Spotlight Tour and Book Review: The Legend of Arturo King by L.B. Dunbar

Title: The Legend of Arturo King

Series: Legendary Rock Stars #1

Author: L.B. Dunbar

Genre: Adult, Contemporary Romance

Release Date: January 27, 2015

My name is Arturo King, and I’m told I’m a legend in music. My band is called the Nights and we got our start at the underground Round Table in New York City. Raised by a foster father, I didn’t know the extent of my inheritance until I was twenty-one, and it was all more than I bargained for. I wanted to play the guitar and rule the world with song, but I learned I have a mother from old money, a dead father who was once a real estate mogul, and a record company that needed some rebuilding. Mure Linn, my friend and mentor, has been by my side through it all, teaching me to play, strengthening my lyrics, and guiding me in the music industry. There was one area he couldn’t guide me, though, and that was love. Guinevere DeGrance changed everything for me, I suppose, including the reason I’m here learning the legend of my life without remembering any of it.

The legendary rock star series begins…

My Review

This is my first book by author LB Dunbar. She is known for taking classic stories and giving them a modern twist.  That being said, I couldn’t wait to dive into The Legend of Arturo King and check it out for myself.

This book started off a little slow for me, however once I got into it, I was hooked. The Legend of Arturo King is a modern retelling of King Arthur. I knew some of what King Arthur’s story was about, so I was excited to see where LB Dunbar would take us! This story takes you for an interesting ride. There’s music, romance, deception, and lies. And I loved all the twists along the way. I was left wondering what the true motives were for certain characters.  The writing was smart and kept me eager to find out how everything would play out.

I like Arturo and Guinevere right away. Arturo was sexy, successful,  broody at times, and doesn’t give up on what he wants. The perfect compliment to Guinevere, who was more reserved, innocent and still trying to find herself. They both frustrated me at times, but their chemistry was undeniable. I enjoyed watching their relationship grow and the path that it took.

Overall, I really did enjoy The Legend of Arturo King. I thought the story line was really unique and found the characters to be very enjoyable.  It had everything that I look for in a good read and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!

About The Author

I’d like to say I was always a writer. I’d also like to say that I wrote every day of my life since a child. That I took the teaching advice I give my former students because writing every day improves your writing. I’d like to say I have my ten-thousand hours that makes me a proficient writer. But I can’t say any of those things. I did dream of writing the “Great American Novel” until one day a friend said: Why does it have to be great? Why can’t it just be good and tell a story?

As a teenager, I wrote your typical love-angst poetry that did occasionally win me an award and honor me with addressing my senior high school class at our Baccalaureate Mass. I didn’t keep a journal because I was too afraid my mom would find it in the mattress where I kept my copy of Judy Blume’s Forever that I wasn’t allowed to read as a twelve year old.

I can say that books have been my life. I’m a reader. I loved to read the day I discovered “The Three Bears” as a first grader, and ever since then, the written word has been my friend. Books were an escape for me. An adventure to the unknown. A love affair I’d never know. I could be lost for hours in a book.

So why writing now? I had a story to tell. It haunted me from the moment I decided if I just wrote it down it would go away. But it didn’t. Three years after writing the first draft, a sign (yes, I believe in them) told me to fix up that draft and work the process to have it published. That’s what I did. But one story let to another, and another, and another. Then a new idea came into my head and a new storyline was created.

I was accused (that’s the correct word) of having an overactive imagination as a child, as if that was a bad thing. I’ve also been accused of having the personality of a Jack Russell terrier, full of energy, unable to relax, and always one step ahead. What can I say other than I have stories to tell and I think you’ll like them. If you don’t, that’s okay. We all have our book boyfriends. We all have our favorites. Whatever you do, though, take time for yourself and read a book.

Release Date:  January 16, 2015

EMILY MICHAELS ~ Have you ever felt like you didn’t belong? Like you never fit in, or you weren’t good enough? This is how I have felt for as long as I can remember.

I see the world differently than everyone else, I feel everything differently and I reflect on life differently. And being different in my world is not a good thing.

I live in a place that’s divided between the rich and the poor, the beautiful and the unbeautiful, the prestigious and the mediocre. I have always belonged in the first category, because my father was the Governor of Georgia.

Growing up around people I could never relate with, my life had always been lonely, that was until my senior year when I met the one boy who would change my life forever. A boy who my parents would never approve of because he didn’t come from money or the same social class. He rode a motorcycle, had tattoos and was considered to be from the wrong side of the tracks. Yet he was still envied by many.

Ryder Jameson was someone who every guy feared, and one who every girl wanted to be touched by. He didn’t do attachments, or have friends… until me. And for the first time in my life I finally felt like I belonged. When I was with him, my different didn’t feel wrong or ugly. He made me feel beautiful- insightfully beautiful. Then one day my world came crashing down on me, and it would be six years before I’d once again see the boy I fell in love with.

RYDER JAMESON ~ After working my ass off I am given the opportunity of a lifetime, and if I pull it off I will be the youngest FBI agent to run one of the biggest undercover operations in history. Only the case that gets thrown in front of me leads me back to the one place I swore I would never return to, and to the only girl who’s ever mattered to me.

Except Emily Michaels is not the same girl I left behind. She still looks the same, she’s still beautiful inside and out, but there’s one thing that’s very different about her, one very big thing, and it’s something I didn’t think was possible.

Ryder and I come from a world where politics separates us and wealth defines us, but even after all this time we will not let it divide us.

Here is our story.

A memory from the past~

A big smile spreads across my face as we walk up to a black motorcycle. “Are we going to ride this?” I ask hopefully.

“Yeah, this is the new bike I bought from Hector.”

“Eeeek!” I clap excitedly and Ryder chuckles at my obvious enthusiasm. I look down at my attire. “Er, I guess I’m not dressed great for it.”

A dirty grin tilts his sexy lips. “I like it better that way.” He winks suggestively and I feel my face heat. Sheesh, I really hate that. “Here.” He passes me his jacket but I push it back at him.

“No, no, I’ll be fine. It’s a warm night.”

He glares at me and thrusts the jacket my way again. “No, you won’t. Take the jacket.”

“Ryder, I’ll be fine.”

“Emily, would you not argue with me for once, and just take the fucking jacket.”

I roll my eyes then rip the stupid jacket from him. “Geez, you have a serious problem with being bossy,” I tell him as I put the damn coat on. Oh man, maybe it’s not such a bad idea after all, it smells really darn good, but there is no denying I look ridiculous in it. I throw my arms up showing him how long the sleeves are. “I look stupid!”

His eyes roam down my body, suddenly making me think I might not look like an idiot after all. Sitting on the bike sideways, he grabs the lapels of the jacket and pulls me between his legs. “You look fucking sexy in anything you wear, but especially my clothes. And you look as good now as you did six years ago when we left that beach party and I took you on my bike for the first time. Except back then your dress was yellow, not pink.”

My heart turns over in my chest at his words. The night he talks about is a night I have never forgotten, and clearly he hasn’t either. The fact that he remembers it so vividly, right down to what I wore, repairs a small part of my scarred heart. “I can’t believe you remember what I wore that night,” I whisper.

“Baby, there isn’t a second of our time together that I don’t remember. You, Emily, are not someone I could ever forget.”

I stare at him speechless, a sudden storm of emotions roiling inside of me. Then why? I want to scream. Why did you leave me? He stares back at me, his gaze intense as if he knows what I’m thinking. I consider asking him, right here, right now, but as I dig for courage he ends up breaking the moment by grabbing his helmet and putting it on my head. It’s probably better. I will ask him eventually. I will. But maybe not tonight. For tonight- I want to forget about all the bad, forget about what took him from me and just be in a place that I haven’t been for six years, a place that only Ryder and I create.

“Lift your chin.” I do as he asks. After he tightens the straps, he straddles the bike, and oh boy does he look good on it. Heat pools low in my tummy when I think about what we did on his bike back in high school, or rather, what he did to me…

I suddenly notice he’s watching me with an arrogant smirk. “This is one of those times, Emily, when I know exactly what you’re thinking. It’s written all over your pretty, flushed face.”

“If you want to go for a ride on this bike I suggest you get your sexy ass on the back of it before I change my mind and end up taking you for a ride right here.”

Oh god, just the thought of riding him instead of the bike has an ache starting between my legs. I scoff, hoping to hide his affect on me. “Settle down, Jameson. I was just noticing how completely awkward you look on the bike is all.”

He bursts out laughing, and it’s so infectious I can’t stop from laughing with him; we both know I’m full of it. “You are the shittiest liar.”

“I know,” I agree with a giggle, not bothering to deny it. I get on behind him and wrap my arms around his waist, bringing my front flush against his hard, warm back. My smile dies and my heart flutters at the familiar feeling of being this close to him again. It’s a feeling I didn’t think I would get to experience again.

My Review

Wow! What an amazing story! I am full of so many emotions right now and at a complete loss for words………

Beautifully Insightful is a standalone novel and is told from dual pov’s. This book follows the story of Emily and Ryder. Emily had always seen the world differently from everyone else. She’s never really fit in and has always been told to not be an embarrassment, that she’s not good enough. Being different is not really an option for the world that she is apart of. Sheltered all her life, Emily makes a big decision to go to public school for her last year of high school.  She just wants to fade into the background, that is until she meets Ryder……..

Ryder is the exact definition of bad boy: tattoos, motorcycle and lives on the wrong side of town. But, there is so much more to Ryder than what meets the eye. Emily sees things in Ryder that most people don’t. She makes Ryder want things that he’s never wanted before and Ryder gives her the one thing that she’s always wanted to be beautiful. Everything was perfect until one day, everything changed……..

Now 6 years later, Ryder is faced with the opportunity of a lifetime and it will bring him back to the one place he swore he’d never return and to the only woman he ever loved. Only, 6 years is a long time and things change, people change.  Will Ryder be able to do his job and win back the love of his life?? Or has too much time gone by???

Beautifully Insightful captivated me from the very first page. The writing pulls you in and gives you no other option than to devour this book. The characters are very real and easy to connect with. I fell in love with Emily and Ryder immediately. They showed me that there’s so much more to beauty than what’s on the outside. That appearances aren’t everything. Their path to HEA was definitely not an easy one. There were so many obstacles that they had to overcome, but it was so worth it in the end.

Beautifully Insightful is one of those books that will stick with you for a long time. It deals with some very, very tough issues. It is action packed, filled with lots of twists and turns, WTF moments and some revelations that I didn’t want to believe.  And let me tell you, the last few chapters of this book had me on the edge of my seat, freaking out, wondering what would happen next!

This book will make you laugh, frustrate you, shock you and fall in love.  Ryder is not only swoon worthy, but a total alpha male and the chemistry that Ryder and Emily share is off the charts. I enjoyed everything about this book and it is definitely one of my top reads of the year so far!!

Release Day Launch and Book Review: Seduction’s Kiss (The Allure Chronicles 0.5) by Alyssa Rose Ivy

*Prequel novella to Lure (The Allure Chronicles #1)*

Never agree to a road trip to New Orleans with your roommate. At least not when your roommate is dragging you along while she reconnects with an ex-boyfriend. Possible consequences of failing to take my advice:

1) Unknowingly going out with a vampire stripper
2) Getting kidnapped by said vampire’s nest mates
3) Falling head over heels for your winged hero

Believe it or not number 3 is the worst one, especially when no one believes you that he exists.

We wove our way through the crowds. I glanced into the rows of bars and clubs teeming with people dressed in various degrees of costumes. Despite my apprehension of hanging out with someone I barely knew, the excitement seemed to be rubbing off on me. I found myself moving along to the music spilling out of one club when we were momentarily stopped.

“Duncan!” A girl with long blond hair yelled and proceeded to wrap her arms around Duncan’s neck. She was dressed as a pumpkin, if a pumpkin was just a skimpy piece of orange fabric. “Come dancing with us.” She was visibly drunk.

“Oh, hi.” He gave me an apologetic look.

I shrugged. It wasn’t like we were on a date.

“Why aren’t you dressed up? It’s Halloween. You’re supposed to be dressed up.”

He shoved a hand into his back pocket. “How do you know that I’m not dressed up?”

“Laurie!” The girl yelled. “It’s Duncan, the stripper who did Debbie’s party last week.”

Wait. What? Did he strip? Wow, that was pretty surprising. He wasn’t bad looking, but I hadn’t met a male stripper before.

Another girl ran over. This one was appropriately attired. She had an awesome lollipop costume on. She also gave Duncan a hug, so I decided to people watch while I waited. That’s when I saw him. The gorgeous guy from the bar. All six plus feet of his perfectness. This time he was wearing one of those sleeveless white t-shirts that showed off his muscular arms. But it wasn’t his muscles that jumped out the most. It was his beautiful set of black wings. Now that was a costume.

He glanced up just as he passed, and my chest tightened. He looked at me with curiosity for a second before continuing on. Maybe he vaguely remembered my face but didn’t know why. I wasn’t sure what would be worse, if he remembered the humiliating moment, or if he didn’t.

I suddenly felt embarrassed of my cat costume. Were the whiskers too much?

“Daisy?” Duncan called my name and snapped me out of my daze. “Ready?” The girls must have walked off while I was distracted because Duncan was alone watching me. I wondered how obvious my ogling was.

“Yeah, sure.”

Duncan towed me along until he turned into a dark and completely unappealing dive. This was his favorite place? I kept my mouth shut. I didn’t want to offend him. Maybe this was one of those hidden gems you always hear about. Just to be safe I texted Reyna the name of the place as inconspicuously as possible, Grounddiggers.

“Who are you texting?” Duncan asked as we walked through the entrance.

Evidently I wasn’t as inconspicuous as I thought. “Just a friend.” I’m not sure why I didn’t just tell him who it was. I just felt like it was safer not to.

He nodded at a bouncer, who like Duncan was dressed all in black. The bouncer grunted something unintelligible to Duncan. Duncan must have taken the grunt to mean enter because he pulled me further inside.

My Review

Another fantastic read from Alyssa Rose Ivy!! Just one I think I couldn’t possibly love another series, she gives me this! I have been a fan of Owen’s since we met him in The Crescent Chronicles and have been wanting to know more about his character. So, I’m super excited that his story is finally being told.  Seduction’s Kiss is a wonderful asset to the paranormal world that Alyssa Rose Ivy has created.  As far as paranormal goes, this book had it all: witches, magic, voodoo, vampires and of course Pterons!

Seduction’s Kiss may only be a novella, but boy does it deliver. This book pulls you in from the very beginning and keeps you on your toes, wondering what is really going on. People are not who or what they seem. I loved the mystery and suspense of the story. The pull between Owen and Daisy is fantastic! I can’t wait to see more of the two of them together! This really is an exciting start to this series! I am super excited to be going back into the world of Pterons and can’t wait to see where Alyssa Rose Ivy is going to take me next!

Review: Hero by Samantha Young

The emotional and unforgettable new romance from the New York Times bestselling author of the On Dublin Street series.

Alexa Holland’s father was her hero—until her shocking discovery that she and her mother weren’t his only family. Ever since, Alexa has worked to turn her life in a different direction and forge her own identity outside of his terrible secrets,. But when she meets a man who’s as damaged by her father’s mistakes as she is, Alexa must help him.

Caine Carraway wants nothing to do with Alexa’s efforts at redemption, but it’s not so easy to push her away. Determined to make her hate him, he brings her to the edge of her patience and waits for her to walk away. But his actions only draw them together and, despite the odds, they begin an intense and explosive affair.

Only Caine knows he can never be the white knight that Alexa has always longed for. And when they’re on the precipice of danger, he finds he’ll do anything to protect either one of them from being hurt again…

My Review

Hero follows the story of Alexa and Caine. For Alexa’s entire life, she believed that her father was a hero. She looked up to him the way ever little girl looks up to her father, until one day, a shocking secret will destroy everything. Alexa makes it her mission to turn her life around, and live a new identity, one that isn’t tainted by her last name. All was well until she met the man whose life was destroyed by her father’s secrets……To say Caine loathes Alexa would be an understatement. He hates her family and has a hard time seeing past that.  He desperately tries to push Alexa away, but is finding that it’s not such an easy task. He tries to make Alexa hate him, but it only pulls them closer together and they can only fight each other for so long…..Caine knows that he’ll never be the man that Alexa needs or deserves, but he can’t stay away. When danger strikes, he’ll do anything to protect her, even if it tears them apart….

Hero was a great read for me. It started off as a story about a girl wanting to find some redemption for the wrongs her family caused another man, and slowly turned into something more. I found the story to be captivating and the characters were very likable and easy to connect with. I loved the chemistry between Caine and Alexa. It was scorching, off the charts. The more they denied it, the more the tension built, until they could no longer hold back! And boy was it worth the wait!

Alexa was such a treat. She was strong, stubborn, and put up with way to much from Caine. Caine….boy did he ever frustrate me in the beginning of this story. He was such a jerk to Alexa and put her through so much. But, Caine learned a valuable lesson that things aren’t always as they seem and the same goes for people. Once he figured that out, my opinion of him changed. Alexa and Caine were the perfect balance for one another and challenged each other as well.

Overall I really enjoyed Hero. It had such a different feel from the On Dublin Street series. My only complaint is that the back and forth did drive me a little nuts at times. That being said, if that’s my only complaint, that’s a good thing! I loved the tension, romance and frustration of the story. There was an interesting twist thrown in the last 2/3 of the story. It was so unexpected and I loved the mystery surrounding it. I am a little sad that Hero is a stand alone. I would love to spend a little more time with these characters and there are a few others, that I would love to know more about. I’m hopeful that maybe one day, we will see that. A girl can hope, right?!

Release Day Blitz and Book Review: Falling For Jillian by Kristen Proby

From New York Times bestselling author Kristen Proby comes the third romance in the Love Under the Big Sky series, featuring a veteran struggling with PTSD and the one woman who can help him recover—and learn to love again.

Jillian thought she was a city girl through and through; the fast cars, high fashion, and glamour—she loves it all. But when her ex tells her he’s having a baby with his new wife (after Jillian struggled for years to get pregnant), she hightails it back to Montana to cry on the shoulder of her best friend, Cara.

But in truth, Jillian would rather be comforted by someone else…specifically Zach, Cara’s brother-in-law. Zach is a veteran of the Iraq War who came back to the family ranch to raise his preteen son after the boy’s mother took off. He’s struggling to re-establish a relationship with his son, and warding off the demons of PTSD, which still haunt him. The last thing he needs is bold, brassy Jillian…but why can’t he keep his hands off her?

“Okay, plug them in.”

I run to the porch and plug in the lights, then run back into the front yard to see them.

“Oh, they’re so pretty!”

“Thank God they all work,” he says as he tosses the black shoe down to the ground and then moves carefully down to the ladder. “It would be a bitch to have to take them back down.”

“I checked them,” I assure him, and when his foot finally lands safely on the snow and he turns to me, I hit him on the arm. “You shouldn’t have done that! You took ten years off my life!”

I throw my arms around his torso and squeeze him tightly, then back away.

“No, you shouldn’t have been on that ladder. If I catch you on one again, I’ll spank your ass until it glows.”

My jaw drops as I gaze up into his frustrated face. For once in my life, I’m speechless. I scowl as I pull myself together and clench my fists. “You wouldn’t dare . . .”

“Put yourself in danger again and see if I don’t,” he replies calmly and crosses his arms over his chest.

“Did you come here to bully me?”

He sighs and pulls his beanie off his head, pushing his fingers through the messy brown strands. I want to sink my fingers in that thick, dark hair.

“No. I came because you won’t answer your fucking phone so I can apologize for the other night.”

“I don’t want your apology,” I reply and throw the extra lights and staple gun back into the tote and turn away, but he catches my arm and turns me back to him, takes the tote, and sets it down.

“I’m going to give it anyway.” His jaw is firm. “I had no right to kiss you like that in the parking lot for everyone to see.”

I jerk back, mortified. “You’re apologizing for kissing me?”

My Review

Another amazing book by Kristen Proby! Seriously, I love the characters she writes and she never disappoints me! This story is told from dual pov’s and can be read as a standalone.

Falling for Jillian follows the story of Jillian and Zach. Jillian has just moved back home after ending her marriage. She’s trying desperately to move on with her life. However, moving on isn’t easy, especially when she finds out that not only has her ex remarried, but also gotten his new wife pregnant; something Jillian has struggled with for years. All she wants is to find that spark, that connection that everyone deserves….

Zach is everything that Jillian wants. But, a misunderstanding is keeping the two of them apart. And that’s not the only thing, both of them have baggage and are afraid of letting anyone get close…….Zach is a war veteran and is struggling with PTSD. As if that wasn’t enough, he’s having to undo all the damage his ex has done to their son. The last thing he expected was to fall for Jillian. Only,Jillian is exactly what Zach and his son need. But when another misunderstanding happens, it all blows up in Zach’s face. Zach has been hurt and lied to before. Will he able to move forward and put his fears behind him? Or will he be too late and loose the love of his life???

I loved, loved Falling for Jillian. I’ve been waiting for Jillian and Zach’s story for a while now and I was not disappointed. I was pulled into their story right away. I’ve been needing some answers since we first met them in Loving Cara and was so happy to finally get them.

Falling for Jillian is a great book about family, and finding love again. Kristen Proby gave me everything that I was looking for: great writing, angst, romance, steam, great chemistry and a HOT alpha male. One of the things I love about these books is that the romance is sweet. There’s some angst, but not too much. It’s always just the right balance.

Overall, I found this book to be really enjoyable. I think the story wrapped up pretty nicely and I couldn’t be happier with the way things ended. I would love for there to be another book in this series, but if not, I’m ok with that too. If you are a fan of this series or Kristen Proby’s books, you will be disappointed. It’s a fantastic read and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!

My Review

All of Me is was a quick and sexy read for me. The perfect ending to Chris and Sara’s story. After everything the two of them have gone through, they are finally at the perfect place, in-sync with one another. I’m going to just keep this review short and sweet and say that this was a great ending to their story and this series. All of the loose ends were tied up, we got to see a little more of Mark and Crystal and got the ending that these characters deserved. This series as a whole has been one fantastic journey. I fell for the characters more and more with each book that came out and just hoped that it would all work out in the end. I’m so sad to see that their story has come to end, but couldn’t be happier with the end result. Fans of this series will not be disappointed.
