad people in the world, but it happened to you.” I watch her eyes fill with tears and then I look away. It’s pathetic of me really; that I’m unable to look my best friend in the face when it’s obvious that she is struggling with this almost as much as I am. But I’ve cried my fair share of tears and although I’m certain my tear ducts have yet to dry up, I don’t want to cry tonight. Somehow I know that if I watch Mia break, then I’ll shatter right along with her.

“I’m glad it’s me.” She gasps, startled by my words, and I rush to try and explain. “If it wasn’t me, it would be someone else, and I would never wish this upon someone else. You know that saying that God will only give you what you can handle?”

She nods

“Sometimes I tell myself that he just thinks I’m really strong and I can handle it, whereas someone else couldn’t.”

“Does that help?” she asks. “Does that make you feel better about it?”

“No, but it eases my mind. Sometimes when I’m having a good day, it brings me peace, however temporary it may be. But no, it doesn’t make me feel better.”

“Peace,” she whispers, seemingly trying the word on for size. “I want you to have peace.”

Review: Say My Name by J.Kenner

Posted on

saymynameNew York Times bestselling author J. Kenner kicks off a smoking hot, emotionally compelling new trilogy that returns to the world of her beloved Stark novels: Release Me, Claim Me, and Complete Me. Say My Name features Jackson Steele, a strong-willed man who goes after what he wants, and Sylvia Brooks, a disciplined woman who’s hard to get—and exactly who Jackson needs.

I never let anyone get too close—but he’s the only man who’s ever made me feel alive.
Meeting Jackson Steele was a shock to my senses. Confident and commanding, he could take charge of any room . . . or any woman. And Jackson wanted me. The mere sight of him took my breath away, and his touch made me break all my rules.

Our bond was immediate, our passion untamed. I wanted to surrender completely to his kiss, but I couldn’t risk his knowing the truth about my past. Yet Jackson carried secrets too, and in our desire we found our escape, pushing our boundaries as far as they could go.

Learning to trust is never easy. In my mind, I knew I should run. But in my heart, I never felt a fire this strong—and it could either save me or scorch me forever.

Say My Name is intended for mature audiences.

Say My Name is a spin off from the Stark Trilogy. Say My Name follows the story of Sylvia and Jackson. 5 years ago, Sylvia made one the biggest mistakes of her life. Asking Jackson to walk away from her has been on of her biggest regrets. Now, years later, an opportunity has presented itself and has brought the two them together again. Their reunion was anything but sweet. There was a lot of pain, hurt and misunderstanding there. A truth that neither one of them was ready to face. Their chemistry undeniable, a force that refuses to be ignored. Games will be played, truths will be told and trust will be earned. Will Sylvia and Jackson give in and find their way back to one another? Or will the games and lies prove to be too much??

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I was really intrigued by the characters and the story-line. I totally found myself getting lost and swept up in the characters, wanting to know more about them and why they were the way that they were. I loved watching the story unravel and getting the answers to questions I was asking myself. I was completely fascinated. Say My Name is sexy, steamy, full of secrets, intrigue, and great twists and turns. I think this series is off to a really great start and I can’t wait to read more!!
