What makes Penny Reid such a darn awesome author? The fact that she creates delicious sinful treats for her readers such as this collection of Knitting in the City short stories. I LOVE a good novella accompaniment to a series and Penny Reid has well and truly delivered.
I really struggle to pick my favourite couples from this series, so I can’t tell you how grateful I am that this book checks in with everyone we’ve read about so far. It really felt like the gift that kept on giving. Each scene packed a punch. Don’t for one second think that short means light on story or detail, each character’s scene was just right, from quirky and random, to heartfelt and sweet and everything in between. When Penny Reid writes she tells the story that the characters need her to tell, which makes her hit the mark Every. Single. Time.
This little book is broken up into 5 parts. There’s the quirky mixed with steamy in Janie & Quinn’s storyline, their honeymoon in fact. Since it’s been a while since I’ve read their 2 books it was nice to remind myself why they were the couple that made me obsessed with this series.
The second is Elizabeth and Nico… Oh my goodness what I wouldn’t give to have that kind of homecoming after a horrible day, these two set each other on fire whether they’re being intense or sweet. Then we move onto Sandra & Alex, this one had me giggling almost the whole way through. I love these two, the things that they get up to! This story just goes to show there really is someone out there for everyone.
The fourth scene is Ashley & Drew, I have SUCH a soft spot for these two. They made my heart explode in Beauty and the Mustache so I was elated to get more of them. I would’ve taken any glimpse into their lives but this beautiful short little story about their reunion threatened to make me have a case of exploding heart all over again. I seriously don’t know if I’ll ever get enough of them.
Finally we begin the story of Fiona & Greg. This story was the longest of the five stories and for good reason. We haven’t had the Fiona & Greg book yet, (Happily Ever Ninja) it’s due 2015. Of course I was always going to read it, because I’m an obsessed fan-girl reader of this series… But after this, I am even more impatient to devour their story. The scene is set, their background has been laid bare, the chemistry is brewing and by the end all I wanted was more. It was a very smart move to introduce us to them in this format. I’m already so invested in their story, I am definitely going to be re-reading this little introduction before I dive into their full length book.
So there you have it. Christmas has come early in the form of a Penny Reid novella. A 5+ star read for me and a necessity if you are a Knitting in the City series fan. Seriously. Just go and get the book before it disappears. (December 15th) You’ll miss out on the amazingness if you don’t and nobody likes to miss out!
