Review: The Resolution of Callie and Kayden by Jessica Sorensen

Things are going good for Callie and Kayden. They’re still dealing with their past and the pain connected to it, but for the most part they’ve moved on. The biggest decision they have at the moment is what they want to do with their lives in the future.

Eventually, though, the past catches up with them and it leaves them with a choice no one wants to make. But Callie and Kayden learn that as long as they have each other, they can make it through just about anything. And in the end, they discover what they really want out of life

It felt so good to be back in the world of Callie and Kayden. I’ve waited so long for the conclusion to their story and was not disappointed.

The Resolution of Callie and Kayden pretty much picks up where The Redemption of Callie and Kayden left off and are now dealing with the aftermath of all that’s happened. Once again, I was wrapped up and consumed with their story.

“In the existence of our lives, there are many coincidences that bring people together, but there’s only one person that will own your heart”

Callie and Kayden have both grown so much since the first book and are finally dealing with their issues in healthy ways. One of the things that I’ve loved about these characters is that they are so real, and so deep. You can’t help but want to know more about them and want them to so desperately get that happily ever after that they deserve. I’m not going to spoil this one for you, but I will say, we finally get some closure. I loved seeing their story come full circle and couldn’t be happier with the way things ended.

This was one of the first NA series that I read and even though I am sad that it has come to an end, these characters will forever hold a place in my heart.

Happy Book Release Day to Jessica Sorensen for The Resolution of Callie and Kayden

Synopsis

Things are going good for Callie and Kayden. They’re still dealing with their past and the pain connected to it, but for the most part they’ve moved on. The biggest decision they have at the moment is what they want to do with their lives in the future.
Eventually, though, the past catches up with them and they’re left facing tough choices. But Callie and Kayden learn that as long as they have each other, they can make it through just about anything. And in the end, they discover what they really want out of life.

Excerpt

“She’s just being nice,” Kayden says gazing down at me. His hair is ruffled and his jawline is scruffy and he looks so happy. “And it’s nice… that she wants to be so nice… it could be worse than an overnice mother.”

“Yeah, I know.” I sigh, knowing he’s right, that it could be worse, that I could have a mother like his mother. “I just wish she’d be just a little bit less embarrassing.” I raise my hand and make a pinching gesture with my fingers. “Maybe just a teeny tiny bit.”

“Yeah, I doubt that’s ever going to happen.” Kayden slips his shirt off and chucks it aside. His jeans ride low on his hips, giving me a view of his abs and chest that is crisscrossed with scars. “I did find it funny when she kept cracking jokes all through dinner about how she thinks we’re going to end up getting married.” He kneels down on the mattress, nudging my knees open with his knees until I spread open my legs for him.

“Oh God.” Shaking my head, I cover my face with my hands. “I’m glad you find it funny because I’m sure most guys would be running for their lives.”

The mattresses moves as he leans over me and puts a hand on each side of my head. I crack my fingers apart and look at him. He’s been so much happier since he put the past behind him. He seems to breathe freer, smile more, and it’s probably the most beautiful sight I’ve ever seen. “Well, just make sure you really want this,” I say as he moves one of my hands away from my eyes.  “Because you still have time to run.”

He shakes his head, his tongue slipping out of his mouth to wet his lips. “No running here,” he whispers in a raspy voice that I know only means one thing—he wants me. “Ever.” He moves my other hand away from my face then pins my arms above my head.

A while ago, the movement would have sent my heart soaring and not in a good way. But now… well, it freaking soars like a bird high up in the sky never wanting to return to land ever. It soars because it’s free. It soars for him.

“You want me,” I tease as he leans down to kiss me.

“You’re right,” he says. “And then I want to give you your present.”

“But you already gave me my present.” I pat my pocket where the tickets to the concert are that he gave me. He said it was for a redo of a night that should have been special, but he couldn’t give it to me then, but he was ready now to give me everything I deserve—his words not mine. My mom practically fainted when he said it. And me, well I think I fell in love with Kayden even more.

“Yeah, but that one was only the first part.” He kisses me, then softly bites my bottom lip before he leans back for air. “There’s more,” he breathes against my lips, coming in for another kiss. “But you have to wait.”

“Until when?” I wonder, my heart skipping a beat as his hands wander for the button of my jeans.

“Until we’re done with this.” He gives me a wicked smile as he flicks my button undone.

Review: The Curse Defiers by Denise Grover Swank

For centuries the gods have waited—for the betrayal that will release them, for the traitors who will defend them, for the warrior who will challenge them. Now at long last the gate between the human and spirit worlds is open, and with it, an army of vengeful demons poised to swarm the earth. Only the Curse Keepers, Ellie Lancaster and Collin Dailey, can stop it…if they can break free from a tangled web of treachery, jealousy, and lies.

Torn between two men—her heart belongs to David, yet her soul is bound to Collin’s—Ellie no longer knows who she can trust. Demons slipping through the gate are leaving a trail of bodies in their wake, each death a chilling reminder of the power of the ancient spirits to bring humanity to its knees. Faced with an unimaginable future, Ellie realizes the time has come to turn her back on prophecy and choose her own destiny—even if it means defying the gods themselves.

In the thrilling conclusion to the Curse Keepers trilogy, humanity faces its final battle for survival!

The Curse Defires  picks up right where the last book left off and takes you on one exciting ride. Just when you think you have things figured out, another twist is thrown in there and will have you questioning everything. The search for answers is more and more urgent now. David and Ellie use every resource they have to try to get those answers. But, answers come at a cost. Will the cost save humanity prove to be too high?

I think all of the characters have grown a lot since the first book. Ellie is still stubborn, but is finally learning to lean on others. I think Ellie and David’s relationship is much stronger now. There’s still some trust issues there and some jealousy where Collin is concerned, but I’m Team David! He is a wonderful partner and a great asset to Ellie. And Collin….Even though I was against him, I will say that he finally has a chance to redeem himself and he takes it.

The Curse Defires had so many great twists, turns and paranormal aspects. This book does wrap up a lot of the loose ends, but definitely left things open for another book. Usually I’m not a fan of an open ended ending, but for this particular series, it works really well. So, if this is the end, I’m ok with that. But like any other book fan out there, I would love to have one more book. The possibilities with this series are endless!

This is an excellent addition to this series and is one of those books, that once you start, you won’t be able to stop reading it. I know I devoured it! The Curse Defires will have you on the edge of your seat holding your breath and impatiently waiting to see what will happen next. This is a definite must read for fans of this series!

SC is married with three teenagers of her own, who give her plenty of inspiration and advice, and are a constant source of laughter and new terminology.  Besides writing, she loves reading, movies, singing and dancing reality shows and going to the beach.

The runaway with blacked-out eyes is losing his grip. Crushing two hearts in one fist, his addiction bends rules and breaks deals, but the boy born for bliss isn’t going anywhere without a fight.
Love is knowing they should stay away, but love is illogical at best.
She’s afraid to let go.
He won’t let her.
This is how silliness and foolishness grow up.
Here, forever is a lie.

Excerpt

I stand silent, breathing in through my nose and out my mouth. Tonight’s argument is years of frustration stacked and hidden, too tall to push away anymore. A little trigger is all it takes, and we end up like this, saying things we don’t mean, taking our aggravation out on each other.

My heart pumps misguided love.

“This isn’t how it’s supposed to be,” it beats. “But that’s your boy—aimless and crazy for you.”

Knowing that I had a role on his spiral to the bottom kills me. As his parents continue to fail him, I should be the one that steps forward and says, “This is wrong.”

But to do so at this point in his madness would be betrayal, and I have to handle his trust with care.

Inhaling an uneven breath, I watch him under the moon’s glow washing out his already pale complexion. Icy wind blows my boy’s white tee against his slender body under his unzipped hoodie, and his hands shake at his sides.

Review: Wednesday by Clare James

Twenty-one-year-old Aria Prince has just moved back to her hometown to start over after a painful divorce. She’s always prided herself on being an early bloomer, but had no idea she’d be married, divorced, and the mother of a toddler by twenty-one. Surely menopause was just a few months away, especially considering the hot flashes and night sweats. Or was that just exhaustion?

Unlike her friends who were at school, going to parties, and sowing their oats—wild and otherwise—Aria’s days were measured in the number of orders she took at her family’s restaurant, the chapters she read in her nursing text, the amount of Cheerios she cleaned up off the floor, and the wet kisses she received from her son.

And that was just fine with her.

But when she began running into her former best-friend Tristan Green—who was home taking care of his sick father—at every turn, she remembered what it felt like to be just Aria. Not a single mother, or sleep-deprived nursing student, or royal screw up. And though she didn’t even have time to shave her legs, let alone consider a sex life, Tristan makes an offer she’d be a fool to refuse.

Each day they’d give themselves to those who needed them. Every day – except Wednesday. Wednesday they’d take what they needed from each other.

Did she forget to mention Tristan was gorgeous?

Or that they hated each other?

Well, you know what they say about the line between love and hate … it’s a skinny-ass bitch. The question was, could they keep their feelings out of it?

I have been a big fan of Clare James for a while and once I heard about Wednesday, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it! And let me tell you, this is my favorite book by Clare James so far!

Wednesday follows the story of Aria and Tristan. Aria’s life is nothing like she thought it would be. After years of trying to make her marriage work, she finally has enough. She’s going through a painful divorce and is just trying to get her life back on track. So, she ends up moving back home. The last thing she expected was to run into Tristan. Tristan and Aria used to be best friends. That is, until Aria’s wedding day. Tristan tried to convince Aria to not go through with it. But, she had her reasons for having to go through with it… Aria is just a painful subject that Tristan wants to forget about….or does he?? Tristan and Aria may seem like they hate one another, but they share an undeniable chemistry that seems to only have intensified over the years. So, Tristan comes up with what he thinks is a brilliant idea: Be his for one day a week, on Wednesday. But can they really just have meaningless sex or will the feelings that have always been there, finally come to head??

Wednesday was a really fun, sexy read that is told from dual points of view. I was sucked in from that first page and couldn’t wait to read more. I found the characters very enjoyable and easy to relate to. I really admired Aria’s strength. It’s not easy to come back to your childhood home and to have to start over again, especially as a single mom. I appreciated how hard she worked not only to make her sons life better, but to better her own life. Tristan….what can I say about him. He was such a jerk in the beginning of the book. There times where I just wanted to reach through my kindle and slap him. But, I honestly couldn’t wait to get to know more about him and why he acted the way he did towards Aria. He definitely won me over in the end 🙂 As I previously stated, Aria and Tristan shared some insanely HOT chemistry….Be warned: It is HOT!!!

Wednesday gave me everything I was looking for and more. It is a quick, but fantastic read full of angst and hot romance! I really enjoyed this story and didn’t want it to end!
